Great equipment for strength training- lots of power racks, deadlift platforms, and essential machines

I first joined Archetype Strength back in 2017 when they opened, I had tried lots of other gyms in the area but nothing fit quite right. I loved the structure and the community Archetype built, but ended up taking a few years off during the pandemic to get some health issues under control. When I finally decided it was time to get back into the gym, Archetype was the only logical choice.

This time around, I started working with Eddie, one of the personal trainers, and it made all the difference. He helps keep me accountable and has tailored my workouts to my body’s new needs, meeting me exactly where I am and pushing me in ways that feel calculated and safe.

The pricing is more than fair for the access, equipment, and support you get. One of my favorite things about Archetype is the atmosphere—everyone is focused on working toward their own goals, serious about improving but never taking themselves too seriously. It’s a gym that feels motivating, welcoming, and genuinely passionate about helping people get stronger.

If you're looking for a place to start or start over I cannot recommend this gym and the trainers here enough.

The Gym is Phenomenal. Great staff, Great equipment, and I rarely every have to wait for machines whenever I go workout, and that is usually at 5:00pm. You can't really beat the price, any other gym performing at this level is charging a much higher price per month, if not double. 10/10 would recommend. with 3 locations you will never get bored of the environment. East Raleigh is by far the coolest.

I think it’s a certain kind of vibe - and it really depends on who you are and what you are wanting. I will say, I haven’t experienced their other locations, but this one seems to be a smaller footprint comparatively. They have a pretty good vibe and it has uniquely strongman / powerlifting equipment. Their branding is black and green, and the fact that this one doesn’t have a lot of natural light, just led to me feeling like it wasn’t a good match for me.

I’d recommend trying it out and trying their other locations for sure - especially if you need more unique equipment. But it was just a mismatch for me and where I’m at in life right now. Might try it again if I get more serious about lifting again.

They do have really nice 24/7 access which has a pro and con to it. If you’re someone that wants to come into a gym at odd hours, see nobody not even staff, it’s great for that.

If you like seeing familiar faces and lots of people… maybe their other locations have more of that.

I’d recommend trying it and supporting local gyms always, but this location is going to be very dependent on what you are seeking as a person.

This gym is perfect for those who love powerlifting/lifting in general but want to go somewhere that isn't crowded. High quality barbells, dumbbells, squat racks, benches, metal plates (lbs &kgs), and lifting platforms. They also have high quality specialty bars for various powerlifting needs. If you're wanting a gym to begin your lifting journey or take your powerlifting journey to the next level - this would be the place to do it.

I have been an archetype member for several years now. The price, community, equipment, and overall experience is unmatched. I came to archetype insecure about lifting weights and using machines. I have gained knowledge, confidence, and have found a place that I would recommend to anyone of any fitness level. It is a very welcoming, positive, and fun environment to be a part of.

So far, I've only done a quick trial workout here, but the gym has a great feel and was very clean! The owner, Steve, is quick and friendly with his responses. I appreciate the ease of the 24/7 access as well, which uses a simple app or website for access to the front door. Overall great facility, albeit still a small, community-driven gym. Can recommend it to anyone looking to get a solid workout away from that commercial-gym feel.
Edit: After working out here for quite a few months, I can't recommend this gym enough! It's always been awesome to come out to with some great energy all-around.

Super happy with the quality and variety of equipment. Having gone to crunch for a year which is probably 15 times bigger, this gym has more and better equipment because the owner CARES

The honor system on the snacks is awesome when you need some sugar mid workout

Community is nice, it’s never overly crowded (I usually go 6pm-10pm range during the week). The self check in means I can be there on my late days or as early as I need to get after it

“To be hand held”
“The program was a success for those who followed it”

A lot of people have personal trainers at this gym so the first statement is very concerning for a gym Owner.
I entered in a summer shred program ($300 // $99 a month not including the other $70 a month just to train open gym) where I was UNDER the impression by the phone call prior to joining and agreeing that we would be meeting through the week, training as a group, or even with our trainer. Which never really happened except weigh outs on a weekend and talking, “I’ll be X and Y if you need me”.
Then when it’s brought to the attention to the owner, now it’s switched up to just being told what to do as if you couldn’t ask other trainers in the gym there for that for free.
I went ahead and found a legit trainer outside of this gym and had 0 issues with my growth and commitment / communication for lower the price.

