A Long-Time Member's Honest Review

When NYSC Sunnyside first opened its doors in the 2000s, it was a game-changer for our neighborhood. The community was thrilled to finally have a quality fitness facility right here in Sunnyside. Everything was pristine – sparkling clean equipment, immaculate facilities, and a management team that truly cared about maintaining excellence. The managers and staff were always on top of everything, ensuring the gym remained in perfect condition. You could feel the pride they took in their facility, and it showed in every corner of the gym.

As time passed, however, things began to change. Managers came and went, and with each transition, the gym seemed to lose a bit of its original luster. The once-new machines started showing their age, and maintenance became increasingly poor. Equipment that should have been repaired or replaced was left to deteriorate, creating a frustrating experience for members who had grown accustomed to better standards.

Then COVID-19 hit, and the fitness industry took a devastating blow. Many gym locations across the city were forced to permanently close their doors. Fortunately, NYSC Sunnyside managed to weather the storm and keep operating, which was a relief for the local community that had come to depend on this facility.

This past month has brought some welcome changes. NYSC Sunnyside has undergone upgrades and acquired new machines, which is fantastic news for all members. It's encouraging to see investment being made in the facility again. However, there's still work to be done to restore this gym to its former glory.

As a long-time member who has witnessed both the highs and lows of this facility, I'd like to offer some constructive suggestions:

1. Floor Staff Presence
The gym would greatly benefit from having staff members actively walking the floor. This serves multiple purposes: helping members who might not know how to use equipment properly (which also prevents machine damage), ensuring member safety, and creating opportunities to build the personal training client base. You never know when that person you help might become interested in personal training services.

2. Music Volume Control
While the music selection is great, it would be appreciated if the volume could be kept at moderate levels, especially during morning hours. Most members wear headphones and would prefer a more peaceful environment early in the day.

3. Weight Re-racking Enforcement
Clear signage should be displayed throughout the gym, reminding members to re-rack their weights properly. It's time to teach gym etiquette and start issuing warnings to members who consistently leave weights scattered around the floor.

4. Bathroom Maintenance Awareness Signs above the sinks reminding members to turn off faucets after washing their hands would help prevent water waste. Too many members leave the water running.

5. Hand Washing Hygiene
Signage above urinals reminding men to wash their hands before returning to the gym floor is essential. Members who skip this basic hygiene step then proceed to handle weights and machines, creating unsanitary conditions for everyone.

6. Sauna Etiquette
Rules should be enforced requiring members to rinse off before entering the sauna. Entering with sweaty gym clothes should be prohibited at all times for hygiene and comfort reasons.

7. Expand Kettle bell Selection
While the new equipment is appreciated, the kettle bell selection needs attention. The heaviest option is only 52 pounds. More kettle bells in various weights above 52 pounds would greatly enhance the functional fitness options.

8. Trainer Accountability
Personal trainers should also be held accountable for re-racking weights and returning equipment to its proper location after using them. They often move equipment around during sessions but don't always return items to their designated areas.

With the recent upgrades, there's renewed hope that this gym can return to the high standards it once maintained. You guys are almost there.

Love the location. The Associates are very helpful and polite. Finally, they received the Leg Extension Machine! Now the gym is almost complete! Hopefully they can monitor the floor a bit more so people don't do crazy things with the weights, benches, and other gym equipment, but otherwise, love this gym.

So many basic dysfunctional things about this gym. Will amend my review if these things change. I have brought these up to staff and management.

1. No tissues in the bathrooms… you heard it right. You want to blow your nose before you go into the sauna? You better either go to the front desk where they keep a solitary tissue box, or fumble for a handful of one ply toilet paper. PS: they used to have paper towels out, clearly a top down cost saving measure.

2. Close way too early on weekends (7PM on Saturday). Please PUT BACK the weekend hours to align with the weekdays hours.

