The policies at this place are terrible. It’s not suuuuper expensive if you’re a member, but their “Day Pass” is $50. You can’t even tour the facility without a day pass. They have no affiliations for residents of NYC (it’s $5 Off if you have a Manhattan Plaza key card). It’s $40 to purchase a pass online, but their website is terrible and gives no information on their policies, even when you register for a class. The only way to find out what this gym is like without paying 50% of the monthly fee is their once-a-month open house. Needless to say I won’t be joining. Frankly- I could join New York Sports Club for just slightly more than their day pass, they give me 1 month for free, and I have access to multiple gyms and multiple pools. So sadly, MPHC is a total bust.

I just discovered this health fitness Gem today and I must tell you it’s a “must have” in your life if your trying to live your best one 🏃‍♂️.

The front desk staff is welcoming and the ambiance is amazing. Also Bryce Clark, The fitness instructor. Is a godsend. He did His absolute best to make sure that my workout needs were planned accordingly Plus, he was open to answer any questions That I may have had in regards to my workout Fitness plan. I definitely recommend MPHC.

Love this gym. The staff is great. They're super helpful. The equipment is awesome, and the members are friendly. It also has a very unique vibe. Lots of energy and fun to work out in the gym. There are multiple staff members constantly cleaning the locker room. Thank you!

MPHC is a great gym that offers the best value for your fitness goals in the midtown area.

Plenty of cardio equipment is on the Mezzanine level if you want to use treadmills, bikes, or ellipticals. Basement has a variety of weight training equipment to work on strengthening. First floor has a stretch room and a room for classes. There is also a large pool so you'll have access for swimming.

Other gyms in the area are either overpriced or so crowded that you'll never get to use any equipment. I never felt this gym was too crowded, aside from right after New Year's when people make their resolutions that they will soon give up. Even after work during peak hours I still usually had access to several machines in the weight room which was great.

Many classes are included with the membership which is a benefit. I enjoyed the Yoga classes and know people that spoke highly of the TRX classes. The instructors are knowledgeable and help you reach the maximum physical benefit.

The staff is friendly and easy to talk to as well.

If you need a gym in the midtown area, I highly recommend MPHC.

I joined a couple of months ago mainly for the indoor pool & hot tub. The place is under renovation without even mentioning that when I joined over the phone. Also the hot tub has not been working for over a month now. The front desk people don’t even greet you with a friendly hello or goodbye have a nice day. It would be nice if the staff would acknowledge you when you arrive & leave. The gym you have to walk down 3-4 flights of stairs to get to it & it’s not that big. Then have to walk back up 3-4 flights of stairs to get to the main entrance. I have bad knees which was the reason for joining the health club for the pool. The renovation is extremely loud & I have a horrible headache after leaving there. I was looking for something more relaxing & enjoyable. I’ll stay for another month or so then find somewhere else.

I concur and agree with the below posts regarding ending your membership or cancellation (be careful). They did not alert me via email or phone call for months… then came the annoying and harassing call from collections. The gym is fine. The staff was friendly, but could not help. It gets the job done but would highly suggest looking elsewhere.

I've been going to Manhattan Plaza for about 3 years now since living in HK. What I love about it is the location - it's a 5 min walk from my apt and you can't beat the price - just over $100 per month. While the building is old, they do try to renovate areas and the equipment seems to be in decent shape. We usually try to go in slightly off hours (8:30-11am) to avoid the crowds but it has definitely started to get busier as of late. The staff are generally pretty friendly.

Nice enough gym, but they charged a $15 late fee for being 4 days late once in my 18 months of membership, and they claim they "can't do anything about it". Their payment declined notices are sent by a third party (CSI) that does not authenticate their email, so gmail and any other major provider treats them as spam and you'll never see them. MPHC does not take any responsibility or care. Most businesses will waive a one time fee like that, especially if you don't even get the email. This is poor customer service.

I really enjoy the classes they provide. Tues 9a Flow Yoga with Trevor is very good. Feels more like a mini workout which I like. Weds 9:30a with Elizabeth on Pilates mat is fabulous and well organized. I like her techniques. I’ve only tried Friday Glutes 5:15p with Diana few times but she’s really good. Be ready for a great workout and soreness.

