But for the price, location and the lack of alternative gyms in the area, LA Portchester leaves plenty to be desired. Once you get there, parking can be tight. The entire facility can use a major overhaul. Many of the machines are out of order and have been for several months. Same goes for the toilet stalls. Other machines are showing their age with rust, probably from sweat. I have yet to see any staff member on the floor doing daily maintenance. When I signed up work with a personal trainer I was told by Gabe that there would be automatic monthly charge on my credit card which I could stop with notification that I would be leaving the area for an extended period of time. I have yet to get a straight answer from anyone at the site or at LA Fitness corporate on how to make this happen. The cost for a 25 minute training session is $50. While the Portchester site offers water aerobics, a lap pool, several work out and spin classes and a basketball ball court and locker room "amenities", as the saying goes...you get what you pay for.

The signing up process is way too expensive. I went a couple times and a lot of machines were broken, and way too many people. I cancelled my membership and they kept taking money from me. They even periodically charged me $5.00… for what ?! You feel like you’re selling your soul when you sign up. Also if you move they make you show proof that you moved ! So ridiculous for a damn gym membership. All they care about is money and not helping people feel their best.

I rarely post reviews but this place is an absolute joke. I have been a member of LA fitness in Port chester for the last two + years and this place does not fit the standard of an LA Fitness gym in any way, shape or form. Broken down machines take MULTIPLE WEEKS to repair. You want to get to the gym early Saturday morning to get a good start to your day? (Open at 7am) well good luck, the staff is hardly on time. Waited until 7:20am with a long line of people outside until finally deciding to leave.
Last year there were multiple roof leaks with drop ceilings covered in mold/mildew, carpets wet from the roof leaks. This went on for months if not over a year. They only decided to make repairs once the building department got involved. Similar situation with the sauna in the women's locker room. I live 7 min away from this location but I gladly drive the 27min to the Norwalk CT LA Fitness any chance I get to get a decent workout in a decent establishment. I would not recommend this gym to anyone.

A representative of the company returned and said she told the sale person knew I was on hold waiting and she decided to still leave. Then told me I should call back in an hour. As much as I hate leaving negative reviews I think it is time for LA Corporate and new members to know about this location. I have been a member of numerous gyms nationwide and this is probably one of the worse. The owner and manager obviously don't care about this location, which is sad because it could be good and should be much better. LA Corporate should be embarrassed to have their brand name affiliated with this location, and charging members an annual maintenance fee.

Cons: old and broken machines for months, overcrowded with some members who have terrible gym etiquette, they take over machines like it is their house and leave equipment on the floor, the place is filthy with barley any cleaning supplies (small wipes versus paper towels and spray bottles). Annoying that you have to sign out equipment attachments from the front desk, which I have never seen before. Employees - most don't even acknowledge members when they enter, not enough employees walking around cleaning and/or putting weights back for lazy inconsiderate members.

Pros: inexpensive and location.

If you want a dirty place to hang out with broken equipment then this is the place for you.

To whom it may concern,

I’m writing this complaint to express my deep dissatisfaction with the current state of the LA Fitness location I’ve been attending.

The gym is absolutely filthy — dirty floors, equipment that hasn’t been cleaned in days, and trash often left lying around. There is a serious lack of dumbbells and essential accessories for several machines, making it nearly impossible to complete a proper workout. This shows a total lack of maintenance and organization.

Worse still is the attitude of the staff. They are rude, unprofessional, and show no willingness to assist clients. Instead of being helpful, they act like they’re doing you a favor by just being there. On top of that, they try to charge for things that are not supposed to be charged for, taking advantage of members who don’t know better. It feels like customers are being treated like fools.

The system in place is outdated and inefficient, and there’s a complete lack of accountability and commitment to customer satisfaction. The overall experience has become extremely frustrating and disappointing.

I strongly urge LA Fitness to take immediate action to clean up the facilities, retrain the staff, and re-evaluate their policies. Until these issues are addressed, I cannot recommend this gym to anyone.

I originally signed up at the Ridge Hill (Yonkers) location because it was the only place I could find to consistently play basketball outside of the Bronx. After playing there a few times, I quickly realized it wasn’t the environment I was looking for. It felt like no one had work or school obligations — the gym was constantly filled with arguing, petty calls, and over-the-top competitiveness, as if scouts were in the stands handing out NBA contracts.