3. No scale. Do you want to weigh yourself after a gym session? Too bad! They used to have one out. Clearly it broke and the management just refuses to replace jt. So pathetic. Oh yea they also have a cheap “body fat analyzer” that you can only used by appointment. This gym is so dysfunctional lol.

4. Water fountain broken! Yup - another thing that broke a few months ago that they just refuse to fix. Noticing a trend? If you want to refill your water bottle they have low pressure fountain you can struggle to use. Hope you don’t get thirsty while exercising. Just remember to bring your own water.

5. General gym etiquette is lacking and never enforced. There is actually generally good vibes among the gym goers- however I readily find weight left out in the middle of the floor/not put back. I have been to planet fitnesses with better gym etiquette.

They capitalize on it being the only gym in the area. Clearly nysc is more interested in pouring resources into the Astoria/other locations than this one. Don’t recommend!

Edit: the layout has improved. I have therefore added one star. Glad to nysc step it up even though it’s the bare minimum. Will come to edit my review if things improve.

Edit 2 : water fountain partially works now; they added new machines. I grant one more star.

The equipment is adequate however the hours are not. On Fridays they close at 9pm and many people have to leave in the middle of their workout. On Saturday and Sunday they close at 7pm. With so many members and so little space, there is not enough time to use the machines. If I want to use a weight machine between 7pm and 9pm on weeknights I have to wait long periods. I will say the staff are friendly and helpful I just don’t like the hours.

I wanted to join this gym because it’s close to my job. I tried another location in Astoria but want to try this one because it’s closer to my job and wanted to see if I want all locations. Person at the front desk wouldn’t honor the pass, despite me never being to the location and being interested in joining. Told me it would be $20. This gym has terrible reviews so I wanted to give it a shot. Lost my time in the morning on the way to work. Won’t be joining this gym since I couldn’t try it and the reviews are very bad. Furthermore - front desk man decided to look in my wallet to see I have an old NJ ID and tell me that I couldn’t come because of that even though I have a NYC ID i was pulling out. He told me I needed a NYS drivers license…so you also need a DRIVERS LICENSE to join this gym. None of this is posted on the website. I will not be coming back and I suggest anyone interested look at the reviews and call. This is one of many reasons NYSC has closed most locations and gone bankrupt.

I pay for a membership to go to group yoga and a sauna once a week. When I bought it, there were three yoga classes a week, but they took one out and there are only two left. Not only is the women's sauna smaller than the men's, but the bench is broken and they won't even try to fix it. When I get out of the sauna, I'm thirsty, I can ignore the fact that the water pressure from the faucet next to the sauna is extremely weak, but how can I ignore the unsanitary state of that faucet when I have to bend over because of the weak pressure, stand two inches from the dirt and look right at it every time? The dirt on the wall doesn't wash off for months, and the dirt around the faucet, I don't know how long it takes for that to accumulate, just look at it. How can they leave that for months? Are they waiting for the dirt to fall off the faucet and float away on its own?

I give two stars, one for the front desk staff and one for the yoga instructors, but their cleaning standards are disgusting to me, so minus three stars.

Hope to see a clean faucet in the women's locker room on my next visit.

They raised the rates twice in the past two years speaking about improvements. The only improvement is some new paint (which the new paint has been there for a while to the point that now there is a ton of scuffs and nicks in it. Which is wild). When I ask about the additional improvements it’s always that it will “happen soon!!”. There are no towels which is okay but there is also no paper towels which isn’t great from a sweat perspective. Sauna bench in the women’s locker room has been lopsided and dilapidated since I joined over three years ago, so I know they aren’t paying attention. Water fountain sensor has been broken for months. This is not including machines that are broken or have rust issues where people put their hands. Lastly they have rolls in the front that are supposed to be used for the improvements that have been there since before Christmas!! The workers can’t even take a semi-private convo with prospective customers because it’s blocked.