I absolutely adore MPHC. I've been a member for almost 3 years now and attend classes nearly every day. Classes range from HIIT workouts, yoga, pilates, dance (jazz, tap, ballet barre), kickboxing, and TRX. They have a cardio floor upstairs and a weight room downstairs. The pool is always a comfortable temperature with attentive lifeguards that ensure lap lanes are moving with ease. The staff and trainers and instructors are just wonderful... Both friendly and supportive.

I was a member at this gym and was harassed by the old ladies there. I was told by multiple Spanish speaking employees different information about the sauna and steam room policy. One told me I can’t wear this and the other told me I couldn’t wear that. It seemed the team was not unified on the policy and the Spanish speaking employees did not know how to approach guests about accusations made by members. The moment someone complains they would just believe the accuser without investigating to see if it were true or not. These memberships are not cheap so if they want to keep customers, they should respect and value each guest equally. Members were also accusing me of wearing shoes in the steam room when I wasn’t even wearing shoes. It affected my experience and I felt unwelcomed as a member. They need to loosen up and be accepting of people’s differences and this culture of bullying by miserable naked old ladies in the sauna and steam room needs to stop. They also need to improve their cleaning habits because despite my complaints, I still saw the same dirt stains in the showers. I cancelled my membership and joined the Blink fitness by my home. They don’t have a sauna or steam room but at least I am not being harassed and I’m saving a lot more money! At the end of the day it’s a nice gym for what it offers and it’s at a nice location but it has its challenges, especially on the woman’s side.

Very disappointed by customer service. I had sent an email which was not answered regarding ending membership, for only a couple of days gap essentially asking to have a month off since I was not using the gym after travelling abroad for over two months. They sent the bill immediately to collection and I received no emails notifying me of this. I had to call them repeatedly to get this fixed and received no apologies after over a year with this gym. Echo the experience of other people re quality of gym and diversity of things to do vs. price, but expecting better from customer service here.

I chose this gym because it’s a gym, a pool, a spa and a rock climbing facility in one! If you enjoy all these things it will save you so much money! The classes are great almost all included aside from some special ones. The rock climbing equipment is provided including shoes. I use the pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna to encourage myself to go to the gym more regularly. It’s a great motivator for me to treat myself with a spa day after a workout. They also clean the locker rooms and spa areas multiple times a day. You can pay a little extra to get a towel and a permanent locker.

I love this gym so much I am almost reluctant to review it because I want to keep it all to myself!

Excellent value for the price. The pool is large & clean, & your fellow swimmers are courteous. Two hot tubs & a roof deck in the summer.

Dry & steam saunas, day lockers with possibility of renting a full time locker.

Great classes with fun, enthusiastic & kind instructors.

Cardio floor is great, I love the LesMills bike.

There is also a climbing gym & a weight room, which I don’t use but people seem to like.

The vibe is more YMCA than TMPL, which I am totally fine with. I like feeling part of a community when I am there.

Paid upfront for a full year and only received 2 months of membership out of the 12 that I paid for. Horrible staffing and horrible customer service. The sauna/steam room entry area is always flooded with really gross water and on the rare occasion that a staff member cleans it, they’re always wearing their outside shoes…totally unhygienic. There are so many other gyms in the area, I would recommend them over this one.

EDIT 2/28/23:
Disgruntled yes, but I take my reviews very seriously and would never leave a false one. It's rather telling when a business defaults to aggression without fact checking first, especially when so many other reviews are similar to mine... talk about absurd and harmful.
I did pay for a full year right before the pandemic, after which I was told my account would be placed on hold. Upon moving back to the city I was informed (rather rudely by the person on the phone) that it was too late to use the remaining months I had paid for. The last communication I received stated all memberships would resume, however, this was two weeks before all public spaces were shutdown yet again by city mandate. So no, I didn't receive the time I paid for nor did I receive notice that my membership would automatically continue during a city mandated shutdown...either way that's an extremely poor treatment of your members.

