You guys have single handedly destroyed downtown Syracuse with your “charitable”programs. You can’t feel safe as a woman walking downtown to the gym of the sauna because of the number of people hanging in the street yelling, many with substance abuse issues and mental health problems. They need to get help and just concentrating them together here makes it worse.

My friends at the Downtown Y keep me motivated. I’m not a super athlete. Or in amazing shape. I’m just a humble women going to class. I’m stronger and healthier. I like the tradition and history of the Downtown Y I can’t imagine life without the Y.

I brought my two children to swim on Friday afternoon at 5 PM because I saw on your website that you close at 8 PM. However, after just half an hour, before 6 PM, they were asked to leave because the staff said they were about to close. We are disappointed with your service, which doesn't match what was advertised. We won't be coming back in the future.

The weight room has no AC. It's unhealthy to work out in a suffocating environment. Please fix the air or bring standing Air conditioner to alleviate the situation. That's all. Last week I got poisoned in the pool. It was very dirty and I didn't realize that I was supposed to keep my head above water. It was a bad experience for me.

Amazing YMCA with an admirable team behind the scenes. Venessa is the big boss and she goes out of her way to personally help all the members and guests. She takes the time to get to know her members and establishes meaningful relationships with the children who frequent the facility. If I lived in Syracuse, I would sign up for this gym. It’s been nothing but a pleasant experience on my guest visit. Thank you to the Central NY YMCA team for excellent customer service.

Husband prefers this location for heavy lifting options. However. He has came home complaining multiple he has had to shake roaches off his jacket from the locker room. He no longer uses the locker room. They should exterminate the building and the apartments above as that’s were they stem from.

My 7 year old son with special needs was hesitant to get into the water for swimming lessons and Instructor MiMi was very patient and kind to him! She convinced him to get in and made it fun! She’s an angel! ❤️ Love her!

I was looking for alternative locations regarding Pickleball. Although I have been to the Downtown YMCA a few times I did not know it very well. Following one visit I noticed the Y had set up times, court space and equipment for Pickleball but few people were utilizing the opportunity. With some encouragement from Staff and Max, the Director, I helped get the word out and now am making new friends playing hours of Pickleball that I could not do anywhere else with excellent mostly unknown facilities and equipment.

Honestly considering cancelling my membership. The brown lightskin chick who works front desk (mainly in the morning) is so rude to people, and just the other day I witnessed her being rude to a younger man. As a front desk staff it is your job to greet members and be welcoming

I'v only used the gym facility a few times it was alright...during covid. Building has a lot going on, a lot of "sketchy" people hanging around!! Don't leave your kids around! Constant drama. I recommended steering clear AT ALL COST!

I wish this location would be a flagship for the YMCA in the area, but it's really lagging way behind the suburban locations in terms of being clean and updated. The men's locker room is carpeted, lockers are rusty and showers are in one big open room. The weight-room has a decent variety of equipment and they did some work to fix the ceiling, but some of the equipment is outdated or not well maintained - benches have ripped padding, accessories for the cable machine are worn out and there's only one incline bench for free-weights. The cardio area on the top floor is straight out of the 1950's.
There's now been a couple times I've tried to go this year and it's just randomly closed during the day.
I will say the staff have always been very friendly and polite, the couple classes I've been to are great - and the location is very convenient from working downtown. Come on YMCA ... make the downtown Y great again!

One of the most irresponsible management I've ever seen. I put my membership on hold in May, and they still charged me for June and July. I went in personally to fill the form to put it on hold. I've left voicemails for the person responsible for putting memberships on hold in June and called 3 times but no response. Haven't got any response yet and the front desk says we don't know if we reimburse the money. Better hire someone who is more responsible and knows how to do their job, 2 months and they haven't had the time to put my membership on hold. Pathetic

I walked in and payed my fees and a new membership, then went to play basketball. I wasn't playing with a mask on, but when they asked me too I put it on I did so. As I was leaving they said they are banning me untill the 21st. So they charged my card and then banned me the same day.

