I would like to commend the facility, the staff and for me personally my trainer Ciaran De Yoe. I was desperate for help when I found this fitness facility. I first spoke to Carey and explained my physical maladies. She next put me in the care of Ciaran who is both pleasant and knowledgeable. It has been trying but Ciaran is very encouraging and patient. There is also an interesting feel to the facility when you first walk in. There is a connection between staff and the client that makes me feel that I can achieve my goals. Very positive environment, an absolute must for anyone who wants to get in shape " the right way." My trainer has shown me that all the while I thought I was exercising the right way as far as form is concerned but I FEEL the difference in having a personal trainer. The future looks brighter as I am a 62 year old male who had major back surgery two years ago. Keep up the GREAT work !!!

Working with Ciaran has been an absolute game-changer. From day one, he met me exactly where I was while pushing me toward where I wanted to be. His workouts are challenging in the best way and tailored specifically to my goals. He is patient when explaining new exercises and encouraging when it gets difficult.
What makes Ciaran stand out is his positivity, professionalism, and genuine investment in my progress. He listens to my feedback on what I’m looking for in a workout and makes adjustments to meet my needs. He has helped me rebuild my strength and ultimately has made me feel more confident! I actually look forward to my workouts now.
The facility here at capital strength has everything you could ask for and is clean and well maintained unlike other facilities I’ve been too. I couldn’t recommend it more!

I’ve done a couple of drop-in sessions here, and the facility has all the equipment you could need. It’s a great space to train. Ciaran is a great personal trainer here, he is extremely knowledgeable in his teaching and excellent at adapting workouts to your needs. Would definitely recommend someone come check out this space and workout with Ciaran.

I desperately needed some accountability so decided to try out personal training for the first time. All of the staff I’ve worked with at Capital have been great, but especially my trainer - Cesar! He really listened to what my goals are tailored my workouts around those goals. I also had some limitations from a fairly recent surgery and he was able to find ways to work around that as well. 10 out of 10 recommend Cesar and the Capital team!

Capital Strength and Conditioning is not a typical gym. No high pressure sales to join an overcrowded space; but rather, a well-equipped gym with dedicated trainers that help you get the most out of your efforts. When I started at Capital Strength a couple of years ago, I was a novice at lifting weights, even though I have now entered my 60s. Working out at Capital Strength and Conditioning has been a great experience. The trainers are patient, show you how to do the exercises, give feedback on corrections, and are very positive. I started out working with Emerson (he has gone on to PT grad school) but have had fantastic experiences with Ben, Carey, A’Dren, and Cesar. Even Tommy, whose classes I have never attended, has provided positive feedback on my form or other helpful suggestions.
I was surprised to see that there were many other clients at the gym who seemed to be new at weight lifting. And a wide age range of clients, so I don’t feel like I’m too old to be there. The trainers design workouts and appropriate weights to take you from where you are to help you improve your health and your life. Because you are receiving instruction from highly qualified professionals, you can lift the weights safely.
In two years I have gone from not being able to lift a 45 pound bar to squatting a max of 140, deadlift of 195 and great improvements on my bench and Overhead press. I have dropped 20 pounds and lost over 10% of my body fat. I had to get rid of almost all of my clothes and had a few things tailored. It changes the distribution of your weight. People regularly make comments about how healthy I look.
Capital Strength also emails you nutrition information and videos, several times per week. I have upped the amount of protein that I eat each day and am making more nutritious food choices. Matt, the owner, is there most days. He is a great guy and he clearly knows how to run a high quality facility.
I know Matt describes the gym as “no nonsense” but it feels very friendly and supportive. We get to know each other and laugh. If you take classes it is easy to talk with and have rapport with other clients. It is unlike any other gym I have joined.
I also recently had two very positive experiences with a physical therapist, Kristen. I’ve been having knee pain when I walk a long way, and she has helped me turn it around with specific exercises and dry needling.
Everyone who works there is dedicated to fitness and improvement. I am so much more able to do things with ease. I know I’m making really good choices for myself as I age. I almost can’t go a week without seeing an article in how critical weight training is. I give Capital Strength and Conditioning my highest recommendation.