I canceled my membership today on May 11th, 2024. After being a member since about 2016 and even through covid. My experiences with the new staff has been not good. Very, very rude staff. A manager who doesn't try to help. I paid for towel service, and they denied me a second towel as my first one got soaked and splashed on by the kids splashing water at the pool. Ask me to pay for a second towel. I get that they have a new policy, but come on, u have nothing to dry myself with. They are very, very rude here.

After collecting myself and drying myself off. I proceeded to talk to the manager to ask to cancel my membership. She directed me to membership in which I did so. They funny thing is I have been a member for almost or over a decade. Not once did she or anyone else ask me what was wrong, how could they help, nothing
That is how they treat their members. Sad I wouldn't have canceled if it wasn't for them.

To be clear, I love the old staff and Michael he is a God send. As for the staff that on may 11th 2024 at around 10.30 am they are very rude and do not care about thier members.

I signed up at this gym two months ago, attracted by their promise of no contractual commitments. However, I've encountered some issues now that I'm relocating from New York. Despite my expectations based on their initial assurances, I've been informed that the earliest I can cancel my membership is in another two months. This has been quite frustrating as it contradicts what was initially communicated to me. This gym has terrible communication regarding financing and I'd suggest an alternative gym

Source: Google

David Cline

★ 5

Don’t mind the oddball people leaving low ratings: the cancellation comments are irrelevant because they didn’t read the contract. That’s not on the gym.

This facility may not be the latest cutting edge gym, but the staff take good care of it. I’ve only gone a handful of times since signing up but every time I’ve been there, someone has been vacuuming / sweeping / dusting around equipment and this really makes a difference to me.
I’ve been a member of other bigger multi-location gyms in the city and most of them end dusty and dirty everywhere because their staff are lazy 20 year olds.
Every staff member at MPHC I’ve encountered has been chill / friendly and feels like they care about how everything is operating here.
There are so many different types of physical activities offered and they’re all included in their membership which keeps things simple.
I’m glad to have this place in my neighborhood.

Their management team, especially someone named Scott Salmon, is extremely rude. It's not worth going there; they don't deserve our business. Everyone at the pool uses their cell phones, some taking photos, with no objections. When I requested an official permission for taking photos during non-busy times, I received a rude reply insisting on a $500 fee. If privacy is a concern, why is this common practice for others without any intervention? Also, we will never take photos for other people, I don't know why they keep saying something like worry about their photos being posted on social media.

I've been coming to this place on and off for 10 years and the fact I haven't gotten a membership yet, is crazy. Because its definitely worth it! First off, I know you want to know the important things:

Fees:
Day pass: 40 weekdays, 50 Weekend (and maybe holidays)
Membership: 104 a month plus "Initiation fee" (About 50 or less I believe). No contract. This pass allows you to stay all day, use all the facilities and you can leave and return as long as you have a receipt.

Facility:

Pool: Olympics sized, multiple lanes and a deep end that goes to 12 feet. Two hot tubs. During the summer the glass ceiling opens up and so does the patio, which is very spacious. The bathroom in the pool side sucks though.

Gym: Down a flight of steps at the very bottom. Pretty small gym but if its not packed, you can get a very good workout. Again, small but has everything you need and then some. Heavy bags, focus mitts and kick shields, 3 squat racks and more. Plenty of apparatus to use.

Studios: One main dance studio that's used for yoga, dancing, TRX and if its empty, is available for use. Another small stretching room down the hall.

Rock climbing gym: Small but very good for everything else you get. Legit bouldering and climbing.

Tennis: Right near the pool on the outside patio, is where the tennis dome is. Don't know much about it but its there.

Cardio: A small cardio room upstairs from the entrance.

Misc: Sauna room in the locker room and message room down the hall

Overall, if you pay for a day pass or a membership, you really get a whole lot of bang for your buck and serves your needs. If you're looking for a big gym, this probably wouldn't suit your needs but it can definitely more then get the job done. The pool can use an upgrade BUT I'm also not complaining. The rest of the facility is nice and clean, well maintained. If you want a little of everything with very good quality, I highly recommend MPHC.

