Lot of amenities, weights and machines. But it gets very crowded at night. Also, having 3 Smith machines seems unnecessary. They should seriously consider getting a Pendulum squat machine to replace one of the Smith machines.

Guys I have been to over 20 Retro Fitness gyms all across the New Jersey state, Pennsylvania and New York City. Staten Island has a great gym, one in the lower Manhattan area right at the Financial District and Wall Street that's amazing, but this Retro at Forest Hills is by far The greatest gym I've ever been and I mean I'm always leaving bad reviews if I see something bad but this gym has great staff, clean, parking available, sauna and steam room in locker rooms, bathroom, showers, football field, green turf area, and even a cozy massage area to relax and watch TV. I'm even considering driving an hour daily to come to this gym since I'm from NJ and this is in Queens. Come here.

You have a loose cannon in your management team! He blamed me for him not responding to my emails. He insisted he responded but he didn't. As I showed him my phone as proof that I received no alerts or emails from the gym in my inbox or spam folder or text messages, he got mad. AND continued to blame me. I explained if you want customers, shouldn't you be trying to help me instead of blaming me. And then he challenged me to a fight. "COME BACK AND SAY THAT TO MY FACE" as I walked out. I heard him from the parking lot! Which means everyone in the gym did too. I certainly don't feel safe exercising there if the management can't control their anger, can't help, can't respond, blames the customers, lies, and challenges CUSTOMERS to a fight when they are rightfully upset.

I joined Retro due to its proximity to my workplace, and the Long Island City location has been excellent. However, I attempted to visit this particular location as it is conveniently located five minutes from my residence. The manager, Lisa, informed me that bringing my scooter inside constituted a fire hazard. I inquired if an exception could be made on this occasion, given my desire to exercise and my unawareness of the policy, which resulted in me not bringing a lock. My request was denied. My scooter is a compact, foldable stand-up model, and this was the first instance of a complaint. Even at the Empire State Building, where I previously held contracts, such a device was permitted if carried. While this may be an unpopular opinion, I prefer establishments that demonstrate a high level of customer consideration. I may consider returning when utilizing my motorcycle, as this location offers a garage. Nevertheless, I am profoundly disappointed by the lack of courtesy experienced.

I recently joined this Retro Fitness location and have mixed feelings about it. While there are definitely some positives, I’m not convinced the higher monthly cost (about $71 for the Ultimate membership) is justified compared to other Retro Fitness gyms.
Pros:
-Convenient parking lot.
-The Ultimate membership includes towel service — a nice touch.
-The main reason I joined was for the steam room and sauna, which are a great addition that not all locations offer.
-Solid variety of machines and free weights.
Cons:
-Cleanliness and maintenance need serious attention. The steam room and sauna both look like they could use a deep cleaning — possible mold, and body hair all over. The locker room has a shattered mirror that hasn’t been replaced, which feels unsafe.
-One of the bathroom sinks is taped off and broken, and none of the bathroom stalls have working locks.
-The showers are dirty, with missing door handles and shower flies on the walls.
-The music volume throughout the gym is excessive — even in the locker room and sauna where people are trying to relax.
-Some machines have broken adjustment knobs or parts.
-Advertises a First Respondent discount online. However, when I asked before signing up they said management discontinued that a long time ago and just hasn’t updated the site. I found that a bit unfair.
-The group class schedule is very limited, which is disappointing considering the Ultimate membership is supposed to include unlimited classes. Other locations have a much better class lineup for a lower price.
Ultimately, this gym has great potential — but at $71 a month, appearance, hygiene, and upkeep really matter. Right now, it feels like management is cutting corners on basic maintenance and cleanliness.
I’m hopeful these issues will be addressed soon because I’d really like to update this review in the next month or two with better news. Until then, I’d say this gym is average at best and not worth the premium compared to other Retro Fitness locations that offer similar amenities for much less.