The owner doesn’t handle criticism very well, and ASSUMING I didn’t follow up on this “program” was a big yikes considering I still did my dieting and actually hit my weight goal for bulking (I’m a very petite person and very very high metabolism) and cut and still making sure I was hitting workouts and weights whether there or another gym.

I will say they were patient with my payment part (life happens ig), I had fell ill for 2-3 weeks and was out of work. I communicated on my end especially when I had fallen behind on some stuff.

Definitely felt scammed and then disrespected by the owner for speaking up about this. Especially when I wasn’t rude I was just expressing that it was disappointing for what I paid for …. I was going to leave at least a 3-4 star until his side remarks shown below to be honest.

One of the best gyms I've been to, and certainly the best in Raleigh as far as I'm concerned. 3 locations for the price that most serious gyms charge for 1 is impossible to beat, and each location has their own unique feel. If youre coming from a standard commercial gym this definitely has a bit more of a "hardcore" vibe at first glance, but after a session or two here you'll realize it is an extremely chill and positive environment.

The equipment selection is my favorite aspect since I always like to try new exercise variations. They are constantly upgrading and adding new stuff. Several times now I've wanted to implement a new type of specialty bar or machine that I'd never tried before, and within a few months I walk in and boom, there it is, like the staff can read my mind. Would recommend this place to almost anyone.

Been a member of Archetype for almost 3 years now. I can 100% guarantee you will not find a gym community like this ANY where else in the area. Archetype has transformed my gym anxiety and insecurities into motivation and an eagerness to be around the gym and the members. All of this was done through the incredible community at Archetype and that starts with the members. I’ve rarely been around such supportive and incredible people in my life. Archetype truly promotes gym positivity.

Aside from the community, one of the coolest things about the gym is the wide array of equipment. Deadlift platforms, squat and bench racks, machines, special machines (like belt squat, pendulum squat, hack squat, decline bench, GHD extension, wagon wheels, etc.), a large dumbbell selection, kettle bells, cardio equipment, punching bag, and a 40 ft turf with sleds and a yoke. Also a vast selection of speciality barbells like SSB, football bar, etc. From powerlifting to HIIT, there is everything you’d need.

Lastly, the vibe of Archetype is sick. I train out of the West Raleigh location 95% of the time. It’s a badass, community-style, “garage” type of vibe that’s always bumping music. All 3 locations are 24/7 and are never too crowded, and honestly, rarely crowded at all. Very laid back.

10/10 recommend for anyone looking for a place that offers the ability to just lock in and workout and/or be a part of a special and uplifting community.

It is the BEST gym around the area when it comes to equipment and even during peak times, I never find myself waiting for equipment. It’s a warehouse gym and it makes me feel excited to work out being in there. These are 24 hour gyms so there’s no staff that can assist with your issues like commercial gyms but, the owner is really great at communicating as long as you communicate properly. He’s also able to pause memberships within reason, I’ve had to pause due to work travel that kept me out of state for 4 weeks and he was kind enough to skip payment for a month, some gyms make it a hassle to pause your membership. The reviews about him being rude make me chuckle because he might come off as rude but, he’s just being straight forward which I can see why some people might think is rude. I don’t know him personally but, every interaction has been straight and to the point.

The reason for 1 star being reduced (and it’s a me problem) is that when it gets hot, the gym is HOT. It is a warehouse gym and the best they can do during the summer is use fans and it basically turns into a hot lift session which, for some, they love it but, for me, I struggle. The website could also be a little more user friendly because the cancel membership button is at the bottom of the website and the member portal can be a bit confusing but, again, as long as you communicate with the owner properly you’ll be fine.

Absolutely love this gym! It’s got a ton of speciality equipment that you can’t find anywhere else—yokes, sandbags, belt squat, etc. Plus all the standard stuff you’d need, all in one place.

24-hour access 7 days a week, very few people, and you can control the music playing over the loudspeaker.

I can’t praise this gym enough, but this is not a place for casual exercisers, and I think the price reflects that. If you’re serious about strength training, powerlifting, athletic training, etc. you’ll love this gym! The equipment is high quality and serious consideration was put into the selection.

Just signed up for this gym and very happy so far! Tons of deadlift platforms, squat racks, and machines. I had no problem finding anything I needed for my personal trainer’s exercises (sometimes she programs things that require very niche machines / equipment) and I didn’t have to wait for anything! I even went when it was listed as “busiest time” and it didn’t feel crowded to me.

