Sun Soo we adore the Mighty Tigers and Lions class! This intro class teaches 3-5 yr olds TKD but also develops their character to be leaders and demonstrate respect. It has helped my preschooler in every aspect of life. We will definitely be back!

Amazing school and summer camp in every way! The dedication to kids development is wonderful and the activities were so much fun. The amount of counselors giving very engaged and caring guidance was also impressive; these people live what they do and do it really well. We will be regulars.

There are so many reasons my family loves Sun Soo I can’t possibly list them all. Yes, this place is that impressive. Our 8 year old son has an endless amount of energy and loves to be busy. We were worried about finding a summer day camp for him this year as we are still recovering financially from Hurricane Helene but Sun Soo came to the rescue. Your child can go to a week of camp from 9a.m - 4 p.m (or from as early as 8.m to as late as 6 p.m for a small fee) that includes THREE off site field trips a week, healthy snacks, teen mentors, games, projects, martial arts, a presentation for families at the end of each week and that’s only a fraction of all the things they do! There are many camps that are half day or 5 hours a day that are much more expensive and while I’m sure they have positive things to offer, there’s no comparison to what Sun Soo offers.

Our son is working on self-confidence and having the courage to be a leader as opposed to a follower and the changes we’ve seen in him from a few weeks of camp along with starting taekwondo classes has been jaw dropping… I had to hold back tears at the last family presentation and I will NEVER forget when he yelled “yes sir!” loudly and proudly when his name was called to stand up in front of so many people. 6 months ago he would have been too shy to ever do that. He is tired out when he comes home, started asking what he can help with when I’m cooking or cleaning (he gladly learned how to swiffer a couple weekends ago- yes, swiffer!), has more control over his emotions when upset, is always excited to show us what he’s learned each week- and can be caught practicing his new skills almost every time I turn around, and makes new friends each week he’s there. He even asked me to make him a responsibility and chore chart! The staff to student/camper ratio is unmatched and the involvement of the teen assistants is such a special bonus because they serve as a constant example of what one can achieve with hard work, dedication and the supportive community within Sun Soo. 4 of the teen assistants were asked (on the spot!) to demonstrate some skills during one of the aforementioned presentations and say a little about themselves; ages ranged from 15 to 18, all 4 of them have at least a 4.2 GPA, black belt level, have other interests outside of school and Sun Soo that they also excel at like theatre, art and soccer for example, and carry themselves with kindness, strength and integrity. To say I was impressed would be putting it lightly.

Some of the field trips our son went on included the performing arts department at a local college, the Catawba Museum and Science Center and the Greenville Zoo just to name a few- really, a few! I could go on and on, but I will wrap things up with one more very important thing. Grandmaster Morris, the founder of Sun Soo, is a wonderful and kind hearted human being who has created something truly unique, remarkable and special at Sun Soo (which means “pure” by the way!) and we are so grateful for the programs he and his staff have created. Master Sabahive, the director of the summer camp program and after school program, always has a smile on his face and is so impressive in his ability to wrangle so many children of various ages quickly and with patience. We have not met one staff member we were not impressed with and we felt our son was in incredibly safe hands every day. Our son has not stopped begging to take martial arts classes with Sun Soo and take part in their 3 day a week option for their after school program in addition to playing soccer in the fall and flag football in the spring this upcoming school year. I am hoping to be able to take classes myself so I can learn how to protect myself and build strength.. Some kiddos would be embarrassed at the mere thought of their mother taking classes at the same place as them but my son was thrilled and has not stopped asking if I am going to. If that doesn’t speak volumes I don’t know what does! Asheville is lucky to be home to a place like Sun Soo.

My daughter is 12 years old and will be testing for her second degree black belt next week. She started practicing at Sun Soo when she was 3 1/2 and has grown in confidence and maturity and has found that place of belonging we all hope for our children. Grandmaster Morris expects every practitioner to embody the five tenets of Taekwon-Do: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control, and indomitable spirit not only into their TKD practice but also their everyday life. I’m truly thankful for Sun Soo and the magic that happens here every day.