It is clean enough and has the equipment I need but if you are comparing it to the closest NYSC gym in Astoria you would have thought this was a neglected step child. The one thing I will say is the workers are great and there are some incredible classes, but again, there are connection issues with the speakers, no mics for the instructors. It’s not right.

NYSC do better man. There is no reason this should take this long for a gym so small but with such high utilization.

The gym is small, machines/locker room are not well maintained and it gets super crowded most of the time. Been a NYSC member throughout the years and tried other gyms and by far this location is the worst. The location is too small for the amount of members it services while the equipment is super worn out. The gym at this location needs to invest into expanding and new equipment. Instead the owners put money into repainting a few walls and relying on being the only gym in Sunnyside. Think twice before being a member. They’ll cut corners before giving you a good gym…. Think about it other nysc locations give you towels, this location can’t even do that.

- Water fountains are broken.
- There is a broken pipe somewhere under the floor, because there is hot, smelly water leaking through the fake-grass workout area.
- One of the elliptical machines has been standing in the middle of the walkway for weeks following a paint job; clearly noone cares enough to move it back.
- Lack of weight light weight plates. The smallest increment is 10 lb, which is ridiculously high if you're trying to build gradually.
- Always super crowded. Only one cable machine, which usually is occupied by the same people for hours.
- I've been to many gyms and this is by far the worst.

How have we been missing pins in machines for two years. They raised the prices and it's still impossible to do strength training when you can only increase weight by 15lbs at a time. Plus, now with the added cost, it seems machines are disappearing.

Equipment is outdated and often broken, which is frustrating given the high monthly membership fee. For the price we pay, they should be maintaining or upgrading the machines regularly. It feels like they’re not investing back into the facility, and the poor condition of the equipment really detracts from the overall experience.

As a paying member, I’m extremely disappointed with the state of this gym. For the membership price we pay, it’s unacceptable that most of the machines are broken or not working properly. This has been an ongoing issue with little to no improvement, and it feels like management doesn’t prioritize maintaining the equipment. Members deserve better for the cost we’re incurring, and it’s time for a significant change. Please address this immediately.

Give it an A rating for Adequate
Broken equipment some takes weeks to months to repair.
Men's locker room finally got a new hair dryer told the manager to secure it and less than a week it was stolen. Now the one there only works on the low setting and it's about totally useless. Management keeps telling us they're going to make renovations because there's no way to come the gym was painted in 2023 being done while the members were in there using the equipment. They said there's going to be more renovations and now they're repainting the place again in December. I mentioned the draft colors to the manager in the studio a dark gray black. He told me the studio is going to be close to members I don't even use for classes. I spend an hour and a half from there doing my stretching routine. So now I'm being told I don't have access to the store down after having my membership increased by $5 in November. The manager said not to worry we're going to get rid of a lot of cardio machines I don't have space out on the open floor. The last damn place I want to do my stretching it's in the middle of it gym with the weight machines all about. Management keeps saying they're going to replace machines and that's been going over 2 years we haven't seen any results of it. The only good thing about the gym for me it's close about a 5 minute book from my house.

In this gym you will find very old machines which you barely use because it gets crowd and they are always occupied. The small little sauna for women needs maintenance because is falling apart, you can hear the cracking every time someone move. Bathrooms are dirty. The Zumba class has good instructors, however music is a bit loud. Pilates and Yoga classes are the best classes, great instructors, I wish they had more schedules at night, they definitely should increase more classes, many people go for the small space! This is the only gym around my area but I would prefer going to Astoria instead. Now, if you are more fit and do weights, keep in mind there are not coaches correcting your exercises, they offered $600 packages for personal trainer, so just go there to get hurt or worst scenario to get injuries!

Most of the popular classes are always 'booked'. The washroom (men) carpet is always damp. Machines are broken or busy; defiantly overcrowded and yet they try to sign more people up.
Tried to cancel and they yet decided to charge me because 'oh yeah gotta give them 5 days' notice'.
My recommendation, pay the extra 20$ more and go to another gym.

