Been a member for over 10 years, was very hopeful after the passing of the former owner that the new owners would take this gym to another level, unfortunately that's not the case. A new coat of paint isn't going to cut it. the reason im writing a review now is, for almost 11 months the sauna has been down, but I was patient, I understand they were trying to get things right, but finally it was up and running, members were happy, but now all of a sudden its shut down for a week, with a sign stating that a member adjusted the temperature, so its not shut down because its damaged, its shut down as a punishment, a punishment to all the members who follow the rules. this is unacceptable, nobody punished the owners for taking forever to get it running. the new owners can do better than grounding members from the sauna because of the act of a member or members. I didn't complain when the temperature wasn't very hot, just dealt with it. now members on the floor are thinking it might be time to move on. we will see.

I’ve been a member at this gym for over two years and fulfilled all the terms of my contract. While the facilities were decent during my time there, the real problem started when I tried to cancel my membership.

Despite completing my full two-year obligation, canceling has been made unnecessarily difficult. I’ve followed all instructions, submitted cancellation requests, and even visited the gym in person — yet I’m still being charged. Calls and emails go unanswered or are bounced between departments. It feels like they’re doing everything possible to avoid letting members leave.

A gym should stand behind its service and not trap people into ongoing payments after fulfilling their commitment. If you’re considering joining, be warned: getting out is much harder than getting in.

Been going here for years. They recently got a new owner and this place is going in a positive direction. All the broken items are being fixed, new equipment being added, walls being repainted etc. When the renovations are done its goanna look good. I love the CrossFit and boxing area which is my main reason for coming here. Small and never crowded and has everything you need for serious training. Also never crowded which is a plus. Feels like a private gym.

We believe World Gym is engaging in unfair and possibly illegal business practices by making it unreasonably difficult for customers to cancel their memberships.

Details of the Complaint:
1. Inability to Cancel via Phone or Email:
• We made several attempts to cancel membership by calling World Gym’s phone and sending an email.
• We were informed that cancellations cannot be processed over the phone or via email and that we must appear in person to cancel my membership.

• Requiring an in-person visit during operational hours is highly inconvenient and imposes an unnecessary burden on customers.
• This policy does not consider individuals who may have moved away, have health concerns, or have scheduling conflicts that prevent them from visiting in person.
3. Potential Violation of Laws:
• We believe this practice may violate the New York Automatic Renewal Law (General Business Law §§ 527 and 527-a), which mandates that businesses must provide a simple, straightforward method for consumers to cancel services.
• Additionally, this may be in violation of the Federal Trade Commission’s regulations regarding negative option billing and unfair or deceptive business practices.

• Financial Impact:
• Due to the inability to cancel remotely, we have been charged for additional months since our initial cancellation attempt.

60-Day Cancelation Policy: My 1 year contract is complete and I no longer wish to renew. I called and was told that I would need to fill out paperwork and pay an additional two months, even if my contract expired. Something they do not tell you when you sign up but I am sure it is written somewhere. Just FYI.

Not bad overall. I used it for 4 months and had to cancel because I was moving. Cancellation was difficult in the sense I had to pay 100$ buyout. I didn’t feel good about that. It is in a mall. Lots of parking. Has variety of gym equipment. Lots of free weights. A little unclean and not enough ventilation. Not crowded though . Rarely have to wait in line for the equipment. Plenty of lockers. Lots of treadmills and climbers. The atmosphere is friendly. People are courteous.

Everything is great except a set of cables that kind of sticks in a hallway (so your sets will be interrupted but I can live with that), the power racks are a little close to each other but it’s just an inconvenience, and then the thing I actually wish was different was their seated hamstring curl. The version they have destroys your shins if you use it since that’s where the pad is. Could have easily been avoided if someone tested it and saw this so they could get one where the pad is on your thigh. GET A DIFFERENT SEATED CURL

The Inside reminds me of a ln underfunded public school. I was almost waiting for an inspirational teacher to come out of nowhere and give a speech or something to get the kids ramped up. Overall, it just had a general sense of uncleanliness to it and wreaked inside. The staff however was really awesome which is the only reason for any stars here at all because they were great. But the gym they have to work with is horrifying inside honestly. It needs a complete gut and redo. It's also very dark inside without any natural light. Not even skylights which would work great for an inner building gym like that. It would provide natural light which is a must in any place that is going to be conducive to a place that you actually WANT to go to to work out. It just overall feels horrible to be in there.