★ 1

My recommendation- DO NOT sign up for a membership here, especially if you require any sort of customer service. My understanding is the gym is great but don’t expect anyone to be around to help with issues. Rude and unprofessional business owner, both in person and online- just read the comments on any negative reviews. And if you need to cancel your membership, expect an attitude and no assistance with the process so they can continue to charge you.
I’ve read his comments to other reviewers regarding cancellations, and while I fully agree with his accountability statement, it’s obvious he has not had any training regarding basic customer service or business ownership. Or for that matter, just basic decency to help a young adult who has asked for help with a cancellation process. I’ll take the blame for not getting involved sooner as a parent, who is also trying to teach accountability, but I would not support a business where the owner can’t treat clients with basic decency. I’m happy for him that he feels his business does not require client retention.
History- My son signed up for a three month membership for $65/mo while he would be home last summer. In August our account was charged twice with a $69 and $14 fee. When he finally reached the owner, my son informed him what came out of our account and that he had cancelled his membership through the App, which is how you HAVE to sign up for a membership. My son was informed they were aware of a system error and we should see a refund in 7-10 days. Okay, it happens and I did not think much of it. However, not only were we not refunded but we continued to be charged monthly for $69.
Son is home again and personally goes in to get help to cancel, with his phone so he can show them what is happening. Not sure who he spoke with, since the owner has been clear in other reviews he does have front desk staff, but my son was again told he would need to speak to the owner.
He was able to speak to the owner on the phone yesterday, since the owner was not going to be in person at the location my son went to. The business owner was RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL, DISMISSIVE AND OFFERED NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. Told my son this was “his problem” and he has to log in to the WEBSITE in order to cancel and he would still have to pay for one more month.
After multiple calls during the last 6 months, why was my son not informed even once that cancellation is through the “website“ and not the “App”? And why does your App even have a cancellation option if it “doesn’t work” and is not accepted by you? And why in August, when my son first spoke with you, did you not correct him that the policy states to use the WEBSITE and not the App, to cancel? Just a simple correction to make on your part. I don’t care where it’s “written” or how many places, good customer service would dictate correcting the client at some point in 6 months when they are asking for help with a situation. Six extra months that you get to keep collecting payment for.
I will not be chasing anyone around for “help”. My son has finally cancelled properly, I hope, because I don’t trust your process, but I will be notifying the bank to stop any further payments to your business (which I’ll have to pay for) just to be sure. And if it’s not cancelled properly, I will let you just cancel my son’s membership for nonpayment or you can chase me for payment for 6 months. Maybe then when someone asks for help and you do not simply offer corrective information, or care about customer service, are rude and dismissive AND use “ your system” to take advantage because the customer is young, then maybe Archetype ownership will reevaluate their basic customer service skills.
My suggestion, if you read this far, is to NOT sign up for a membership with this company or let your minors use the facility. There are many more reputable facilities in Raleigh that actually care about customer service and do not take advantage of their younger clients or use their “system” to their advantage.

Best gym around. Minimal broccoli head count. Your lifts are proven to become more anabolic if you train at this facility. You’ll gain the respect of your friends and colleagues simply by picking up weights here and telling them about it.

There are several personal trainers available to work with if you're interested in that route, as well. If you are a power lifter, this is an especially great gym for you. No AC and filthy in both locations. I’ve never been to a gym like this before. The bathroom is filthy and the top of the toilet is missing.
The shower in the other location is equally as dirty as this one but the final straw for me was seeing the towels in there. Does anyone even clean this facility?! I’m not touching anyone’s dirty towels or standing in a shower full of dirt and grime and hair in it! Let alone the counter for water and other treats has a filthy sink beside it. They need to do better. I’m looking for another gym once my commitment is over. This is disgusting. Let alone the condescending comments on the wall. Seems like there’s just a bunch of careless and combative energy here. I’ve seen previous commenters going back and forth with the owner and I’m not even going to waste my breath. If they don’t care, there’s no point. I guess you pay for what you get.

Edit: The owner Steve actually reached out to discuss this. The shower has an issue and someone left the water running so it was flooded which is why the towels are there. He addressed all of my concerns professionally. They do clean the gym it just depends on what time of day you get there and depending on whoever previously used the gym and if they decided to clean up after themselves. Since there is no staff on site 24/7 you may run into stuff like this. People need to do better, but beyond that it’s a solid gym. Definitely beware of the weather when coming here in the summer. Snag a fan nearby if you can. They have plenty on site which help with the heat during your workout.

