My wife and I loved training at Square Circle. All the coaches are great and super knowledgable, but we particularly benefitted from Kru Rob's expertise. One thing that set Square Circle apart for us, though, was the community. There was a mix of levels, from folks currently competing to newer athletes, but everyone was super welcoming and eager to help / learn from one another. I definitely felt like it was a safe, fun place to spar, and bonus points for the beautiful space overlooking the Financial District. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to train Muay Thai in the city!

I went to Square Circle for a few years. I came in with absolutely no idea on how to kickbox let alone Muay Thai kickboxing. Not only did I learn kickboxing but I learned Brazilian Jujitsu as well. The instructors in both Kickboxing and BJJ are experienced fighters who professionally have completed in professional tournaments. I have made friends that I still talk to and have stayed in contact with. The school itself is well kept with the equipment and floor being sprayed and sanitized after each class. Cleanliness at a gym is utmost important and, in this facility, you will find it to be very well kept. The atmosphere during class is high energy and friendly. The instructors do an excellent job in welcoming new people and are attentive to their skill level. There is this tight bond that everyone has with each other before, during and after class. Whether you are an experienced kickboxer or have experience with BJJ or you want to learn either one I would highly recommend this school. Its friendly, knowledgeable, clean, the instructors are well experienced and the people who come to train are very diverse they come from all walks of life.

I joined Square Circle for Muay Thai shortly after moving to NY earlier this year and it is quickly became a fixture of my life in the city.

Between the fundamentals training, conditioning, advanced drilling and later on (friendly) sparring there are so many ways to improve and learn and I absolutely love it.

Kru Rob is an excellent teacher both from his wealth of experience but also his patience to break things down and the intuition behind them.

Coaches Janet, Isaiah and Ray add their own unique focuses to their classes and this review is becoming a positive rant but I got nothing but praise for this place.

And making it all the easier is that the other people training here are a considerate, funny and supportive bunch that just puts it a bow on the whole thing.

I write this review preposterously sore but happy as a clam. Thank you Square Circle!

I've been a member of this gym since 2015. In that time, my gym mates and coaches have become a 2nd family to me. Everyone has helped each other elevate their skills inside the gym and outside in their daily lives through their growth as individuals. The structure and discipline I've been blessed with at Square circle has single handedly defined my 20's into a more well rounded, knowledgeable and understanding person that has been able to give back to my fellow teammates as an assistant instructor, as well as a big brother to the new comers that start their Muay Thai journey here.

So I was jumped pretty bad a couple of years ago during the pandemic and since then I saw how the quality of life in NYC has gotten so much worse. Its so very dangerous in these streets, so after much procrastination I decided to join the Square Circle fam. Lemme tell ya, Its been the best decision Ive made for myself and the smartest investment for my life. I started both Muay Thai and Bjj and so far its been awesome. The coaches are very helpful and work with you at your level. The facility is very clean. The other students are awesome and supportive and the environment just feels so safe. All in all I highly recommend anyone to begin their fitness/martial arts journey with Square Circle!

If you want to learn some cool new skills and meet some great people, this is the place. I’ve been attending courses here for about six months and am already feeling the change. I am much better than I was to begin with and continue to improve. It is far better than riding a stationary bike staring at a wall. All of the people here are wonderful an here to help, there are none of those type of folks who are just there to beat someone up. It is a great environment for learning discipline and respect for the sport, while having a good time and building a team atmosphere. I cannot recommend it any more than I am, I highly suggest you get down there and try it out.

Without a doubt, one of the best martial arts gym ever, I’m not a athletic person, I couldn’t do half the things that was being taught during my first class, everyone was being friendly and giving me advices, it felt more like a family member teaching you, rather than being taught by a stranger. Everything that I said are all genuine.

Our son has attended Square Circle for both Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu for the last year. He started at age 6. We emphatically recommend this gym and these programs for anyone considering it. Our son has come so far over this last year, and it's his favorite activity to go to. The teachers do a great job of catering to the children, while still teaching discipline and technique. The owners do a great job of approaching individual development for the children, giving homework assignments like making their bed... it's a truly caring place. Two thumbs up.