WISH I'D NEVER JOINED—Go to Planet Fitness! Greece World Gym is run-down & in dire need of remodeling & a good cleaning. Women’s locker room is dirty (esp stained carpet, broken towel dispenser hanging off the wall, etc.) I signed up (July, 22) because of the benefit of sauna, but found the women’s sauna never gets very hot, making it worthless. I asked many times if they could fix it and always heard they would check into it, but they never did anything. Terrible customer service; they never even tried to help. Staff is mixed; some are very nice; some are terrible. I got a cheaper membership at Greece Planet Fitness, which is much cleaner (every time I go in, they are cleaning the place and the equipment), brighter, and the equipment is in working order.

My husband attempted to cancel his gym membership by emailing World Gym probably 12 times without reply. When he called the gym and finally got someone, the owner’s incompetent, arrogant, inexperienced and unprofessional SON who was manning the front desk told him he had to come in to cancel. When he showed up to cancel he had to pay $30 in cancellation fees even though he hadn’t been to the gym in 7 years. When asked to see the contract he “signed” stating these terms, the owners son couldn’t locate one or provide an answer. There was no customer service and they certainly did seem phased by our dissatisfaction. Our family wasted so much money on this awful family run SHAM. I highly recommend going anywhere else and spending the extra buck to save you the headache and THEFT down the road. We will be consulting our attorney to see if there’s any legal action we can take against this company and if you were once a member I suggest you immediately check your bank statement.

While originally we went to this location to do classes and work out they removed any classes that used weights to price gate behind the world gym athletics program that is more 1 on 1 than class related. My wife and I used to enjoy this gym more and overall I would have rated this gym a 4/5 previously with those classes but overall a 3/5 now due to price for the value. Cheapest gym around for sure but you won't get as much as you could from it. Only spin classes and zumba seem to be left.

The fact that this gym's owners had the audacity to purchase new equipment to be been used for a separate fee only is embarrassing. This gym gets worse every year since I've been a member. When it first opened someone was constantly mopping the floors, cleaning the equipment, windexing the mirrors,etc. Now it's just dirty and run down. The owners must literally put zero dollars for upkeep. Mirrors broken for years, broken TV's not replaced, merely all the vinyl on every bench/machine is ripped, not enough weight clips for each barbell (extremely dangerous and careless there), machine are falling apart and missing screws (again dangerous), every bench is missing the knob to increase incline angle of back seat, all cable accessories are missing handle grips due to wear and tear and never going to be replaced, weight stacks have the weight lbs sticker peeled off. The list goes on and on. Cheap gym but damn you get what you pay for.

While I liked the Zumba class, a lot of the gym equipment isn't accessible to wheelchair users, so I felt pretty limited. Additionally, while it's cheap ($10/month) getting out of contract is a pain, even when the contract period is over. My contract ended this month, but the only way to cancel was to go in person. Then, even though my contract was over, they made me pay $10 to cancel my contract.