I eventually found the Port Chester location, which was a refreshing change — especially pre-COVID. The early morning basketball runs were great: respectful players, a relaxed vibe, and fair rotations with half-court 3-on-3 or 4-on-4 games so everyone could get a chance to play.

Unfortunately, things changed dramatically after COVID. The Yonkers location shut down due to a violent incident during a basketball game that involved the police. After that, many of those individuals began showing up in Port Chester — and the experience deteriorated fast.

Arguments now take 10+ minutes to resolve, fights have broken out, and it got to the point where the gym had to chain and lock the court for a week to try and calm things down. I had hoped the break would help reset things, but it only got worse. The crowd became younger, the sportsmanship disappeared, and people began hogging the court for full-court games while ignoring those already playing on one side.

It stopped being enjoyable. So I made the decision to cancel my membership.

When the front desk asked why, I told them honestly: “The younger crowd and overall element on the basketball court has made the gym unenjoyable — it's unfortunate that it came to this.”

To end on a positive note — Port Chester’s free parking was always appreciated (especially compared to Yonkers, where parking is only free for 1.5 hours, then you have to pay). I hope the basketball environment can return to what it once was, but until then, it’s no longer the right place for me.

I had the worst experience with Julio Rosario, the personal trainer at LA Fitness in Port Chester. First off, he seemed completely uninterested in my fitness goals or progress. It felt like he was just going through the motions. He spends more time flirting with the Latina women than actually helping his clients, which is super unprofessional. To make matters worse, he wore shades indoors the entire time, which was just bizarre and made him look more like he was trying to look cool than actually be a trainer. I even caught him peeping when I was doing a workout, which was completely inappropriate. I would not recommend him to anyone. Stay away!

Gym overcrowded with kids. They take over the machines, sometimes in groups of up to 6 taking turns and chatting.
I had to leave the gym in some occasions unable to finish my training due to this behavior.
They absolutely don't place the weights nor bars back on the racks, leaving everything scattered along the gym.
There were cases when they simply walk away from the machine between sets to go talk to some buddy for the longest time, while leaving their belongings behind in a attempt to 'mark' the spot. And if you say something be prepared to deal with their entitled attitude. They might get aggressive and start an altercation - possibly a fight even - with you.
I have been going to other locations such as Norwalk whenever I get a chance. Much rather puttup with traffic than with those arrogant clueless brats. Mind the fact that I've been a member and attended to that location for 12 years. The good old respectfull members like me are simply being purged out. Cheers.

Nice orientation of facilities, I mostly swim so I know I'm good, walking around the gym design; it's big open sections spaces. ; navigate with care bc the cardio from full body exercises can make that time to the next training session to keep a productive workout.

I suggest having split group exercise of 1-3, entertaining the idea of 4 sets of 12 that next machine if you tap in. Take in mind it's always important to utilize all aspects of training to improve flow of movement so have fun with a new goal in mind

Hello! I joined LA Fitness Port Chester 2 years ago and I thought it was an amazing gym until crunch closed…….. LA has let all of these people join for like 15$ bucks and the manager has done nothing to control the crowd… too many kids there for no reason, the gym is the new mall… the bathroom is always out of paper towels 🧻 and it always have a bad smell to it. If a health inspector from westchester county showed up, I guarantee you they would close the place down. I do appreciate the staff they are very helpful. The young lady the closest the gym on Sundays is so nice and she tells u that the gym is closing and she gives you time to leave. I like the staff during the week as well especially the night staff ladies at the front desk…

If i could give this place 0 stars i would. My sister wanted to attend the yoga class. Mind you she has been coming here for 3 years!!! theres always children in those classes as well but when she wanted to bring our sister this lady at the front desk started yelling at her. Yelling!!! aggresively talked to her about not allowing my sister in. After she explained shes seen many kids in the yoga class come in with no problem. I hope this place gets workers that know how to talk to people and treat people. This gym has always been a dump for the price I took it for what it was . Now that Crunch in Portchester closed this place is a complete disaster. It doesn't matter if you come at 5am or 9pm, it's extremely over crowded. The weights are a mess, and no benches or machines are ever free. The gym itself is disgusting they never clean anything. When it rains the roof leaks with visible mold on the ceiling. At this point even for $30-40 a month it is not worth it.