We have been part of the Asheville Sun Soo family for seven months, with my 8 year old joining first, and my 7 year old joining a couple of months ago. When we first toured, I was a bit skeptical of the large class sizes, but have been consistently impressed with Sun Soo's ability to individualize and keep eyes on everyone's progress. There are always plenty of instructors per class, and no one falls through the cracks. Their standard of excellence is consistent and unmatched. My boys have had so much fun, gained confidence, and have been joyfully pushing their abilities. Students are expected to be respectful towards others, and my kids feel safe and supported while in class. Our time spent at Sun Soo is invaluable, and I know that the character building and personal development they're experiencing will carry forth for years to come. Grandmaster Morris has built a truly amazing dojang, and we're so appreciative of his entire teaching team - honestly, they're all great. Also, special shout out to Krisy at the front desk for always being so helpful, friendly and on top of everything!

My children just started 3 weeks ago and I am seeing small changes in their contributions to the family, attitude, self-confidence already.. The community of teachers and teen student teachers are becoming role models in our boys lives. I am excited and extremely grateful to be a part of what is happening in East Avl..Looking forward to watching them progress and grow with Sun Soo.

We absolutely love Sun Soo Martial Arts in Asheville! The quality of the staff is top-notch; they are incredibly responsive, accountable, and truly take the time to get to know each child individually. We always feel in the loop with their frequent updates and the amazing Friday performances that showcase everything the kids have learned.
The photos and slideshows they share are fantastic!

But what truly sets Sun Soo apart are the values they instill—self-control, perseverance, integrity, and courtesy. As parents, we now have a common language to reinforce these behaviors at home. It’s not just about martial arts; it’s about building life skills. Master Sabahive and the entire Sun Soo family live and breathe these values, and it shows in everything they do. If there’s one tiny downside, it’s that our commute is a bit longer now, from 8 to 12 minutes,
but it’s absolutely worth it for the positive impact we’ve seen in our child!

We started my 10 year old at Sun Soo after several months of bullying at school. Paired with significant anxiety and low confidence, he was shutting people out and we were worried for him. We toured a few different martial arts centers and after seeing them all, he chose sun soo. He liked the big bright open space and Master Marshall was able to connect with him during our tour. The first class was rough. He refused to get on the mat until Master Jaques came over to him and got onto his level to talk with him and welcome him in. He followed her to the mat and was soon all smiles. Fast forward 6 months and he is excelling not only at Taekwondo (he just made yellow-green) but is an A student and getting ready for middle school. His confidence has risen and he is making new friends. He still struggles with anxiety but the student and instructors at Sun Soo really have been amazing; welcoming him with no judgement and showing him that kindness is ever present. As a family, I feel we have found our people. My husband even recently signed up and is taking classes as well!
I highly recommend SunSoo! Sign up for a month, I promise you won’t regret it.

My son has been practicing at Sun Soo for 5 years and it is so much more than a place to learn martial Arts. Master Morris and his instructors focus on the importance of setting goals, striving for excellence, never giving up, being a leader and helping those in need. Over the years, I truly feel like Sun Soo has become an extension of our family. The environment is extraordinarily supportive and encouraging and that spirit is visible through everyone who attends classes here. My son has become an excellent martial artist, but more importantly he has learned life skills that has helped him become a better version of himself. Thank you Sun Soo team!

Our son has been attending both the afterschool program and Tae Kwon Do classes at Sun Soo Martial Arts, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the experience. The instructors and staff do an incredible job of not only teaching martial arts but also instilling strong character, discipline, and confidence in their students.

The afterschool program goes beyond just supervision—it actively encourages good habits, respect, and responsibility while also providing academic support. The structure and positive reinforcement at Sun Soo have had a noticeable impact on our son’s behavior and mindset, and we’re grateful for the values they emphasize.

If you’re looking for a place that truly cares about your child’s development both physically and mentally, Sun Soo Martial Arts is an excellent choice. Highly recommended!

There is no better summer program in Asheville or anywhere else than Sun Soo. We had an outstanding summer here, and so so so sad to have to return to Florida. My daughter is constantly asking my to check back if they have holiday break camps. The instructors are absolutely the best-- they not only teach the methodologies and help with gentle progress, they also expect good manners, and instill respectful behavior. My daughter who is super sensitive often said she felt treated well here, as the parents, teachers, and kids were respectful, polite and welcoming. Special shout out to Thabiti Sabahave (spelling) who is an inspiring leader, an outstanding instructor. Season Jacques is another wonderful instructor who leads by example.

10/10 recommend. Outstanding character building, technique for keeping my ADHD kid fully engaged, and for role models as leaders.