Now into my second session, I am already witnessing remarkable improvements. Melissa’s expertise extends beyond effective workouts to include crucial stretches that have truly transformed my routine. Her high level of execution and ability to ensure clear understanding is commendable. Additionally, Melissa’s use of data metrics provides a clear picture of my progress and potential, further enhancing the training experience.

I’d hate to leave a negative review, but I am writing this out of extreme concern. This gym is really the only choice for myself and a lot of people who live in Sunnyside. It is so dirty, smells so bad, and unsanitary. The temperature problem has gotten so bad that I was already breaking a sweat before even working out, and when I tried to work out I couldn’t because I felt like I was going to faint. That cannot be good. And it’s been like this for MONTHS and only recently got REALLY REALLY BAD. There are no towels, there are no disposable wipes (there is only a spray bottle and a VERY USED DIRTY RAG), nothing looks like it’s cleaned, and the air quality is just so horrible and nasty. Myself and other people are paying so much money a month for these unsanitary conditions. I hope you read this and actually do something about it and be better because someone can get really sick or hurt. I hope whoever the owner is plans to fix the problem, I hope whoever the owners are want people to have a safe place to work out, not just to collect fees and turn a blind eye.

What an absolute dump. First off, this place still doesn’t have towels available. How long has it been since you reopened after the pandemic now? The other NYSC locations have towels. There is simply no excuse at this point. On top of that, the AC was out. I was drenched in sweat before I even started working out because it was sweltering inside. To the point where I ended my workout early because it was just too hot and I couldn’t do a proper set without feeling dizzy. The weights were everywhere and the kettlebells are a complete mishmash of lbs and kg sets, most of them so old and worn that the weight numbers are rubbed off. The locker room is a horror show. Dirty beyond belief (carpets look like they’ve never been vacuumed and I could feel crunchy little things under my socks as I stepped out of my shoes). And a giant leak/hole in the ceiling. And whereas most gyms contain “locker room” smell to their actual locker rooms, the entire gym has that sweaty foul stench. This place is not only an embarrassment, it’s probably several health violations. Seriously NYSC, WHAT are we paying for?

August 2022 update:
Still no improvements to the club. Air purification and ventilation doesn't work. The club STINKS and has very little air conditioning or air flow. Very bad for COVID-19 and overall respiratory health. Equipment is still old, dirty, and broken. The club is unsafe. Please renovate the club now.

The mens locker room is clean, but desperately needs a renovation. The locker room carpets are stained and moldy. The tiling in the showers needs re-grouting and the drains need unclogging. Equipment on the fitness floor is functional but some seats are broken and a lot of equipment is out of date/old. The astro turf in the green area is mildewed. The club is just okay - especially with increased annual and monthly fees without any towel service. They discontinued towel service to comply with COVID regulations but never brought it back. I'm paying more for less.

The heating is on very high and it feels like a sauna. I have brought this up to the people at the front desk, and their only response is that they will open the front door for ventilation. It’s really unsafe, I feel like I could pass out just from doing a simple workout.

The green turf smells like mildew.

Workout equipment is outdated.

Can management just do a simple restoration of their equipment here? This gym could be so much nicer for the community! It’s literally the only gym in Sunnyside.

Horrible management. At least from 2021. Yesterday i found out they had been charging me monthly fees (and annual fee) since last year around the time they closed down the showers due to covid. I had requested it to be closed but girl offered to put it on pause- but it wasn't neither cancelled nor put on pause! Yesterday i went to ask questions about any specials because i wanted to start working out there again because they opened up showers and no vaccine proof required...but guy there informed me they had been charging membership fees all this time! Manager there now said sorry we can't do anything about our mistakes and only offered 3 months credit when they have been taking my money for almost a year!