Shady business. I spoke to a woman at the Cary location a few weeks before my membership was supposed to end and told her I wanted to cancel. I made sure to confirm with her that it would not auto-renew and she said I was good to go. I end up getting a charge the next month and I call the gym. A guy picks up (assuming this is the owner) and he’s immediately combative saying that I needed to give 30 days notice and cancel through the site. After I mentioned what she had told me, he said they “didn’t have anyone who worked at a front desk” I said, “Then who did I talk to?” (The woman was in one of their office rooms sitting at a desk when I spoke to her) He had no real response and kept saying “it’s in the contract how to cancel blahblahblah.” I understand if I missed the fine print but maybe you guys shouldn’t have someone telling people the wrong thing? All she had to do was tell me to go online but instead you guys refuse to take any accountability. Clearly highly unorganized and makes me think they probably do this to people all the time. Seems that way from other reviews too.

I visited the gym yesterday. I was under the impression I would at least meet the owner or a manager, instead I was provided a code. Immediately I was impressed with the equipment and cleanliness and layout. I immediately looked up the drop in charge and realized I didn’t want to pay 30 dollars then potentially pay another 65 for a membership if I liked it. I just signed up for the membership, but realized as my workout progressed, this was not the place for me. I saw no other Powerlifting competitors and was missing some of the equipment I needed. I realized the time I would typically train didn’t have the gym environment I was searching for. I immediately regretted signing up. I sent the owner a message explaining this and asking if there was a way to count what I paid as a drop in fee (even though it was double the fee) and to void the 3 month contract since I technically hadn’t even started it yet. I do understand that I may not receive the answer I want. The owner responded the next day trying to convince me to give it a chance. I explained it wasn’t what I was looking for and then he proceeded to tell me he couldn’t cancel and the contract was clear. They have classes, coaches, awesome people, etc. I was very clearly not looking for classes or even coaches, but a Powerlifting gym/community. I also received a email with the rules which state no one could spot you, which I am absolutely not comfortable with. Sharing equipment also isn’t allowed. I understand the contract, but between the mandatory contract, fees, and unwillingness to void it when it will not affect business at all makes me believe it’s more about money than members and community. The gym could be great, but there are too many fees and contracts and you have to jump through hoops to cancel. Can’t wait for the next three months to be over.

Edit: I do realize I signed up and I take accountability for that, but after this review the owner reached out via text to argue with me about this review and then refused to answer a question I had about the contract further proving my intuition about this place was spot on. Avoid this place!

A Hidden Gem: Unbeatable Garage Gym Experience with Top-Notch Equipment and Community

As a lifelong fitness enthusiast, it's rare to find a gym that truly stands out from the rest. But that's exactly what I discovered at Archetype. This remarkable facility combines the raw authenticity of a garage gym with industry-standard equipment and a community of members who share a genuine passion for lifting.

Walking into Archetype, you instantly feel the garage gym vibe. The exposed brick walls, metal beams, and old-school garage doors create an atmosphere that is both nostalgic and inspiring. The gym is always clean and well-maintained, with the perfect balance between industrial charm and modern functionality.

What sets Archetype apart is the exceptional quality of the equipment. With a vast array of industry-standard gear, it caters to a variety of fitness enthusiasts—from powerlifters and bodybuilders to CrossFit athletes and casual gym-goers. They offer an impressive selection of free weights, resistance machines, and cardio equipment, allowing members to customize their workouts according to their personal goals.

If you're looking for a place to challenge yourself and grow both physically and mentally, look no further. I wholeheartedly recommend Archetype to anyone seeking a unique, inspiring, and motivating gym experience.

