The YMCA has three primary areas of focus: Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. Every program or class we offer, every initiative we launch, and each fundraiser we organize is intended to make a positive impact in one or more of these critical areas. Simply put, the YMCA helps make this region a better place to live and we hope you will join us in our effort.
We encourage you to utilize the web site to dig even deeper into our YMCA by exploring programs, services and special events available at each of our locations.
Please stop by any of our locations to experience the Y for yourself. We look forward to meeting you!

Edit: updated to 5 stars as they got new equipment in!
Really great staff, the front desk are so kind and remember your face. Very helpful for any questions you have. Great staff for lessons, Wayne is a great personal trainer—my grandparents love working with him. Only reason this YMCA doesn’t get 5 stars is their lack of new equipment, still are waiting for some pads that are ripped on some equipment to be fixed.

Good if you are looking for the basics. Has a pool, gym, and weights, plus a boxing ring. They don’t have many basketballs so bring your own. I’d recommend this location if you commute to NYC or Westchester and want to stop for a quick workout.

It is great place to motivate many people to do workouts. I wish they have little more space available after adding/replacing some old equipments.
One small suggestion: if they can maintain the pool water as heated it would be great. Pool area is warm enough but just not water.

I can bring my daughter with me when I have Group exercises. Which is so GREAT!All the staffs are nice over there . And really helpful.
Just one really bothers me. I usually go there once a week because we are not live close by. The last time we went there is two weeks ago,and I love the class. So finally I were back on 2/6 for
7:00PM class. After 7:05 still no see the teacher , so I went downstairs to check out. I wee told the teacher said her daughter is sick and no coming. As a mother, I understand that situation. So I decided come Friday instead. So I show up 2/7 for 6:00PM class. The teacher no show up again . I am really upset about this.
I know it is hard to let all the members know class is cancelled. But at least can put a notice on website front page which class is cancelled. So people no need drive to there .

If I could give zero stars I would. These people have AUDACITY. My daughter (2 years old) was seriously injured here, due to their parking lot having crater sized holes in the concrete. Walking out of the gym, I fell, she fell, and unfortunately broke her femur. I was going to pursue legal action but then after praying on it decided not to. They caught wind that I was considering a lawsuit and without any response to the incident, they have BANNED my entire family from attending ALL YMCA locations. They handled this in the poorest possible way. All I can think is...why DIDN'T I sue them?! If I knew I was going to get banned anyway. The most unprofessional and CRUEL response they could possibly have. My poor daughter was in a cast for 4 months and not even an APOLOGY from these people! I'm sick to my stomach. Not to mention, this place is gross, so just don't even bother.

We have been members for two years now. It’s been an excellent experience. From the swimming to the gymnastics to the childcare. We love it here. We absolutely value the “kids night out” which is a welcome break for us parents.
Super affordable and a great value.

The YMCA is nice, but the staff is awful. I’ve been going to this YMCA for around 2 years, and have been a college student the whole time. I’ve had multiple occasions where I have either asked them to freeze my membership, or ask to just pay for 1 month, and been charged for an extra month, or in some cases even two, just because of the workers negligence. Every time I’ve called and asked for it to be refunded, I’ve been denied. Really nice gym, but the staff needs serious work.

I visited this gym yesterday and used the pool. There was a male staff member in the changing area and offered no excuse or explanation or even apology at the time or afterwards when I spoke to him. He was there at that moment without notice or warning to the other naked people who expect to have their privacy honored. I made my way to the sauna and met a woman who said she was hiding out in there until he left.
Make sure you wrap towels around your young children and yourselves in this Y’s changing room as your privacy is obviously not a gaurantee or even a consideration it would appear.

Really disappointed with the customer service at this Y, particularly with Maureen at the front desk.
I originally was being helped by a really kind young woman, I was inquiring about cancelling my membership because I’m moving. She told me I will still be charged for next month, but she said she’d ask a supervisor if we can make an exception. I wasn’t aware of that policy because when I was filling out my application form, an employee filled out the page where this policy was stated — however I did sign the form, so I understand why the policy is being enforced. I’ve worked in customer service for many years, it is not the employee’s fault and I would never act disrespectfully to an employee, as I said to this woman, it is not her fault. It’s unfortunate that an exception couldn’t be made given the circumstance, but that’s not the problem.
The problem arose when Maureen got involved in the situation. She behaved with incredible hostility and disrespect. I did not create a scene or become rude, as the other employees (and guests nearby? Not a good look) can attest. It was only Maureen who was behaving with immaturity.
For this reason I wouldn’t recommend coming to this YMCA. if you have any issue with your membership you will be met with hostility.

Great for families! Helped me get back in shape because I was able to bring my son along sometimes. Machines are not outdated, which is a plus. Would have gotten an extra star if they had expanded hours on the weekend. Love that they have a huge pool. I had my sons birthday party here and everyone loved it.