I gotta be honest I’m pretty low maintenance when it comes to gyms. I was looking for a gym to workout in after work, and I gotta say I’m extremely happy with this location. The staff was incredibly kind to me, and the trainer I had (Rachel) was 10/10. She understood my physical limitations, and conditions! The rest of the staff was not pushy at all when it came to signing up and they even explained everything to me very clearly! It was pretty busy when I went but there were plenty of machines to use and everyone was pretty clean overall! I recommend if you’re a low maintenance gym user like me who just wants to workout with no drama or wild amenities!

6/23/2021 update
The pandemic wreaked havoc on everybody. But happily they stayed opened as much as possible. Looking away from some questionable billing during this period, I think they did a pretty good job during tough times. And the staff, as always has been the case, is really great. They've earned a better rating. I hope it sticks.

2/19/2019 update
: it continues to get worse. Today it closed with nothing more than a sign on the front door that reads "The department of buildings has determined that conditions in this premises are imminently perilous to life." How long? Good question. I think we'd all like to know.

9/11 update: the improvements aren't happening. It would really benefit from some onsight management. The equipment functions but the issues I noted below haven't changed and the competing sound systems are ridiculous.

5/21 update: the business director contacted me this afternoon and the conversation was encouraging. And he explained how they were trying to make improvements. So giving credit where credit is due, toning it down a little and thanks to Paul.

I have been a member of this club for over 6 years and I miss the gym that it used to be. Roughly two years ago their membership structure changed as well as their rates (which were almost halved) and since then it has been a downhill ride. It's become increasingly crowded and dense, noisy with overlapping sound systems and generally less respectful: members of the gym and of one another. Finally, and what has prompted me to write a review, my locker was broken into this past weekend and my wallet was stripped of all of its cash. Happily they left behind all but the cash and I am grateful for that. But two years or more ago this just does not seem that it have happened (5/21 - according to business director there was a spate of thefts three years ago). Now, I was not surprised so I guess shame on me. One plus is the staff at the desk. They are always extremely pleasant and have gone above and beyond the call of duty. By far the gym's greatest asset! Another is the towel service. I don't understand gyms without towels.

Very dishonest billing practices. I joined back in 2016 and was a member for almost 4 years. They would periodically raise my rate by $5 a month. By the time I cancelled my membership, I was paying $20 a month more than a new member.

I discussed this with the manager David (who is still the manager), and he told me it was in my contract and he would fix it. It was neither in my contract (which I read again), nor did he ever reach out again or return my calls.

Another associate at the gym told me my account was upgraded to "Passport" without my consent. He tried to make it sound like this was somehow a good thing.

NYSC was shady long before the whole COVID fiasco. They're advertising that they're under new management. This is a lie. David is still the manager at the Sunnyside location. Avoid at all costs.

In response to corporate, your response is baffling. You have my phone number and have called it multiple times to try to get me to rejoin. I can only conclude that you're response is pure posturing.

But they're insisting calling me and leaving me voice mails talking about promotions, this is crazy. I have never had a horrible experience like this before, I even told them this is getting out of control, this is harassment, if you keep contacting me, I'll have to take the legal action against the club but seems like they don't care, I guess I'll have to take the legal action. UPDATE: NYSC is being sued by the AG for fraud so that should be enough to deter you from signing up here. This specific NYSC location on Queens Blvd has 100% contributed to the fraudulent activity and I hope if you’re reading this you also understand there is no NYSC customer service and the email they keep responding with on here to “help people” is BS.

This location isn’t even worth one star. It’s easily the worst gym I have ever worked out in. The machines and equipment are old and are constantly broken, and the turnaround time to fix anything is weeks to months. They randomly increase monthly fees, oh and there’s no customer service line for you to call. The space is super cramped and no one cleans the machines after they use.

Rest assured I canceled my membership (which is a $10 fee to do so) and canceling requires a 45 day notice. Which is the craziest thing I’ve ever heard. 45 days. So you’re charged another month and a half after you cancel. Based off of the other reviews I’m reading I’m sure they’ll have lost my cancelation form and I’ll keep getting charged.

