Does anyone know if the gym is closed. I went on Oct.12 and there was a sign saying it was closed for Columbus Day, went today and it was dark.

I am writing this review because then perhaps I can get the attention of the manager. I have had a billing issue and have left multple messages and have yet to receive communication. I have since addressed my issues with corporate.
Do no join this gym. They do not care about the needs of their customers, nor do they communicate in a timely fashion. There are many other gyms in the area that could suit the same need.

Wide variety of machines and lots of space. Recently redone so feels very new. Wish they had better water fountains and towels like other NYSCs on the island.

The classes are really good and all the instructors made a great job. The lookers should have lock, but that's not a big problem.

They raised my membership fee $15/month this year without ever contacting me - no letter, no email. They try to be sneaky about this and take no responsibility for it when you call. This gym is absolutely not worth the price.

If I was just rating the staff I would give this place 5 stars. They're all friendly and welcoming people but the gym itself sucks. Ton of old equipment that's in desperate need for upgrades. There's not one machine in there that's from this decade I guarantee it. Usually find 1-2 newly broken machines a week, and they have a lot of equipment that rarely gets used. Some equipment gets used so much and they only have 1 of them (squat rack, row machine, Smith machine) so I think a redesign is necessary. Can't comment on the classes or the PT, haven't tried either.
Edit/update: post renovation
I'm glad all the equipment is brand new but it still doesn't feel like a new gym. There's a small section of the gym that still has old machines. These machines aren't even good old school machines, the technology is dated plus they are practically on top of each other. As for the brand new equipment, a lot of it feels like it's 5+years old. None of it is maintained as it should be. For example, many of the benches, incline, decline, and leg press machines wobble and feel loose. The screws need to be tightened. If I can do it by hand for a temporary fix, which takes two seconds, why can't the staff? Someone at the gym shouldΒ be doing this every night to make sure everything is working properly. It's unsafe to be bench pressing and feeling unstable and wobbling back and forth. For a brand new gym this shouldn't happen. Also, there's a lack of back machines. There's not one row machine/ high row/ low row machine available. There's not enough plates either. In a packed gym during rush hour, you have to go across the gym to get plates sometimes, and if there's some power lifters working out. Good luck finding 45s. Also, theres literally 1 set of barbell clips in the ENTIRE gym, that's aΒ joke, maybe 3 at most but never can find them EVERY SQUAT AND BENCH RACK SHOULD HAVE CLIPS. Lastly, as of today, there are 5 broken step machines out of 7, and a sign on the front desk about majority of treadmills being broken. It's a joke. The staff is very friendly but I don't know what any of them do. I get it, someone has to stay behind the desk to check people in, and some are just trainers, but c'mon.
Lastly, with about 5 mins left on my stair master workout, the entire row of machines lost power, shutdown and reset. Me and the lady next to me were like wtf! Literally everything is wrong with this place. Don't make the mistake like I did. Avoid this gym.

Really nice staff and trainers! They are always so helpful at the front desk. They have free training session coupons sometimes and thatβs a great advantage. Definitely an upgrade of equipment and flooring and spacing since they did renovations. WiFi is down lately, but itβs usually working perfectly, and least they offer WiFi. Cool cycling room and spacious back room that is open when classes arenβt in it. Great place to workout and take classes! Hopefully the sauna will be fixed soon!

Was a member here for almost a year. When I had to cancel my membership, I filled out the necessary paperwork, submitted it, and followed up with the manager at the time over the phone to ensure my cancellation for 45 days after my submission. I find out months later, that they never closed my account and had been charging me $30/month for 4 months after my membership should have been cancelled. I went in to speak with them, and conveniently, the old manager was no longer there and they had no paperwork existing from just a few months before. The new manager showed little interest, and essentially let off that she did not believe me...I would find another gym unless you want one that will dip its hands into your bank account whenever it is convenient for them.

Great club but not the best NYSC. They just got all new equipment so that's really nice. No towel service at this club. They need more water fountains in the club.