This gym is DISGUSTING! They always have random hair/dustballs rolling around the floor. The machines that break, will stay broken forever. 2 out of the 3 stair steppers have been broken for several months. Half of the equipment you cant use because it's for crossfit members and trainers. They got rid of any classes that used weights. Why? I'm cancelling my membership and I have to pay $60($30/month) BUT I also have to pay the $20 that you pay every 6 months to "keep the prices so low". Bull. Scam. You get what you pay for... I used to go to planet fitness and I thought worlds was such a deal because they had childcare and classes. The staff are awesome! I hired Julian as my trainer and I absolutely adore him. He makes working out fun while pushing you to your limit and beyond sometimes. The price is perfect but the gym has alot of damaged or worn down machines. I can tell they been improving some machines cushions. But another thing that ticks me is the dumbbell are so terrible organized. The way they set the weight limits from one side to the other is so disorganized. This place is great. Price is excellent and location is convenient for myself that works around the corner. The locker room and bathrooms always seem to be kept as clean as possible with dozens of sweaty people in and out of it every minute. Only problem I have is the class schedule for SPIN, not many options during afternoon/evenings. I use the Function Fitness room and love the coaches and other athletes there, such a great atmosphere.

After 3 years of being a member, I moved away and canceled my account. 2 months later I got an email stating I owed $110. When I called to ask why and pay they stated I never closed my account and owed late fees due to the card being canceled. I asked them to waive the late fees and cancel my account. They said no because I was leaving. However, it should have been canceled already. On top of that they waived multiple for my friend because he didn't cancel same day. After 3 years and no issues, you would expect better service. Especially when they quote a contract that was already fulfilled m as reasoning.

If I could give them no stars I would. Shameful business. Thought I canceled a membership a year ago when I went in and said politely "Hello I would like to cancel my membership since I received a different membership via my work". Was told no problem, a manager isn't here right now but let me scan your ID and sign this form and you'll be all set. I did that. Year later they are calling and threatening to send it to a debt collector, saying I owe $500+. No paper work on file, no trace of the sheet that was scanned and printed with my personal ID on it. Shameful. Ownership wont do anything nor will the managers. Had to go to the Greece location to cancel and once I got there was told managers were all at the East ave location. Went to East Ave and was told the proper way to cancel is 2 months notice and $40 and that no documents or history of files were on my record when I said I was give a form a year prior before the phone call. When I asked how that is my fault that I was provided the wrong form by their employee and was told that I was all set they had no response other than that they had NOTHING on my file, not the copy of my personal ID nor the sheet I signed. This place is a joke. Reporting it to the General Attorneys office and I suggest all you people here with similar stories do the same.

Be very careful who you do business with. World Gym Greece makes it very difficult to cancel an account and it is very expensive to do so. You can't just call to cancel our even hi to their place of business. You basically have to pay two monthly payments because they require two months advanced notice in writing by certified mail. I have sent them two different letters and they told me they never received either of them. Convenient, right? Then they let months go by and therefore more money adding up that they say I owe them or it goes to collections. I have never known any other establishment that would do business like this. Buyer beware.

I never really used the facility but when I did go it was clean. I just called to cancel my membership but was told it would cost me $40.00 (for 60 days notice - you don't even give that much notice when you leave a job!!!!) and worse, that I had to come down in person to cancel. I was told I couldn't cancel over the phone or online. They have an extensive website, the only reason you can't cancel online is so that they can make it harder for you to cancel. This is sadly an edit to a once 5 star review. I loved this place. I joined because of Danny Maffia, who was also voted Best of Rochester 2015, Best Fitness Trainer. I am a group fitness groupie and of all the places that I have lived and worked, this gym WAS the best because of the community that Danny created and earnestly nurtured.

Ever since Tina Westhoff-Cali, "Quality Assurance Director" (?!?!?!?) started, there has been nothing but changes, hostility and an incohesive feeling: frequent and unannounced schedule changes; the website was never updated and neither was the Facebook page; clearly her favorites and favorite classes were promoted on the FB page while the others were not; announcements that would often yield unfavorable responses on the FB page were deleted. After responding to a recent, unsetting and abrupt change in the staff, I commented on one of her posts and have been subsequently blocked from theWorld Gym Greece FB page.

The management at this gym is absolutely terrible...They are not willing to work with their customers AT ALL and they always have attitudes! I was a member of this gym for over a year and all I had was problems with them. I would HIGHLY recommend joining another gym and saving yourself the headache.