I joined Capital Strength this summer and it has been a great experience all around. When I first inquired at the gym, I had a functional assessment with Carey and she was amazing. She knew my body almost better than I did just by watching me move and that sold me on the gym. She paired me with Cooper Howe for my trainer because of my back injury and hypermobility his specific areas of expertise, which in and it has been a great match. He's super knowledgeable and always attentive to how my back is doing during every workout, giving excellent corrections to my form that help me avoid stressing my back. The goal is strengthening and correcting what we can to decrease my overall weakness/ pain. I feel worked, but also great after every workout. He also covers nutrition and activity outside if the gym to help with my overall fitness and weight goals. The gym is appointment only with a personal trainer or for a class, so it's never crowded when I am in during the early morning. I have enjoyed it enough that I just re-upped my training package.

I’ve been going to this gym for approximately two months, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience so far. From day one, staff and trainers have been incredibly supportive, and welcoming. What really stands out is how eager the trainers are to help you learn proper technique and ensure you’re working out safely and effectively.
One of the things I love most is how personal training sessions are structured. They’re not your typical group classes. You are working out independently from others and can even modify movements to target the areas you want to focus on most, which makes the workouts feel truly personalized.

I am loving this experience. And this is totally new to me. Staff are exceedingly well trained & able to help with all aspects of the workout in addition to helping troubleshoot about body aches & tightness. The facility is clean & has lots of equipment that I’m still learning about. Policies are extremely user friendly. I frequently travel & it’s simple to pause your membership & resume when you’re able to begin again. No penalties or extra fees. Classes are easy to sign up for & change if a conflict arises. Before training with Owen at capital strength and conditioning, I’d never done weight training before and I couldn’t even do a bodyweight squat. In just four months of working with him I have made incredible progress. I can now squat deeper with weight, leg press over 130 pounds, and I have learned how to keep my knees healthy while building muscle. Owen takes the time to explain the reason behind every movement, which gave me the confidence to push further without fear of injury. He is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and focused on results. I’ve been working out at Capital Strength 4 times a week for the last year with Cesar and Jonathan and have loved my experience! I knew nothing about strength training when I started, having spent my entire adult life focusing on cardio and avoiding weights because they were intimidating. Capital Strengths model of training is extremely approachable. The “group class” is a bit of a misnomer as you show up at a specified time, but have a workout completely tailored to you by your coach. It’s not a place where everyone is doing the same thing at the same time. Cesar is extremely knowledgeable and gives great form cues and always pushes me to go higher in weight than I think I can. Jonathan pushes me to get one more rep than I think I can and inspires me daily with his own strength and training regime. Similarly, the clientele is also great- everyone is super encouraging and there’s all different ages and strengths represented.

I chose Capital Fitness because they quickly answered my questions, unlike other local gyms that relied on automated responses. Their personal approach made scheduling an appointment easy.
One suggestion for improvement is to introduce an intake form for one-on-one personal training sessions, as I noticed some disconnects between my initially listed goals and the trainer transitions.
Overall, I greatly appreciate the staff and the homey welcoming atmosphere at the gym, especially coach Nicole, whose attentive care made a significant difference for me and helped me kick off my physical health journey. She listened to my concerns and educated me about the amazing processes happening in our bodies during movement. With her guidance, I felt at ease and reenergized to push my fitness limits and continue my physical health journey.

I had hired personal trainers in the past and I became a personal trainer myself part-time while I was in graduate school for a Ph.D. that was completely unrelated to personal training. None of the personal trainers I had in the past come close in comparison to Nicole Brown at Capital Strength & Conditioning!
She got her start in the military, then went on to get her Master's degree, and learned how to incorporate breath work in the process. She trains people at a military base as well!
The trainers I hired in the past didn't have anywhere close to the knowledge, expertise OR practical, concrete application that Nicole does.
For example, as I was recovering from an injury in my right adductors, she has been able to determine, and can always determine (regardless of injuries), when I was/am putting too much weight on one foot versus the other for exercises that require equal weight on both feet, like squats.
The above example is just one example of her ability to apply her vast knowledge and expertise to her personal training.
She also has knowledge and expertise in breath work, for lack of a better term. For example, she is able to train me using breath work to help me increase my mobility to strengthen and/or prevent injuries. She had me do some breath work exercises to help me overcome my adductor injury and to help make my adductors stronger.
In sum, Nicole is the best personal trainer I have ever hired and that is saying a lot, IMHO. She has the knowledge and expertise, and knows how to apply it in a concrete, practical way to help me achieve peak performance. She is very attentive and seems to be very detail oriented in her ability to help me with making sure my form is exceptional for every exercise.
P.S. Nicole can't leave Capital Strength to train anywhere else because I love working out at Capital Strength and I wouldn't want to have to follow her to another facility!