The gym itself is fine but I went in person to cancel my membership and spoke to a young lady took about 5 mins. She said it was canceled, two months later I get charged a membership fee since it’s still active, the manager was helpful but refusing to give me a refund since I can’t provide proof from two months ago that I went in to cancel. Being penalized for a young staff members mistake is crazy. Please train your staff better

Great equipment & good front desk but the male sauna has a lot of mold in the floor and seat areas. It smells unpleasant and might be hazardous to breathe mold spores. A simple deep clean should fix it.

The highlight of this gym is without a doubt the front desk personnel — they’re always welcoming, friendly, and make every visit start on the right note. The facility itself is clean, spacious, and well-maintained, creating an environment that feels both motivating and comfortable. All of the workouts and equipment are great, offering everything you need whether you’re lifting, doing cardio, or just getting in a solid daily session. I recently took a few classes with Gustavo, and I can confidently say it was a fantastic experience! From the moment I stepped into the gym, he made me feel welcomed and motivated.
In each class, Gustavo, demonstrated impressive knowledge of fitness techniques and tailored the workouts to suit all fitness levels. I appreciated how he focused on proper form, ensuring I got the most out of each exercise while minimizing the risk of injury. The sessions were always dynamic and engaging, with a great mix of strength training, cardio, and flexibility work.
What really stood out was his ability to motivate and inspire. Gustavo was encouraging, pushing me to challenge myself while also celebrating my progress, no matter how small. I left each class feeling accomplished and excited to return

Signed a 3 MONTH contract with a personal trainer the personal trainer after about 6 sessions tells me their is no more funds to my account I speak with his manager “Keith” he tells me he’ll look into it (never replies back) I just let the 3 months pass thinking what ever they’ll just pass and nothing more of it. Come to check they’ve still been charging me for over 7 months AFTER the agreement date.
Horrible gym but, they have great machine availability everyday I went at least which at the time was everyday except Sunday.

I’ve been coming to this gym about 5-6x times a week for about a year and a half now. The gym has an abundance of space and is pretty well maintained by the cleaning staff. It’s a great gym for advanced athletes which is why I began training here. However in the time I’ve been here I noticed that the male staff are SEXIST and only accommodate men. There have been 2 occasions where my husband had to come in and speak to staff to resolve issues because when I would bring the issue up to staff it was disregarded. The recent incident was today actually at around 8:40 pm. I had misplaced my car keys which also had my airpod case attached. I understand that Retro fitness is not liable for missing items however, I was hoping a good samaritan would find the keys and return them as I’ve done numerous times myself at this very location. I asked the staff member if anyone returned any keys, he carelessly said no and didn’t even check the lost and found. I then used my tracker & it led me directly to the front desk stating that it was in a 5ft radius. My husband had to come in and speak to the staff member and then he finally checked the lost and found and guess what the keys were there. I was really upset as he completely disregarded me and only checked with my husband came in. I told him its ironic that my husband has to come in every time something goes wrong and suddenly they find the item. (The same situation occurred When he left his id here a few months ago). The staff member and me then went back and forth because I stated that he should have checked the lost and found when I asked in the first place instead of having me go on a goose chase checking the entire gym. He stated “Well i don’t know I started work at 8pm.” Its really unfortunate that he decided to not check the lost and found because he started work at 8pm. I really don’t know what that has anything to do with my missing keys. Its just sexism and carelessness. My husband shouldn’t have to keep coming in because the male staff are SEXIST. Its unfortunate that I pay ultimate membership fees just to get mistreated by staff.

This gym has the weirdest vibes ever. I promise you. The staff is so off and on with their attitude. A whole bunch of arrogance with the trainers who are sub par at best. Try push fitness or ufc. Yes they have A sauna but it’s broken and dirty most of the time and the steam room doesn’t work ever. Ok good luck.

I’ve asked the front desk a million times to please turn up the AC and clean/fumigate the bathrooms more thoroughly. In the summer it is sooo hot I could barely finish a workout. PLEASE TURN UP THE AC. Gyms should be nice and cool not warm.