Tried to get in touch with account management over the phone for 5 hours about an account autopay issue. The front desk was on point, but account management did not answer their phone nor did they return my call. Thumbs Down.

Okay, so this is difficult to say because I love the Y and the other three local YMCAs are great - but this place is terrible. Actually, terrible doesn’t begin to describe it. It’s RUN DOWN. There’s chipped paint, cracks in walls, stains on carpets, missing floor and wall tiles, broken mirrors with tape on them, etc. While women for some reason get their own room, men are forced down to the basement with little Air Conditioning and no towels to wipe down the equipment. To compound that issue, hand sanitizer isn’t available anywhere. Free weights are chaos, with nothing ever organized.
Employees rarely even acknowledge you, the guy at the front desk refuses to take his eyes off the soccer game on his personal laptop. The Fitness facility on the third floor has little rhyme or reason with equipment randomly placed throughout the area. Entertainment is nowhere to be found but there is plenty of empty space with exposed outlets (eyesores) to preoccupy yourself with while you get your cardio on. Honestly, this place is embarrassing and the traffic (or lack therof) reinforces this review. I didn’t complain about the lack of parking, because while it does indeed suck to pay for parking to enjoy a membership you have also paid for - it’s the only downside that should be expected given it’s location.
TL;DR: If you love the YMCA you will hate this place. If you use the downtown Y occasionally because you enjoy the other locations I get it, but if you’re looking for a home location for convenience there are far better options downtown that are also far cheaper.

Really nice facility. Plenty of exercise options. Pool is nice and clean. Can get a little to warm though. Added benefit of being able to go to any of the other Y's in the area

It's a Y, so what do you expect?
LA Fitness had a store, and many programs that I didn't need. I am still a member there, but there are no LA Fitness gyms in central NY. I only use the Y for weight-bearing exercise, I get my cardio each morning before breakfast. My workouts must be short, due to metred parking, there is a parking garage for the Y, but if I can get a space on the street, I'll always take it. I won't use the basketball court, or the pool, just some of the weight machines. My goal is to stay toned, not build muscle. Saturday morning, and the gym was not crowded, making it better than some of the more expensive gyms. Downside? The floor plan can be confusing for a first-time member.

I like going here. One reason is they have a separate space just for women to workout which I love. Membership is affordable compared to other gyms. Parking downtown on the street is a huge pain but just found out they have a parking garage which is a reduced price for members. I've never had a problem at this gym the staff is wonderful and very helpful . Everyone is very nice. This gym has alot of programs and classes to offer. This location isn't modern or style up to date which I don't mind at all. Everything works and is a good place to be. I'm conformable going there and working out.

This gym is rarely ever crowded, I cannot speak for the basketball courts or the pool though.
They are very pricey, but they have wayyyyy more to offer than Planet Fitless ! Large Locker Room, Fresh Towels, Large indoor Pool, Boxing Ring, Speed bag, Heavy free weights, basket ball court, racket ball court, and the top floor has even more free weights, and an AWESOME cable machine - similar to Bow flex, AND your basic cardio and leg machines.
My only complaint is the price for membership, the terrible schedule that they are open till which on weekdays they close at 9 PM, weekends at 6PM, the lockers are old and need a serious replacement, and the water fountain and rugs in the locker room are disgusting! But if your serious about working out and you need a real gym to do it in, then this is NOT the best choice...but it's certainly TOP 5 for the area.

Just called to get a BUDDY pass for Zumba and SCOTT is very rude. So rude that I am dropping my membership where I have been a member for over 2 years. Thanks Scott you just ran a good client away. Learn some customer service skills. I have never experienced this type of attitude at any other site..

The facility at OCC is great but the parking is a huge problem - Don't join unless you want to only be able to use the facility on weekends - Anytime there is an event at the SRC arena, all of the parking places reserved for the Y members are full and no one enforces the reserved spots.
