I can’t say enough good things about Sound Movement—and especially Maria. After years of recurring back injuries from weightlifting, and trying everything from personal trainers to PT specialists, I had all but given up on strength training. Then I found Maria. In just a couple of sessions, she helped me understand what was really going on in my body and how to make the right adjustments. Three months later, I’m back in the gym lifting injury-free. Her knowledge, precision, and care have truly changed the game for me. Highly recommend.

I resisted going to Sound Movement despite recommendations from many dear friends because I was intimidated by Pilates (it seems so hard core and I am not!). But I finally agreed, and I am SO glad that I did! I had a serious diastasis recti following my 3rd pregnancy, and just 3 months of weekly Group Reformer sessions at Sound Movement has done more to repair this injury than 12 months of physical therapy. I feel more comfortable in my (imperfect) body and am excited to go to class. The staff are welcoming regardless of your skill level, body shape, etc. - they truly meet you where you are and create a fun, comfortable, energetic environment. They ask about injuries and care about ensuring that you are doing the movements safely and optimally - they offer gentle, individualized, helpful tips. All the instructors I have had are amazing - Carson stands out in particular. Her class is always engaging and goes by quickly; she varies it every time, and is incredibly encouraging and positive. I feel better every time I go. I love Sound Movement and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to move their body more!

Despite the glowing reviews, my experience at this studio has been rather disappointing. Instructors I interacted with lack the knowledge and precision that define true Pilates — classes feel generic/chaotic/dumbed down, with little focus on form or technique. The only instructor who stood out was John; he seemed truly competent and engaged. Unfortunately, the overall standard just doesn’t live up to the studio’s reputation. Mediocre at best.

I love Sound Movement. The small class sizes allow for one on one attention so teachers are really able to make sure your form is correct. Each teachers style is unique which makes for a variety of options. I look forward to going each week and I feel so great after every class.

I wish I lived in New York so I could take advantage of classes all year round! Whenever I’m in town, though, I plan my trip around classes and private sessions. Walking out of the studio, I always feel lighter and blissful, even though the day after a Carson class, my abs are sore!

I've been taking Carson's mat classes for about 2 years now and it's the best! These muscle-toning classes have been invaluable in strengthening my core, back, and hips. I've been going to yoga several times a week but Carson's Pilates mat class has been the key to rebuilding up my strength and vitality. Thanks to Carson, the discomfort I had after several ACL surgeries and torn gluteal tendons is a thing of the past. No matter your age or ability, this class is a win win for everyone. Carson's teaching staff is excellent--top of the line professionals. Next step--getting into reformer!

I have been going to Sound Movement twice a week for the past 4 months. I had never taken a class like this before so I did 2 private lessons to learn the movements and the machine. I was hooked. I feel stronger, leaner and I think I am standing straighter too. I love the small class size and the individual attention you get. Carson’s classes are habit forming!
I’ve been going to Sound Movement classes for a year and a half and I love it. I was inching toward 50 and am not very active and knew I needed to find something that challenged me but also I enjoyed enough to keep going to. I’ve taken pilates in the past but Carson’s classes are on a different level. She has the ability to describe how to visualize the goal of each movement in a way that clicks and makes me get the most out of each class. I also love that the classes are full of people that are all age ranges & experience levels (& shapes & sizes). Try it, you won’t regret it.

Never did Pilates before this spring. Carson told me I should try it. I find it beneficial and helpful. Given my lack of good posture and lower back issues it has been useful for me to work with Rebecca. Rebecca has been awesome to work with. I have a long history of significant back problems and a friend recommended Gyrotonics to manage my difficulties. I’ve never enjoyed any exercise other than walking. Sound Movement and its extraordinarily professional and talented teachers changed my relationship to my body. One on one Pilates and especially Gyro have enabled me to manage the pain from my genetically determined issues. Each trainer has a deep understanding of the musculoskeletal structure. Coupled with their empathy and abilities to tailor exercise to me I’ve been able to manage my physical limitations in a way I had not imagined possible.
