Extremely crowded ...no where to work out. DO NOT SEND YOURS SONS TO THE MENS LOCKER ROOM ALONE AND ESPECIALLY THE SAUNA!!! I only use coed saunas because of having to grow up going here. Don't leave anything in a locker overnight. They will cut it and go through your stuff. I learned to play basketball and swim here when I was 5. It's the only courts only reason why. This place sucks.

The YMCA has the equipment I need, classes, a pool, air conditioning, pickle-ball, basketball, parking, friendly staff who are welcoming, itβs clean, the machines and building are maintained. Only negative is, everyone is compacted into one room and the locker room is a maze and just old. The person who keeps the flowers and other plants looking great deserves a shout out too! They are beautiful! I love the YMCA!

20 years ago, this was the spot. Now, you wait in line for machines (on which people sit with their phones), wait in line for a swim lane (or share with men lacking special awareness- always men!), wait in line for the sauna (in which everyone talks loudly). Itβs AWFUL. Only bright spot is the sweet front desk staff- although they have no idea how crowded it is and donβt enforce any kind of shared space etiquette. Guys just stop with new memberships for like a month! Please! And focus instead on the quality of the experience for current members. Love the Yβs mission but gosh has this place gone downhill. These are solvable issues- and that keeps me hopeful.

Your Bike rack is a Gem. I love accessing places of interest on my bicycle. What if all the folks who biked to the Y, shared their routes, then we traced those routes on a map and discovered the absolute safest way to navigate to the Y from our homes. This would put more of us on safer roads and we could honor each other during our trips to the Downtown YMCA with a smile, or ring the bike bell.

Disappointed that the steam rooms have been closed for over a week with no explanation or expected re-open date. I heard that the Y is "negotiating" with the supplier of the failed equipment about who is going to pay for the replacement.

So my daughter went to get her BMI for the Air force paper she needs and the person who is suppose to do it did not feel like doing it that I'll have to come back . I understand if he was busy .but not wanting to do it just because he don't feel like it is unacceptable..that's a horrible response and he needs to start doing the job he is hired to do in the 1st place. Maybe hire someone else to do the job. Do better

I went in with a member to look around and see if it was anything I was interested in (joining). I was quickly reminded why I donβt like big corporate driven gyms. The woman at the desk couldnβt have been more unfriendly and short with us. I doubt they know what true community driven experience is about.

The Y is not just a gym, it's a community. I have made good friends with similar interests. The staff is top notch and knowledgeable, especially Sharon and Babette at the front desk, and Greg, Dee, and Cici (among others) of the aquatics staff. There are great yoga and exercise classes to suit just about any situation. To really get your money's worth, try some of them, you'll meet great people and really appreciate the value of your membership. I'm not an actor nor a paid endorsement representative. I'm a member and I really love the Y.

The Y is a wonderful place, great staff, people, and caring individuals. My biggest challenge is this location's pool schedule. It is hard for 8-5 jobs to get a swim in around both swim lessons and the swim team, as the entire pool shuts down for about two hours. This is very frustrating especially in the middle of a work out. I may have to go to a different location for the pool during the week, which is fine. Othen then the pool schedule, it is great!

In the last few weeks have been working with my new personal trainer, and dare I say friend, Julie! I have been in decent shape most of my life and being an athlete since I was a kiddo, but I love the experience that Julie is providing. She is a fantastic trainer! She has had different exercises to help me target weak areas, keeping track of my abilities, and pushing me past what I think I am capable of completing. She has really been helpful with my exercise and diet goals outside of teaining sessions too. She has talked me through diet goals that make sense for me, and sends me workouts that will help me reach my goals faster. I really didn't think I'd get that much out of a personal trainer when I started. You know the thought; they're just going to tell me to do the same thing I've been doing, but I am a convert for sure. I've been truly enjoying my personal trainer experience and look forward to my sessions each week!

Very mid. The saunas and steam room are always closing 1hr to 30 min before close. They don't stay open that late either. Everything here is really dated. Holes in walls, things falling apart or in disrepair. The gym equipment is on the fritz with rep counters out of batteries, treadmills and stair masters out of order.