If you are looking for a new gym or to get into fitness and strengthen training, Capital Strength is the place to go. Being new to the Raleigh area I found Capital Strength to be a great fit for my needs. I have wanted to find a gym that focused on strength training and conditioning. I have been in and out of gyms for almost 50 years, and I can say with certainty that Capital Strength and Conditioning is among the best I have experienced. The facility is excellent - there is plenty of equipment and it is always clean and very well maintained. Most importantly, the staff is friendly, professional, and serious about your progress towards better strength and health. To get the most out of any workout, it helps to have a good working relationship with a trainer who is clinical enough to recognize what you need to do and motivating enough to get that extra effort out of you. My trainer Emerson excels at both of these traits and also has a great sense of humor, which always helps. I recommend both the gym and Emerson unreservedly, and although I have not worked out with the other trainers, all you have to do is hang around a short while and watch them in action to know that you won’t go wrong with any of them.

I've been working with my coach A'Dren, at Capital Strength & Conditioning in Raleigh, for the past several months, and I couldn't be happier with the results. In the past 6 months under A'Dren's guidance, along with a fairly carefully controlled, mostly-whole-foods diet (also with guidance provided regularly by gym staff), I have safely lost 35 pounds while maintaining and building muscle, improving stability of my movements, and increasing range of motion in my back and arms. No ozempic meds. My appearance, confidence, and general well being are better than they had been in a long time. TBH, my weight loss could have been a bit more, but inconsistent personal discipline with diet has kept the loss so far at 35 rather than something like 40. About 20 pounds to go before I reach my goal weight. I use a home body composition scale to monitor weight and _trends_ in body composition.
A'Dren is extremely knowledgeable about how the musculoskeletal system works. He is observant, and creates exercises that are tuned to each of his clients' needs. For example, happens that I spent my entire career hunched over a computer typing on a keyboard without enough stability and range of motion exercise, and this affected my posture and gait. Additionally, I have some knee joint issues that are common at my age (59). A'Dren watches me carefully, and tunes my workouts to correct for those years of bad ergonomic habits. The payoff is huge. Each week typically we alternate between a day of range of motion and stability work to improve secondary muscles, and a day of strength training that may include squats and dead lifts to work the legs, various presses and rows for arms, and other exercises to focus on abs. A'Dren is friendly, non-judgemental, genuinely interesting, and a great conversationalist. Working with him is a pleasure.
When I decided to join a gym, I wanted a place suitable for a proper workout, with the right balance of people and equipment, rather than a dime-a-dozen big box mega gym. I had considered a large gym near my house, but the parking lot is always jam packed, and people complain about waiting for equipment to be available as well as less-than-stellar equipment maintenance. The juice bar, sauna, day care, taco truck, and fairy-hair pop-up event offerings weren't all that interesting to me, personally, since I don't intend to make a gym a major part of my daily social life. Capital Strength and Conditioning fit the bill. It has all the strength equipment you will need...free weights and machines, bands, ropes, sleds, etc. It has enough cardio machines to suit the size of the gym. There are lockers, and a shower. It's never too crowded. Everything is well maintained, and some new equipment upgrades have been added recently.
In short, if your needs are similar to mine, you can't go wrong with Capital Strength and Conditioning, and ask for A'Dren for any personal trainer needs.

CSC has been a life changing experience for me. I’ve always struggled with getting to the gym, not fully understanding what to do. Wanting to make the most use of limited time.

After going through a divorce at 44, I made a personal commitment to get into the best shape of my life. I started my journey at a franchise gym in January and gave it my all for three months. While I was able to shed the extra weight I had gained over the winter, I wasn’t seeing the muscle tone and definition I was aiming for. Given my age and the challenges that come with perimenopause, I realized I needed something more.. something smarter and safer.
I knew I needed a program focused not just on building muscle but also on providing expert guidance to help prevent injuries. I had previously tried a few other franchise gyms and ended up dealing with small injuries/persistent back pain because they throw you in! This was was discouraging.