The customer service is awful, i cancel my Gym membership 2.5 months ago. Got charged the first month called, John the branch manager said i would get credit back.
I have a family member in ICU was busy with other things didn't really stress about it as i thought this matter was taking care of. I check my bank account today and realize i never got credit back the monthly fee moreover im getting charge for another month.
Attempt to call again and spoke to who seems to be the new branch manager who cant do anything for me and apparently has to charge me $10 to cancel my membership, I offer to come up and pay the $10 fee en cash. She precides to tell me i cant pay cash that i have to provide her with my credit card info.
How can i give my new credit card info to a company that keeps charging me for a membership i cancel 2.5 months ago.

Rupp off place. Big fraud! Terrible customer service! I only signed for one months to see if I like this jim. I didn't like. I try to cancel next month, but they said that I signed a contract for life. I nevet signef any contract. I only gave them autorization to use my credit card and signed on screen autorization, but not any contract. They used my signature and puted on some fake contract that I never discussed and never signed. On this fake contract said that Beside monthly fees I have to pay a annual fees $60 and canselation fees $99, and maile them written request and they only can cansel after 45 days if I die, or become disable or move away more then 25 miles. Such a ripp of and fraud...Stay away from this place!

I went in with a free day pass. Gym was nice enough although I got on exercise bike that wasn't working properly. I was told it was the only non-working one, but didn't feel like checking out all their bikes. Pool is really small.

It's a fine place to search around for 25 minutes for a 2.5 plate, watch an old man hurt himself on squat rack, or simply eye the roaches in the wall carpet towards the weight section.

Awful customer service. Managers clearly do not care about the members. Consistently removing features and benefits for members. Definitely not worth the cost of admission. Gym is often dirty, weights are unorganized, machines and mirrors are routinely broken for months on end before repair. My car was broken into outside the gym, and certainly was not the first. The landlord, however, refuses to put in lights or install security cameras, despite complaints. Stay far away.

As a member of only 6 short, excruciating months, my first recommendation to those looking for a friendly, convenient, and hygienic workout facility is to look somewhere else. New York Sports Club has caused me a plethora of unnecessary stress starting at the seemingly low price "Premium" membership which differs from the other memberships in the sense that it is at least 70 dollars cheaper and doesn't include a free (albeit ratty and paper thin) towel to mop up the sweat off of machines that are often out of order. Sure, you can use other facilities outside of this one with the "better" memberships, but what reason do you have to go back in the first place? The manager has been promising a full renovation of the facility in January for the half year I've been a member (and God knows how long before that) and it still hasn't gotten done! The roof leaks at the slightest bout of precipitation, the locker rooms are atrocious and dirty (apparently they're so cheap they used the old tiles from their last "renovation"), and apparently the men's bathrooms are so bad that membership consultants use the bathroom in the nursery just to avoid it - I know, I've seen it happen. Not to mention most of the members gather around to complain about all of this openly.
Which brings me to the nursery. Again, atrocious. Upon entry it seems a spacious room with a charming, enticing set up for young kids, of which I have two- and a third teen who has also witnessed this abomination of a facility. But even they realize there's something amiss. They alone have pointed out to me their disturbances with the lack of windows, the constant fluctuation of temperature (due to a broken thermostat, I'm guessing), and worst of all, terrifying toys. Half the electronic toys in that room - of which there are many - are broken and/or outdated, and when you point this out to the babysitters, they simply can't do anything about it. Even when you show them baby dolls that are missing clothes, limbs, and even eyes! - Which, by the way, startled my 4 year old daughter to the point of tears.
Suffice it to say, after many upset phone calls and angry visits, I have FINALLY cancelled my membership. With all due respect and love to each of the helpful staff, talented trainers, and fairly pleasant membership consultants, it would've caused me much less grief to my family and my wallet if I had just purchased a treadmill for my home.
P.S. My name is Linda, I'm not sure why my name isn't popping up correctly, this is my son's laptop.