This is a great location with a charismatic, helpful, and respectful staff. All the equipment and amenities you need to make small or big changes to your wellness routine are at arms reach. The staff is warm and welcoming, the gym and equipment are well kept, and the reps are knowledgeable, attentive, and eager to help you get the most out of your experience. They also have a variety of relevant and engaging classes and programs. Happy to be here!
Update 9/6/2024
Oddly, soon after posting this wonderful review of what started as a warm and wonderful relationship with the center, I began having problems within the facility, first with members constantly hovering over me in a bully-like fashion in the locker room and then with staff treating me poorly. I voiced my concern to management as a woman and physician who was focused on an important career phase and received discriminating treatment from more than one staff member since posting my first review intensifying over the last few weeks. It didnβt take a rocket scientist to figure out the connection between what I experienced in the locker room and the treatment I began receiving from the staff that slowly snowballed into something much more concerning. The situation worsened. I was then stalked and even recorded by staff members on different occasions which I found to be completely inappropriate and disrespectful, two of them whose names are Bobbet and Jen. Ironically, Jen is part of the local healing community. Despite me having escalated the issue that obviously created a pinch in my workflow and wellness routine, I was unheard. This created an even more serious concern and made me question the ethical practices of the facility and organization as a whole. These occurrences and my concerns were all voiced along the way every time something occurred over the last few months up to now no one did anything about it, not even show honest concern with the exception of one wonderful person, Eric Barsotti.
It is ironic how my good intentions turned into a dangerous circumstance and that this business supposedly exists for the wellbeing of others. If I could remove all my stars for this experience I would. From a humanitarian standpoint, this was incredibly disappointing and on principle alone, I cannot recommend this organization.

It was a horrible experience. They couldnβt find my name in the system and that took about tens mins, which is crazy considering at ever other I get in in under 2 mins flat.
Then we get into the gym and are shooting the basketball before we go swimming when a worker comes up and tells us that we canβt shoot the ball because it could hurt other people if they trip on the ball ππ€. And let it be known that others were in there playing games where they hit a ball with paddles, which is much more dangerous than through a ball in the corner.
Then we try to go swimming. Before we go down the stairs we ask a worker where we can change and where the pool is, just like we told the front desk lady we would, and after we get completely dressed and get to the pool a worker at the pool tells up we canβt swim either. I wonβt be returning, it was just horrible

I love everything about the YMCA, especially the Woodfin location where I work out. It doesn't have a pool, and it certainly is short of space. But it does have a "community" feel that makes it special. It's like the Cheers of YMCAs. Everybody knows your name!
The front desk people are always friendly and welcoming. The instructors and personal trainers are great. Jessica Medlin does a great job juggling the various class schedules. I could go on and on.

Downtown Asheville YMCA is never a regret. They have literally everything, except... I'll explain. No hot tub. For leg day no hack squat or calve machines, just leg press. They have sauna steamer for locker room. They have most machines, cables and free weights, squat racks and bench presses. Largest dumbbell was 105 pounds, I was able to use it for Dumbbell Flat Bench Pullovers for Chest and Back training that day. The basketball courts and pools are well above par. The staff is off the charts friendly and into their careers.

I love the YMCA in downtown Asheville! I especially love personal training as it motivates and encourages me. Iβm much stronger and more capable than I was a year ago. I like how many rooms there are too, so I can often find an uncrowded space to do my solo workouts in. I get gym anxiety so this is the biggest perk to me. Staff are always great, with enthusiastic and careful certified instructors.
I started doing HIIT, athletic conditioning, TRX and sometimes yoga and pilates classes three times per week in 2015 and LOVE the motivation that group classes give me to show up and work really hard. What i like most is how i feel at the end of class having done what i need to do!

What do I love about the YMCA? Smiling faces! Inclusive programming and pricing! Ever since I moved to Western North Carolina 20 years ago, I have been involved with the YMCA. As a mother of 8, the family plans were my go to, and this meant that I could bring my children to swim at the Corpening Y in Marion when they were little. Now that they are all grown up and we live in Swannanoa, we enjoy the many facilities and programs on this side of the mountain. I am truly grateful for all that the Y has to offer! - Melissa Henry

Itβs great that there is a dedicated lap pool as well as a secondary pool for the lessons and independent exercise. The front desk team strives to get to know the membership base and give them the best experience possible.

My wife and I enjoy the diversity of classes - Yoga, Zumba, Groove, and TRX that the Y offers. In our retirement we have come to appreciate how all forms of exercise improve our quality of life. I attend Y classes 5-6 times per week; my wife does classes 3 times a week and on most of those she also does weight machines.

I come to this ymca almost everyday and almost always have a good experience. They have some very nice staff, however some of the gym equipment is outdated and some newer machines should be implemented. Overall I give it a good 4/5
