I loved this place until they hired a new manager/associate that stared at me for no reason. Even after being told by me and staff to stop--it continued. I felt so uncomfortable that I went elsewhere to work out. It is sad but No one likes going to a GYM of all places and being stared at.

Been here in Clt for a little over 7yrs, just decided to join the Y. Wow‼️ sooooo many different equipment machines to try out. And the outside trail(track) is really awesome, they also have an indoor track that I will have to try. Why, go to these other expensive places when you can join the Y in your own area. And another thing if you don't know how to work some of the equipment they have staff walking around to give you a a short tutorial.✌🏾

Was in the area for an appointment and chose Brace because it was right around the corner while walking in I saw signs saying all are welcome here but when I tell you the signs were kinda misleading. The person that checked me in was fine it was the lifeguard on duty. First thing he said to me was that I needed a reservation to swim. That I could but he may have to cut my swim short if someone with a reservation needed the lane? Mind you there were lanes available. I have nation wide membership and have to use Y’s in other states and have never encountered this issue. It’s first come first served. You might say that if that’s the policy but a gym is for convenience and having empty lanes not being utilized is not a great system. I didn’t feel welcome at all. There is always anxiety related to going to a place you have not been before and when those fears are realized uncomfortable. I get that you might have peak hours but allow for a generic flow. I won’t recommend.

I want to recognize, Lori. She was so warm and welcoming while doing me and my mother's body composition scan. She conducted a thorough assessment and provided excellent feedback. My mother and I both deal with body dysmorphia and she was super reassuring while providing the education on how to reach our goals. She pointed out the positives and spoke kindly on our areas of improvement. As a registered nurse, I felt she had expert level knowledge and the type of empathy every YMCA employee should have while working with the general public. Thank you, Lori!

The app is STILL not working properly. I have done ALL the things to fix it including reporting the errors to the IT team. I cannot reserve lanes or join classes using the app or online platform due to these errors. It has been at least 3 weeks of frustration.

I came to this location today for the second time and was absolutely WOW’d by ((NIKKI)) the Team Member at registration! This refreshing soul greeted me in confusion and offered instant clarity! I was determined today to use my mobile app and this being “No Country for Old Men” I needed her assistance! Initially I wasn’t gonna come in today… I sat in my jeep thinking, I’m just gonna go take a nap or go fishing. Maaaaaaan I’m so glad I came in, she took the time to listen to my concerns and enlighten me on sooooo many services the Y has to offer which I had NO CLUE OF!! I gotta tell ya, EVERYONE needs a Nikki in their life and I’m glad to have met such a beautiful spirited person! I guess that just goes to show how you never know how your personality will affect the next person! God is FATHER and I’m pretty darn sure THAT MAKES US ALL FAMILY!! I recently visited Brace Family YMCA’s outdoor pool as a Nation Wide Member while in North Carolina visiting my daughter. The outdoor pool is great and has lots of fun features. We had lots of fun. The life guards are great at their jobs and very friendly. Just know if you have a child with the expectation of going down the 2 larger water slides. They will need to pass a quick safety swim test. They will need to be able to swim the length of the pool, float on stomach, float on back, and tread water for 1 minute. Also they do an adult only swim every hour at the last 10 minutes of the hour.

Today, they received 1 star. I waited 45 minutes to receive no answers. Given a business card for the Membership Director, Isaiah Burgess, and the phone number doesn't even work.

A simple request of what my membership includes in writing and no one can provide me with one, nor can anyone show me where it is online. I wanted to know how many guest passes my membership includes in writing and no one can show me in writing. Said they have been going through changes and now it's only 1 a year, when previously, you were allotted a certain amount. My insurance is being billed monthly for this membership that they cannot provide details about.

This organization prides itself on the Christian beliefs, but runs a very shady organization. Being told, I'm not the only one that is upset, is not what I want to hear from the onsite Saturday Manager. She said if she knew where it was, she would tell me and then walked away to talk with other staff.

I had a very disappointing experience trying to cancel my YMCA membership at the 3127 Wedington Rd location. I spoke with the membership director, Isaiah Burgess, and unfortunately, I did not receive any help. Instead of addressing my concerns directly, she chose to communicate through another staff member and told me that I had to drive 40 minutes to the location where I originally signed up to cancel my membership.

