The costumer service here is poor. My son was having issues with the noise level at lesson which ultimately led to me withdrawing him. Instead of to work with me on a solution they only quoted their withdrawal policy. I was told I could use makeup classes during the last 30 days instead of having to continue to pay, to which I have an email. When I tried to do that they said the information was incorrect. Sorry but that’s not my fault. It should have been honored instead of just arguing with me. If you employee misinformed a costumer it’s your job to educate them, not just throw a policy at the costumer. Plus the swim lessons were subpar to start with. They do the exact same thing every single lesson.

Kaley the manager is rude and condescending.
My husband paid for goggles for my son. They saved his credit card information without our knowledge and then charged that credit card for our son’s membership. They will not give us a refund to correct the mistake they made.

The swim instructors are great with the kids of all ages and are very good at keeping the younger ones having fun even at their first lessons. The facilities are clean and fun, pool is nice and warm, staff is very friendly and helpful. The app is also great and makes it really easy to schedule/ reschedule your lessons. I highly recommend, even if you're on the fence about starting swim lessons so young, go for it.

I cannot stand this place. At first they had my children with an instructor who honestly seem to actively hate them. So cold. She may be able to teach swim, but did not have the warmth to be able to teach children.
They were terrified and screamed and cried even when we were just in the parking lot. They switched to a different instructor who is actually very lovely. We showed up to class to find out they had canceled it without contacting the parents. The solution was to offer them a class 30 minutes later with an instructor that they didn’t like. Why not just delay the classes a few minutes and start late? That would give them time to alert the rest of the parents for the remainder of the day. So poorly run…

Both of my kids recently started at the Matthews location and we are so pleased. Donivan, the Aquatics manager, was really diligent in her analysis of my son's swimming capabilities before assigning him to an appropriate level. The front desk staff is very approachable and welcoming and the instructors have been patient and provide consistent feedback.
This past weekend the school hosted a Spring Splash Bash that was thoroughly enjoyed by all! I've spoken to other parents who have commented how much better the experience has been since the new GM arrived. Highly recommend!

We spent this year with Aqua tots my boys are tremendously better than they used to be . Their skills has improved so much I can calmly enjoy my pool time when they are inside. I had to transfer make up classes from one of my boys because he broke his hand and the girls on the desk were as always amazing. Everyone has really taken great care of us. Seriously we are so happy we choose them . Highly recommend their techniques are working its obvious. We will be back after the summer ! Thank to everyone working there we truly appreciate you taking those jobs !

I’m really disappointed with this swim school. The quality of teaching has dropped — my child isn’t making much progress, and instructors don’t seem engaged or consistent. The class is advertised as 30 minutes but we’re regularly out in 23 minutes or less, which feels like a rip-off for the price. Also, there’s no access to showers after the pool, which is just basic hygiene and comfort, especially for kids. The facilities seem poorly maintained, and the staff doesn’t seem concerned when you bring up issues. Not worth the money — I’ll be looking for a better school elsewhere

We're thrilled with our experience at Aqua Tots Matthews! The entire team, from the instructors to the management, is exceptionally kind and accommodating.
We've discovered that the key to our child's success in learning to swim has been having a consistent instructor. This continuity has allowed our kid to progress smoothly and confidently in the water.
Our child's instructors Sherri and Patty along with other's patience, expertise, and enthusiasm have made each lesson a positive and enjoyable experience. We've witnessed our child's skills and confidence grow with each passing week, and we couldn't be more grateful. Aqua Tots Matthews truly stands out for its exceptional teaching methods, supportive environment, and dedicated staff.