From the moment I walked in, I felt supported. After a comprehensive consultation, the person I met with created a personalized plan just for me. I now train in small group sessions (usually with two others) and work closely with a personal trainer who tailors every workout to my needs. They literally bring a magnetic whiteboard to my station with my individualized plan, and they stay by my side to correct my form, guide me through each movement, and make modifications that target my specific goals. The staff here is incredibly knowledgeable, supportive, and genuinely invested in your success. I even have an accountability coach who checks in with me regularly to keep me on track.

I’m pretty active but was getting bored and wanted a professional to be able to help me with my goals. Capital S&C has been excellent. Carey was able to look at my goals and my introduction session and chose the perfect trainer for me in Nicole. Nicole has been able to look at my goes and speak with me on them during sessions to help me understand their use and where we are going with it. Also been able to adjust things as my energy levels may be good or bad at the end of a long work day. My experience at Capital Strength & Condition has been amazing. After only 3 months I have doubled my deadlift and Squat weights, and lost about 4inches off of my naval. I have had the opportunity to work with most of the staff during classes, and they have all been wonderful. I was somewhat on and off with weight lifting & exercise for ~10 years before starting at capital strength about 3 months ago. During my 10 years of “solo” lifting, I’d have moments where’d I’d be super motivated and would make substantial progress, but I’d also have a lot of moments where I’d hit plateaus, feeling like I was just going through the motions, and dealing with a lot of muscular imbalances, weaknesses, and aches.
I knew I needed a change, and I joined capital. I had the privledge of being paired with Seiry, and working out with her has made such a huge difference. From the get-go she was very receptive to any feedback that I had, and the focus areas that I wanted to improve on. My core strength has improved significantly (which has always been a weakness of mine that I wanted to strengthen), and my bench has never been higher. The workouts are constructed uniquely for you, and I have heard great things about all the other trainers as well.
The equipment and environment is super clean. The gym clearly has a staff that cares a lot about what they do. It just feels fresh. Overall, I highly recommend it, whether you are new to lifting, or just need a change of pace. For me, it’s been very rewarding to see progress, hit milestones that due to injury and/or weaknesses, I thought might not be attainable, and to genuinely look forward to working out.

I came across Capital Strength and Conditioning 2 years ago when I first moved to Raleigh, NC for work. First impression: the staff was very friendly and the environment was welcoming. My overall goal was to become more comfortable with free weights and barbell exercises. My biggest concern walking in was body mechanics and ensuring I had proper form. After the initial consultation, I was paired with Cooper, who has been awesome! He took the time to understand my concerns and has always managed to offer a solution. Even when I injured my knee, he adjusted our training sessions to accommodate for it and offer alternatives to exercises without favoring one side too much. You can tell he is very knowledgeable and loves what he does! I have had issues with staying motivated in the gym, and Cooper really goes above and beyond for his clients! I will continue to train at Capital because of Cooper! I think anyone who is looking to start their fitness journey or take it to the next level should give it a try, especially since the gym recently expanded. I've been training with Ben at Capital Strength & Conditioning for over two months now and couldn't be happier. What stands out the most to me is how all-encompassing their training support is. TL;DR - no matter your starting point and personal goals, you will find success here.
INTAKE
You will need to do a quick consultation meeting before beginning training here. This is super easy and will work to introduce you to the gym, the environment, and a coach.
THE GYM & EXERCISES
The gym focuses on hitting the big 4 lifts - bench, squat, deadlift, and overhead press. These are done first then followed by accessory lifts using dumbbells, machines, and body weight & bands. There is usually a recovery activity and a harder "challenge" exercise. The gym was expanded and there is plenty of room for the class and any 1:1 sessions occurring. On the instances when I've had to share a machine, it has never been a problem - people are happy to share. The gym is always clean.
1:1 CLASSES
I began my journey in the 1:1 classes. This is NOT something you need to do, even if you are new to lifting (more on this in GROUP CLASSES). However, the 1:1 classes really worked to build my confidence in the gym and around weights. I can highly recommend every coach at this gym and all of them are amazing to work with 1:1. If new, you will build a strong foundation. If a veteran lifter, you will still find these sessions useful for intensely focusing on specific goals.
GROUP CLASSES
The group classes are limited to just 8 people, ensuring that you still get 1:1 attention and can always ask the working coaches questions. There will always be a coach available to help. The small class sizes also make it easy to jump straight into classes if you're new. The exercises are challenging, interesting, and effective. Your workout will be found on the "board" - a large whiteboard containing all the information for the week. You will learn a large variety of exercises (and name variations) and will always have access to a coach to ask any questions.
COACHES
I cannot say enough positive things about the coaches in this gym. Every single one is incredibly knowledgeable, kind, and they all practice what they preach. There is a good mix of women and male coaches and there are many different body types amongst the staff. None of the coaches are intimidating to approach with questions. They are also the most encouraging people I've met. The coaches will work with you on your own individual goals (losing weight, gaining muscle, preventing injury, perfecting form, hitting personal bests - I've done all that and more with their help). The most powerful tool I've found is that the coaches will all give you tools to succeed at your goals in the 23 hours a day you're not at the gym! This includes nutrition information, mobility classes (which I think EVERYONE should take), advice for recovery, and more.
COMMUNITY
I have not met a single unfriendly person here. You can talk to your classmates or you can put on headphones and work out without distraction. You truly get what you put in here. Capital Strength will also host social events a few times a year, which is a great way to meet people who work out at different times.

