Anchor is SUPER accommodating, inclusive, and honestly just one of the best gym environments that you’ll ever find. The owners care a lot about this gym but even more about the community. Can’t recommend them enough!

Part of me doesn’t want to write a review because I want to keep this facility as a secret because it truly is a lifter’s dream facility. I was in town visiting family and friends from San Francisco and I was looking for a fitness studio that has barbells, heavy weights, and kettlebells. If you are looking for the same - whether here on a short weekend and wanting to get a quick lift in or resident of town - THIS IS YOUR PLACE!
I did a drop-in session and John was communicative and hospitable in getting me set to enter the studio in a Sunday morning. Once I arrived, they had everything you could think of - barbells, a wide range of weights, a variety of machines. One thing for me that was a great touch - a hex bar for deadlifts - which I do not find often in my travels to local studios so it was a welcomed surprise!
The facility was large and most importantly spotless - well kept and organized.they even had supplies to sanitize and clean your equipment after use.
Thank you to the Anchor Powerlifting Team for brining this gem to the Bull City! I will be back soon!

Me, my fiancée, and some friends came down to visit to check the place out and we were thoroughly impressed with all the equipment Anchor has to offer for the recreational and competitive powerlifter. Aside from the specialized powerlifting equipment (combo racks, kg plates, and specialty bars), they also had enough machines and equipment that covered a wide variety of accessory and bodybuilding movements such as a leg extension/curl machine, a plate loaded chest supported row machine, and a pin loaded lat pulldown machine. Owners John and Holli were very accommodating host and made us feel super welcome and answered all our questions. As a gym owner and powerlifter myself, I highly recommend this gym!

I found Anchor (by way of the women's class) last year after realizing I was sorely in need of a really good stress reliever. I also wanted to work with a coach in some capacity because learning proper form, preventing injury, promoting longevity in the sport was important to me.
I had previous experience with strength training (but not powerlifting) and it had also been a very long time since I'd last been in a gym. Needless to say I was a little nervous about starting with a class -- one, because I knew I'd probably stick out like a sore thumb due to my lack of experience & two, because I didn't know how much help I'd actually get from a coach in a group setting.
Those concerns ended up being non-issues. The class environment is super welcoming and supportive, and Holli (being the wonderful human that she is) took a LOT of time in the beginning to help me work out the knots and get my bearings. Now I feel like an old pro under the bar and I love it.
The gym is well-equipped and very clean; covid precautions are a priority; parking is plentiful! Aside from that, you won't find a better group of people around. Holli & John have built an affirming, empowering community where all are welcome regardless of experience or background.
It doesn't matter if you're a newbie or a seasoned lifter -- Anchor is top notch and they offer something for everyone. Joining the class is easily one of the best things I've done for myself in the last several years. Definitely check them out!

Anchor is a beautiful, well-equipped lifting gym in the heart of downtown Durham, but somehow with easy lot parking. 🦄
More importantly, the coaches are phenomenal— attentive to detail, knowledgeable, and uplifting— and the community they’ve built is incredibly supportive, fun, and inspiring.

Anchor is a great space! Holli is such a positive person and the women's powerlifting class is a great space full of rad people. If you want to pick up heavy things and put them back down with really, really great people this is the place to go. I've had lots of support, including working around an injury (unrelated to lifting).

I've been working with Anchor for a year now as a distance athlete and everything about them is A+. All of my lifts have significantly improved both in technique and the amount of weight used. On top of all of this, the coaches are awesome people and actually care about the athletes. Would 100% recommend to anyone who wants to get stronger/powerlift (beginner or advanced)

I am a remote athlete in Pennsylvania with Anchor Powerlifting and it was one of the best decisions EVER! Communication and feedback is superb, programming is stellar and the improvements both technique wise and strength wise in the 3 months that I have been working with them has been crazy! Totally jealous of the lucky ones who are local to them. Reach out and get in touch, you won't regret it!

The search for a women’s powerlifting class led me to Anchor. I started in May of 2021, and in a few short months, my lifts have taken off! The coaches at Anchor are incredible! Programming is top notch, and they will work with you and your body to reach your goals. This is an uplifting and inclusive community, not at all your typical gym bro space. Anchor has become my happy place and I can’t wait for the new gym space to open!

As a parent there never seems to be a good time to work out. The men's night class is fantastic and works for my schedule. The coaches know what they are doing and I am really happy with my gains and just being able to stay in shape. It is a very friendly atmosphere. I highly recommend it if you are looking to build strength or just blow off steam at the end of the day.

Whether you have weightlifting experience or are a first time gym goer, you will have a great experience with this amazing team. One of the best training experiences in Durham. Personally I am stronger and more fit than I've ever been. Check them out!
