The maintenance at this gym is atrocious. The paper towel dispenser in the bathroom is almost always empty, the latch on just about every locker is loose enough to the point where if someone really wanted to just yank it off they probably could. The machines are also quite outdated (except for the cardio equipment) which I wouldn’t have a problem with if more than half of them didn’t have loose bolts and feel janky. They really need to just have a group of handymen run loose with screwdrivers and wrenches for about 5 hours. Also broken machines take way too long to repair. One of the two fly machines has been down for weeks. All of this should the bare minimum standard for a good gym.

I love this gym! There is so much variety in the machines, so if you want to switch it up one day you have options. The staff are very hospitable and welcoming every visit. Also, there is always someone cleaning every time I’ve gone, which gives me peace of mind for my germophobia.

I personally love this club! I have been going here for almost a year now. My wife and I moved here from out of state and they helped it feel like home here! All of there staff are extremely kind and personable. Not to mention the great facilities and activities. There large weight room in the back is packed with plenty of free weights and equipment perfect for any gym rat. Add that to all there cardio machines and weight machines in the front room, perfect for a good cool down or a good warm up. It’s a good price for a good place. No need to skip this place for the bad reviews, that all seem to be about the broken AC in the past. Because the employees are kind and the facilities are more than adequate. Don’t miss out and make a longer commute over someone else’s grumpy review. Just go here and get fit, with nice people and good vibes.

Trainers are not a dime a dozen. They are not all the same. They should be measured by their knowledge, attention to detail, ability to understand your needs and improve your overall performance, strength, mobility, and endurance. I have had several trainers over the years, treated with Physical Therapy twice for crippling back pain, and struggled with keeping my weight at a manageable level. Some of the trainers I had focused on food (protein, protein, protein..), others focused on traditional weight lifting, sit ups, and planks. None of it was interesting. It felt like I was in a high school gym class. Then I met James McLear (Jay). There are trainers and there are TRAINERS. Jay is a TRAINER! He taught me how to focus on strengthening my core with movements which mirror my everyday activities. He made the experience unique and invigorating. Through his training, I learned how essential a stronger core is to my overall fitness and eliminating my back pain. Most of all, I learned when my movements and workouts were done incorrectly, it had an adverse effect. I found a diamond in Jay. Because of his training, I'm stronger, wiser, and more resilient. As far as TRAINERS go, he is exceptional!

Haven’t posted in a while as I don’t expect much from this location. HVAC been awful for 30 years. However today was egregiously hot. Cardio area 82 degrees. Had to leave after 10 minutes. Update. June 10. 3 pm. 79 degrees in cardio area. Outside it was only 73. Wait until June 14…we’re gonna have a heatwave. 90+. I was encouraged to go on the website and leave comments. Will do so. Encourage others to do the same. There is power in numbers. TSI needs to see that lots of members are angry. The hvac update will take a few months I was told. I don’t really wanna have to go to another club. I WOULD like to see a courtesy reduction of at least $10 per month until the club hvac is truly fixed. Update June 21 2024. Yup. Went on the website a week + ago and no response. Am I surprised ? No.

Yeah! HVAC seems to be fixed as of late August. So I have increased the stars. Still bitter about paying same rate for many months of terrible hvac but hopefully things are looking up.

As of May 2025 things are good.

I need to add my recommendation of personal trainer Jason Salgado -- absolutely the best. I've been working with him for about 18 mos... started at Dobbs Ferry (which is home) and have followed him to Croton location. He's incredibly professional, thoughtful, attentive, responsive; he's genuinely caring; and he's made a huge difference in my health (I'm stronger, fitter, and about 15 lbs lighter).

I’ve been working with Jason Salgado for six weeks. He is extremely nice and very knowledgeable about how to exercise various muscles. Jason is teaching me how to properly use the gym equipment which increases my comfort level and confidence. He’s patient, professional, and a pleasure to work with while motivating me to try my best. I also attend Silver Sneakers classes led by Pam McKenna. The routines provide a mix of exercises to promote movement, balance, and strength training using stretch bands, weights, and balls. Pam is excellent at instructing the class while making it enjoyable with her wonderful manner. Her classes are always full which is a testament to her skill as an instructor.

I joined the NYSC in Croton-On-Hudson in January 2025 and just completed 3 months of personal training (two 1-hour sessions per week) with Jason Salgado. He tailored my regimen to ensure that I would make steady progress without risk of injury. I am definitely committed to continuing the routines on my own, although I will miss Jason's friendly manner and encouragement. I highly recommend Jason Salgado if you are looking for a great personal trainer. I also have been attending a Silver Sneakers class led by Pamela McKenna twice a week. Her 45-minute class is great fun and very well attended. In the beginning, I thought the routines might not be sufficiently challenging. However, the mild soreness I experienced 24 hours after each session were proof that I needed the exercise. As the weeks went by, the soreness subsided, but my enthusiasm for Pam's class remains.