Our Sun Soo experience started with a week of summer camp for my son. He loved it, so we signed him up for lessons, and then my husband and I joined too. Sun Soo is such a wonderful and exceptional community. My son gets excellent martial arts instruction that doesn't just focus on techniques and belts, but also on developing character and maturity. He is surrounded by excellent teen role models (the teen instructor staff) in addition to the kind adult teachers. My husband and I didn't expect to become so involved in Sun Soo, but the adult classes are so engaging that we have caught up to our son's belt rank and are looking forward to all getting our black belts together someday. After the hurricane, Sun Soo opened up as quickly as possible to provide childcare, water and other supplies, a resource sharing hub, and a place to gather and process emotions together. This is a special community, and we look forward to being a part of it for years to come.

Our experience with Asheville Sun Soo Martial Arts
has been nothing short of amazing! As the parent of a special needs child, I was initially concerned about finding a supportive and inclusive environment for him to learn karate. From our very first visit, the instructors at Asheville Sun Soo Martial Arts went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and understood. They are patient, compassionate, and incredibly skilled at adapting their teaching methods to meet my child's unique needs.

The classes are structured but flexible, allowing my child to learn at his own pace without feeling pressured or overwhelmed. The instructors take the time to provide one-on-one attention when needed and are always ready with positive reinforcement that boosts his confidence. It’s clear that they genuinely care about each student, and they foster a sense of respect and camaraderie among all the kids.

He looks forward to each class, and we are so grateful to have found a place that truly values inclusion and celebrates every child’s unique strengths. I would highly recommend Asheville Sun Soo Martial Arts to any family looking for a supportive and nurturing martial arts environment!

I can't say enough about Sun Soo Martial Arts. They have been such a support before, during and I know after the flood. They opened their doors to take all after school program children, all day so that the children could have normalcy. They also did this at no extra cost. Amazing! Today my child went back to school and I know if Sun Soo didn't do that my child would have had very tough days. We are so thankful. They also have helped me with dropping off and picking up because my toddler can't go in the building. He has sensory sensitivities. They are caring and I am very grateful for all that they do. My daughter loves going to Sun Soo. She made wonderful friends. She tells me the staff reach out to the children to make sure they are doing ok. They also have Saturday events for the children with everything that has been canceled, it's so exciting for my daughter. The staff are doing Gods work. Master Sabahive is so personable, caring and a wonderful teacher. Miss Momma J. is exactly the same! The whole staff deserves an award. I don't know all the staff's names but they are recognized for sure. If you are thinking about signing your child up for Sun Soo activities or after school program do not hesitate because it will make a huge difference in your childs life like it has done mine. Forever grateful. #1 after school program in Asheville! Thank you Sun Soo & God bless WNC.

Sun Soo is a wonderful place to train whether as a solo practitioner, a family, an adult or a child, as a veteran of martial arts, or a first-timer. The quality of instruction is top-notch. Vision and knowledge, are communicated from the top and echoed by the teaching and administrative staff. Students at all ranks can be found helping one another review the curriculum before or after class. As someone who has practiced martial arts for over 20 years, this is the biggest school I have been a part of. However, individualized attention is received in every class from both instructors and black belts. I receive continuous feedback, gain confidence with each goal accomplished, have fun, and grow both on and off the mat. The school has developed and fostered a community that genuinely cares for one another.

I began my journey in June of 2023 at Sun Soo. I came in with very real existing back issues which I was quite afraid of interfering with the practice. I was told however that nothing I would do at Sun Soo would make things worse for me, but that all of the body mechanics involved with "responsible" day to day practice would in fact make me stronger. I want to clarify that the individual I spoke to was very skilled in body mechanics, muscle groups and is currently a 6th Degree Black Belt. He also took time to learn my highly individualized back issues. I am happy to say that since June and for the first time in over 25 years I have not had 1 flare up in my lower back. This is due to core strengthening in muscle groups that had been dormant for years. I've also been able to create more "space" in my body as a whole. While I don't speak for everyone with back issues, I can say that for me it was the best decision I had ever made in my life. At 48, I feel like I am in my 20's again. Beyond the back improvements I just feel stronger as a whole, more agile and healthier. Thank you Sun Soo!

Our 7 year old started sun soo a couple months ago and I can honestly say that we could not be more impressed! At first I was a little scared about the monthly tuition since kids can go through phases so fast but you really do get your moneys worth with the 3 classes a week and the ability to fit those days into your own schedule.