This approach felt unprofessional and inconsiderate, especially since I had all my identification and account details with me. She could have easily assisted by making a phone call to the other location or handling the cancellation in a more efficient way. Instead, I was left feeling frustrated and unsupported. I expect better service and professionalism from an organization like the YMCA

They don't care very much about their members. Don't keep up with equipment repairs and replacements. Change hours for holidays unnecessarily and don't update their public web site. Not enough squat racks but decent layout. More benches than Harris. Sauna is not as hot as Harris (average of ten degrees cooler) but the inside is bigger and less dingy/newer.

The staff here are super nice as most locations.

UPDATE SEPT 2024: This place now has the most consistently hot sauna in the area typically around 170 degrees (after the Harris sauna renovation that made it 30 degrees colder!).

I went to the pool couple of times at different locations with my kids and we couldn’t do anything there’s so many rules! The lifeguards are EXTREMELY rude and impatient. It’s worth so much more to go to Carowinds pools and have their season pass than a membership here. I never give bad reviews on anything I just let it go I completely understand the no running around the pool or splashing other people, rules like that is reasonable but all the ymca pools are extremely strict your kid won’t be able to run or jump inside a 2 ft splash pad, they also yell at you if you let your kids underwater for more than a few seconds, and so many rules like that. the lifeguards will yell at your kids all the time! I just hate seeing a place designed for kids and they cut all the fun and don’t let kids be kids.

Fun place during summer for kids who don't have a community pool in their neighborhood! There are a few zones. Kiddy pool for babies, toddler area, and older kids pool with slides. There are nice restrooms and changing rooms, vending machine with snacks, a designated area for eating at tables if you bring your own food, plenty of parking. If you are not a member, it's $10/day for kids under 17 y.o, 18 y.o+ is $20/day

They are very nice facilities and they’re very clean. The staff is a little abrasive. I’m very hesitant about doing a review off one or even two experiences I like going to places several times to see what the average feel is.

Unfortunately, because the staff has been a little bit abrasive, we’ve decided that we are going to go to a more friendly place.

This is a bad review, it’s an honest one like all of my others so I don’t want people to get the bad impression that this is not a good safe, clean place to go because it is.

As a very hard-working Man, I only take on monthly liabilities from places that make me feel warm and fuzzy, and make me not regret one percent signing up for the commitment!

After several conversations in the way, I didn’t feel that my message was getting across to a few people that truly at their core were not paying attention or putting value to repeat business as employees and that’s a problem !

It’s only a problem that some people recognize it cannot be repaired, and people have permanently steered away from doing business with the entities that they work for!

As I know, being a small business owner, myself employees will make a business and at the end of the day you can’t expect them to care as much as the people who are in charge and understand that what’s good for the goose is good for the gander !

It might be a small amount of a monthly membership fee in general terms, but that money comes out of my bank account every month like clockwork, almost down to the exact time every month !

So that’s my part and I do my part but when I show up and not just get friendly smiles, I get an attitude almost as if they’re doing something special for me. I have a big problem with that!

The fact that I’m writing this review and giving the owners who I’m sure I have not had the privilege of interacting with a chance to really identify what maybe not just my experiences, but other patrons, and if it doesn’t change, then this business will suffer irreparable damage!

They don't care if irresponsible members like this one parks on 2 spots at the only shady side of the parking lot on the hottest summer day at 11:45 am before they even open the pool. Shame on the YMCA on not calling the police to issue a parking violation ticket to this bad citizen. I was at gate behind the offenders and reported to the staff when they opened and they did nothing after I pointed at the owner of the car and showed the picture of the license plate and where the car was at. Shame on you.

Was using this YMCA to help keep me in shape between semi-professional and professional basketball jobs. Things were pretty decent until the week of April 10 2023. I had scheduled workouts that I put myself on at 5 am a day this week. A younger guy at the front was working up there by himself. Being that I travel I have that type of nationwide status at any Y I go to. Normally, at any other YMCA and even in Nashville TN Memphis TN and even a Y in SC, if they can’t find me in the system they ask for my birthday to look me up. This younger guy asked me to write down my address and then ironically said “ if you have any questions let me know”. All of this set off an alarm in me and even upon telling one of the other employees an older lady she agreed it was weird. I then spoke to management telling him I had been asked for my phone number once, then my address once and my birthday twice. And mind you I had already been using this Y for the whole week before. It seems to me trying to get this different information and more so the address just to try and instigate something.

Everyone who is employed by an employer should be trained to know exact protocol for all situations or even given a manual to follow so things like this don’t happen.

I am aware after visiting a plethora of YMCA’s in and outside of the Carolina’s that the protocol is to ask for the birthday.

Even if the system is down that would check nationwide members the proper protocol is to ask for the birthday.