Jason Salgado is my personal trainer at Croton NYSC and he simply the best. I usually go to the NYSC in Dobbs Ferry, but when Jason started working exclusively in Croton, I followed him because he pushes me to be a better athlete. To be clear, I am a 40+ working mom, so "athlete" might be a stretch, but I feel incredibly strong and capable thanks to Jason. I always want to make sure I am maintaining my form. Jason understands this and explains each exercise so I feel comfortable and knowledgable. I highly, highly recommend him.

In terms of the club itself, it's sort of small but in my experience the machines all work well and it's clean. I'm not there for spa treatments, I'm there to work!

It's a free for all here. A complete mess 99% of the time. Nothing is in order, machines are all old and missing parts. I'm not sure what the purpose of the front desk staff is, they walk around the gym, but don't seem to do anything. There's weights all over the floor, nobody picks them up. Parents just off their kids, who leave this place a disaster and it just stays that way. Day 98 things have gotten worse. Demotion to 1 star.. Nobody cares to fix or replace a damn thing

Absolutely the worst gym I have ever encountered. The roof has been leaking for YEARS, placing huge garbage cans under the leaks is the way it’s handled, I could only imagine the mold in the rafters behind the water stained ceiling tiles. The air conditioning is broken and NYSC has decided that commercial free standing units inside will do the trick lol, they exhaust more heat than cold air into the gym. The equipment is all old and usually broken. Broken machines stay broken for weeks. The temperature in the disgusting bathrooms are well in the 90s. There’s never any paper towels to dry hands or to wipe filthy greasy head sweat from the benches. Not sure why White plains and Hawthorn NYSC are beautiful and Croton is like the NYSC outlet of broken sale items. Whoever is responsible should be embarrassed. Absolute worst gym I’ve ever been to in my entire life. Machines are outdated and constantly broken. Management is incompetent and give members problems about basic provisions. Specifically the assistant general manager is horribly rude to guests. Extremely overpriced gym for what you get. Have been told for over a year that the air conditioning will be fixed without any actual progress. It is consistently 85 degrees + in this gym (see attached picture with 90 degree inside temperature) which poses an extreme health risk to those with preexisting conditions, not to mention the unbearable experience of exercising in the absurd heat. I don’t understand how no action is taken to improve this problem. No management ever addresses any issues and simply brushes them off when guests bring them up. Almost all members that I speak to feel the same way. Thankfully I am a full time student and only come to this gym over the summers when I return from college. When I graduate I will be moving to literally any other gym in the area. Would never recommend anyone to this gym and would encourage anyone currently going here to look elsewhere as well. Until higher management decides to pay any attention to this location, stay far away.

Please close this Croton site down for a week or for however long it takes, and truly address the HVAC system! These bandaid fixes with giant freestanding AC units and fans don’t actually cool the gym. The garbage cans and buckets to collect dripping water from the ceiling is ridiculous. Not a one time quick fix, but seems to be the ordinary everyday fix when it rains (for years).
Then the winter heating issue, with quite the temperature change from one side to the other. Sweatshirt on sweatshirt off and then on again as you move through the gym. I would love to update my review when these issues are addressed.

I’ve been coming to NYSC Croton for about 10 years. There are always issues, but you tolerate them. Issues include constant broken machines with slow repair time and that quickly break again. Consistent leaks in the ceiling are “solved” by putting a garbage can underneath them. I’m sure it’s not only a safety hazard but a health hazard. This past winter there was no heat in the gym on and off all winter. Today, and for the last couple of weeks, it is unbearably hot with no functioning air conditioning. We all expect a sweat when we come to the gym but it is stuffy, humid and unbearable. There are several older individuals who come to the gym and NYSC is waiting for a lawsuit if something happens to one of them. There has been no notifications about the AC, when or even if it will be fixed. I’m sure the response will be we can utilize another NYSC. However what’s truly interesting is that the other businesses in the strip of buildings attached to the gym all have functioning AC. Is it too much to ask for the gym that I find convenient for me to respond in a timely and responsible manner and fix a system that has not worked for over a year? Disappointing.