I joined Retro in February to get back into a gym routine and do the usual cardio + some machines. The gym is well maintained for a high volume place. I signed up for an introductory training session with Rashawn and have been training with him for the last six months. He has in-depth fitness knowledge but is also well versed in physiology/wellness and incorporates it into a comprehensive program . I’ve had other PTs in the past that were one dimensional and just focused on the motions of movement. I’ve become stronger and toned from building a foundational core strength that has helped with my chronic back pain and significantly improved my posture. Each session is customized for my goals and I feel the difference every week.

The gym is okay. There’s always something wrong with the massages chair. They overwork their sweet closer person !! Leaving him to attend to 100 and 1 people all alone !! He is very good at his job has excellent customer service but This is very frustrating to see somebody have to accomplish so many task alone and still attend to customers with no help !! Disgusting do better !! They have an unnecessary amount of people in the morning/ afternoon but none at night !?!? Ridiculous with the prices there they ought give him a raise !!

There is no doubt the steam room and Sauna sells this place. Monthly dues are 3x other R.F. gyms...... but its justified. 95% of time, they keep this place clean. There is always staff, in the locker room or on the floor cleaning. This is genius to have staff that just cleans only. I give owner credit.... he maintains the place well. If not, I wouldve left years ago.
**My only dislike is, something needs to be done with all the ppl videotaping. Tripods in the middle of workout areas is not Okay. I dont care about being in a video, I just dont want to tip top around because your pod is blocking the pathway.

Honestly so far the staff has been pretty nice. The people who come to this gym are racist though. I was working out when I overheard a bunch of grown men 3 of them. A tall man with long hair glasses with tattoos he usually wears sleeveless tanks walks around all big was talking with two other guys who I thought seemed nice laughing at the fact that Donald Trump is deporting a lot of people. He said he feels like this is the right thing to do that immigrants just came to take all their money and their jobs. They all were laughing at this and talking about it loudly. This and the fact that there are way too many people in this gym who are racist even Hispanics themselves though the gym has no control of this I don’t even feel comfortable being surrounded by these hateful people and considering to switch gyms.

It was very disappointing having to leave this gym. Having been a VIP member for half a year, I was growing accustomed to and fond of this gym. However I knew I didn’t want to keep supporting an establishment who tries to profit off of their clients when unnecessary. The last day I went I tried charging my phone with my own phone charger, but I noticed all outlets are closed with a lock! So I head upfront to ask if I can leave my phone to charge at the front desk. I am told I can’t, so then I ask “why are the outlets locked then?”. Only to get the response “the owner decided to lock them because others were taking advantage, but you can buy this packaged battery for $10!!!”
How incredibly hypocritical! Paying approximately $70 a month and I am denied being able to charge my phone! And on top of those $70 you want an extra $10!
It’s absolutely disgusting the owner thought this was okay!

Hello. My name is Dajana Neziri, and I am very disappointed with Retro Fitness. I signed up there to go to the gym for the first time, and they told me that the first day must be with a trainer. That seemed appropriate for a beginner, and since I work with my husband until 5 PM, I scheduled my first training session with Keith.
I couldn’t attend the originally scheduled session because I was very sick, so I rescheduled for Monday, May 19, 2025, at 6:15 PM. At first, Keith asked me for my name. Knowing that my name is a bit difficult in English, I spelled it out as Dajana, not Diana. To my surprise, he hadn’t even registered me, even though I had spoken to him and he told me to come on Monday. I let that part go.
Then he told me not to spell out my name letter by letter, but five minutes later, he asked me to spell it out. That started to annoy me, but I still tried to let it slide. He began asking how much weight I wanted to lose, how much my husband wanted to lose, and so far, that was fine.
Then he told me I had to join their coaching program because I wouldn’t be able to handle the gym on my own. I explained that I suffer from anxiety and panic disorder and that I’m already paying a lot to heal from those conditions. I do guided meditation and go out in nature every weekend because it helps me. I told him I couldn’t afford to pay for coaching, but my husband has experience with the gym and helps me on the other days.
He replied with total ego: “Can’t you drop one of your activities and pay for coaching here?” I said no, because those activities are essential for my mental health. I also told him that I have a friend who reached her fitness goals without a coach, and my husband has also lost weight successfully. He said, “Are you going to listen to your friend’s and husband’s words?” I replied that my husband and I make decisions together and simply can’t afford it.
After that, my husband and I left that gym because Keith’s ego and terrible communication ruined everything. And believe me, I have never encountered such negativity in a person before. You are free to do as you please, but I swear to God, this is the worst gym ever — they only care about money.

