I’m extremely disappointed with how this gym — and specifically the manager, Aaron Ortiz — handled my membership and billing.

I was a member for over a year. Due to surgery, I needed to pause my membership. The previous manager failed to update my account correctly, and I was charged for several months while I was out. After multiple attempts to fix the issue, Aaron was finally able to issue a refund.

But the very next day, the gym charged me again — not just for the refunded amount, but also for the following month. I tried calling and emailing Aaron multiple times and received no response.

I told him that if the issue wasn’t resolved, I’d have to cancel. Instead of addressing the mistake, he went ahead and canceled my membership without my consent or signature — and listed “unhappy with billing” as the reason.

It’s upsetting that the solution was to cancel my membership rather than correct their error. This was handled in an extremely unprofessional and unethical manner. Be aware before signing up — customer service and accountability are clearly not a priority here.

I went there earlier today to get a gym membership as I just recently moved to NYC and I wanted to the Black membership so I can go to different gyms across the city. But of course, the Hispanic gentleman ignored me and wouldn’t even look at me and let two men skip ahead. So I said “excuse me you saw me waiting for you” and he gave me this angry look so I said I’ll take my money elsewhere. The funniest thing was I am a referral. Minorities looking down on other minorities will never make sense to me!

This is a solid Planet Fitness, and I’m giving it a 3 out of 5—not because it’s bad, but because it feels very middle of the road in terms of PF locations.

The layout here is actually really cool. There’s an upper level for cardio and a lower level that still has more cardio but is the main weightlifting section. If this weren’t a corporate gym, the setup would honestly be great for an old-school bodybuilding-style gym, which I personally love.

The equipment is mostly standard for Planet Fitness, but there are a few machines in the express section (the yellow zone) that stood out. They have a lying leg curl machine, which you don’t see at every PF, and another piece I’d never used before that I actually really liked—definitely a nice surprise and something I’d love to have at my PF home gym.

Also, a small but unique touch: they give you tokens for the massage chairs. I didn’t even know that was a thing.

Staff was friendly, people were wiping down equipment, and the bathrooms were clean. Nothing extraordinary, but no complaints there.

Now for the downside—there seemed to be no air conditioning or poor circulation in most of the gym, except in the Black Card room. Not a dealbreaker, in fact it kinda made the workout feel like I was at Metroflex. However for everyday I don’t think I could handle it, bring water and electrolytes because you will sweat.

Overall, I’m sticking with a 3. It’s a good gym, and I had a solid workout, but I’ve been to Planet Fitness locations that are cleaner, cooler (literally), and have slightly more updated pieces. So middle-of-the-road for me, not bad but in terms of PF locations—not the best either.

I’ve been a member of this Planet Fitness location for a while, but unfortunately, my experience has been steadily declining — particularly during peak hours.

The main issue is that many younger members occupy the workout equipment for long periods without actually using it effectively. They sit on machines scrolling through their phones, chatting, and barely engaging in real workouts. When politely asked how many sets they have left, the response is often vague: “a lot” or “I just started,” even though they’ve been sitting there for 10–15 minutes without moving. This makes it incredibly frustrating for others who are there to focus and train efficiently.

There seems to be a lack of gym etiquette and no real enforcement of equipment-sharing rules, especially during busy hours. It’s turning what should be a productive workout environment into a hangout spot.

Suggested Solution:
To improve the experience for serious gym-goers, I recommend introducing a tiered membership system based on access time:
• Prime Hours Membership ($60/month): Access during peak hours (e.g., 5–9 PM weekdays), with better crowd control and possibly staff monitoring to ensure machines are shared fairly.
• Off-Peak Membership ($30–40/month): Access during less crowded times, for those who are more flexible.
• Standard Membership ($10–25/month): Limited access and less priority on equipment use.

This would not only reduce overcrowding during peak times but also encourage members to use the gym more responsibly, especially if they are paying for prioritized access.