I’ve been coming to Croton for over 7 years. During this time I have seen this gym deteriorate significantly. Leaking ceilings, non existent air conditioning, equipment not working properly and wood floors that are damaged by the water and leaking issues, this gym is an accident ready to happen. Management seems unable to resolve any of the issues despite the many complaints. Corporate managers have turned a deaf ear to customer complaints but still we get charged regular monthly fees while we don’t get the basics. I don’t know how this gym has not been shut down. I pay extra to be able to go to other gyms which offer a more pleasant workout experience, I only stay at this gym for one instructor, when she leaves, so will I.

Overall great gym. Although there’s a hole in the ceiling that leaks water when it rains (been there since ‘04), occasional natural gas leaks, stolen or missing pins for cable machines, stolen or missing dumbbells, several broken machines, and horrible temperature control (the place is basically falling apart and obviously neglected by the NYSC Corporation), I’d say I can get a good workout in and it gets the job done.

DO NOT USE THIS GYM!!!! Worst gym I’ve ever been to in my life. Currently 3 out of 8 cable machines broke. (Have been for
Monthsssss) in my three years there don’t think there has ever been every machine working at the same time. Worst trainers I’ve ever seen. Constantly talking to friends, not paying attention to clients, clients don’t seem to be even breaking a sweat. Had two friends who tried to have a trainer for a couple weeks and said they got nothing from it and were better off on their own. Trainers have their groups of friends that take over whole areas and don’t move for 30 minutes while they sit there eating their lunch gossiping. Half the front desk staff is great the other half is watching Netflix, talking on their phone not paying attention to you or even answering back “have a nice day” or “thank you”
Let alone them saying it first. Go anywhere else please!!!! Take this as a warning!

I signed on for a month to month deal that guaranteed the final two months of the year would be free. (This induced me to sign up in late October.) I was told I would have to pay $5 up front, but would otherwise be free to cancel at any time with no charge. I was told there was a yearly fee that I would not be charged because I was coming in late. I realized shortly thereafter that I would not be going to the gym as I had optimistically believed I might, but held off on cancelling for a few weeks because I believed I had time. One $69.99 charge on my account in mid December later, I realized that I could not cancel my account unless I came in person to the location to do so. After speaking to the manager, he told me that not only would I not get any of my “yearly fee” back, but the cancellation would take 45 days to go through, in which time I would be charged the monthly fee starting in January. He told me that this was standard and that he didn’t know why the representative who signed me up lied to me, but this was the deal. This manager—Jose, I believe—clearly had no interest in being honest, open, or fair. This business engages in dishonest business practices and fraudulent misrepresentation, presumably relying on the notion that nobody would be willing to take them to small claims court over sums that usually wouldn’t be considerable or bank-breaking. I have advice for people who aren’t litigiously inclined or who fee cheated: look at your contract, which they must provide, and be prepared to take them to small claims court. You don’t need a lawyer, and it only takes a little bit of time to do. That’s what I’m about to do.

Terrible administration. The gym is not bad but the administration is a complete disaster. The told my family when we subscribe that we can cancel the account for free before 10 days guess what happen. They every time that we went to cancel the account of one of my sister told us to come later that they can’t do that that we gotta talk to the manager, ok we talk to the manager the make her sign something and the next time we ask for it the cancelation that we filled out disappear then again they made a cancelation and supposedly they send the cancelation to the company but when we got home we realize that they even asked for the name of the person that wants to cancel, making clear that the cancelation is not happening and they fool us. And I can bet that they will say that the company declined it but it will just be excuse as always.
I think the phrase of the gym should be “come in if you want, get out if you can”.

The cardio equipment is broken and never gets repaired. The weight pads are torn and also never get replaced. The staff is nice and says they try to get equipment fixed but nothing ever happens. The place is at rock bottom and I can say this after being an ex-employee and member for 24 years. No one from cooperate ever respond to emails or phone calls. I was even harassed by an employee and no one on the cooperate level ever responded to me.

If you were signed up on a promotion just know your fees will increase $10 yearly ( no notice, no heads up, nothing.... they will just increase)
$ 10 cancelation fee
After you cancel they advise you that you can still use the gym for 45 days in case you change your mind. Little do you know that even if you don't use it after you cancel they charge you $26.
If you cancel after your yearly fee is due, there is no refund of any type.
Be prepared to have numerous machines not working, club lockers room not clean. Only upside is the staff friendly.

My only major complaint is the men's locker room always has a terrible smell, they have to do something that can control the odor in the men's Locker room. The men's locker room is not mainted well. The showers have mold and are dirty and need regrouting, the sauna is dirty and has splintered seats. There is old gum on the carpet and it is worn and dirty. Compared to the Hawthorne NYSC this place is a.pigsty. Complaining to management got nowhere. The Board of Health should be called and NYSC Town Corp. should be embarrassed by this facility. They should clean it up and maintain it like the Hawthorne facility. Do not go there.