I signed up for Aqua Tots under the guis that $220 would give me about 10 lessons and confirmed this with employees. While I used half the lessons last spring, I planned to use the rest this spring ahead of summer. However, to my surprise, I realized I have been charged $220 every month since August for a total of about $1800. We haven’t been since last spring! Only then did I realize this company puts their “subscription model” in the fine print terms and conditions that are not readily advertised—as it was not advertised that way. Upon speaking to the manager, I was told it was advertised on the page when I signed up—which was not the case or I would have cancelled it. I was told there are no refunds but to please take advantage of the make-up classes I have been issued—which probably total around 80-90 classes that I’ll never use, especially now. I’m sick at the amount of money I have been charged, the manipulative marketing, and the lack of customer service for an issue that is obviously not right.

We have been coming to Aqua-Tots for about 3 years now. Most recently we have been working with Coach Donivan and she has been great, building my son’s confidence in the water and teaching him to swim. She went above and beyond in private lessons making him a personalized sticker chart with his goals. We have worked with Coach Jess and Coach Sherri and they have been wonderful as well. The new management has made some major improvements in communication and coaching consistency.

I’d leave a 0 star review if I could. Let’s start with the services. 0 benefit for a 11 month old I wouldn’t get from YouTube. When my son got distracted by other kids “alright he doesn’t seem interested let’s move on.” When asked if I should fully dunk him “that’s your call”. If you aren’t going to guide the class, what benefit do you provide. Access to a pool? Quite expensive at $116 for 2 hours a month.

Let’s get to pricing. A full month plus registration fee is required, at $155. Once we noticed 0 benefit and wanted to cancel, we received a nice “30 day cancellation period, sorry you’ll have to pay another month and we also don’t prorate.” So now you’re telling me it’ll cost me $271 for 2 classes at 30 mins a piece? That’s worse than a rip off that’s straight theft.

Final verdict. Could not recommend this any less, stay far away and spend your money on pool access elsewhere.

I really enjoy being part of the swimming school. The staff are very friendly and helpful. My son has been taking lessons for almost four months, and his first coach, Coach Patty, was a fantastic teacher—so kind and professional. After she left, Coach Sherri became his new coach, and she has been just as wonderful. She is always friendly, cheerful, and engaging with the kids, which my son truly enjoys.

The only thing that I don’t like is scheduling make-up lessons with his current coach can be challenging. At times, we’ve had to look for a different coach, which makes my son a bit uncomfortable.

Overall, I am very happy with the school—the staff, the environment, and how clean and well-maintained the facility is.

We started coming here when my daughter was 3 after not enough success at other swim class options in the area. These teachers are the best at engaging and connecting with the kids so they're interested in learning the skills. She has quickly made progress - they have a great system to track the kid's progress (and make it easy for other teachers to pick up where the last left off) and the ability to cancel and make up is so simple. I'm planning to start my young toddler here soon enough so he can be on track to swim much sooner.

Jessica has been our primary teacher. She has been doing such a great job!

Horrible location! Don't enroll your kids here. Coach keeps changing all the time. Overpriced for the 5-6 minutes spent teaching each kid in a 30 min class. The kids will not learn anything and spend years in the same level. They do this on purpose so that parents keep on draining their hard earned money. Overall, it's a complete waste!!

Piper is absolutely amazing! We switched my daughter to her class after we had her due to a make up class. My daughter absolutely loved her and my husband and I noticed right away how technical she was and her cues were amazing and knew that my daughter needed her to be able to move up to level 4 (she was in the 3s class for a good bit of time and didn’t feel like she was progressing like she should). We ended up switching my daughter to her class and she pushed her and really worked with her and in a few weeks she graduated level 3! We have recently moved my younger son to her class to give him the push that he needs as well. She communicates really well with parents on what the students did really great at and also items that need to be worked on. One other item to note is that she updates the progress reports promptly after each class to know how my kids were progressing and the skills they were accomplishing and we didn’t always get that each week with the other instructors. Piper is a great asset to Aqua Tots and we couldn’t recommend her enough!

I don't even know where to begin, other than - find somewhere else to take your kids for swim lessons.