Planet Fitness is known for being welcoming to all, but that principle should also include respecting each other’s time and goals. A little structure could go a long way in restoring balance and improving the experience for everyone

I don't bad mouth business just because, hopefully someone see's this review and make it better. For 1, this a gym avoid at all cost but it's right next to my house so it's convenient. The machines are limited as well as space. Men hog the cable extensions using 2 machines at once. It's always hot, muggy and looks unkept. Lockers get broken into. I was robbed $129 even though I had a lock on my locker. Employees don't do rounds checking so it's easy to get rob. Looks like employees that work at planet fitness in LIC are behind the theft. I recommend you join blink fitness.

It is rare these days that I see people clean their equipment after using it. I think PF should penalize people who don’t clean their equipment after using it.

Many people also hog machines and equipment (especially the Smith machines— I’ve worked out here for two years and have gotten to use them maybe twice) to the point that I usually can’t finish my workouts without spending upwards of an hour here. Gym staff really needs to do more to enforce a positive community here— maybe have staff monitor customers and enforce rules about hogging equipment and not cleaning it?

I had to leave the gym because it was really hard to exercise there. People use multiple pieces of equipment at the same time, even during peak hours, and management does care. I love Planet fitness. I stopped by this location because I was in the area. I was quite surprised how clean the place was and how spacious it was. Typically the locker rooms are somewhat clean, have broken lockers and always need toilet paper, but the crew at this location is on point.

The company and the staff as always super unhelpful and the manager isn’t trained properly to do the job.
They are charging me a late fee because they couldn’t access my bank account which was 20 bucks even though I tried paying before it became a problem and I was told it was okay if I paid later. Fast forward the next day and I get a 20 dollar fee and was told that the manager would take care of it but wasn’t around till the next day. Weekend I go she left already. When I finally told her she just stared at me and asked me to fix my account number. Get this even though they had my bank card on file and still charged me my gym fee and late fee.
Makes no sense.
They could have taken out of my account through my card why then a late fee ?
On top of that I helped the manager translate getting two new memberships in Spanish and a cancellation.
Seems like they should be paying me to do the work.
She was to busy playing music on the phone and snapping her fingers with her employee. Really professional.
So the fact that I and blind in one eye and now have to find a way to get the money for my medication.
I also just escaped a domestic abuse situation and all this gym did is discriminate and take advantage of someone going through a tough time.
Just for 20 dollars.
Hats off too you guys for worst experience in my life.
Give your manager a raise for her lack of skills and compassion. Judgment free zone my butt!

This Planet Fitness has become my home gym and it’s time to update my review. The gym is mostly basement level with a dedicated cardio, weights, and stretching area. The clientele has become younger and LatinX since the pandemic with a good representation of both genders. Love the friendly staff and great location. My current issue with the gym is that groups will camp out for half an hour to an hour and monopolize the Smith machines socializing or using their phones for selfies and social media. I’m finding that it has become impossible to go for a quick workout or use all the machines I had intended. My other issue is that across all the PF’s in the city, the hand dryers in the men’s bathrooms are seriously the weakest, and they just spread the moisture around on my hands.

I have been to the Planet fitness in Washington Heights, Manhattan and the Planet Fitness in Brownsville, Brooklyn and this location was by FAR the newest, cleanest, most spacious, with the friendliest staff.

There was a lot of variety in machines, as well as duplicates so I didn't have to wait to use a machine. I wish all locations could be as nice, clean and new as this one. Even the treadmills at this location were the nicest I've ever used.

Whenever i have a question concerning this PF I always call and within just a few seconds I’m assisted with an employee mostly by this one named Paola and Ra they always answer my question as specifically as possibly compared to the other staff. This place is amazing, kept clean but at the same time has a strong smell of sweat. It’s a gym yes understandable but it’s still quite strong. Employees are second to none, I came in a day where there were only two employees on duty sometimes even one and they still keep the whole gym running mainly Poala and Ra. both exceptional employees, my brother comes here as well also saying the same things I have said in this review, and I agree. I really dislike this place very much. My relationship was membership of this location and I was on her guest pass few times. Some staffs were kind of rude to me little bit and refused to communicate with me through paper and pen due to my deafness. I started realizing that my deaf friends were right about this place being unfriendly and discrimination.