Walked in during business hours, no one was there. Scheduled a face to face appointment, no one came but I was allowed to check the place out on my own. Asked to check out the 2nd location at same time of the first appointment before making a final decision to sign a minimum of 3months contract. Was told I could. Went and no one was there and the door was locked. Checked messages, was left on “seen.” Nevertheless, still liked the setup of the gym and the 24hr access, so asked how to sign up and even asked about a group membership for my significant other. Was left on “seen”again… I’m good, dawg ✌🏼

I just signed up three days ago. First of all, I’m wildly in love with this gym. Before I signed up, I called the number posted on google and it’s the actual owners’ cell phone. His tone and delivery is straight to the point. I asked one question about rates and he not only answered it, but he covered sign up fee, prorate, discount codes, and the cancellation process. I actually read the terms and conditions on the sign up site and giggled at a few of the sections because it was clearly written by the owner himself but also written quite professionally. This gym owner takes serious pride in himself from what it seems, and I love that he comes across as someone who’s so confident in himself that he’ll be so real and cut to the chase without having to feel like he has to sell me into a membership. He knows what he has to offer and he’s firm on his standards. I think his price for access to TWO 24/7 gyms is also awesome. I’m so grateful for access to a gym that’s loaded with attachments, 24/7 access, and all the space I need to thrive.

The gym itself (Cary location) is in good shape and has a wide range of equipment. Though, it was lacking some TLC when I had last went, which I also provided as feedback when I canceled via the online form. Easy things like cleaning up the bathroom and gym, keeping sanitary items stocked, and so on. I ultimately canceled as I switched to a closer gym, but, those items did play a small role in my decision. It seems as though the owner is a bit removed from the day-to-day workings and perhaps that plays a big part in my primary concerns. Perhaps more focused on the new location that is soon to be opening. So all in all the gym itself is Ok; however, my review is largely based on the cancelation process, which if you couldn’t tell from previous reviews is horrendous. The owner should take this as a sign that it’s time to fix what is a very broken process. I canceled via the online form and received no confirmation. I then followed up via email with the owner and once again received no confirmation. I was then overcharged the next month after canceling, contacted the owner, and with the same pattern received no confirmation or response. Ultimately, I filed a fraud claim with my bank against the overcharge and thankfully was refunded.

** UPDATE **
Adding on to my review and switching from 2 to 4 after receiving a heartfelt call from Dominick expressing his concerns and apologies. Sounds like they're taking all of the feedback (from everyone) and applying it with sincerity, which I loved to hear. I wish nothing but the best for Archetype and I hope that all the kinks are sorted out soon. I did truly enjoy the gym (and may return one day). As the saying goes, "Take care of your customer and the business will take care of itself."

I wished there was a zero or negative star for the professionalism and communication. Canceling your membership is nearly impossible after giving a 30 day notice and paying the final monthly payment. We cancelled on 02/26/22 and should have paid our last monthly membership March 2022. However we have been billed April and May. We contacted them immediately in April and received a text "Calm down Bro" we will fix it and nothing happened. So May comes and on the 1st we were charged but immediately refunded. We were happy and thought finally we are done, they have cancelled the membership. Then today there is a charge for membership fees. We called and immediately there was a combative tone and exchange. It is never them and the problem is never rectified. We should not have to cancel our card. I just wonder how many other consumers have this problem. Cancelling seems to be impossible. My next step is the Better Business Bureau and any other consumer advocacy outlets and Bro we are calm.

I've been going to Archetype Strength for almost a year now. Since January (it is now November) I've lost a total of 45lbs, severely reduced my body fat, and put on a bit of noticeable muscle. Archetype, for me, has been the best gym I've ever held a membership at - and I've tried more than a few over the years.

A gym is a gym, right? And it only matters how much work YOU put in. While this is true - not all gyms are created equal, and the results you get will differ depending on what you have access to. That's one of the best things about Archetype, you have access to everything, 24/7. It's a private, very clean, and professional gym. As such - you don't wait in line for that one bro to FINALLY get off the rower/squat rack/bench. You don't have to struggle to find space to actually use free weights, and you have access to extra stuff I've never had at other gyms before such as multiple punching bags, sledgehammers and tractor tires, and weight sleds.

On top of all of that, the owner, Steve, is easy to work with. A simple text will resolve 99% of the issues that can occur at the gym. A piece of equipment is out of order? It won't be the next time you go in if you let him know. Have a request for a small piece of equipment such as a particular bar for the cable machines, he'll likely order it if you just text him about it.

You also get access to a private gym Facebook group, the option for personal training with a decently flexible schedule, and access to friendly challenges for reps within the gym via the blackboards.

It's not $10 a month, and I'm glad - because the people that pay to go to Archetype are serious about making a change in their lives. I've fit into clothing sizes this year that I haven't in almost a decade. The work you put in at Archetype Strength, the results you'll see in yourself, and the other friendly people you'll meet there truly make this the best gym in Cary.