In town for a few weeks and walked into this LA Fitness expecting the usual - fluorescent lighting, questionable locker room smells, and a vague sense that I just joined a gym pyramid scheme. Instead, I met Gustavo. Legend. The kind of guy who reminds you of what gyms used to feel like. Communities, not subscription traps with treadmills.

Tons of space, solid equipment, and a sauna that made me consider never leaving. If every gym ran like this one - with people like my dawg Gustavo at the helm - we’d all be in better shape and slightly less dead inside.

Incredibly dirty and poorly managed. The gym floor is a mess—weights are scattered everywhere, equipment is often broken or left in disrepair, and the place feels like it hasn’t seen a deep clean in years. The roof looks like it could cave in any day. Shockingly, I haven’t heard of any fungal infections coming out of the overcrowded sauna… but I wouldn’t be surprised if that changes. It is getting worse and worse. The pool is supposed to open at 5:00 am. The lifeguard who opens arrive whenever he or she wants. And frankly, nobody cares. So even it the heater is not broken, which happens on regular basis, you are never sure coming all the way from home will be useless or not. Reception staff is nice but they are not told anything about why things they are or schedule for repair. There is no texto system to tell members if the place is closed or pool is down (which would prevent the drive). You cannot talk to any manager either and they don’t take messages for manager. Frustrating, time and again.

I miss the days when going to this gym after work meant finding available machines. Now you’ll find everything from children in the women’s locker room to people taking up space in the machines scrolling through their phones, while you patiently wait your turn. This gym is by far the worst I have ever been to. To be completely honest, it’s an absolute dump.
Disgustingly filthy bathrooms, leaky ceilings, machines that are never even wiped down. I was using one machine that literally had hair and gunk all over the cable. What’s worse is I have yet to ever see anyone ever cleaning this gym.
It’s so overcrowded and the people using the machines are literally hanging out on them scrolling on their phones. Absolutely no gym etiquette . Free weights all over the place and some people even hogging up 2-3 machines at a time.
Locker rooms are an absolute joke. You can’t get a locker. All filled with people’s stuff and no locks.
Probably the one nice thing is that they do have a nice variety of cardio machines.
I tried coming here several times but I ultimately leave disgusted and angry. I will be canceling my membership with LA Fitness. There are better choices for the money.

Busy and very high traffic. Parking can be hard to find. Rush hours can be swamped. They keep up with maintenance and keep machines that are down to a minimum. No one re-racks their weights or wipes down their equipment. Dumbells and barbells are spread throughout the entire gym. You have to leave your ID at the front desk for cable attachments because they are often stolen. Many people bring their own handles and bar attachments. I only use this facility 2 days a week. There isn't any other option in this area.

Full review, pros and cons. Has most of what you need but here are the downsides.
Cons:
The whole place smells like feet, especially the pool area. The place always seems to be crowded.
No one reracks their weights so it's hard to find what you need.
The ceiling seems to constantly be leaking on the second floor.
One of the leg presses is stuck at a specific weight and it can't be altered because the weight pin thing is jammed.
Everything seems to be always under repair.

Pros:
Cheap membership.
It has a ton of cardio machines.
The spin room is a perfect place to stretch when the room is free.
The staff is extremely friendly and it's obvious that they are doing all they can (minus reracking weights).
Never had a bad interaction with a staff member or customer.
Great location.

Overall I like this gym but they have some problems that clearly stem from being underfunded. Again the staff is great!

This particular gym is mediocre. Not terrible but not great either. Been going for months now and here's my opinion. CONS: it constantly smells like sweat and humidity (which i guess is a given since it's a gym but I've been to gyms with better ventilation that prevents sweaty odors); it's kinda of dirty from time to time with buckets on the floor and stains on the ceiling; and there can be an obscene amount of people depending on the hour which means you'll wait some time to use equipment. PROS: its a pretty large gym with a pool & bakestball court; it has a variety of equipment and cardio machines; and it's pretty affordable membership-wise.