We came in with our kids for our first lesson and regretted it from the start. No one there had any idea it was our first time, which is kind of important when dealing with kids and water. Every instructor, not just the one we had, was grumpy and acted like they didn't want to be there. It felt like the staff was just trying to get through their day without screaming and it showed. We did the parent and tot class and the instructor never gave us any information about what we were doing or why, or - even worse - how to do it properly. There wasn't a lesson at all. We were just trying to follow along the "routine" as best we could with a scared infant and toddler. As a result, we were nervous trying to keep up with the class, which made our kids even more nervous and upset than they already were. And the more our kids got upset, the more we became ignored by the instructor.

While I'm sure feedback after class is routine, I was not happy that we were singled out to exit the pool last so we could receive "feedback". I had no idea what we were supposed to be doing and my daughter has never been in a pool before so she was crying the whole time and clinging to me for dear life. No one wants to come do something they've never done before, receive zero instruction - and then have someone give you a grade for it.

And to top it off, even after sharing our experience with staff and management, their only attempt to remedy the situation was to waive the next month's tuition while our 30-day withdrawal goes through - no refund or anything. So now I've paid for 4 weeks of swim lessons for 2 kids all for nothing.

If it’s the convenient of being able to reschedule classes is important for you than this may work for you, otherwise DO NOT enroll to this swim school.

My daughter has been in level 4 once a week for almost a year and I know it’s not her. They have to follow a structure of the same lessons and method every class but if a child had any issues with not being able to pass a certain skill, why not concentrate on that method the child is struggling with, instead of having them repeat the same skills in the routine class structures the child already knows?
It’s because the longer your child is kept in the classes the more money they get since a child can only advance to so many levels.

How do they keep track of the kids progress when every kid is at a different progress in the same level? Beats me but they act like they’ve got it together?which they don’t.

They supposedly update your kids chart but it’s not updated as frequently as you’d like bc they’re switching swim coaches all the time and if you reschedule that’s also a factor too.

We hardly rescheduled her classes and was at every lesson but after talking to the school I just couldn’t do it anymore because my daughter was also feeling discouraged and you can tell Aqua Tot’s just don’t care.

I took my daughter out and into a different swim school and she’s already advanced to the next level within a week and the rates are cheaper!

DO NOT BRING YOUR CHILDREN TO THIS LOCATION! There is very high turnover of the instructors, which makes it difficult for the students to learn. The instructors all give varying feedback as well. But more concerning, the professionalism of this location leaves much to be desired. They rarely answer the phone, they start lessons late, they finish lessons early, they double charge for lessons, they mark students absent for a cancelled lesson resulting in no make-ups being given. This week I overheard a mother cancelling their lessons and leaving behind 14 make-ups because she was so frustrated with everything happening here. The management changed last quarter of 2023 and we were assured that things would be running more smoothly but it has only gotten worse.

Terrible quality of service! Coaches are late, lessons are canceled without warning! You just show up and they say: your class is cancelled. There is hair and other dirt floating in the pool. Because no one takes a shower before going to the pool or even rinses their feet. There is no shower at all to wash the child after the pool. You leave the pool, take your child home and wash him there to remove the smell of chlorine. They don't respond to messages! In addition, by purchasing a subscription, they violate rights because they automatically write off money every month! and the subscription can only be canceled 30 days in advance! I did not sign any subscription agreements. This is the worst pool and I will complain! Give me back my money!!!!

You don't answer my messages!

My children have been in these classes for about five months and it has been up and down, some instructors have no idea what they are doing, others when they only have one child because the other children don't show up they waste time instead of teaching and taking advantage and the last thing that happened tonight was my five year old son almost drowning in front of the instructor who didn't realize what was happening because she wasn't doing her job correctly, I absolutely will not take any of my children here anymore, I don't recommend place, the last few weeks they cancel my 11 year old son's classes on the same day because they don't have instructors, and they don't have make up classes. Also, there was no one I could tell about the terrible thing that happened to my son today, only the person at the front desk who told me that someone was going to call me tomorrow.