Our daughter was never a huge fan of extracurriculares but after begging us to try this she has really fallen in love with it and that is so good to see! I see the pride on her face when she learns a new skill or earns a new stripe. And the staff is incredible! Sun Soo is an amazing community, and has been such a positive part of my family’s well-being. The instructors and staff are the absolute best and you can tell they are so invested in helping you learn. We only started this year and have already made wonderful friends and look forward to class each week. You’ll find everyone is helping each other succeed, and it’s truly a unique and amazing place that Grandmaster Morris has created.

My partner and I both practice at Sun Soo. I started last Summer and immediately found it one of the most welcoming, diverse and community oriented martial arts schools I have ever encountered. Grandmaster Morris has done an amazing job creating a space for for adults and kids alike. The instructors are knowledgeable and skilled at teaching all levels of taekwondo. Though Sun Soo larger than other schools I have trained in, I always feel like I get individual attention when needed. It's been a foundational part of my self care. I love Sun Soo!

I started practicing here in March and I have been having an amazing time in a safe, educational, supportive, and fun environment. I highly recommend Sun Soo for anyone looking to start out their martial arts journey. The instructors are knowledgeable and experienced, but also friendly and patient with beginners like myself. I'm learning something new every day, not only from the instructors but also from fellow students in class. I am very grateful to have found such a positive and encouraging place!

My six yr old grandson started classes last Fall. It's been amazing to watch him grow not only in his martial arts skills, but in his character and confidence. This summer he attended their summer camp with every week offering more stories of adventures and new friendships made. I really appreciate their focus on offering kids opportunities to learn new things. He's playing chess now, and clearly I need to practice :-)
Sun Soo offers an encouraging and positive environment committed to helping each other become the best version of themselves.

We had a wonderful week of camp at Sun Soo. Our 6yr old loved all of the activities and the staff couldn’t have been better. In addition to martial arts instruction, they established the core Tae Kwon Do principles of caring and respect for yourself and others, self-discipline, and focus. They also did a variety of arts and crafts projects, had swimming days outdoors at a local creek, and even had a bookmobile come visit for some reading. This was our first experience with Sun Soo and martial arts in general, and we could not have been happier with how things went.

My daughter and I are new to Asheville and struggled when we first got here. I am a firm believer that it takes village to raise a child. Thankfully, I have found a village in Sun soo. She has attended the aftercare and summer programs. The staff has treated us like family and supported us in ways, that would have made this transition impossible without them. My daughter looks forward to going there everyday if nowhere else. How have I not reviewed this place yet! Sun Soo is the best after school program in Asheville. They are extremely professional and I absolutely trust them with my child. My child has been going to Sun Soo for more than 4 years now. She also practices there. Taekwondo has been a very positive part of her upbringing. They get great exercise and also learn respect, discipline, communication, patience and other critical life skills that help a person reach goals and be a good member of society. Belts are earned at Sun Soo after a lot of hard work and practice. I would absolutely recommend them for After School and Taekwondo.

Asheville sun soo Martial Arts is a fabulous place for the whole family. Myself and two of my children attend classes and have found ourselves a family we love. The way they teach taekwondo is so much more then just the art. There is so much eagerness to connect with the person on a deeper level. They are not there just to check off a list of abilities, but rather to help each person to do what they can do to there full potential. In such a loving way they are teaching skills that flow over into everyday life. To help you build character and to encourage you to step outside your comfort zone in a safe place. I have a child that has auditory processing disorder and vestibular difficulties. Classes for her have been more for her then just classes. They truly been therapy. They not only physically and mentally help her, but they really build her up emotionally. My youngest child having a huge amount of energy has learned to really focus and follow directions and to give is full effort, while being aloud to have an outlet to engaged his full energy in a structured way. For myself as a stay at home mom I have found a way to get and stay healthy physically but also have the emotional outlet of community. Fellowship with others have been so nice and really help take care of myself. You will find a family where everyone is welcome and will be made to feel welcome.

A lot of people in Asheville area have heard about Sun Soo, but few realize it is one of the best Taekwondo schools in the world - that’s right, on a global level. There are only a few 8th degree Black Belts who actively teach, and Grandmaster Morris is one of them. He has developed a unique teaching approach which combines exceptional martial arts instruction with techniques that help kid and adult students develop their full human potential. Unanimous 5 star reviews you can see here on Google are a testament to that.

