Love it! The #1 yoga studio in my opinion! It's affordable and authentic classes, with each teacher bringing their own style and energy. From singing, to live instruments, to wisdom words. Always a unique and enriching experience.

The space itself is beautiful: bright, spacious rooms with brick walls, wooden floors, and plenty of plants that make it feel warm and alive. Mats and blocks and any additional material are provided of course.

Also love the regular workshops they host. I’ve tried the acro yoga and inversion ones, both fun, well-guided, resourceful and enriching.

Couldn’t recommend it more! πŸŒΏπŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ

If you told me to close my eyes and describe my dream yoga studio, this would be it! I'm so thankful to have easy access to this place.

They have a very diverse range of teachers and classes, their space is stunning, the cost is exceptionally affordable for Manhattan, and the vibe is always great.

I particularly love the classes led by Andrea and Brian as they're confident teachers, experimental in their practice, and friendly.

I visited NY for a week and got to experience 3 yoga classes here. Each one was with a different teacher and an amazing experience. I loved how each one really emphasized breath work in the class. Big thanks and appreciation from California πŸ₯°

Today i took my first ever yoga class and had a great time. I took a class instructed by Greg and definitely had a positive first experience. The class was difficult for me, but that was to be expected as ive never taken a class before. Greg seemed very knowledgeable, and fostered a welcoming environment. Im excited to go back, next time ill be trying a basics class.

A hidden gem in the heart of the East Village. Absolutely beautiful, clean and well cared for space with fabulous, knowledgeable, kind and personable teachers. Classes almost on the hour, so you are always on time and the price is soo low! Mat rental included! What else can I say!? This place is wonderful.

The space is so cute and so relaxing. I cannot believe how affordable the classes are. Especially great for a quick visit if you are from out of town. No need to worry about a mat or rental fees. Mats and props are included in the class price. Classes are pretty full, so keep that in mind if you don't like crowded spaces.
I took a class with Cassie and she was a gem! Definitely will be back if I find myself in this part of the city in the future.

A GEM!! $12 yoga (and donation based pricing available for affordability). Very great 60 minute flow with a bit of a meditation at the end.

Great for all levels. It’s a full class but enough space for everyone. Really great energy when the class starts with Om and 50 people say it together.

Such great value-for-money. Amazing place to practice! Huge community feel!

We have been coming to this location a while now. We love each teacher for their diverse ways of practicing yoga. We recently took a basic class with Bryan- which brings this rating down. He was very unpleasant to be around, wants to come off as friendly but is creepy. He had no structure to the point where someone said "Did you make this up?" to one of the poses we did. Overall he did not lead or teach us anything with a full class of beginners. He made awkward sexual jokes and made us do borderline sexual movements. We never felt more uncomfortable in a yoga class.

I just attended a class at St. Marks Yoga, and while the space itself is decent, my experience was far from positive due to the instructor, Matt Lombardo. His sarcasm throughout the session was distracting and did not create a calm or supportive environment, which is crucial for a yoga practice. At one point, he even attempted to publicly ridicule me in front of the class, making personal judgments that completely disrupted the flow of my experience. Yoga should be about fostering a peaceful and inclusive space, but unfortunately, that wasn’t the case here. I left feeling uncomfortable and disrespected. Would not recommend.

Not sure what I’d do without this place. I’ve been going almost daily for about 4 months, and it’s amazing. The teachers range from very good to incredible, and the setting is perfect. It’s a suggested donation of $10, which it is well worth, but you can pay what you can.
It’s a power vinyasa yoga, with a one breath, one movement format, that results in a fantastic workout. If you want to get your body healthy and strong, and feel good doing it, I highly recommend this class.
They offer numerous times throughout the week, with enough variety to accommodate most any schedule. All types of people and levels of yogi attend, so don’t worry about where you are at. Yoga is ultimately an individual practice that is much motivated and inspired by doing it with others. I just love it.