They called me and let me know my classes for 10:30 am has been canceled because of the coach won’t be present, so I told a lady to put me in a make up classes at 12:15 pm , she told me she did , I did also received
The notification schedule for 12:15 pm .
Once I arrived I checked in with the lady there .

I was waiting until the 12:15pm that lady start to call , my son Luka was
never called , I have approached to the coach and she told me he was not on the list .

I went the to the front desk and the lady told me To wait at the end line , but it was already 12:25 am and still nobody called me , i went again to the front desk and the lady says I can get into that class once it was almost finished.
Total non-coordination on everyone today classes , 4 ladies and nobody could help me .

1.- How it is posible once a coach called off they just cancel a day class instead of ask or find out some other available time or make it up to the members ??
It messed up our whole Sunday morning and my baby was very Sad.

2.-If the lady could check me in once I have arrived , why I was not on the schedule for 12:15 pm , why they checked in every one every time then , what is the purpose of this ??

3.—Why the coach I have approached earlier did not find out what’s going on since I told her I was at 12:15 pm schedule ??

4.- Why the other girl at the front desk could never help to fix this matter ??

To get my money every month and not able to help at all your are very good , very upset with this business.

For the most part they do an ok job. Our tot is in the 3’s and has been through 3 different instructors which is problematic. Each instructor has their own “energy”/“methods”. It can be more of a set back than a move forward. Each session is supposed to be 30 minutes, but in reality the average actual time of being in the pool and swimming is 25 minutes (actual time swimming with the instructor is like 5 minutes maybe).

IF there are other tots who are new or “scared” they tend to take most of the instructors time which takes away from overall learning time for your kid. They have extra instructors around for these situations, but they aren’t always available to help (which is probably 50% of the time).

Would advise doing week days over weekends, weekends tend to be a mess and too busy.

7/25/2023 Update:
Previous comments remain true. Our son who is now pushing 5, has seen little improvement. We can attest this more to the constant juggling of instructors.. we took our son to a local pool and “pushed” him a bit further and the child showed us he had the ability to swim somewhat. Fast forward a few more weeks and we completed our withdrawal form and stated reasons were due to little improvement, and miraculous the next session they decide to move him up a class.. coincidence? Maybe.

We noticed on days that our child is the only one in the class, the instructors get through their “planned” teachings and then take numerous periods of time just sitting and chit chatting or looking at the clock consistently. IF a child is the only one if the session, use the whole 30 minutes for their benefit, not 10-15 minutes and the rest not actually trying to teach or push their limits in the pool.

After spending more than enough $$, and many many afternoons at this swim school, once his makeup sessions come to an end, we will not be returning or enrolling our second child. Seek out private lessons for better results, don’t get on the treadmill like we did, and spend obnoxious amounts of $ and time.

Love our swim instructor! I just feel that for $89/month with 1 30 min class a week is alot! By the time you break it up between several other kids you get like 10 min out of 30 per class for your kid!

I am so pleased that my husband and I decided to invest in placing our children in swim classes. I wanted them to learn water safety and swimming skills so that we could have a peace of mind when we participate in water play. I already see the difference in where my children were when they first started to now. They love the pool now and can hold their breath under water🤗. The instructors are nice and they follow CDC guidelines for covid-19.

Their general manager Shaina Miller is so rude, We were 3 minutes early today and Shaina asked me and my son to stay outside door in heat, i understand we should not be in early early but it was 3 minutes early only that she acted very rudely with us.

Also on other incident week earlier, after covid big break my son's first day, we asked Shaina to "tell to coach" it is his first days so take it easy as he gets scared from water after big break but she did not tell to coach and she straight told us that coach already know it(how coach know it without informing her) she acted like she don't care, and also because of that my son had hard time on catching up on first day so he started refusing to go swimming now because of Shaina's did not do her job.