The school runs like clockwork, has a very flexible schedule that fits even the busiest of families and individuals, and the community is incredible. Being able to learn not only from the head of the school, but from its other amazing instructors and your partners in class at all belt levels is a very special experience. You will be amazed at how much what you learn on the mat can be transferred into your personal life and that of your kids, in areas that have nothing to do with Taekwondo.

The name of the school translates as “Pure Spirit”, and this is exactly the energy you are going to feel when you join Sun Soo. If you want to set off on a unique, world-class martial arts and human development journey, Sun Soo is truly the best place to start.

I cannot say enough good things about Sun Soo. Our son has been practicing for two years now. He has gained so much since starting here. His manners, his willingness to jump in and help at home and at school, his kindness towards his peers (especially if he notices someone bullying somebody), we can attribute a lot of that to Sun Soo and the lessons they teach here.

We have definitely seen a confidence boost, especially after he tests for higher belts. We couldn’t have picked a better fit for him. We love the teen instructors, as he looks up to them and aspires to be one one day. The instructors are all fantastic as well. They are caring and kind, but also don’t let the kids give up. They are so encouraging, especially when there is a challenging moment. I am so glad we decided to sign our son up two years ago. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for him at Sun Soo!

If there is one extracurricular activity in the greater Asheville area that you, or perhaps more specifically your child, should be engaged in - it is, without question, Asheville Sun Soo Martial Arts.

While there is unparalleled benefit for martial arts practitioners of all ages, the structure (specifically around the youth taekwondo program) is so well thought-out that, seemingly by default, Sun Soo practitioners are receiving life skills concurrently with their taekwondo martial arts education. If to sum the experience in one phrase (again, specific to the youth program) it would be ‘Life Coaching for the Leaders of Tomorrow’.

As an older parent, and one that has had a child in the Sun Soo taekwondo program for just over six years, it has afforded me the opportunity to gauge my child’s progress, not only in terms of martial arts, but also with respect to maturity, discipline, commitment and interpersonal skills/interaction. To watch the positive growth in one’s child, the pushing of athletic boundaries as well as the incremental increase in overall confidence is something that I, as a parent, am eternally grateful to experience and am elated that my child’s participation in the Asheville Sun Soo Martial Arts program has afforded my family this opportunity.

There are, undoubtedly, many reasons why one would choose a martial arts program, ranging from athleticism to self-defense, etc. However, to receive that training as a base-line or starting point, and then be able to experience the growth of personal values, accomplishments, and lifetime-transcending attributes such as character, honor, attention to detail and a commitment to excellence as part of one’s martial arts journey at Sun Soo, is truly a rare find in today’s world!

As nothing worth doing is ever easy, the Sun Soo martial arts program, in my opinion, is designed in such a way as to meet the individual practitioner half-way – meaning the practitioner approaches their practice with an open mind and a dedicated pursuit to being the best they personally can be, and the Sun Soo curriculum will provide the remainder of required resources to include a safe and structured learning environment, positive reinforcement, and a “family” community culture interwoven thru all aspects of the martial arts experience, which has proven to greatly enhance the prospects of continued and lasting success.

With the expert instructor staff, along with a variety of offerings (after-school program, summer camps, etc.) and tiered martial arts programs for family members of all ages, I wholeheartedly stand behind my recommendation that Asheville Sun Soo Martial Arts is not only “Best in Class”, but “The Best”, period. To have the fortune of residing within the Greater Asheville area and not having engaged in the Asheville Sun Soo Martial Arts experience (either for yourself or your child/children) would truly have been a shame. 5 stars! Zero doubt!

Highly recommended. The staff are professional and caring, and it’s obvious they love what they do. Students feel welcome immediately, and Sun Soo is run so efficiently that even though there are many students in any given class, each of them receives attention and guidance, and no one gets lost in the shuffle. They alternate between individual work, group work, partnered work, forms, one-steps, and free sparring, so there’s always something engaging happening and opportunities to practice and observe. If I could give this place a million stars, it wouldn’t even be a fraction of what it deserves. There aren’t enough good things to say about Sun Soo, Grand Master Morris, the whole ENTIRE Sun Soo team and the environment they’ve cultivated there. If you want your kids to thrive physically, mentally, emotionally and otherwise, I strongly encourage enrolling them here and no where else! My boys, 10 & 12, were on the brink of being sent to military school. I’m a single mom of 3 with a full time career, no family nearby, much help or male influences. But who knew I didn’t even need them when I have SunSoo and the influence that they’ve had on my boys. In just 2 months, my boys bounced back and CHOSE to be better versions of themselves. They adopted the traits exemplified in the Sun Soo community surrounding them, and were taught early on that “real martial artists are mentally strong just as they are physically strong, they’re kind to everyone, they have self control, integrity and they never ever disrespect anyone; and sure enough, my boys make efforts daily to embody those characteristics more and more each day. This is a community of people who genuinely care about who they are AND who they’ll become and I couldn’t thank them enough. Eternal love and gratitude for this place!