Signed up and went for the first time yesterday. I follow my favorite Zumba instructor who teaches there. Anyway, took the Turbokick class (which was subbed), a little disappointing to say the least. The speaker system in the aerobics room is sub par, missing units and the treble is so high it's ear piercing. An easy fix, hopefully management will tend to that soon. The instructor wasn't wearing her headset so her "instructions" were hardly audible. I felt completely lost. I've done Turbokick plenty of times and I have to say she was the worst I've ever attended. No stamina or enthusiasm, I hardly broke a sweat. If you want more attendance at these classes, you need kick-ass, die hard instructors. RAC had top notch instructors. They created an attractive atmosphere for their members and they did this well. Embrace that and learn from it.

Other than that, the weight, childcare, and cardio room look clean and kept (for now). The front offices look like a dorm room. Clothes, sneakers and dirty socks laying around. I'm surprised by this as the East Ave location is nicely kept. This could mean an absent manager or a lazy one.

Rochester has a vast amount of bodybuilders and workout fanatics - hopefully Worlds will do better. Overall a nice place to get your work out in and move on. Haven't tried the childcare yet.

I recently signed up for the new World Gym in Greece NY in January before they opened. For the Gold membership online, it stated the price being $24.99/month with unlimited childcare included. I myself thought this was too good to be true. I am typically not able to go to the gym because my husband and I have 4 children (at the time 3 and 1 on the way) and childcare at gyms usually cost more. Before signing up for the membership I called the number listed on the website and spoke with a very nice women about this "unlimited childcare" and if that would actually cover all my children. She confirmed that it would cover ALL of them for NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE. I signed up immediately. I went once to the gym February with two of my children and everything was fine, no one said anything to me about having more than one child, checked them both into childcare and it went great. Now on Friday 5/29/2015, I went back for the first time since having my 4th. When I checked into childcare the women told me that I needed to go back up to the front and get a receipt that said I had the Gold membership because people had been trying to check their children in without paying additional fees. I went back up to the front and an employee at the desk, that was putting on her make-up, said that the Gold membership now only covered one child and I would have to pay an addition fee for the other 3, either $2/day/child or $45/month for all 3 children.
I asked to speak with the manager James or the owner Tim and James was who came out to speak with me. So childcare would be double my membership. I explained to him when I signed up in January the membership agreement online said childcare was UNLIMITED. James said there was nothing he could do "his hands were tied." I also said I completely understand when policies change but that if they couldn't honor the unlimited childcare that I signed up for could I please be let out of my contract. He repeated the same thing again that his "hands were tied."
I do not have anyone to watch my children. I stay at home with them all day and work night shift in the hospital. The only time I would have to go to the gym I would have all my children. If the membership online truly stated that it would only include one child I would have never signed up. I cannot afford to pay $70/month for the gym. When signing up online it never even had the option to add addition children for childcare so I KNOW this was not the case and they are lying. James went on to show me online where NOW it states that the UNLIMITED CHILDCARE includes only one child. However the flyer with all the membership options on the front desk still stated FREE CHILDCARE with the Gold membership and nothing specifying a number of children. When I pointed that out to him he said that wasn't UPDATED. That word I found interesting because if it was updated it would then had to have been unlimited and free at one point and they recently changed the policy. This flyer was dated with the month of May by the way.
It is a shame that this gym would not hold up to the membership I original signed up and are now threatening me that if I do not pay they will put me into collections. I have informed friends and family of the situation and they and myself had given them low ratings on their Facebook page and 2 of us received the exact same scripted response basically stating that they would not be doing anything, a contract is a contract. Since they received so many low ratings they have removed the ratings part of their page. No one offered to see what they could do or come to a solution we could both agree on they are just saying I have no choice I am stuck and it is too bad. I appreciate the time you have taken in reading this message.
P.S. If you need a photo of the flyer from May that states "Free Childcare" I have one and would be more than happy to send it to anyone wanting proof.