I took Ricki's 7PM class this past Wednesday and was blown away. The space is gorgeous and the instructor's energy was magnetic! She guided us through a fairly athletic sequence that focused on core strength, all the while encouraging us to make modifications as needed / get creative + take things at our own pace. It was obvious she truly cares about the experience of each individual as she encouraged us to set an intention and carry that intention throughout the practice using our movements and specific breathing techniques. I left feeling more refreshed / revitalized than I have in a long while - body & spirit! At $10 per 75 minute class, this place is a steal. Will definitely be returning with an eye out for any / all classes taught by Ricki. Talk about yogi finesse!

Passing thru the city for one night and stumbled across this studio. Definitely would return. I took the 90 min class with Nick. Edit: Took two classes with Greg on a return visit. My go to yoga spot when I visit NYC, hands down. Experienced instructors. Amazing space and vibe. For only $10, also. Cheaper than therapy or a self help book! Take time to peruse the entire street. A lot of history.

Favorite yoga studio in nyc hands down. 1. The price - I mean $10 yoga? Yes please 2. The vibes - the spaces are all beautiful and filled with plants and tonssss of lit candles if you go at night. It helps you really float into another dimension and get that yoga high. Fairy meets mystic without trying to hard. All the people who work here are so wonderful and helpful. The people you practice next to are also chill and just ready to foster community. 3. The teachers!! I go to all of Brian People’s classes (Katonah) and then Cassie (Katonah) and Casey (I would call laughing lotus leaning but not sure what she calls it) when I can and LOVE all of them. But all the teachers I’ve tried have been amazing, those are just the ones I’m more consistent with. Oh and DO NOT MISS Cassie’s Breathwork classes on the full and new moon, they are NEXT LEVEL. So grateful for this space and community!!! πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing the yoga classes at St Marks Yoga, and I couldn't be more impressed. The serene atmosphere and skilled instructors create a truly rejuvenating experience.

The variety of classes caters to all levels, allowing both beginners and seasoned yogis to find their perfect practice.

The instructors are not only knowledgeable but also passionate about what they do, making each class not just a physical workout but a holistic journey for the mind and soul. The attention to alignment and mindfulness truly sets this studio apart.

Moreover, the facilities are clean, and the ambiance is calming β€” a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Whether you're a yoga enthusiast or a first-timer, St Marks yoga is an excellent choice for anyone seeking balance and well-being.

I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to deepen their yoga practice in a supportive and positive community. Namaste!

<3 St. Marks! So much so that I always try to bring a friend whenever I come to class. Mathew is top tier and honestly such an emotionally available instructor, have had such lovely experiences with his classes. To leave a class and feel so connected to your mind and body is really special in NYC where bodily autonomy can be challenging.
However, I went to an instructor I’d never been with before and I have to agree with a previous post made about the music. It happened twice in the class but the first time it was so early in that I didn’t mind, however, the last 5 mins of class we were relaxing and listening to a really nice chime, then all of a sudden upbeat pop started playing after creating the space that we did, odd way to round up the class.

Really really cute spot, amazing work with the space! Even tho our instructor was really well versed in the art of yoga, he was not a warm or nice person at all (really tried to get some niceness out of him and was really hard.) I have ADHD and love using yoga for de-scattering my brain; the music selection at the beginning really complemented this until BAM! mid relaxation wild top 40s bangers hit and my brain is all over the ground and the walls. This place takes pride on being on St Marks, in an area where you can breathe and feel punk culture in the air which I thought was really cool hence I booked some sessions for my partner and I. I have nothing against top 40s, as a matter of fact I work on that side of the music industry, but these lyrics and music are designed to take our attention and I don’t know what about this is good for a meditation session in a city where not only mine but most brains are scattered to a certain degree. Also don’t know what’s punk about that; I wasn’t expecting to hear punk during our session, punk is not just music, it’s a vibe that has nothing to do with this space. Again, love the space! It’s affordable too.