I like that the gym is spotless clean, and has a nice cozy vibe. It has both bjj and Muay Thai which is great, the class is more technique focused than those general kickboxing fitness classes. good for learning some actual skills for self defense or pure interest. Class is small and supportive, has a nice family vibe. Both the coach and front desk makes you feel welcomed.

The staff was very friendly for my Daughter’s free trial class. We were very happy with our experience. The only downside would be that their payment plan is not very flexible. I understand the need from a revenue perspective for a one year commitment, but it’s hard one to commit a 5-year old to a full year of classes given the changes in schedule during the summer and during other school breaks.

More flexibility would be nice.

A couple of weeks ago, I went to a festival at my son's school. There was food, games and a bunch of other stuff going on. I got caught up in a pick up soccer game with my son and some other elementary school kids. Before I realize what I was doing, I completed 4 or 5, back to back, full speed, 100 yard dashes. And, I wasn't even breathing heavy. I hadn't done that in over 10 years. It dawned on me that - I'm in pretty good shape! There is no question in my mind that I am in this shape as a result of the training and conditioning at Square Circle New York. If you want to get into shape, check out Square Circle.

Awesome place!! I’ve never been an athlete. Before participating in the training of SCNY, I could never imagine myself practice Muay Thai. Now I’ve been training here on and off for almost three years, gradually building up not just my physical strength, but also my confidence. And in the past three years, I never felt that I can’t fit in because I am small in size. The people here, the coach and members, are both professional and friendly. It is definitely a life-changed experience.

Been training here for almost two years now and will honestly say joining SCNY was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I Learned many skills and got in the best shape of my life. It has been an amazing experience so far training with everyone including the staff and instructors. Everyone is super helpful and friendly. No judgements here, just people helping you get better no matter how long it takes you to learn how to check a kick. I got a chance to see some Muay Thai competitions that my training partners and friends fought in. Looking forward to competing soon and experiencing what they have, having a team at your back supporting you every step of the way. I love Square Circle New York.

I’m sure many of you reading this review are the same as I was when I joined SCNY in 2016. With a plethora of good Muay Thai schools in this city how do you choose. Well after taking a few trials I found SCNY and immediately knew it was the BEST choice for me. What sets this school apart really is the PEOPLE it’s not just a fitness class you are going to it’s family you are joining a culture you are immersing yourself in. From Kru down to the assistant instructors everyone wants to see you succeed, there is absolutely no egos in the gym, wether your an experienced fighter to a complete newbie at martial arts all are welcomed to learn and train. Speaking of training they have a great training schedule wether it’s Muay Thai,BJJ or circuit training they have what you are looking for. Weight loss was a huge focus of mine and I can say I’ve seen amazing results and have went from someone who was literally out of breath on the warm up to sparring regularly and seriously looking forward to competing in the near future. Lastly having trained in a few gyms over the years I can honestly say a gyms cleanliness is big to me and Kru Rob makes sure the gym stay extremely clean. So overall if you are looking to learn the Muay Thai in a great environment Square Circle NY is for you but be warned you will get addicted to what I feel is the most functional martial art after your first class!!

I've been coming to Square Circle NY on and off for the past 3 years even though it's located down in the Financial District and I live and work more uptown. I've made the effort to travel to this gym because I really like the friendly owners, Kru Rob and Kru Bea, and I enjoy the Muay Thai classes (even though I'm normally pretty picky about my workouts).

The All-Levels Muay Thai class starts off with 3-4 minutes of jump roping, and then a series of ten short workout sets. The main bulk of the class consists of pad holding and heavy bag work, and then ends with the same ten workout sets and stretching. If you put in the effort by focusing on your speed and power, it's a great cardio and strength workout.

The Advanced Class is more geared towards focusing on technique. It is better for people who are interested in training to fight or for those interested in learning clinch-work (which is excellent for self-defense). There are also sparring classes for those who want to practice their techniques on fellow classmates.