After over a year of lessons, the Pandemic closed the pool. Unfortunately, they continued to charge our account for lessons in April and June, even though the pool was closed. Most places with memberships(local gyms) stopped payment since there were no services; however, Aqua Tots continued to suck money out of our account. They opened in Jun AFTER that had already taken out money for the month in May. They refuse to refund money saying that they needed it for their employees. We've since moved away but now have 10 weeks of lessons paid for that we can only using by driving 40 minutes each way. They did send an email with a notification that if we don't let them know ahead of time, they would draft our account. We missed that email. They should have at least sent a letter or called. We now are out $334.00.

We love AquaTots Staff!! What a great team all around. I have two kiddos who swim with you and a busy schedule so we have worked with lots of staff members! We have loved working with Coach Lexi, Coach Sarah, and Coach Cameron in the pool!! Thanks so much for all your smiles and high fives! My kiddos love you! Plus I can see them gaining skills every single class! This past couple months we had some scheduling issues and got to know the desk staff probably better than they really preferred! Liz and Julie were rock stars dealing with my 10000 requests to check on class availability.. and eventually hatched a plan with Abigail to get my kids in a class that works for our schedule. I'm so grateful for their help and patience. Swimming and water safety are super important to me as a former swim teacher and lifeguard myself! I want my kiddos to be safe and enjoy the water year round, AquaTots is making that a reality for my family in a way that I can't accomplish on my own right now. Thank you for all you do!!

Communication is amazing! As a first time mom of a new swimmer everything was explained throughly from my initial phone call to our first lesson and everything since then. Our swim coach Ms. Kaitlin is amazing and she has spent so much time making my son comfortable and confident in the water. We have had a few teachers stop in to help and even sub classes and they have all been so kind and helpful even when my child isn’t being super easy to get along with!
I would recommend this facility to anyone who has children and wants to have the peace of mind knowing their child is safe and prepared in the case of any type of water incident!

It’s great to see so many people have had great experiences here.

Ours unfortunately, was a terrible experience.

We have a sensitive child, and the fact that he was dunked underwater as part of their program was shocking to me. They didn’t tell me at sign up and when I brought it up they said that I should have been told that and that forcefully dunking kids gets them acclimated to it and the program faster.

Uh no!

My child had no issues with putting his face in the water until they dunked him!! Then he was traumatized and had issues even which bathing at home when he never did before!

We switched to Little Otter and he is excelling there.

Hands down the best money we have spent on our kids! Our 5yo and 2yo have taken weekly lessons Aqua Tots for 3 months and have both gone from needing floats in the pool to being able to swim independently. My husband and I can actually relax for at the pool now! Our kids love their coaches and are excited for their lessons each week. The office staff are great to work with, they are sweet and helpful. We can’t recommend this place enough.

Aqua tots doesn’t deserve any Stars based on my experience. My 4 yr old took group lessons with three other kids at Aqua Tots for about two months at 89 a month for one 30 minute group class per week. I also paid their bogus “annual” registration fee - yes annual.... Splitting a 30 minute class up between 4 kids under 5 is not enough time for that amount of money. Our time there was a waste of money, she didn’t learn anything... when her instructor taught near the shower wall she always had conversations with the other instructors who were showering which further reduced the instruction time each of the 4 kids received. I decided to put her in private lessons which I believe were 219 a month for one 30 minute class per week. One would assume they would assign a “master instructor” to teach the private lesson at that ridiculous rate - ah no.. they Assigned us to the youngest and newest instructor. She was sweet and didn’t look like she hated her job like the previous instructor. After a few private lessons I decided this place wasn’t for us and I put in my “required 30 day cancellation notice” which is almost as ridiculous as the monthly fee and annual registration fee. I couldn’t make it to the final 30 min private lesson and called to see if I could reschedule it and was told no since my 30day notice would be up by the next weekend. I said that was unacceptable and she came back and said well we can let her join a “group” class. I said I paid for private lessons... she said sorry and They wouldn’t reschedule my 30 minute private class as they would have to reopen my registration.. although somehow they could reopen it for her to attend a group class. Horrible business model!! They said makeup days remain on your closed account so if you ever come back you can use them. What a scam.. no one in their right mind would ever return to Aqua Tots. At least I certainly won’t. Our son took lessons at a swim place off of Monroe Road. I will be going there from now on.