My 6 year old daughter has been in the after school program at Sun Soo for approximately 5 months now and I have been very pleased. We left our previous after school program because we thought the supervision of children was lax. Not the case at Sun Soo- they are very attentive to what is going on in the "classroom" and help my child complete school related tasks. They are also careful to have the older children in the program support the younger kids. My daughter is also taking taekwondo classes and it has been very good for her confidence and overall gross motor skills. Heads up, this is a long review…I have a lot to say :-)
Our experience has been fantastic and exceeded our expectations by heaps and bounds. My husband, son and I have been at Sun Soo since the end of October ‘21. We had no idea what to expect - martial arts was completely new to all of us.
Our son was lacking a bit in the respect/ discipline departments, so I clicked an online link for a sign-up special at another martial arts school in the area (should have called Sun Soo right then). We signed him up at the other school, but I had buyer’s remorse the minute we left the building. I felt swindled by their technique of getting you to sign up for a whole year before we really knew what it was all about. They had a a small facility and mat, and the overall feeling while being there was “okay”. My husband and I had toyed with the idea to start as well, but that facility had just one adult class a week, so that wasn’t going to fly for us. Their atmosphere was also definitely aimed toward kids.
Anyway, feeling uncomfortable and unsettled about the situation, I called Sun Soo (I should have done so to begin with) and chatted with Grand Master Morris. Upon first stepping into sun Soo, I knew we had found the right place for our family. Now I will tell you, joining at the age of 36, we felt like asparagus spears jumping around on the mat for the first several classes. My husband and I had never practiced anything even close to Taekwondo. It is of course a great physical challenge to the body during class, but to me it is more of a mental challenge: to learn proper stances, kicks, punches, forms, etc., etc., etc. It is fast-paced but we never feel out-of-place…it’s okay to make mistakes (we’re currently still making lots of them ;-), that’s how we continually learn. I am an individual that despises any kind of attention; I have a fear of being noticed for any reason…so forgetting my stances and forms is a daily occurrence for me. Until it has become muscle memory, you just have to push through and continually practice. I thoroughly enjoy the challenge; it has taught me to work with my mind instead of fighting against the traits that need some work (confidence and attention for example!). After some classes we still walk away feeling like a slinky piece of asparagus…there is so much still to learn - but that’s the fun part! Other times we walk out feeling like we have super powers, having just conquered a new form. The differing levels of experience and accomplishments amongst the practitioners is truly humbling. They all started out like us as white belts (at varying ages) and are genuinely happy and excited to help us succeed; we’ve made some good friends over the last few months. An awesome, super-supportive atmosphere with staff and instructors that actually love what they do! Most of the staff have been there for several years - it’s a true sign that Master Morris has created and continues to run a superb business and gathering place for all his practitioners and staff.
Our son is 7.5 and he’s advanced enough to join the adult/family class, so the three of us are able to practice together in the evenings. He still likes to join the kids class now and then, but it’s such a cool experience to have the 3 of us working out together. The discipline, concentration and focus required for class has helped him immensely - he has gained a whole new respect for those around him. And no more complaining about his chores at home! Our 5 year old son loves watching us during classes as well; it has become a routine for him. He’s a bit shy; has said he’ll be ready to join when he’s 6. :-) I know it will boost his confidence in a big way.
I can't say enough good things. I envision our whole family enjoying Sun Soo’s environment for years to come. If you’re on the fence, I challenge you to join and see what it’s all about. And stay for more than just a few classes - you’ll experience the great community on the mat and have a solid sense of all that you can accomplish with your body and mind.