I’ve been taking Pilates lessons with Diksha at Retro Fitness for the past 6 months, and it has been such a rewarding and beneficial experience. I currently strength train three times a week and wanted to incorporate Pilates into my routine to increase my flexibility and build functional strength.
Diksha is highly knowledgeable in many aspects of wellness, and her approach is both thoughtful and personalized. She begins each session by checking in on how I’m feeling and tailors the workout to address my needs, both physically and mentally. She ensures I maintain proper form and consistently provides helpful cues throughout the session. She has challenged me with exercises I never would’ve imagined I was capable of doing. Diksha sees her client’s potential before they even do. No matter how I feel walking into a session, I always walk out feeling so much better!
Since I’ve been training with Diksha, I’ve noticed a significant improvement in my strength, flexibility, and overall wellness, and I look forward to seeing how much more we can accomplish together!

This gym is well maintained and clean. My experience here is been amazing, especially when I met my personal trainer Jahrew. Coach Jahrew is amaaaazing very motivated and flexible with the sessions. He helped me push my body to the point I'd never push by myself. He gave me and my husband specific workouts to meet our goals. We learned a lot of different workouts and how each of them helped my muscles grow, I dont train with him anymore because of my busy schedule but its been an awesome year with him. I recommend 100% Jahrew for anybody who's looking to have a good workout to meet fitness goals. Jahrew even gave us meal plans, exercise routines and tips that I take with me when I can't go to the gym. Thanks retro fitness and most importantly Jahrew

I have been coming here for years and have seen multiple staff members come and go. I must admit that the new front desk staff are very nonchalant and unwelcoming compared to the previous, much friendlier and a lot more helpful employees that I’ve encountered over the years. The front desk has most certainly not improved, and they create too many issues when it comes to canceling memberships or making changes to your account. They need to address this because that IS NOT okay. I have friends and family members whom I have recommended this gym to, and they all have experienced abnormal issues in making changes to their accounts or canceling their membership. It’s true that they force you to waste your time going there in person, and only during specific hours when the manager is there, because apparently, the front desk can’t help you with anything over the phone, they refuse to even update your payment method !!! If you want to add a new card to your account or make a payment, I swear they will not let you unless you go in person, which is just INSANE, especially if you’re working and have places where you need to be. This is unacceptable and extremely unprofessional given their asking price. If people are paying almost $80 for a membership; customer service, friendly staff, and professional customer support should not be up for debate.
The 2 stars are because the gym is clean, spacious and there are many machines to choose from. And the bad review is for bad customer care.