I will preface by saying this is my toddler’s first swim experience. We were about one and half months into lessons when one particular day, in a small class of 4 toddlers, while the teacher was assisting another child, each toddler was left on the wall in water they could not touch in. My child’s hands were slipping and I am a parent watching this happen as there is glass separating you from your child. I thought surely the teacher would recognize. No, he was completely unaware. I ran to the glass doors as I watched my child’s heads go under three occasions. Inappropriate! In a beginner class the teacher should never have their eyes off of the children, not even for a second. When I went to discuss with the front desk staff, while I was refunded appropriately and allowed to terminate my contract, I was TWICE, by 2 different people, given a “talk” about how I should still be encouraging my child to swim properly. I was even asked if he was trying to swim when he was going under. This is extremely frustrating as a parent because I diligently watch every second of every lesson and I brought him to lessons with the intention that he was in a safe, supervised environment trying to learn. Now for one week, I have listened to my toddler bring up his “hands slipping and he went under the water.” We of course are enrolling him in new lessons and teaching him that sometimes bad things happen and we work past our fears, but this shouldn’t have to be the case. The teachers here unfortunately are adolescents themselves and seem uninterested and lacking an adequate skill set to be in a responsible teaching role.

I LOVE Aqua Tots in Matthews. It only took 1 day for my almost 3 year old daughter to get comfortable with her instructor and now she is already jumping in the pool to turn her eyes and grab the wall. My daughter has amazing breath control, is putting her face all the way down in the water, kicking her feet and getting her ring at the bottom of the pool all after just 3 days total! I'm able to watch her through the clear windows that surround the pool and after class she gets a quick shower. The staff and instructors are so caring with kids who have anxiety either with the water, parent separation or both as well. They really take the time to talk to the kids and get them comfortable, it's amazing to watch and see that trust form. I also have never seen such a DIVERSE public place like this before! There are so many backgrounds, cultures, and races. The staff and instructors are also diverse, some are from different countries and most of them speak at least 1 other language. Antonio the Master Water Swim Instructor even speaks 5 different languages. It's awesome that this Aqua Tots has no language barrier! It's beautiful to see all walks of life come together through swim like this. I recommend Aqua Tots all the time, it really is that awesome!

My children have been enrolled at Aqua Tots for over a year now. We have never had any issues with management or the staff at any point. Everyone has always been extremely courtesy and accommodating to myself and my children. Reading the comments, I can say as a women of color I have never experienced any racial undertones while enrolling my children at the school. Aqua Tots’ staff and management team is ethnically diverse and never felt/seen any discriminatory acts occur.

(Update, yes you did refund ONLY Pro Rated monies paid for classes. This does not remedy the situation.
#1 You had 2 calls with myself and my husband to offer my son back his orginal time spot and instructor. You Did not!!! (I have the calls documenting this)
#2 You offered us enrollment for different times with different instructors!
You decide to unenroll him and enroll another child in my son spot without any reason other than your own agenda. You rather inconvenience a current customer who did nothing to deserve this. You should be honest to the new childs parents instead you rather inconvenience us....
#3 Your refund for monies paid in advance classes does not in anyway shape or form fix what you have done.)

Beware*** They took there automatic payment but removed my son from all classes. They decided to unenroll him and give his spot to another child (WHITE), when I called they would not allow my child to get his spot back. I never missed a payment, I never called to cancel his membership but because he is brown maybe he is unwanted here. Beware Whites Only welcomed there.

We love it here! My almost 2.5 year old started in the Ballantyne location and we moved to the Matthews location as soon as it opened. The facility is brand new and there's a ton of room for the kids to swim. In Ballantyne, there were so many classes, that the kids were a bit restricted. There is a ton of space to splash and learn here. The staff is friendly and nice and the instructors are great with the kids. The only thing missing is lockers or cubbies to store things in.