I am an active club member. The club is very dirty. They don't have cleaning wipes since Christmas 2018. They have broken equipment. Treadmills are broken as well. Old equipment. They do not want to fix their broken equipments. Horrible place to work out. New York state should take action on their dirty environment.

This club is awful. The only thing they have enough of in this club is 'out of order' signs. Locker rooms are gross. Doors on the lockers are torn off and broken. Terrible or non existent heat in the workout room in the winter and AC barely works in the summer. The staff are really nice, but they simply can not overcome the intentional neglect of the NYSC corporate of this location. FYI, all of these pictures were taken on the SAME DAY! DO NOT JOIN HERE

The General Manager, Jose, was a very unpleasant person to work with. I cancelled my membership he was unwilling to help me. I asked to speak to his manager and he said that was not possible. They have a very nice woman there Mrs. Graham who was very eager and willing to help and a pleasure to speak with, but her hands were tied by her manager. I will never deal with New York Sports Club again and the way the general manager speaks with people is unprofessional.

Make sure you check your credit card statements after you cancel your membership, they charge you the annual membership fee for no reason (even after cancellation), I tried to reach out to their manager 2-3 times, left voice mail and did not get any replies, then i disputed the $69.99 annual membership fee to my credit card and then they charged me $10 cancellation fee (I was like ok, let it be and i do not have time to go after them anymore and i left it). After 2 weeks they again charged me $69.99 to my other card which i used to signup the first time i became a member (I cancelled my membership twice). I will go ahead and check the statements from last year to see if they charged me the annual membership fee last year...!
The gym equipment and cleanliness is a different topic which i am not even mentioning in my review, worst management and not at all customer friendly. Stay away from this gym.

I am giving the Croton NYSC 5 stars because it’s manager and staff are outstanding. My wife and I have belonged to clubs that are more luxurious but this one is far more affordable and conveniently located. We are not willing to pay for frills. For our purposes, this club is ideal.

Very poor customer service , I’ve been going to this gym for many many many years . I’ve been overcharged extra fees , and it’s so disappointing because this is the only local gym around my community . Throughout the years I’ve never had problems with the fees, they overcharged my member services without any notice they will raise prices, i find that very unprofessional. Second they overcharged yearly fees twice and i was told “ i have to wait for corporate to review the error”. I have waited over two weeks to see my refund on my account and it’s still not submitted, they are so promptly charging but yet accept its their error and won’t refund the money immediately. I decided to freeze my account untill this issue was resolved, and they decided to charge me another fee for freezing my account . This is ridiculous, and very poor customer service. It’s sad i have to say this but now my only option is to cancel my services. I would really think twice before joining. If they are charging me so much money they should atleast keep the gym clean and update their old broken machines .

I did a bad review before, because I was unhappy with the long time broke machines, and somethings more, but now I can say that those things are going good, they fix them and the manager spoke with me about that. I have been going to new york sports for 3 years and I can say that they are doing good things to be better everyday.

I wasn't impressed by this place at all. Not spacious enough, the equipment is dirty and old, and so is the rest of the gym. The entire interior building just seems like its in a dilapidated state that is in desperate need of repair or an overhaul. On the plus side, if you can overlook all that, they do provide a decent set of varied equipment and include a sauna.

The manager Shanitra is an absolute gem. She's understanding, reasonable and treats people very well. Her attentiveness and customer service alone should be enough of a reason to join this specific gym.

As for NYSC as a whole, the corporation itself is full of money hungry people who just want to scam their customers through deceptive subscription platforms and technicalities. Not the way to go and very short term thinking. You people could learn a thing or two from her.

As others said, not much other options. Plenty of parking. Equipment regularly broken and not fixed for weeks, bathrooms and showers are kind of disgusting, lockerrooms are below below average, sauna is disgusting, equipment labels are worn away and almost unreadable, staff is not useful except for folding towels and scanning a badge, and a plethora of other problems. Don't expect much. It's over priced for how low quality the place is. They have free towels which I guess is a plus, but not much else. They let weights get very disorganized and tough to find anything since they do not keep is clean. Just a very poorly run gym.

this place should be removed from association from all other nysc locations. if i wasn't a member and patron of other locations, this location would be a deal breaker of my financial support. one star only because it's mandatory in order to put up a post. very unclean. very old equipment. but , shout out to the staff at the front desk, very welcoming, which is deceiving to what the location really has to offer.