The best thing about the gym is that it's constantly improving since they moved to the larger location. They added a fully equipped weight room, extra heavy kicking bags, and more space for classes. They also include weight circuit classes, yoga classes and allow you to attend BJJ classes occasionally if you're interested. There are even some open mat times if you want to come workout without taking the class.

When I first started, I joined at the basic level (two classes a week) and then quickly upgraded to the "Director's Club" (which allowed three classes a week). Since we have moved to the new gym, they have changed their attendance policy and allow me to attend any class I want, which makes it much better! All-in-all, it's been a great experience working out at Square Circle.

I would highly recommend this place !!!!

I love training here! I play in a sports league during the summer and needed something to do off season to stay in shape and build strength. I'm now a regular going in most weeks 2-3 times. Playing sports and being physical, I usually feel like I'm at the fringes as a woman, either because there are so few women or because there's the prevailing bias that women shouldn't play/train with the men. At SCNY, that is definitely not the case. From the first time in for an intro class to five months later as a regular, I have always felt welcomed and included.

Been in this gym since of October 2016 and I’m glad I join this gym. Prior to having Muay Thai experience already coming here has made my technique a lot better. With just fixing minor errors like my fighting stance or throwing a hook the coaches are willing to help you improve! The classes you come and take is absolutely a great workout if you come just for losing weight, getting back in shape, or just trying out a new workout this is a must. The people you meet in the gym are friendly and helpful. Totally recommend this place if you want to try out a martial art or just looking for a good workout this is the place to be.

Going on 3 months at this gym.
I started with the 1 month trial. I got an evaluation prior to discussing rates. This was new to me but having been there now I get the purpose. There are people from all walks of life at this gym, at all types of levels and all ages. If you are someone looking to "spar"/ be an a$$h01e right off the bat they want to make sure you understand that's not acceptable here. Afterwards, you are given an offer to join. This is a common occurrence at gyms. This was the same for me at I<3kickboxing and other places.

TLDR: Evaluation is to see if you and the gym are a fit for one another.

The gym is a family type environment where the people who are just taking classes for fitness are treated with the same friendliness that the fighters are. The coaches are all very positive and encouraging as well as open to input. It's a diverse crowd from actors, to teachers, to bankers and fighters.
TLDR: Friendly place for beginners or fighters.

They offer Brazilian JiuJitsu taught by two black belts under Renzo Gracie. What I really enjoy is that the Muay thai classes offered are tiered in a level of technicality and Mastery. If one wishes to move from hitting pads to learning clinch and eventually sparring, the process is very streamlined.
Kru Rob the head instructor has a wealth of knowledge and still travels to Thailand to stay current. He is very articulate and does a great job of communicating the how and why of techniques and movements. This gym is Kru Rob's passion as well as all the trainers and people involved.

TLDR: Great place to build one's skills systematically or just get a workout with awesome people.

Prices are lower than other gyms for what you get. Classes are being added monthly and this places just continues to grow and offer more and more. Other gyms make you buy their equipment and or their Gi's or only their designated attire. This places DOES NOT FORCE YOU TO BUY their gear. They have various items for sale and even parter from time to time with EastCoast MMa shop for promotions. Location is also very convenient as it is a block or less from the J,Z, A,C, 2,3,4,5 train stops. Highly recommend if you've always wanted to try Muay Thai or BJJ or if your old or current gym is not what it used to be.

TLDR: Competitive rates, small classes but filling up, allows your own equipment and fully recommended.

Beware of deceptive marketing/sales tactics. A "30 day free trial" is advertised on the site. But you have to come in for an "assessment" first. After this 30 min assessment, they try to get you to sign up for a membership which is overpriced I'll add. But back to the "free trial". Apparently it's only Wednesday 5:30 classes that are free the first month, meaning you only get a 4 day free trial really. That is if you can make those classes. If this was stated explicitly on the site I wouldn't have even wasted my time.