I was in the Bouje class to be exact and an aggressive male approached me stating why am I next to him. Meanwhile, I had reported his aggressions towards me prior. Nothing wa addressed. YMCA never followed up or took action regarding my concerns. As a result , he came up to me in subsequent class with the same behavior as exhibited prior. yelling and screaming in a threatening way. No one was there to diffuse the situation. I felt very unsafe and had to tell the man if you don’t stop threatening, I will call my husband. It was a traumatic experience. I feared for my safety . Eventually, The manager , Michelle came up and without asking what happened , .asked me to leave instead of this aggressive male who by this time was cursing and coming up to me in a threatening way. Michelle observed his behavior and allowed him to remain. I was in disbelief as to what I was witnessing . I asked why she did this and she proceeded to tell me to leave the gym . Needless to say I was traumatized embarrassed and baffled. I tried to explain, but she said”I don’t want to hear what you have to say.” I am a woman of African descent, this felt racially discriminatory. I felt unsafe and they allowed this man to remain in gym and escorted me out. I called the cops and made a report in regards to the males behavior, but he remained in gym after threatening me. This is a disgraceful facility and racism is still alive and well. I did not ever dream that this could happen to me in the YMCa. I reached out to the CEO Ross Vercelli several times , in an attempt to get to allow him to know what occurred. I left several messages he has not responded I spoke with a manager , Ellen and complained about her employee’s behavior, Michelle and they took her word over mine. They lied and stated I was the aggressor I was in disbelief. A male approached me and I’m the aggressor. How can that make sense. He was clearly retaliating because of the prior complaint I made. Michelle was extremely unprofessional in way she handled this and it was crystal clear she was bias. They never addressed the bias that took place. Stay away from this place . They say they are family friendly ,but this is quite the contrary. My membership was taken away with no explanation and quite frankly , I would be afraid to attend this gym again. I am emotionally distraught after my experience at this gym. All of my rights were violated.

today was my second time in this place. in swimming class for my toddler. no one told me that the women's bathroom couldn't change my son. then a lady who cleans this area began to insult me, very upset and saying inappropriate things and arrogating because my son was crying. All the time I took to change myself and my son's clothes, this lady did not stop saying things to me. until I couldn't take it anymore and I had to answer her. very bad service because if she tells me that the rules are not to change children in the women's area. I would have understood. and this lady followed me out of the bathroom to make sure I didn't throw the wet diaper in her trash can.

What a great staff you have for swimming lessons. I started taking swimming lesson probably 6 month ago. I was on level 1 now I grade myself to level 6. I still have a lot of improvement to do however, when I looked back on how horrible I was for lack of training it amaze me. I learned something different from all the swimming instructors that I had. There's no one particular I would say is better than the other instructors however Dillion helped me a lot with my improvement. I did not understand the YMCA system how it works or I should say the schedule, there are a lots of different time schedule for open swim or family swim. Learning something new in a class is one thing put it to practice on your personal time is extremely important. No company is perfect I'm sure they have the flaw and this is a public place there are a lots of different people with different personalities who goes there I rate the Monroe YMCA location with a 5 star.

Staff is rude. Front desk lady has a terrible attitude. Told her I forgot my barcode pass and she sighed super loud and started going on a rant, only my 3rd time going and treating me like trash. Guy who runs volleyball is super rude, acts like he owns the place constantly yelling at the members trying to play. Even the members are entitled. No one says excuse me or sorry. Only good thing is the equipment.

The YMCA monroe isn’t family friendly. They make the parents stand outside of the pool area instead of having them comfortably sit inside to catch the views of their children making advancements.
They couldn’t provide an actual policy when asked for one and stated they have one but can’t find it at the moment. They have no policy written anywhere and I’m supposing now they will make one up due to this situation. I told the supervisor my legs hurt bc I do long 12 hour shifts at work and I was feeling slightly dizzy and they didn’t care and stated it’s our policy and you can’t sit in the pool area. Disregarding my state of physical distress.
However if your child has private lessons you can sit inside with your child.
I’m a registered nurse and I refuse to stand an entire 45 mins while having to watch my child during her swim class. I should be able to sit comfortably where there is ample amount of space to do so inside the gymnasium. I won’t be having my child attend this place moving forward and you can make your own judgment.
Parents should be treated with care due to the fact we find these places to be successful.
What hurt me most as a nurse is that they had no compassion for me not feeling well and they were only concerned with removing me from the area because of a fake policy that they said they have in place but can’t produce.