There’s one deaf guy who used to love to work out there for a year and he did mention that both regional manager and the manager did not take discrimination issue seriously and there were no solution or apologize in the order when he made first reports on that guy the personal trainer few times via e-mail last summer 2023. He did right thing to leave Planet Fitness, LIC as ADA advised him to find a new gym. I just learned that ADA has list of several gyms poor reputation history in discrimination. He was not only one who left but there are some other deaf members were unhappy with this place too.

We are glad that we left the place and then we listened to deaf community to ensure that we choose right gym that treat us as the equality and respectful. If you are disabled persons, we would not recommend you to sign up for this Planet Fitness location. We are very happy with Blink Fitness so far. We were feeling very heartfelt and welcome by deaf guys to join Blink Fitness. When we walked into Blink Fitness for first time, staff see me as deaf person, they just went ahead to grab pen and paper to communicate with us right away. It’s nice of them to bring deaf guy to us and helped us out. They showed us that all HDTVs show closed captioning. For even Blink Fitness got plenty of deaf members which is more than Planet Fitness in New York City. Blink Fitness is awesome!

I've been a member at this gym for a couple of years now and I can say 2 things for sure. You better bring your own water with you. The water fountains don't work about 90% of the time. Not sure if that is to force people to buy water at the gym, but it's pretty lousy to not be able to hydrate while working out. The other thing is, as many have mentioned, it is a fairly young crowd (teenagers) who sit on equipment and play with their phones instead of working out. There are weights and machines at the gym so I'll give it 2 stars.

* Ell staff es amable y amigable, te ayudan siempre cuando tienes alguna duda del gimnasio
* No bueno para entrenar cuando llega la temporada de pases gratis a estudiantes que llegan en grupo a socializar y JUGAR entre ellos mientras usan una misma máquina literalmente por horas.
* Si quieres hidratarte olvídate de usar cualquoera de llos 4 ispensadores de agua disponibles, ya que rara vez funcionan. Tengo 3 meses viniendo y nunca los he visto funcionar. La opción es comprar agua o gatorade en el mostrador o traer tu propia botella.

The bottom level of the gym is pretty small so it gets crowded at times and the water foundations doesn’t work and I’ve brought this up to the club manager who told me it would be fix next week, which never happen since it’s been two weeks and nothing change. Also you have to wash your hands in the freezing cold water. No hot water

I want to give Miss Paola at the reception one star, she is a person who does not respond well when asked for information, all the attention given was reluctant, bad face and terrible disposition to offer peace of mind to the client.

On the other hand, for the rest of the staff I give them 5 stars, they are friendly and you can tell they want to serve you. the gym is great

Great location, very clean and lots of equipment, not overly crowded, very helpful staff. My new favorite location!! PLUS, I upgraded to Black Card and used the massage chairs and tanning booth! WHY did I wait so long to upgrade!! The set up at this location is PERFECT too, privacy and cleanliness and serenity!!!!!

Yo no pongo candado a mi locker, alguien por equivocación me lo pusieron y hablé con la manager que estoy con el tiempo que corte el candado que ahí estaban mis documentos y le mostraba y solo supo decir que no, que no podía hacer eso 🤷🏻‍♀️ para que son manager ?

It's not a bad gym... It gets busy and that's just how it goes. But, I wish they'd fix their water fountains. It almost feels intentional as if they're trying to "encourage" us to buy water from them. The staff should also do a lot more to enforce gym etiquette. Too many times I have seen people hoarding weights , not re-racking the weight and leaving trash everywhere.

I'm a regular member at Planet Fitness

This is one of my favorite locations so far in New York city ( Great location! ) I like to use all the equipments which PF offers for customers . Also, I don't have to wait too long to take turns with others when it's packed

The fitness is clean, but the male bathroom is sometimes hygienic. I usually smell "BO" body odor or smell from the toilets and I need PF to improve the scent and cleanliness inside the male bathroom, please

The air conditioning is great temperature not too hot or cold. The lockers are plenty

The staffs are attentive if you need helps

They have bottled water at the register but the staff refused to sell me because their systems didn’t work for Credit Card, Debit Card, Apple Pay, or Venmo. It’s only $2 but they would rather let me dehydrate. Then I tried 3 water fountains both upstairs and downstairs but all of them are not working because of low water pressure. I guess people just dehydrate here and they don’t care.