However, if you're looking for a big gym to lift, not the place. Otherwise, if everything else meets your needs, you'll be pressed to find a place like MPHC with the price and location.

PROS:
-Location is super convenient, right in the middle of Times Square
-For the price, you really get so much use of the facility
-TOWEL SERVICE YAY! For you towel service fanatics
-Good staff
-Cool classes

CONS:
-The pool is good, don't get me wrong but looks dated but otherwise is perfectly fine. THE MAIN issue is the pool bathroom sucks
-Small gym albeit does have everything you are looking for but it is small and can be a little condensed at certain hours. I know some people who alternate between the gym here and Midtown Gym around the corner.

VERDICT: Definite go!

Its unfortunate when a gym is trying their hardest not to honor guest passes on a call with a former member.

This is the experience I had with Felicia recently.

I was hoping to use a few club passes because I wanted to get a quick workout in without having to be "tied-down" to a monthly or yearly contract.

I called to see if I could use the passes I had.

I was told someone would call me back. A few hours later, Felicia responded.

I had told her that I wanted to use these passes but she then tells me that those were tied to an active user's account meaning that someone who does not have a gym membership cannot use them without the member being present.

Following up from that, I ask her where are the Terms and Conditions that would dictate this and she says well, thats been our policy on the contract.

And then she follows up by saying the guest passes are old and are no longer in use. I did not even mention what kind of passes.

This is primo marketing for sure (End Sarcasm).

For real though, if you are a small gym, you would think that you would be a little more flexible in allowing things to pass because experiences like these add up to your reputation.

This is a neighborhood gym which has its locals who are going to rally around the place but if you are looking to join a gym, go to Equinox or Blink Fitness.

I love this place. I kind of want to keep this gym as a "secret place" so that it doesnt get too overcrowded! But it is worth highlighting why this is the best health club in the city. First of all, their staffs make this place amazing. Such friendly and genuine group of people. You feel instantly welcomed and part of the club. The equipments are well maintained and super clean, and not crowded at all. The swimming pool is really one of the best in the city. There is a sense of community and the members respect each other's space and time.

An adequate over priced pool, generally unwelcoming staff and wretched customer service. The month to month plan is onerous and requires an arbitrary amount of months in advance to even quit. And then they threaten you with a collections agency. Definitely much better gyms with pools in nyc. Pretty big disappointment

Probably the best pool in the city - a lot of charm and the staff is super friendly. Weight room is a little small but very well maintained.

The worst customer service ever. They don't know how to speak with clients. Messed up with my payment method and couldn't figure it out. Too arragant and rude. Do not recommend.

Facilities are good for what you get. Staff kind of sucks, imagine getting a stank attitude everytime you have a question when they’re not even doing anything but having small talk about bs at the counter. I wanted to get my invoices for company reimbursement and it’s a $5 fee just to pull that! My exp with Jonathan and Elizabeth were great though.

Great pool! One of the very best in the city. (It’s actually my favorite) Kept cool for lap swimmers! Yay! Gym very fine also. Lots of aces equipment. Knowledgeable trainers. Friendly staff. Great value. It’s the best gym/ pool combo I’ve ever belonged to.

Terrible and greedy management. There’s a 30 day cancellation clause in the contract which should be waived if you’re moving further than 25 miles but they still tried to charge me for an extra month. I offered to settle up but they wanted $15 to reprocess the payment.

Good variety of free weights and equipments, pool, steam room, sauna and whirlpools. They have a good number of classes all day. The locker room is well kept and clean (the men's locker room at least). The price is not absurd given the amount of amenities that are included (note that rock climbing and tennis are extra) and the best thing: the gym doesn't get too crowded.

Great customer service, very friendly staff- didn’t feel intimated walking in my first day. They have all types of equipment you can think off, & of course the jacuzzi & pool is also a plus! It can be a bit busy during peak hours, but even then there’s so many equipments you really don’t have to wait for any machines.
