This gym has a great variety of equipment, and it’s clear they’re always making an effort to improve the space. The staff are friendly and helpful, and most members are respectful and focused on their workouts.

However, there are a few issues that really need attention. The biggest problem is the glue on many of the machine handles and attachments. It looks like someone tried to reattach the rubber grips using a brown adhesive that’s constantly oozing out. After a few sets, it gets all over your hands — to the point you can’t touch your phone, clothes, or water bottle without transferring sticky residue. After nearly every session, I’ve had to scrub my hands in the bathroom to get it off. This issue has been ongoing for years, and it’s unacceptable for a gym that otherwise takes pride in its facilities. Replacing the grips or covering them with proper rubber wraps would solve the problem quickly and professionally.

Another concern is groups of teenage boys hanging out in the gym wearing slippers or pajamas, treating it more like a social club than a workout space. They often gather in groups of four to seven, which can make the environment less comfortable for others trying to train seriously.

Temperature control could also use improvement. During summer, the gym becomes hot and humid — it feels like the air conditioning is turned down to save costs — while in winter, it gets uncomfortably cold. A consistent, moderate temperature would make a huge difference to the overall experience.

Aside from these points, around 90% of the members are great, and the staff do their best. Fixing the handle issue, addressing gym etiquette, and maintaining proper temperature would elevate this place into a truly solid, competitive gym that could easily attract more members

Be very careful before signing up at Synergy Fitness. They do not clearly explain the sign-up process, and they leave out important details like the fact that you only have 3 days to cancel — which for many people feels more like a hidden trial period than a fair cancellation window.

I was told I wasn’t on a contract, which turned out to be false. When I tried to cancel, they told me I had to wait for the owner — who is never available. This seemed like a tactic to stall past the 3-day cancellation period so they could keep my money.

To make things worse, one of the staff members (a shorter man who claimed to be the manager) was extremely rude and threatened me with court just because I wanted to cancel a membership I felt tricked into. He offered no help, no solution, and showed no respect as a representative of the gym.

This place is more interested in trapping you than helping you reach your fitness goals. I would not recommend Synergy Fitness to anyone.

Variety of equipment cardio, machine wts, free wts, rooms for spin, fitness and pilates classes and personal trainers. The facility is 2 levels, never feels crowded even when the gym is busy, it is clean, equipment well maintained and kept cool. Staff are friendly. Hours are convenient. All adult age groups seem welcome. Only negative, fitness class offerings and times are limited. If you want a blend of do your own thing and/or participate in a few fitness classes, this is a great space to do that!

In addition to being a Certified Personal Trainer, Youssef is also a Physical Therapist, which is a huge plus for anyone looking to get stronger. He is extremely knowledgeable in his field, as well as patient, kind, easy to talk to, and very motivating!

I cannot recommend the new and improved Synergy Long Beach enough. The club is under new management and it shows. The renovated facilities and locker rooms look great and are very clean. The new and refurbished equipment is state of the art and includes brand new Arsenal Strength machines that you generally find in only high-end health clubs. And it is still, by far, the best value in the area with very affordable prices.

I have been going to Synergy for almost 7 years. I am happy to say this place has turned around dramatically since recent new ownership has taken over and has given the gym some love that it was missing. From remodeling the bathrooms, keeping the gym clean (former ownership failed here), to purchasing new innovated equipment to target any muscle group. I hear they have a few more machines coming in very soon and rumors of a smoothie bar (don't quote me on that, it could just be a rumor). It is safe to say this is the Gym for any local resident. It has everything you need for any fitness goals and the lowest monthly price you will find in the area! Thank you to the new ownership, I am a proud to call this gym, my home away from home, for the first time since joining.

I joined Synergy a few months ago after having belonged to another local gym since the day it opened. I'd been frustrated by the fact that the other place had never added a single piece of equipment over the course of seven years.

Synergy has everything I was looking for. If you are a dedicated lifter, you will love this gym. Three full squat racks, a deadlift platform (including Rogue plates and bars), three incline benches, three flat benches, a decline bench, tons of Hammer strength machines, three leg presses (including a brand new, state of the art one), multiple pull up areas, plus a great assortment of different types of barbells and cable attachments. They of course also have the usual assortment of treadmills, stair masters, stationary bikes, and nautilus-type machines.

Very friendly atmosphere - you will feel comfortable whether you're a LB high school student, college-age, all the way to aged folks like me.