Ok I didn’t want to do this because it’s already a popular class but this is by far the best yoga class in Manhattan. Brian Peoples is not just charming and lovable, but also quite knowledgeable and insightful. Brian’s silly narrative gets you through 70 minutes of delicious yoga asanas, by the end of the class you will feel relaxed and ready to face the world. These guys are the best! I've been coming here for years and never had a bad experience. Traditional vinyasa yoga classes that are entirely based off of people's donations - what a blessing. So much positive energy, vibes and support from one another, and yoga to the people 2 classes are $8 each and focus on inversions, head stands, hand stands and splits. And they have other cool stuff like meditation classes and workshops that include sound baths, lectures on healthy yoga practices, etc. Amazing. Their classes do tend to get overcrowded, but that's why they have the third floor too!

It’s a (4) four floor walk up so knee that in mind (get it? ) Bring your own mat! They do have some Incase. Bring your own water! They do have but just in case. Loved it! A new York gem! I have very little money so the donation based practice is really a blessing. There are different instructors for every class so it's a 50/50. I really recommend it for someone who isn't great at yoga bc you can go at your own pace but the instructor isn't really hands on because there's so many ppl there so you might be doing things wrong...at least that's the experience that I had with no one instructor, I will be going back more often so maybe I will have a better one in the future. I really hope this place never changes it's donation based practice bc it's a safe haven in the community. Thank you yoga to the people.

I found the studio and door person and instructors to be welcoming. The practice is always challenging. Always learning to go deeper. I love that that there are multiple studios. There are many and very convient class times.

Where I took my first yoga class and a year later the teacher training. I love this place and their people.

It's a donation based yoga studio, you leave what you can, rental mat for $2, so it appealed to me when I just wanted to explore Yoga without immediate commitment. St Marks studio offers Vinyasa Yoga classes throughout the day, seven days a week, suitable for both beginners and longtime practitioners.

It believes that instead of the teachers, you are in full control of your Yoga practice, allowing you to focus on creating your own experience regardless of the teacher.

The studio runs on three floors and each floor has a huge space for classes. During peak hours you may be practicing with 50 other people in a room, so teachers can't give each individual as much attention as you may find in smaller classes, which has never bothered me. If you have questions about poses or your practice feel free to linger and chat with the teachers before and after classes. They are awesome, empathic, and encouraging people.

The Original donation based Vinyasa flow yoga! Come here for a transformative experience. $2 for a mat, $1 for water, $10 recommended donation. Classes get full quickly as this is a very popular spot and the original of the yoga to the people, which has since expanded to Brooklyn, UWS, Berkeley, and San Francisco. My favorite teachers and the strongest ones tend to be in the first studio, so arrive 30 minutes early to catch a spot. As the first studio fills up, they send you upstairs to the next studios, which could be great if you're looking for a more beginner experience, as the regulars tend to show up early in the first studio. It can get pretty close during peak hours, nearly body to body - personally I love that kind of experience because I feed off of that energy of a room full of people practicing yoga and breathing, it feels very communal and transcendental. We're all here to better ourselves, and something about that energy gives me life. I swear I've had epiphanies here! The yoga itself is amazing, the teachers generally have an admirable peaceful aura to them that I wish to emulate, and throughout the practice remind us of loving our body and ourselves - a mix between mindfulness, meditation, self-care and love. The mental portion is just as important as the physical, and they do a stupendous job at both. They remind you to go at your own pace, and it's okay to go back to child's pose whenever and as often as you need to. It's also okay to challenge yourself and deepen the pose. If you think yoga is easy, this is the place where you can find out just how much of a workout yoga can truly be. For a first timer it can be daunting as it's like learning a new language - however I recommend you just immerse yourself in the experience and trust that your mind and body will pick up on everything subconsciously, and as you come back a few more times you will ultimately grasp the flow and develop your practice, and your muscle memory will help guide you as well. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a yoga class, or a new way of life. Enjoy!

The classes at this location are all power Vinyasa flow, so if that's what you're into this is the right location for you. There's a great mix of teachers, and the atmosphere is closer to a real yoga practice than to a gym version of yoga... Meaning, it is your practice and your hour to honor your body and yourself, not a Lululemon contest. Everyone is welcome, and you'll find all types and all levels. The atmosphere is supportive and meditative.