When I first joined Retro Fitness, the gym was clean and had everything I needed, but I didn’t really know how to get the most out of my workouts. Once I started personal training with Coach Jahrew, everything changed. I worked with him for about a year, and he really helped me push myself way more than I ever would’ve on my own. He even trained me while I was pregnant, which was amazing because he knew exactly how to adjust my workouts to keep me safe and strong. I joined this location about 6 months ago and their personal training with the specific goal of gaining 35 lbs in a year (135-170 - muscle and some fat). I’m an ectomorph (very difficult to gain any mass). I picked Jahrew (Jah) as my personal trainer and man have I made progress! Jah guided me first with my meal planning around my native cuisine (Indian food) otherwise it won’t be sustainable. Then he helped with the training routine and form. Jah is very hands on and answered my calls on days I struggled with motivation, even on the weeks when we didn’t have a session. Posting some pictures of my progress. I’m at 163lbs… almost there. I’ve been a member of this gym for quite some time now, and I have to say the gym manager is absolutely fantastic. A great leader and manager is someone who not only excels in their role but also inspires and motivates their team to achieve their best. The gym manager here truly embodies what it means to be both a leader and a manager. They lead by example, always maintaining a positive attitude, staying hands-on, and fostering an environment of mutual respect. She has a unique ability to connect with every member of the team, ensuring everyone feels valued and heard. They are incredibly knowledgeable, always ready to offer advice on workouts, nutrition(I recommend getting a smoothie directly from the manager), or even new equipment.. The gym is always clean, well-maintained, and the atmosphere is motivating thanks to the manager’s leadership. They’ve fostered a positive, inclusive environment where members of all fitness levels feel comfortable. Overall, the gym manager goes above and beyond in ensuring every member has a great experience, and it’s clear they genuinely care about the community they’ve built. I highly recommend this gym, not only for its top-notch equipment and facilities but also for the exceptional management!

Giving 5 stars specifically for my personal trainer Jahrew who not only motivated me to push myself beyond what I thought I was capable, but became a good friend in the process. I was a giant baby when it came to working out, but Jahrew always encouraged me to keep trying because he knew I what I was capable of. In the 2 years I trained with him, I saw more gains physically and mentally than ever before- he even helped me come up with a meal plan to support my goals which was hard enough considering I don’t eat meat! Moving away and losing Jahrew as a trainer was so incredibly upsetting, but he gave me so many tips and workouts to take with me so I wouldn’t be left on my own. Couldn’t recommend him enough!

Last year I decided to start my fitness journey. I went through the personal training program at retro and was assigned to Coach Jahrew. He was awesome for the year long program I had him. He always knew when it was the right time to push me to limits that I could never push by myself. He was very informative on the different workouts and weekly schedule I should follow to build my best self. I joined Retro Fitness in January of 2024, about 2 months into working on cutting my weight from a high of over 260 pounds; in February I started working with Coach Jahrew as my trainer, because, quite frankly, I had no idea what I was doing in the gym - what weights to lift or when or how.
He helped me work around a persistent injury, and maintain a fair amount of muscle as I’ve lost nearly 100 pounds over the last year and a half. Can’t recommend him or this gym enough.

I had the chance to be a personal training member at Retro Fitness for about a year, and working with Coach Jahrew was honestly I can speak highly about him. He really pushed me to my limits but also helped me discover my own strength. With his guidance, I learned about different workouts and how they can benefit.

Retro Fitness in Glendale is a great gym for people of all fitness levels. The gym is large and well-equipped, with a wide variety of cardio and weight-lifting machines. There are also two turfs, one for all members and one for VIP members.
I like that Retro Fitness offers a variety of amenities, such as a drink and snack bar, chair massage, quick tanning, and a sauna. The towel service is also a nice touch.
The only downside to Retro Fitness is that it can be crowded at times. However, this is to be expected at a popular gym. Overall, I would recommend Retro Fitness to anyone looking for a great gym in Glendale.

I have been a top-level member at Retro Fitness for a while, attracted by the perks, especially the ability to bring a plus one. The process requires leaving a driver's license as collateral, which seemed reasonable at first. However, my recent experience has drastically changed my opinion.
Upon my last visit with a friend, we adhered to the usual procedure. But, upon leaving, we faced an alarming issue – my friend's driver's license was lost by the staff. Despite their attempts to locate it, the license was nowhere to be found. This not only caused significant inconvenience but also raised concerns about how they handle such sensitive personal items.
I am extremely disappointed with this lapse in responsibility and the lack of a satisfactory resolution from the gym's management. This experience has overshadowed the benefits of the membership, making me reconsider my patronage. I hope Retro Fitness takes immediate steps to improve their handling of personal items and customer service to prevent such incidents in the future.
second edit: I spoke to management, and they were able to reimburse me for the cost of the lost driver's license and give me one month free of membership. They also did not resist when I canceled my membership.