My favorite gym. All the equipment and free weights you could want. I have been going here for over ten years and never saw anyone act like a jerk. A nice place where you can get a spot or work in without any problems. There is constant cleaning going on, day and night there are people making sure the place stays clean and sanitary. Been coming here since Covid and the staff has always been friendly. The gym has just changed ownership and I have to say, it’s done a complete 180. The gym is being scrubbed from top to bottom, the cleaning guy was dusting the ceiling today. I joined Synergy recently after moving to the area and have been extremely impressed with the quality of the equipment (and they keep adding more and more newer stuff), the cleanliness of the gym, the staff's approachability and the space overall. I’ve been a member of Synergy in Long Beach for over 10 years. I have to say, before Ami & Brian (the new owners since 10-1-2023) the gym was neglected.
However, now that it’s under new ownership for almost 6 weeks, these guys really take pride in running it- the machines are all very clean now, and the owners as well as the front desk staff & the maintenance crew are always on top of things !
From what I have heard from speaking with them, both bathrooms are supposed to be remodeled, and the HVAC system will also get the required maintenance it has needed for so long.
Both Ami & Brian are present at the club for a good portion of the day and they are willing to listen to the members needs.
Keep up the good work, you ‘ll have me as a member for years to come !

Corrupt thieves. My daughter wrote a certified letter to cancel her membership last December. After six months they start charging again, out of the blue. We contacted them for a refund, they tell us that the account was only frozen. We didn’t keep the certified letter receipt from the cancellation six months ago, so we couldn’t show it to them, and they refused to refund us the money. What kind of nonsense is it to require a certified letter to discontinue services??? It suggests that they intend to do exactly the underhanded kind of things they pulled here. I’m disputing the charges with my credit card company.

I have sent 3 LETTERS TO CANCEL AND THEY STILL ARE CHARGING ME.

I keep getting overcharged for " late fees" but it's on auto pay the same time every month, and they don't refund it, they still haven't refunded me the over charges and tried calling me to make me pay more.

Don't go here. Company policy to charge full amount during an account freeze and then we have to jump hoops to get a refund. No one is ever there to help. Your best bet is to go to the rec center. This place is beyond worthless.

Do not use this gym, you cannot cancel your membership without writing a letter to "corporate" which is just a PO Box. How many people write letters by mail anymore? Use Hollywood Health club, they have a one month no commitment membership, easy cancellation.

Completely went downhill. Broken machines, working toilets were a rare event. After cancelling (which they require that you send a certified letter) they are sending me collection notices 7 months later. It’s been run into the ground and they don’t care. I believe that the manager and staff care but they are unable to fix any of the issues. The owners are the worst.

Stay away from this establishment! Impossible to cancel they charge late fees even though they have access to charge your credit card timely. There is no one to talk to resolve an issue. They are so unprofessional.

Front desk employees are nice enough but they make you jump through hoops to cancel your membership, don’t inform of correct cancellation methods, and then fail to acknowledge cancellations while continuing to charge you. Currently still being charged since trying to cancel in January. They are unhelpful on the phone and don’t answer customer service emails. Save yourself the time, money and frustration and go to Hollywood Health Club in Long Beach instead.

If I could give less stars I would. I don't write reviews often but I want people to be aware that this gym will charge you for "late" fees even though they take payments each month and when you try to dispute it they will not refund the money.

"Yeah the owners will not refund you for this even though you shouldn't have been charged" - Nice front desk employee that shouldn't be blamed

They also make it near impossible to quit. Find a better gym!

I paid for two months and didn't even go to the gym for a single day. With the new wave of the pandemic growing I decided to cancel my membership with less than a month and they don’t want to give me a refund. Also, I gotta send a letter for the cancellation. In 2020, there is no person I can talk to directly on the phone. Ridiculous. In fact, I only enrolled in the gym because it is the only one in Long Beach. But I never heard a good indication of this place.

Stay far away from Synergy. They are still trying to charge us 8 months after cancellation. The manager of LB location won't help or return phone calls. There is no corporate number to talk with someone to resolve. Certified letters are delivered but not acknowledged. Spend your money with an ethical business, not one taking advantage of former members during a pandemic.

I remember specifically asking while joining if quitting would be easy or not. I was told to just call and it'll be taken care of. Well that was a lie. So now I have to jump through hoops and prescribe to a dogmatic and purposefully arduous termination plan. The staff was rude and acted like I was taking money out of their pocket. Single handedly one of the worst experiences I've had to deal with. Some of the other reviews mentioned that they'll continue to bill you even after you've canceled. I'll be sure to keep an eye on my account after I've traversed their obstacle course of policy

the night staff are kind of rude and non hospitable to people that just want to do the carido machines, they blast the music extremely loud at night so loud that you get a extreme head ache because the cardio machines are right next to the damn speakers, which is also kind of stupid ...which doesnt bother most of the night workout people because they(guys) just lift weights and dont do cardio but some of us actually want to do both and get in good shape
i have asked them numerous times "to turn the music down at night," they look at me like im asking them for blood or something
the day crew is much better because the music is at a normal volume i plan on cancelling my membership pretty soon

Ive been a member from the first day they opened. AND I AM GLAD.

Hours are great. Open on holidays too.
Generous w guest passes.

Its a clean, well-run gym with plenty of equipment and great hours.

They are so good they keep getting more members so they keep expanding.

SO MUCH BETTER THAN THAT CHAIN A FEW BLOCKS AWAY!!!