My days at Asheville Sun Soo start out wonderfully as soon as I walk through the door. The staff is welcoming and friendly every single day. I feel like my child is getting an excellent experience here each time he comes. There’s always plenty of teachers available to make sure each child is learning and paying attention to what’s being taught. They’re always very informative about everything you need or want to know and keep all their information available at all times. My son is learning good manners, responsibility as well as how to protect himself. I would recommend Asheville Sun Soo to anyone who is looking for a great place for their child or themselves to learn many things that will help you grow as a person and be better.

The teachers and students at Sun Soo are awesome! My son has been a student since 2016 when he was 4 and is now Green Blue Belt! He started in the mighty tigers which is their young kids program. He has gained much insight into life and discpline though the program. The instructors are tough but fair and very caring at heart. Highly recomended for any age.

As an adult who recently started out on the martial arts journey, I highly recommend checking out Sun Soo to anyone who's on the fence about trying it out. You'll find the staff, instructors, and the other participants to be friendly, encouraging, patient, supportive and welcoming. Every class I learn something new, have opportunities to grow physically and mentally, and have the benefit of being surrounded by an abundance of skill -- you continually have the opportunity to learn from a really robust skill set across the Sun Soo community. I was hooked from the first class. Highly recommend!!!

Sun Soo has exceeded our family’s expectations in every way. Its leaders are kind, caring, and consistent martial arts teachers. Above all, Sun Soo genuinely prioritizes safety and wellness. My time at Sun Soo watching my son’s classes, and his peers and senior class mates test for advancement are inspirational. Sun Soo teaches manners, integrity, perseverance and discipline.

We feel safe as a family at Sun Soo and encourage anyone who is curious about martial arts to meet with Master Morris. Our enrollment at Sun Soo has been the best investment we have made in our child.

I’ve started my practice here without expectations - However, Sun Soo has set a high bar and has taught me to demand the best from myself. They are incredibly inclusive, make each class engaging/challenging, and everyone is fun and thoughtful when teaching. I highly recommend!

Whether you are completely new to martial arts or already have experience, you can thrive at Sun Soo. Whatever gender, age, or physical ability, you can thrive here.

I have been practicing Tae Kwon Do (and a little Jujitsu) at Sun Soo for years. My three children began their own life-long practices here, as well. My kids, now all grown and on their own, were better prepared for the world because of all they learned and experienced at Sun Soo.

Now I'm nearly 59 years old and I'm still at it. Here's why:

Community: I like the healthy balance of men and women, boys and girls, and I like the family atmosphere.
Instruction: The instruction is well thought out and systematized to incrementally build a solid foundation of skills.
Facility: The space is amazing, well lighted, well ventilated, and spacious enough to accommodate even large classes comfortably.
Staff: The very professional staff is constantly looking for ways to improve, optimize, and evolve.
Spirit: The vibe at Sun Soo is alive, fun, and respectful. I never hear the instructors or staff building the school up by tearing another school down. They focus on the positive and they get down to business.

Here's my main Take-Away from my time at Sun Soo:
Aside from learning a set of physical skills that keeps me safe and in the best shape of my life, I have learned to tell the difference between my "comfort zone" and my "familiarity zone." I am no longer frightened of the unfamiliar. These days I've learned to embrace it. All thanks to my martial arts practice at Sun Soo.

We have both of our kids in classes here and we love it, the kids love it. It is such a great place for children to not only learn self defense, they also learn manners, respect, all while building confidence and making new friends. It is such a healthy environment. They also offer after school and summer programs that we will also be utilizing.

Our 7 year old is new to Sun Soo and loves it already! He is eager to go to all lessons and we are already seeing him put courtesy and self-control into practice at home! The instructors are patient, the right amount of firm and direct, and set clear high, yet reasonable, standards. Thank you!

Let me start by saying that I love practicing martial arts here. The staff are wonderful people who will both challenge and encourage you to do your best. Also, I’ve formed some friendships with my fellow martial artists that are now cherished greatly. It’s a wonderful place to come and get some exercise, learn self defense and be around really wonderful people. I highly recommend Asheville Sun Soo.

I started an adult martial arts practice with my daughter at Sun soo. I have found that my experience here has transformed both of our lives. Initially I didn't feel that I had time with my busy schedule and I consciously made time and it has paid off more than I could have known. It has helped me focus and improve every aspect of my life. Master Morris is a truly gifted teacher and mentor. He has helped me through all of the growing pains of starting this at the age of 40.
This practice and martial arts studio is one of the true treasures of Asheville. It is a home, a practice and a meditation all in one. I would highly recommend this studio and community to anyone wanting to start an adult martial arts practice. It is a loving and caring atmosphere to begin something like this. Hope to see you on the mat.