Como es posible que cuando se trata de cobrarte según lo de el mantenimiento del GYM te lo cobran y punto y hay una máquina para trabajar pierna ya lleva más de medio año fuera de servício y la máquina que se llama smith para múltiples usos ya más de un mes fuera de servicio como puede ser posible entras al GYM y un olor muy desagradable y ya van dos veces que me toca regresarme a mi casa por estar esperando a que habrán 40 minutos esperando y no abrieron.. muchas máquinas con los cojines dañados..! Frustrating Cancellation Process and Poor Customer Service
I had a very disappointing experience with this gym. Canceling a membership is made unnecessarily difficult, as it can only be done through the manager, who is available only on weekdays. This is highly inconvenient for anyone with a regular work schedule.
To make matters worse, I tried reaching out via email multiple times, but never received a response. The lack of communication and transparency in their cancellation process feels like a deliberate attempt to keep charging customers.
A gym should not make it this hard to cancel a plan. I do not recommend this place unless you’re prepared for a frustrating experience if you ever need to cancel.

The gym is clean, very well maintained, and managed phenomenally. Usually gyms can be so intimidating, especially a unisex environment, but Retro Fitness on Union Turnpike in Forest Hills is a safe and comfortable environment. No shenanigans whatsoever. The staff ensures all members are respectful and does their own thing.
The staff are so friendly, knowledgeable and accessible to answer any and all questions about fitness and nutrition. But above and beyond is their caring and empathy to personal situations that affects my nutrition and fitness. The staff's advice, recommendations, have been incredibly helpful to my needs.
A membership at Retro Fitness on Union Turnpike, Forest Hills has been the best decision I ever made.

This is my second review, and as someone who rarely gives 1-star reviews, it pains me to write this. I understand and appreciate how much effort it takes to run a gym—it’s not an easy task. However, the state of the sauna, steam room, and bathrooms is absolutely unacceptable. The smell is unbearable, and it’s clear that cleanliness is not being prioritized. I even brought this issue to the attention of management, but despite my complaints, nothing has improved. It’s extremely disappointing and feels like customer feedback is being ignored. I am disappointed in a recent visit to the gym, of which I have been a member for a long time. I came with a guest, but I was faced with a new requirement — I need an ID to log in. Unfortunately, my guest did not have it with him. The manager at the counter did not offer any solution and just sent us on our way, although I expected at least minimal help. Love this gym. One of my favorites so far. Once you’ve gone from Planet Fitness to this, your life will change. I have brought many friends to this one specifically and they all had a great time! The gym is great, except that when you sign up for a contract with a trainer they lie to you, they tell you that the payments are monthly and when you see the credit card they charge you weekly, and they tell you that the contract cannot be cancelled. Since I can't get a hold of anyone on phone or in person, I'm hoping they'll see this review and contact me. Since I see someone is replying to reviews quickly, maybe now they'll have time to call me. I have been trying to cancel my membership for MONTHS. I call ahead to check when the manager will be there, because you can only cancel in person with the manager. When someone finally answers- I go during those said times, no manager and told no I can't cancel without the manager. I went again on Friday when the manager herself told me she'd be there, but of course "she called out sick today". I was told don't worry, the front desk will let manager know I was there and I'll receive a cancelation email on Monday when she returns to work. It's now Thursday and no cancelation and I've called over and over and over to speak to manager, no one answers the phone. You've been charging me $71 a month for this gym that I haven't used because I practically live out of state and when I'm here I have to try to track down a manager and waste my time going to the location for no reason. DO NOT sign a contract unless you know it will take you most likely a few months to actually cancel. I have literally called your location ELEVEN times today and still have not had anyone answer even once!