Good luck to you if you decide to sign up. I would rather pay for an Uber to go to CKO Astoria instead to get a good workout and experience real customer service.

This gym had the nerve to charge me in April while the gym was closed due to COVID-19 and refused to return my money. They stated they will apply a credit when the gym opens. I then cancelled my membership and they told me that I wouldn't be charged a cancelation fee, sent me an invoice showing the credit and still charged my account the cancelation fee. On top of that they charged me for the month of September and an annual fee. When I called to speak to the manager, he's never there, they dont answer the phone and the front desk is no help. I emailed Michael Rossito the district manager and have received no response. NYSC Sunnyside are a bunch of thieves that took advantage of all it's members during this pandemic crisis. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves. If anyone is thinking of joining I suggest you don't.

Cancelled my membership the first day they reopened. Received an invoice for $10 cancellation fee as expected. Checking my bank account the next day and notice two charges $10 and then $69.99. I immediately go to the gym and am told that’s my annual fee. The people at the desk were polite but said they couldn’t help me that I had to talk to a manager. I emailed the manager Saturday morning when I was told he would be in (I had work so I couldn’t come in person. I’ve received no response. I’ll go tomorrow in person if I don’t get a response. 1. I would have cancelled my membership before my anniversary date before if the club would have been open and 2. How do you have the nerve to charge an annual fee not on the day you charge my monthly fee but coincidentally the day I cancel after you have been closed for 5 months. I’ll update this review after accordingly but next steps are contacting 7 on your side & the NY AG if management doesn’t remedy this.

An ok gym when everything is working. First off, many cardio machines are broken and remain broken for a really long time (months even). And a lot of their TVs don't work. Elsewhere it feels really cramped and you kind of have to walk through other people's personal sessions to get to the locker rooms. The lockers themselves are really poorly laid out, and I frequently had to stand uncomfortably close to people just to get my stuff. The staff here is great and just doing their job, but I had a really tough time canceling. They gave me so much conflicting information, and they kept charging me even when I canceled. I had to go in twice to make sure that my account was done. My experience here was fine for a while, but then it became annoying. There really aren't tons of gyms in the area, so for many this is the only option. But as their fees just jumped up a lot, you should really put your money elsewhere.

BEWARE of deceptive business practices! I signed and handed a cancellation form to the manager, yet was still charged. So I called and was told I had to come back in person, despite the fact I don’t live remotely close to there at all. They said they’d put in on freeze, but that lasted a month and I’m back to getting charged full amount PLUS an annual fee for a gym I cancelled. Honestly, this is typical for most gyms these days... Invest in home workout solutions.

Update: I’ve called and emailed explaining that I no longer live in the area. I described in detail the form I filled out and who I gave it to. They are so unorganized they can’t figure anything out. I just want it cancelled, why is that so difficult?!

I basically signed it for the yoga classes. It was fine and okey. Until i need to cancel my membership with them. Basically I went to the place, signed the paper of cancellation. However, the Manager named David emailed me that unable to cancel since my bank declined. So i called the club hope to resolve the issues, the front desk was telling me “ my payment looks fine”. So, i emailed The manager David, instead of helping me he wrote an extremely rude email without title or explanation but four declamation marks “ You Bank declined!!!! Your friend at Fitness”
Not very sure why a manager instead of helping ppl are having an such arrogant and unprofessional manners towards a customer. I wrote a complaint online. And the David frd called me in a minute was like “ did you realize your comments comes back to me ? “ instead of apologizing the email.

When I cancelled the membership, they told me that I still could come to gym for 45 days (which I didn't), but they "didn't" tell me that I would be charged for another month. Maybe it's written somewhere on the agreement and I didn't notice; so, BEFORE you SIGN with them read carefully.