A great workout in the most beautiful townhouse on the block (well at least the most beautiful one you can access). Who cares about teachers, or clothes, or gear? This is a no frills, potentially free, yoga class. They'll easily earn your donation, should you choose to give one. It can get crowded; don't worry, that's a good sign.

Donation based (recommended $10 per class)
$2 for a mat rental - it seemed pretty clean and in good condition

They have several rooms, and once one of filled, they start opening up overflow rooms (there's at least 3 rooms in this location)

1 instructor for the room (fits about 50 people)
provides instruction in a very relaxing voice, and moves about the room.
The instructor helps correct once in a while, but it's a large class, and they encourage you to do what feels comfortable and to experiment on your own.
I personally prefer smaller classes with more interaction.

It's a fairly free form class, and I thought it moved quickly between poses (but it was my first time there, I have a little yoga experience in the past).
It seemed like there was a little bit more dynamic/Pilates items integrated into the class.

YTTP is a all donation-based yoga studio, this location concentrates on vinyasa flow while there are others that do bikram. This is a very popular location, and it can get quite packed so come about 15 minutes early to score a good seat (they will sometimes open the other floors to host multiple classes at a time.)
I feel like although I love it here, and it's great for impromptu drop-in service with their mat rental (donation, 1-2$) you lack the personal relationship and individual instruction you get with a membership at other studios. However, this is, and will be a staple of mine. I *REALLY* loved the NYE midnight (1130p-1230a) vinyasa session to bring in the new year healthfully.

Donation based, wonderful instructors, LOTS of space - three levels! $1 mat rental and $1 water - very reasonable for those who want to practice in the company of others but just cant afford the insane nyc life at the moment. Wonderful place all around and easy to get to.

I have been coming here for years. I used to go to the evening classes but then I discovered the morning classes, 7am. The morning classes feel and flowers like a typical pay for your class studio. The teachers seem more poised and you don't have to fight for mat space at all. I highly recommend yoga in general and this place is a great place to go if you already have a methodology to your practice. Otherwise I suggest starting with studios that teach you the fundamentals first.

Service:5, Quality:5, Ambiance:4 - This is a really great yoga location. They have great vinyasa yoga, very friendly instructors, and a great business model which is donation based to make yoga accessible to all. For any late birds, this is also the latest yoga class in the East Village (they have a 9pm class) which is a big plus for me. The studios are very clean and they have nice candlelit yoga sessions at certain hours (sunday night). The only reason I gave ambiance a 4 is because classes can fill up very quickly and get overcrowded since they really try to accommodate for everyone. My advice, get there 15-20 min early. Also come changed. There are some "changing room" type curtains you can change behind, but it's a very small space.

Good yoga classes for all levels offered at various times, mostly Mon-Fri and a few classes on Sat/Sun. Bring socks (mandatory shoe removal upon entering), your own mat, an exercise towel plus a bottle of cold water. Arrive 15 mins. early to get a good spot. Enjoy!

I love this yoga!! It's intense, especially in the summer time since there's no a/c. it's a serious workout and at the end, I feel incredible and lighter. The classes are always packed with people, so if sweaty people close together is not your thing, than this is definitely not the place for you.

Fee is donation. :-)

Bring you friends! Such an awesome place to de-stress after a busy day at work or before (if you're an early riser). Just arrive 15-20 mins before class starts to get a good spot. For a whole hour, all you have to think about is breathing, stretching and feeling good. By the end, you'll feel like you woke up from a nap. I highly recommend Yoga to the People, early classes are less crowded.

Have you ever wanted to try Yoga? Or maybe you have tried it and want more?

How about a place where you can practice for as much as you'd like?*
(*suggested donation of $10, pay what you feel, $2 mat rentals)

I was someone who enjoyed Yoga but felt that many of the Yoga schools in New York City were very expensive and it is a challenge to maintain a practice if your income doesn't afford it.

Yoga to the People St. Marks allowed me to practice with greater frequency which really has brought me greater peace. You go, you flow, you drop some dough (whatever you feel like). I appreciate the option that YTTP affords :).

And when you are done you can check out a staple of NYC - St. Marks and the Lower East Side- great food and sites.