If you want a lounge instead of a gym where people are permitted to sit on machines playing with phones for as long as they desire without being questioned, this is the gym for you.
I was told today by a guy working the front that someone complained about me asking someone if they were using a machine or just sitting with their phone. The worker went on to tell me that people are allowed to sit for TEN MINUTES or LONGER on machines looking at their phones without being questioned. Imagine a gym having a policy like this!

Once every few weeks it may be too crowded and you'd have to wait for your machine, but overall people are generous when they know you're waiting. Mos times though there isn't much of a wait. I had been with Retro Fitness for over 10 years. I had just moved to a different part of Queens and figured I would try this location out due to is being closer to me than the one on Otto Road in Glendale, NY. When I signed up I was told I had a week pass to give it a go. Great. I came back the 2nd time, on a dead Sunday, and was told that the pass was not meant to be 7 days and even though I was TOLD it was a week pass and was ever TOLD and even signed a form that stated it was for 7 DAYS that was not sufficient and I would not be aloud to workout. After explaining to him that I took time out of my day to come to the gym and I had been a member of Retro Fitness, FOR 10 YEARS, I figured a little courtesy would be extended. NOPE. He stated he needs $17 for the day pass. When he said this I was kind of shocked and asked if he could give a one time courtesy due to being a member at Retro Fitness on Otto since the DAY IT OPENED. NOPE. He wanted $17 for one session. No problem, you made the decision to leave Retro Fitness for good VERY EASY for me and I left immediately. If this is how a member of the gym is treated after being a loyal member for OVER A DECADE I will more than happy to give my business elsewhere and reach out to the Better Business Bureau. I will NEVER step foot inside of a Retro Fitness again. Here are some cons I saw during my 1 day visit.
- Most machines I encountered were dirty/dusty/sweat stained
- Many machines seem to be rusted and have moisture between them (they stick together)
- Not many lower body machines as I would expect (I think I saw 1 hack squat machine in the whole gym)
- Weights all over the place and sloppy
- People taking videos all over the place of themselves with tripod set up.
- No one puts the dumbbells back to their correct place and are left randomly thruout the gym.
- Guys taking pictures all in the locker room while people are getting dressed
- Nasty Smelling/Dirty Locker Room
No response is necessary from the staff as your actions have spoken loud enough. I will tell everyone that asks about Retro Fitness about this experience. I've been working out and going to gyms all over the country for over 20 years and have never seen such a lack of courtesy from ANY gym; let alone one I was a part of over 10 years. I am absolutely disgusted about this experience. STAY AWAY. You've been warned.

Just walked into the this gym to try it out as a guest with my partner but did not have my ID on me. I requested the manager and regional manager- Regina, if they can make one time exception. She stated that because corporate is coming down today, they cannot make any exception and that I can sign up for a membership instead without an ID as it’s only $35. I told my partner that we can go try push fitness instead and Regina encouraged us to go to push fitness and sign up for a membership with them instead. My partner will be cancelling his membership. Easily the most crowded gym I've experienced and I've yet to see the 5-7 PM crowd. Even much later at night, you'll be hard pressed to find any room to work out here with easily 50 people competing for space in the freeweights section alone. The saunas and bathrooms are also in desperate need of better ventilation and humidity control.
Pros: Decent selection of equipment.
Update: This issue has only gotten worse during Summer 2023, to the point where I've had to wait in line ~30 minutes between exercises for a particular machine. Please heed my advice and take your business elsewhere; this gym is full up beyond imagining.
Final Update: Eventually got sick of the gym and cancelled my membership. Giving half a star back for the easiness of cancellation. Everyone else complaining in these reviews needs to learn how to read their contracts. Cancellation procedure is clearly laid out.

Horrible gym. At least 2 machines are always out of service due to upkeep and maintenance. To worsen matter those machine stay in disrepair for an average of 3 weeks. The owner has the nerve to charge a yearly maintenance fee, that would make sense if he MAINTAINED the place.
Furthermore, horrible layout in regards to machine placement. There’s several tiles in the roof in disrepair as well that pose a safety hazard.