They are very disorganized. Today my kids had their first swimming class. My sister who also has a kid thats supposed to attend swimming classes today received a call saying her daughter's class is cancelled. Now I have 2 kids with different swimming times today. No one called me to tell me class was canceled. I called the y 3 times because no one answered the phones the other 2 times I called. I spoke to someone name Regina who stated that the classes for both my kids where still on. I go to the y. Get my toddler undressed and go to the pool only to be told by the lifeguard my toddler's class was cancelled. Go to the front desk and they tell me it's cancelled and my poor toddler decides to throw a tantrum while I'm driving because he can't go into the pool. I then have to go home drop off my toddler to go back to the Y and take my other son because I'm not waiting tere for an hour for the next class to start.

I just joined last Fall and my daughter and her family joined last week. I joined for the pool and would like to take my grandson in the pool. He is 2 years and has regular nap and lunch times. There is no open swim time that I can take him to.
Now my suggestion is to allow some swim time in the morning. I have taken the aquacize class at different times and there are very few people in the class. So most of the pool is unused.
Why can I not bring my grandson then and use the side pool? Aquacise and open swim for the young children would work!

I joined end of November for the pool (4 lanes). FYI the deep end is a small area. Depending on when you go for lap swim usually a lane to yourself or share, haven't experienced "circle" swim yet. Monday & Wednesday night lap swim only 2 lanes open, can be crowded. I can't speak for gym/fitness areas. Front desk employees from afternoon on I find helpful and friendly. Locker room: plenty of lockers but benches are lacking and small. No hair dryers. Sauna is great! Always hot water so far when showering 👍

It’s an ok gym, can use some new equipment to help keep us customers happy while we wait for the expansion to take place. One of each machine especially smith machine is just not cutting it always having to wait for dumbbells because you have only one set most gyms have two sets of each weight. Morning staff appears to have an attitude no need to mention names they know who they are. Plus when things brake it should not take over a week to fix, your preacher curl is currently in the process of breaking down at what point will you address it.

I've had a membership at three gyms, in town. Retro Fitness, Gold's and here, the YMCA.
Pros:
1. The Y is the least busy, of the three. The other two have a sense that going during certain times is futile, as machines, stations, etc., will be too busy. There's only a few times where I've gotten that vibe at the Y.
2. It's more than just a gym. It offers a basketball court, plenty of entertainment and etc., for kids, and so on.
3. It will eventually have a pool. This is actually the reason I signed up.
Cons:
1. It is open the least often, of the three gyms. They all open the same time, but It closes the earliest, every day of the week. I don't go nearly as often as I would because of this, as an example.
2. Because it's not just gym equipment, gym equipment is not the a focus\emphasis. Pound for pound, it has the least amount of gym equipment out of the three gyms I've mentioned, yet Retro is in a much, much smaller facility.
The gym equipment is more or less consistently in use, however, while the class rooms are empty more often than not. This may just be my own experience, I suppose, but I notice the empty rooms often.
3. The dues are higher than the other two mentioned gyms. Yeah, the facility offers more, but if I was in a situation to take advantage of those services (If I had children, etc.,), I'd have to buy a different membership and thus would be paying even more, anyway.
4. The pool 'may' be built. There is a donation drive to help fund a portion of the cost to build the second facility where the pool will be, but it is falling about a fifth or quarter shy of it's goal, and every communication I've seen is vaguely worded, with no definitive mention whether they're still going to do it if it ultimately doesn't hit the goal. Currently, for example, there's a note on the donation drive board that says "Just a little more and we'll be 'swimming!". Just a swimming pun? Pool being held hostage? Who knows. It's probably in the best interests of driving the donations higher by not mentioning any promises.
4.1. This is just a small observation, but I've read a few notices\communications\etc., that have been a bit... off-putting. None have applied to me very much, so I could only take them with a grain of salt, but for example, there was a paper on the door asking for donations, and it went on to say things like "How would you feel if the YMCA closed it's doors forever", and so on (I'm paraphrasing), and overall sounded like a guilt trip when the money is to fund an expansion, not to keep the business open. It's not like I get to go there for free --My monthly dues for the Y are more than the other two gyms, as I mentioned. Maybe someone overextended themselves attempting the expansion, and the facility can't afford for it to fail, I don't know. It was just a single seemingly tone-deaf notice, but it was enough to make me notice a few other things that made me feel as though it's possible that the YMCA doesn't fully appreciate it's customer base. The YMCA has unique circumstances, but is still ultimately an average gym down an obscure street in a decently quiet town. One of many franchises. I imagine whomever is in charge may give themselves a few undue struggles if they forget that.

It's okay but the employees act full of it and there are only 2 stairmasters. One of the machines no one likes to use so there really is only one. I even go as soon as they open (some employees also not morning people, real disrespectful) and I can't even finish my workout till I see someone who also wants to use it. However, the practice machines they have downstairs are usually empty and I only use like 3 of them. I only really go cause I don't have a stairmaster, and that's most of my workout.