Our daughter has been involved with Sun Soo for four years. At times she has challenges with focus and strong will. The instructors and staff do amazing job using the practice of Martial Arts as a holistic approach to life. Not only are they focused on the technique, but also what it means to be a martial artist in the community as a whole.

In addition, their handling of classes during the pandemic was second to none. They pivoted quickly into a method of teaching and instruction that was safe for all.

Sun Soo is one of those rare extraordinary places where a deep inspiration remains the primary motivation for its existence. It is martial arts, but it’s so much deeper than that. If you align with the core values being practiced here, namely courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and an indomitable spirit, you’ll find kindred spirits to support and encourage you and/or your child in the commitment to be more excellent. We are so grateful to Master Morris and the rest of the Sun Soo community that makes this magic possible.

I’m grandma and tho I don’t see Everything that goes on, I will say that after my grandson was out for3 weeks due to a non- sunsoo injury, I saw a big change in attitude and behavior and manners —I think because of missing the regular activity, structure and consistency offered at sunsoo.
These instructors are professional and give such exceptional experience for these kids! Extraordinarily impressive group!

My son has been a student at Sun Soo for over a year now. I love this school! There are so many reasons but my number one reason is the Teen Instructors. They have had a positive impact on my son by being a role model in his martial arts practice, a role model in social situations and a role model in respect and manners. I often see them setting the example and he follows because they are cool. (Mom and Dad just sound like a broken record... But these cool people I will listen to!)

The school continues to instill confidence, courtesy and integrity in his everyday. I appreciate the safe COVID environment Sun Soo provides as well. The internal incentive they create for their younger practitioners is amazing and really works. Expectations are clear and they realize their goals are in reach!

Aside from the Teen Instructors the staff and community are helpful, professional and welcoming. I love being a part of this community.

I couldn’t be happier with my experience at Asheville Sun Soo. The owner, Master Tony Morris, is a phenomenal person who brings out the best in every single student (he also knows every single student, out of hundreds, by name). His positive attitude and expectation of excellence filters down through each staff member and to each participant. The classes are physically and mentally stimulating, and have given me something new and exciting to work towards in my life. The school is top notch- extremely clean, organized, and offers many perks like after school care and summer camps for kids. I plan to continue practicing at Sun Soo for many years to come!!!

Master Tony and all the staff at Sun Soo are some of the nicest, most knowledgeable and professional staff I have encountered in many years. Our family has been attending classes at Sun Soo for a couple of years. We recommend them for several reasons: the classes are well structured, the staff is helpful and friendly, and our kids learn principles that help them in their practice and in the real world. Our children are learning about courtesy, integrity, perservance, and self control which are life long skills. We love that our family has an activity that each child can practice independently and at the same time be part of a great community.

My son has been practicing at Asheville Sun Soo for four years. I have always been impressed by how the school balances teaching physical skills with personal growth - self-discipline, courtesy on and off the mat, positive attitudes, kindness, confidence, integrity. Grandmaster Morris and his instructors set clear expectations for the kids, and they hold them to those expectations in a caring and supportive way that really fosters a culture of respect. Every member of their team is professional and positive, but most importantly you can see that they love what they are doing.

But what really sold me on Sun Soo so much that we purchased a special five year membership? Attending the testing sessions and seeing so many students who have grown through the program for seven, eight, ten years or more. There are teen instructors who started in kindergarten, parents and children who practice together, and students of all ages. I've seen many of the same faces for all the time we've attended and that really speaks to the sense of community at Asheville Sun Soo. They are helping all their students young and old grow into their best selves.

Supporting and witnessing our granddaughter's growth and development at Asheville Sun Soo has truly been a rewarding and fulfilling experience for me and my wife. I can't say enough about the gratitude we feel toward Master Morris and his ENTIRE staff for their dedication and talent in inspiring children [and adults] to grow their skills in every aspect of their lives. Reinforcing the values of
respect, mental and physical discipline, teamwork, and self defense consistently inspire confidence and courage with students at all levels. The staff from the top down are friendly, knowledgeable, caring, and, always maintain a positive, productive environment.
We feel blessed that our granddaughter is part of this amazing community!