Easily the worst gym I've ever been a member of. Extremely overcrowded for the amount of equipment available. My membership fee was increased without my knowledge from $30.00 to $40.00 a month. Considering how horrible this gym is, that price is extremely high. There is only one bench for each inclination (incline/flat/decline) and two squat racks. Can be very difficult using the equipment you need, especially when half of the people that go here sit on their phones for minutes at a time between sets. It’s a gym!

What can I say about NYSC? It’s considered a “nicer” gym, kind of mid-level, existing somewhere between your Planet Fitnesses, and your Equinoxes. That means that at their entry level (worthlessly labeled “premier”) you pay twice as much as the lower tier places, and can only go to one gym. On the plus side you do get unlimited scratchy towels, so there’s that…

Seriously though, having been to several of the lower level gyms, it is a bit nicer. Machines are better quality, weights feel sturdier, cardio machines are smoother, and there’s a bigger variety of equipment available. There is a decent selection of classes, most of which are included in the membership. The few I’ve taken have been great, and the instructors were knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Also, the higher price means it’s generally less popular, and thus, less crowded. It can still get busy during peak times, but in comparison I was at Blink not too long ago, and felt like I was back at Grand Central during rush hour!

But that’s about where the niceness ends. They have eschewed the “fun” color schemes of their competitors, and while that’s a relief compared to the visual assault that is Retro Fitness, it ends up being exceedingly bland. It’s basically plain and white, but without the designer touches needed to give it a high-end feel. It feels like someone’s finished basement, but bigger. Of course the big problem with all white is it readily shows grime and wear. While I don’t feel like NYSC actually IS dirtier than other similar gyms, the white really accents it. While I do see some maintenance staff periodically picking up around the gym, there are frequently dirty towels overflowing from the bins, or left behind on machines, empty soap dispensers, and tissue boxes, and a clear lack of deep cleaning, evidenced by the dust between machines, and accumulated grime in crevices on equipment.

Also on the Con column
- The hours at NYSC are more restricted, especially on weekends. They open later, and close earlier than every other gym in the area.
- The classes can also be a downside as when they monopolize the open exercise areas of the gym, which they tend to do during peak times.
- Upgraded memberships, that let you visit *almost any location can be had, but at close to $60 they’re nearly 3 times as much as the lower tier places for the same level of access.
- Other gyms let you bring a guest for free, or a very low fee. NYSC lets them come in just once for free, but not at all after that.
- The prices keep climbing. Up until 3 years ago I was paying $29 a month, which I thought was a reasonable bump for the upgraded experience. Since then it’s risen to $44 (+50%)!

As for the staff they are neither a positive or a negative. You won’t get that friendly neighborhood feeling here, with only half of the staff greeting people. I’m at the gym twice as often as I’m at my local Starbucks, but there they greet me every time, usually by name. Also, while I don’t usually have questions about my membership, they rarely have quick or complete answers, and seem mostly focused on selling memberships. That said this is a weakness of every gym I’ve ever been to so…

At the end of the day, how friendly the staff is, or how well it’s decorated are entirely secondary. You will reach your fitness goals regardless of the gym, if you are committed. You should go to the gym that is the most convenient, and has the equipment and classes to meet your needs. The best workout is always the one you will actually do. New York Sports Club has got enough of what I need to make it worthwhile, it’s the closest, and I’m fortunate enough to be able to pay their premium. Even so, the creeping prices, and lack of unique amenities make it feel more and more like I’m being taken advantage of.

In the final analysis, while I wouldn’t warn anyone to stay away from NYSC, I certainly wouldn’t recommend it, and if I had another convenient option I’d probably take it.

It’s been almost 30 minutes now and people are slowly leaving. This messes up people’s daily schedules. I gave this place so many chances and since the past 2 weeks now we’re all waiting outside in the cold for more than 30 minutes. If your staff can’t wake up on time like the rest of us then change the morning staff. Time to look for new gyms that open at 5am or even 24/7.
