I can’t say enough good things about Premier Muay Thai. Coach Joel hosts a FANTASTIC class.

I am a beginner at Muay Thai, practicing consistently for the past couple of months. I’m always nervous going to classes, especially places where I’m new. As soon as I entered Premier, Coach Joel greeted me and welcomed me in. Everyone is very friendly as well.

The class itself is practical and challenging. You learn Muay Thai techniques and drills, with Coach Joel being attentive to all the students and giving professional feedback. You’ll also get in a good sweat with some cardio and general fitness training/core. I always leave class gassed out in all the best ways possible.

Most important however, is that I leave class feeling like I’m consistently getting better and better at Muay Thai. I’m not just there for the swear, I’m there to learn the sport of Muay Thai. Premier Muay Thai delivers on all fronts.

New York City as a whole, seems like it has an unlimited Rolodex of classes, trainers and coaches. You want to learn something new? NYC has a class for it— and probably a really good one at that. Premier Muay Thai is no different. The class structure, the content, the community, etc; it has it all. But what separates Premier Muay Thai from the rest, is Coach Joel Estevez. Muay Thai is the common factor, but we individually have different skillsets, areas of opportunity and coaching styles we respond best to. With that being said, Joel has a very unique ability of identifying student/client needs, meeting them where they are, and constructing the best possible method of coaching them up. All of this is reaffirmed by his impressive resume of hours upon hours of coaching and competing Muay Thai.

A select few of people are just meant to be teachers, coaches, educators— Joel Estevez is one of those few. In a city where you can find a coach or class for almost anything, you probably won’t find a coach that cares more than Joel does.

Joel is hands down one of the kindest and most honest people I've ever met. I first started training with him in 2016, and his approach to teaching is nothing short of phenomenal. He truly knows what he’s doing. I’ve had the privilege of watching him guide beginners like me, as well as coach champions to success. His ability to connect with both kids and adults is remarkable. Joel’s dedication and passion for Muay Thai shine through in everything he does, and I’m so excited to see him opening his own place. If you’re looking to learn Muay Thai, this is the place to be!

Thai boxing enthusiasts living in New York City should rejoice at the arrival of Premier Muay Thai. Kru Joel brings years of fight, coaching, and cornering experience to Astoria, Queens, and the results are not to be missed.

His training sessions are unique, fun, grueling, inspiring, challenging, and not for the faint of heart. As a coach, Joel brings extraordinary patience, engagement, cutting edge drilling, clinching, and sparring techniques and tactics, tough conditioning, compassion, and a very welcome sense of humor. You always see the trainers in Thailand laughing when they are holding pads, sparring, and running through a training session, and it's great to see Joel bring that same energy to New York City.

What sets Kru Joel apart from so many Muay Thai instructors in New York City is his ability to communicate the techniques and teaching material in a way that is easily understood the first time around. Coupled with his approach of breaking down combinations and other techniques into bite-sized nuggets, his students can be assured of retaining the topic of each night.

The icing on the cake? Kru Joel's pricing structure is one of the most reasonable I have seen in New York City. Stop by for a drop-in training session, and I guarantee you'll walk away a member.

If you’re looking for an exceptional Muay Thai coach and an all-around great person to train with, Coach Joel Estevez is your guy.

His passion for the art is evident in every session, and he has an incredible way of balancing technical instruction with motivation and encouragement.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced fighter, Joel creates an environment where you feel both challenged and supported.

His ability to break down complex techniques into simple, actionable steps is unmatched.

Beyond coaching ability, Joel emphasizes mindset and discipline, which is a game-changer for anyone serious about improving. But what truly sets him apart is his genuine care for his students. He’s invested in your growth—not just as a martial artist but as a person.

I highly recommend to anyone looking to train with one of the best in the game!

Coach Joel is an amazing coach, whether you are new or experienced he recognizes your skill level immediately and helps you better your technique. Will definitely be back on a regular routine, even though I travel from lower Manhattan that’s how good coach Joel is.

This is a new gym but Joel, the owner, has been competing and teaching for a very long time. He breaks down the class structure into a way that makes sense and is easy to digest. You’ll see him running around making corrections so he definitely provides attention to details when it comes to your technique. I probably will not be happy if he makes us jump rope one day, I hate jump roping and I specifically avoid gyms that require it 🤣

One of the best! Joel has been my coach for almost a decade and he continuously delivers amazing instruction. He does a great job at highlighting and drilling the fundamentals of Muay Thai, how they win fights, and how/when to apply techniques given the situation. He does all this while making the classes fun and engaging for people of all levels and experience!

Left NYC before Premier Muay Thai opened but will happily rate the owner Joel Estevez. Amazing coach!!!! Definitely my personal favorite out of all the great coaches I’ve experienced. If you come as a beginner, he will make you fall in love with Muay Thai. He will push you to your limits and will make you grow no matter what your goals are in the sport. His coaching style is the perfect combination of challenges, hard work, and fun time. I am sooooo bummed that I can no longer attend his classes.

Premier Muay Thai is hands down amazing—especially for beginners! From the moment you walk in, you feel welcomed and empowered. Coach Joel is truly incredible at what he does. He’s not just a skilled instructor; he’s also incredibly encouraging and makes everyone feel like they belong. Joel takes the time to get to know everyone in the class, offering individualized help and feedback on form, moves, or even just stopping by to say hi.

The class itself is a 10/10. It’s packed with different combos and techniques, allowing you to learn at your own pace without feeling overwhelmed. Joel’s teaching style is unmatched—he’s attentive, thorough, and genuinely passionate about what he does. He ensures everyone gets the support they need, whether it’s correcting form, explaining a move, or simply motivating you to keep going.

If you’re looking for a fun, challenging, and supportive place to learn Muay Thai, look no further. Premier Muay Thai is the real deal, and Coach Joel is a gem who makes every session a fantastic experience. Highly recommend!

Premier Muay Thai is a great place to get in authentic Muay Thai training. Joel lives up to his reputation as a coach and trainer, and he will work with you to ensure you have excellent technique while working punches, kicks, knees, and elbows. While this gym is new, I can see it quickly becoming a major name in the NYC Muay Thai scene. I had a great class and will definitely be coming again.

Great experience and great training. Joel is one of the best trainers around and does an amazing job of keeping the class fun and intense at the same time. Especially if you’re someone who isn’t as experienced in training that is such a plus to feel comfortable in the environment.

I started Muay Thai with the simple goal of losing weight, thinking it would only take 2-4 months and I’d be done. But Joel made me fall in love with the sport, and here I am almost three years later, with more passion for it than ever. Joel is an incredible coach who truly focuses on the details. Hard work and technique are the foundation of success in Muay Thai, and while Joel sharpens your skills, it’s his attention to detail that really sets him apart. He ensures you perfect every strike, movement, and defense. Stay disciplined, keep refining your craft, and trust the process and enjoy the journey!

The best in the game. Super excited that Joel finally opened up a gym and classes to the public. Premier Muay Thai classes are an essence of Joel's philosophies -- focused on hard work, no ego, no BS and an hour of pure no frills training. Excited to continue to attend regularly!