The gym is great, but should you ever have an issue BEWARE - the ownership/Steve is incredibly combative and unprofessional. And true to form, you do not have to take my word for it - just scroll any negative review on this string and note Steve's response. Each response is combative and takes zero accountability for areas that he could have done better. Similar to Kyle ( note his review and Steve's response - a complete lack of accountability for billing the poor guy for 5 consecutive months after the original challenge that Kyle signed up for ended!). My experience is similar - i signed a six month contract (and realize that when you sign up it is on a very small hand held that makes reading/internalizing the contract very challenging). When I finished signing Steve indicated that he'd send me a copy of the contract - but Ive yet to receive it. My contract was from June 30-Dec 30, yet today Steve informs me that once the contract ends, he moves into a month to month billing cycle. Huh? What is the purpose of a contract if I'm still locked into a perpetual month to month. Despite the fact that I provided a text on Dec. 7th confirming my last payment of my six month contract, and that no further drafts should be issued since I was not renewing my contract - he sends me a flurry of aggressive texts today asserting that I was trying to get out of paying a 30 day cancellation fee - today is the first I was ever even made aware of the month to month after the end of my contract term or the need to even provide notice ( again who does that when you have a contract for given terms?????). And finally, how do you provide notice? The only notice he'll accept is via a form that is hidden on his site !! A form that you can't find or navigate to own your own! Talk about shady and lacking transparency ! Clearly the lack of clarity and transparency around contract terms , the month -to -month billing , and cancellation processes is an intentional money grab. And what is pitiful is that I considered Steve a friend - I joined for 6 months specifically to support him, and had he operated in an honest straightforward manner, I would have even happily paid $100 bucks for the January cancellation fee, but at this point it's principle. There are lots of gyms with good equipment - think long and hard before you contract with someone so combative and unprincipled.

Edit: And yet again, zero accountability in Steve's response. I'm not alone in leveling this exact same complaint that many others have, yet it's all my problem/fault and he has zero accountability.
Again - I was never given a copy of the contract - Steve only finally emailed me the contract today after he saw this review.I was never made aware of a month to month provision after a contract term end, He never articulated cancellation processes or where to find the form to cancel. And finally I did provide advance cancellation notice - just not via his process, because he only made me aware that there was a process and a month to month provision TODAY. He got a text from me on Dec 7th articulating my desire to end my contract at terms end, and letting him know I had placed a stop payment on the ACH drafts.. Doesn't sound like someone who cares about his customers or making it easy for them to manage a membership at his gym.
Again, life is too short, there are many great gyms- Strengthfeed, Capitol strength, Heat - I've been to every boutique gym in Raleigh and have never had an issue until Steve. Think long and hard before you sign on the dotted line......

I wouldn’t recommend this gym. I’m not sure how they used to operate before quarantine but they were one of the first gyms in the area to open during quarantine and they took advantage, charging an outrageous membership fee. This place has no AC, so keep that in mind during high 90 degree summer days, it gets super humid and stuffy. The fans don’t do much but blow hot air, although I knew this before I signed up. What I have issues with is this is a small gym, and it gets packed. There’s supposedly a limit of only 10 ppl at a time in the gym, but there would be 20-25 people in it. Rules say to maintain 12 feet away from each other, impossible when the gym equipment and machines aren’t even two feet apart. All the new assisted machines the owners placed is on top of each other and constantly breaking down. Bathroom is always dirty, as if nobody cleans it. On top of all this, the entire I was a member here, I had billing issues such as charging more than what I was told and would have to contact them multiple times to fix it. Once again, don’t recommend this gym. There’s a lot of other gyms opening up now. Not worth what you’re paying for.
RESPONSE TO OWNER:
You didn't give me a free month as a compensation, you just overcharged my boyfriend with what I would've owed for the second month, because you overcharged me the first month and never gave me that refund. My second month was most definitely not free. Also, I went to your gym every day when I was a member and went at several different times during the day as well, the bathroom was never clean. You installed the fan after I left, so I can't say much for that. I'm just saying, you don't get what you're paying for at this gym in my opinion.

Wouldn't recommend the gym. Can't come to an agreement with Steve, the owner, about what happened. I originally signed up for the challenge and right from the start nothing was organized. The person in charge of signing me up never explained much of the rules or what was going to happen moving forward.