I have been training at Capital for the past three weeks, and the experience has been superb. I actually feel pulled to the gym, whereas before when I trained on my own, it took a lot of will-power to get myself to the gym. Now I look forward to every session.
Coaching: I do one-on-one training with Cooper, and I couldn't be happier. His knowledge and attention to detail have really helped me improve my lifting form, and I'm confident that my technique and strength will continue to improve. It is a huge help to have a knowledgeable trainer watching every rep and making a bunch of micro-adjustments that add up to big improvements in technique.
Facility: The gym is spacious and clean and has all the equipment I'll ever need to reach my goals.
Atmosphere: Welcoming and motivating. The environment is not at all intimidating, and there is a felt sense of collective commitment to quality, hard work, and growth.

After recently losing a relative to poor health, I decided that now is the time to get my health in check. Throughout my childhood, I never participated in sports or learned how to exercise. The only form of exercise I have been doing in my daily life is walking my dog and playing tennis when the weather permits. I needed help to learn how to use gym equipment and proper form in exercising my body. I was aligned to work with Cooper, who was such an understanding and encouraging trainer for me. And my trainer Emerson is a 10/10 guy very knowledgeable, takes his time to make sure you are going at the right pace, and does a great job of making exercising fun fir the both if you! If you're thinking of trying it out just go for it and you won't regret it

I started coming here in Feb 2023 with 0 weight lifting experience. I have nothing but amazing things to say - my trainer, Ben, has been great at listening to my goals, designing a program that will achieve that goal, and doing so in a way that has led to no injuries and a sustainable path to lifelong lifting. I highly recommend to anyone who is either a first-time gymgoer or to experienced lifters.

I recently moved to Raleigh and looking for a gym was a top priority. Capital Strength has great trainers, programs and equipment. Convenient and easy to get to, and easy to schedule workouts with the app. And CLEAN and ORGANIZED.
Compound lifts were new to me, so good trainers were essential. Ben's coaching has helped me gain confidence and trust myself. His cues and coaching help keep me from overthinking and slow down. Ben, Eli, Peter and Cary make me want to show up and try my best. I'm really happy with my progress.

Great coaches, spacious facility with plenty of machines, free weights, towers, etc, and most importantly effective programming. I visited on a nice day and they had the big doors open, letting in fresh air. If you want yo get into shape and see results this is the place.

Capital Strength @ Conditioning is the best gym I've ever worked out at. There is tremendous space and equipment options available for anyone at any point in their fitness journey. What has made this gym so much more impactful to my life, is working with my personal trainer, Emerson. From Day 1, Emerson has helped me achieve excellent results. In just a little over 2 months, I've lost 5 inches on my waist, and gained significant muscle in my chest, arms, and back. Emerson blends workouts to be challenging, attainable, and fun. He allows me to give input into what exercises I enjoy or don't enjoy, and ensures we are achieving results in the process. He has been extremely flexible with my busy work schedule, and is always willing to accommodate my needs.