I wish if I could give 0 star, if you respect yourself avoid this place, employees rude af, managers also on their side even if one of the employees isn’t right, they will cancel your membership by signing on behalf of you faking signatures… I promise they will be sorry for that!!!

I have around 5 years training and I moved to queens and start training on this gym and it has good equipment I can’t lie about it, but about customer service is the worst place to go cause the workers don’t care if you pay subscription or not. I don’t recommend you to visit this place I canceled my membership on retro fitness just cause of this place.

the Gym classes space upstairs has improve. (I hope this upcoming winter we would have good heaters) the selfie space in the woman bathroom it's so nice. I very like we got a new light gray towels. Retrofittnes FH Union Tpke has everything that I like beginning by the gym classes at evening, then hydromassage, steam, showers, everything clean, and in good conditions. The perfect place to have 'my time'. El espacio para las clases en el segundo piso a mejorado mucho(Espero que este invierno que viene tengamos buenos calentadores). La decoracion para tomarse fotos en el baño de mujeres esta muy chevere. Me gusta mucho las nuevas toallas de color gris muy buena elección. Retrofittnes FH Union Tpke tiene todo lo que a mi me gusta empezando por las clases de la tarde, seguido el hidromasaje, sauna, las duchas, todo limpio y en buenas condiciones. Es el lugar perfecto para dedicar tiempo para mí.

There’s was a employee at this gym talking about he was going to spit in my protein shake as a joke and I went to talk to the manager and she told me she was gonna cut his hours down but I still see him working there and I feel like she never respect my complaint

New Member... made it in to workout during opening hours, mid-day and evening... so far I'm digging the people vibe. Everyone is getting work done and keeping it moving, all business. As far as the equipment... the gym has the mom and pop feel. Plenty of equipment with a variety of options just in case people are using the machine you normally use. So far no complaints.... Bathroom and lockers are clean. Staff stays on top of it. I haven't gotten around to ask about classes or other amenities. I'll update when I do

The gym is nice, but 3 apparatuses have been out of service for weeks to months now. This location is called "Elite," but it's not acting like it. When ppl are paying MONEY for a gym, they expect broken equipment to be fixed on their next visit, not months later. That highly unacceptable and not professional at all. This is what makes ppl go to other gyms and leave Retro Fitness! Such a disappointment.

Quite often the person that's working out stays on the machine looking at their phones for sometimes more then half an hour and there is no rule set up for that.
Not enough sanitizer bottles just 3 and 2 empty.
Most of the small lockers are broken.
Towels are stained or unraveling.
The staff are really great 🧡unfortunately for them they are sometimes understaffed.

Regret joining…. Being forced , harassed by phone and text that I had to continue personal training with someone else because the one I chose willingly was not working there anymore, not fair not right if any other trainer did fit the criteria and advancements for me. Once I tried reaching out by email no one ever is available to respond back it is like hunting then down, but yet they want to harass and hunt you down for payments. Only good thing is it is clean.

The gym has the worst equipment, not only are the machines all cheaply made, half of them are always broken. It takes months for the gym to fix a broken machine, expect half the treadmills to be broken as well. Just today the gym opens at 7am I was here 7:30am and the entire gym is closed, people are waiting outside the door confused why is the gym closed. I waited for 45 minutes and no one still showed up to open the gym.

I was given the run around when I tried canceling my membership. I was told only a manager could help with cancellation, who was not available. Took 4 attempts. On my last attempt, they told me that the manager wasn't there onsite. Not believing the person I spoke to, I called back again after hanging up. Lo and behold the manager picked up.
I didn't appreciate the deception.

I only have the mornings when the gym opens to do my workout, but today they didn’t open at 5am. I waited till 5:20 and it still wasn’t open. Very disappointing when a ton of people expect the gym to be open at 5am, get up extra early to get ready and drive over, only to find out that the staff doesn’t care.