In the end, I completed the challenge and began being charged monthly for an ongoing membership which I never agreed to or at the least had not known about. Steve's defended it by saying it's in the terms, small print etc. To his defense sure it might be, but I'm not going to work with a small business owner who tries to trick people into charges.

When it was all said and done I trained there for 6 weeks and ended up paying $1148. Was charged ongoing for the last 5 months and I never stepped a foot in the gym. Know what you're signing up for.

I hate to leave this review because I have heard so many wonderful things about this facility....It seems as if they were pressuring me into paying and signing up prior to answering all my questions, then proceeded to belittle me when I didn't sign up immediately.

My experience was one I hope no one else ever goes through with this business, because no one should be treated in such poor disrespectful manner. I was appalled by the conversation that transpired as I was judged before anyone ever met me, I was told what I was not going to accomplish rather than being encouraged, and I was not motivated to better myself.

What this employee/owner did not know is that I already work out 6 days a week and am 100% happy with my weight. I do not need to lose weight. I did not need anything more than a class schedule and information on how to make a payment for membership, but instead I received disrespectful and unprofessional responses.

This place over complicates things and assumes everyone is overweight and lazy. Beware.

Archetype Strength is arguably one of the most interesting gyms that I have ever been to. Unlike other gyms with lots of public exercise equipment, this one has challenging classes, great instructors and NO BS whatsoever.
I wasn't sure if I'd like the layout of the gym at first, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that I was actually getting better workouts here than I previously was under the supervision from my instructor down at LA fitness in Houston (I moved to Cary Sep 17). All the coaches I worked with (Thad, Jim, John, Courtney) are very knowledgeable and off course the man Steve Olson himself. He is the owner and knows the business very well as he has done this for more than a decade now.

I joined as a part of the 6 weeks challenge during Mid March 18 and since then there is no looking back. The challenge is over but the motivation I get keeps me going. Steve helped us with simple meal plans and rest of the instructors helped in getting our exercising basics right. The fee may seem higher at first but the consistent coaching and the diet plan are a plus and outweighs the overall cost. And results are your direct proof. What I like about the classes here is that they are all full-body workouts, and they really do kick your ass if you're willing to put in the work.

Overall I will sum it as

Great workout atmosphere (The gains, coaches and environment keeps you motivated)
Excellent coaching (Every class every time)
Simple and easy to follow diet plans (even for vegeterians like me :)
Flexible schedule (No over crowding as you schedule your class in advance and its limited no of people at a time)

The gym is really effective, I did the 6 week challenge and lost inches everywhere, clothes fit so much better and the side benefit of being much stronger is not bad either. It builds stamina in a non-boring way. No lengthy runs or treadmill/elliptical workouts. You are constantly moving, the hour flies by after you've been there a couple of weeks. Between that and eliminating all the processed foods you'll feel great and look even better. For me, the weight training thing was a bit intimidating at first since my gym time usually meant cardio before this, but it's addicting! My favorite exercises became dead lifts and bench press. Who knew? So glad to have given this a try, I'm very happy with my results.

I started training with Steve at Archetype end of February 2018. I was in a rut and looking for a program to get me back on track with diet and a training routine. My husband and I have years experience in the gym, training and changing diet to reach fitness goals, so we weren’t new to the scene, but that being said, Steve did not disappoint! It’s very obvious Steve has the experience and knowledge to help everyone of all fitness levels to reach their goals. Whether you are a beginner just starting out, never picked up a weight before, or you have been lifting for years, you will learn something new. I really liked that he helped focus on proper form when training. I have been squatting for years and turns out I was doing it all wrong! Another added benefit is the diet plans he puts together for each individual. I would recommend Steve and Archetype Strength to anyone looking to get motivated and get a great workout without having to put to much thought into it. You just show up with a willing attitude and get pushed to your limits! It’s great! I’m back on track and it feels great. Lastly, he offers childcare so it was convenient to workout in the evenings when I had my kiddos with me. They were close by and I was able to check on them throughout my workout, which is always a comfort. The gym overall seems to be very family orientated.