I'd give zero if that was an option... gym has been declining for years. Always broken equipment. There's been a leaking roof they literally didn't repair for years. Literally. I've been walking around buckets sitting on yard wide circles of wet carpeting and still getting dripped on. Also a large group of young ppl who bake out in the parking lot then leave a trail of weed smoke all the way through the parking lot, into the locker room, then upstairs to the gym and basketball court. Final straw is that other gym in PC, Crunch fitness, closed and all those ppl came over. Gym is now so overcrowded. Basically I get ppl come up to me asking how many sets I got left soon as I sit down on a bench. I've been waiting for place to figure it out but I'm done and never going back.... and I'm not gonna lie really surprised out of a thousand reviews so many are 5 stars... Decent gym as long as you don’t come in with high expectations.

1. Machines break and take a while to be repaired. Like weeks to months.
2. Dumbbells, EZ curl barbells, and cable equipments are not put back in place. You have to walk through the gym looking for that one you want.
3. People “working out” in crocs or pajamas.
4. Ceiling continues to leak for days after a rainstorm. You can see the brown water in the collecting buckets.
5. Cold water only in the bathroom sinks.

The first three you’d probably find at other gyms. Probably not the latter two.

The good: Plenty of machines. a nice variety of machines and equipment to get a good workout in.
The Bad: the place is in disarray, there are buckets around for all the leaks! on a rainy day drops of water literaly dripped on my head. also a number of broken machines..
As a new member i definitely was not expecting this from LA Fitness, none the less a "signature" club. i've always had the impression this chain was polished, a notch above the discount chains. in all fairness , you are getting the pool, basketball court , and lots of equipment.. but they need to maintain a clean, workable environment.

I was going to join the LA fitness in port chester but fortunally i read all reviews and pictures of it and really it is not good . i want to be happy when i join a gym not unhappy .. i will join another gym who offers better treatment to the customers..base on their own reviews..

This LA Fitness is the best! My husband and I love working out here. It's really clean and the staff is great! They have so much to offer in terms of equipment and facilities. Orlando Alvarado is the general manager and he always makes you feel welcome and right at home. I look forward to continuing to use this place as my exercise escape and for my self care! Wish patrons would put weights back it would be a bonus if they matched the numbers or kept pairs together. The scavenger hunt to find weights is wild. Embarrassing lack of courtesy for others. Staff doesn't put much effort in most of the day to hold people accountable. It's understandable, but still disappointing. Gym fixed the holes in the floor so that's nice.

This is the worst gym I have ever seen. There are holes in the ceiling and water dripping down all the time. You can’t even get a full workout in without getting wet by some dirty brown water. I saw someone already posted all the pictures so reading this you should already know what it looks like. La fitness in Portchester NEEDS WORK! ASAP

The ceiling is falling apart at the LA fitness in Portchester. Instead of fixing the problem, buckets have been placed throughout the gym. I’ve had water from the ceiling drip into my eye and mouth while on the machines at this location. It’s made me consider switching to planet fitness as I’ve visited with family and they are better at maintaining their locations. Yonkers location isn’t much better so I feel robbed with LA fitness, they charge more than other gyms and need to do BETTER.

Why do I get the feeling the good reviews are the ones they begged for? I’m a new member to LA FITNESS and I’m noticing the rush to expand more Gym openings but with poor quality management. I was talked into a membership 3 months ago and just have to put blinders on so I don’t get angry. None of these gyms are paying attention to quality assurance. And eventually affordability will not maintain membership

Front staff is friendly. I love spin & Zumba classes with Leslie. It has good class variety…however- Zumba has become very toxic by a group of older women harassing other women for front spots because they feel entitled to spots, fighting like children over spots! being disrespectful even to manager. Corporate is aware & I’m wondering how this is tolerated at this gym with poor social gym etiquette… true story if you go, you might get harassed yourself!

I would put zero stars if I could, I went to use the bathroom before I started my workout and all 3 of the stalls were out of commission. When I went to notify the manager Andres C at the front desk he responded “we’ll get to it” in a rude and arrogant manner. The gym is falling apart with at least 1 machine per muscle group not working. The staff misinformed my wife about the policies on members using the pool since the night before we were told by the staff that we can bring out 4 year old daughter into the pool as long as 1 parent was present, when we called to confirm with the manager he was extremely rude to my wife saying “we HAD to misunderstand what the staff told us” instead of being apologetic and de escalating the situation he made it worse. This manager needs to be retrained!