So if you are looking to make a change in your life, I highly recommend you give them a try. You will not be disappointed!! I trained with Archetype Strength during one of their six week challenges. And I loved every minute!
Steve Olson, the owner, provided an easy to follow meal plan and weight training classes at the gym. Classes are scheduled daily Monday - Saturday, with morning, afternoon and evening options available. Steve and the Archetype trainers are knowledgeable and motivational! They are quick to modify workouts to accommodate an injury or limitation due to weakness or otherwise. The gym is clean and stocked with top of the line equipment from rowers, treadmills and bikes to weights, benches, racks and ropes. Every workout is different and I left each session feeling accomplished and stronger!
Archetype Strength is the gym for anyone who wants personalized workouts, motivational and knowledgeable fitness professionals and RESULTS.

I came to archetype strength and conditioning when Steve, the owner, I just opened in January. He was offering a 6 week challenge and this appealed to me because I was looking to challenge myself even further in my weight-loss Journey. What makes this place so great is that it is a No Excuses Gym. You are getting the best education on how to change your lifestyle and your lifting habits in the gym. You get the feel of having a personal trainer every week but in a smaller group setting. I love the sense of community and it's nice to go somewhere every week where people constantly see and remind you of the gains you're making. It is a wonderful place to call my home gym. Oh yeah and I kicked ass and took names in the challenge. I lost 24 pounds in 6 weeks. If you want to change your body and your lifestyle this is the place for you.

I had a hard time breaking out of my usual workout and diet habits whenever I would try to improve them by myself. So I decided to seek assistance through Steve at Archetype Strength. 6 weeks later I can say that it was one of the best decisions I have made for my fitness and overall health. Steve and the other trainers not only motivated me, but pushed me to do things that I never tried or thought of. They helped me with my form, movements, etc in all my lifts which in turn helped me progress much quicker and safer than I would have on my own. After seeing this progress and growth I couldn't help but sign up for more training and I am excited to see what the future holds with Archetype Strength!

This place was exactly what I needed. I finished the 6 week challenge losing 23 lbs total. I decided to keep going because I now enjoy how working out makes me feel. Steve is great and is also able to modify workouts on the fly for individuals who may have specific issues such as knee problems, back problems, etc...

I let an accident encourage me to stop working out... then I met Steve Olson and went to his gym and he was just the positive spark I needed to be encouraged to pump myself up and not stop! I gained an amazing, positive and forward-thinking group of individuals with one main idea in common, we want a healthy lifestyle! I received a simple nutrition plan to follow and from sticking to it, working out at least three days a week and focusing on the why, I was able to lose 6 pounds of fat in 6 weeks and I feel strong everyday. I have decided to continue my membership through Steve’s classes and am so in love with the group setting. I really needed that gym family to help keep me focused and true to myself. If you want to make a change towards a healthy lifestyle, come on in and let’s get you measured up and build the lifting foundation so you have the best results! See you soon!! 💪🏋️‍♀️🤗

I have yet to finish my time training at Archtype Strength, update to come!

So far my experience training at AS has been good! Just what i needed to get my year started with a bang, and to become a physically stronger version of myself. Steve is very strategic in his approach to, well-- everything! From business aspects to making sure his training is working for the individual, i am appreciative of his keen awareness to the details. Steve has created a great system of support and is an excellent motivator-- you WILL get strong. I have only been training a couple weeks and i am amazed at this new-found strength i've developed over such a short period of time! I also appreciate his team of trainers, and recommend going to classes led by Thad. He is personable, has spunk, and seems to know his craft and the mechanics of the body well.

I just completed the six week challenge and I can honestly say that I have never had such amazing results like this in all my years and years of working out and dieting. The meal plan was not your typical “diet” because it was not about eating less, but eating right. I never felt like I was starving myself, which makes this plan more realistic to keep up on a day to day basis. The workouts were definitely different than anything I was used to. Steve taught me how to push myself in a way I could never do on my own. This was not an easy challenge by any means, but that’s why it helped so much! Not only do you have access to Steve on a daily basis, you also a part of a community that helps you to stay honest and committed, even when you feel like giving up. If you’re truly ready to make a change and have the drive to do so, I would definitely join this program!

The team at Archetype Strength and Condition have done an amazing job, I have seen them transform an old stone cutting facility into a fantastic gym. The gym is equipped with top of the line premium weights, rowers, racks, bars, you name it. The workouts are challenging, every day I leave feeling accomplished knowing that I worked my ass off.

I have been to other 'premium' gyms in Raleigh and have to say that Archetype takes the cake. I finally feel like I'm getting what I paid for: custom workouts and hands-on coaching with fitness professionals.
