If you want to join this gym and sign up for personal training DON’T! I have been trying to cancel my personal training since September 2024. This is the worst experience I’ve ever had in my life. The manager will not return my phone call/text. He will not set up an appointment to cancel my PT and apparently, he’s the only one who can do it. No one else is able to help me. I’ve called MULTIPLE times and it’s the same thing “He’s a very busy man, he will return your call” Or “Yes, I have your information down and I will give it to him” They have taken almost $200 bi weekly out of my account for months and I even blocked them Through my bank, but they have another portal so they’re still taking my money. I have begged them over the phone to help me cancel and set up an appointment but they cannot help me. I told them I can just come in and we can do it face-to-face. They told me that the PT manager is not taking walk-ins under no circumstances. Therefore, leaving me, unable to cancel my PT. They are making it IMPOSSIBLE to cancel . I don’t even have a personal trainer anymore because he left , So now I’m just paying for nothing !!This is the worst place ever You will not get any help.

UPDATE: About one week after I posted this I was finally able to come in and cancel with someone other than the head PT. After I canceled, they continued to charge me almost $200! About two weeks ago, I looked at my account and realized they double charged me almost $400. (They took two payments at once smh) I have the best relationship ever with my bank now and they know me by name, because I’m consistently calling biweekly to dispute the charges. I no longer have a PT membership with them, but yet they still continue to charge me! My bank told me at this point I’m going to have to get a completely new account to stop them from charging me!

There is definitely enough equipment to get a good workout but there are next to no safety clips for barbells. This location has the worst locker room out of any other Charlotte location. It's the only location with built in locks and people hoard the lockers by leaving them locked to save them for the next day. The staff very rarely resets the locks and I'd prefer if we could just bring our own locks because half the built in locks are broken. The water pressure is terrible and the water in the showers is ice cold. Of they could fix the issues in the locker room this has the potential to be a 5 star gym

Joined Crunch Steele Creek on March 2, 2025, lured by their “Spring Into A New Routine!” ad—”$1 + 30 days free” with code SPRING! Shiny machines, cool classes, “no judgments”? Yes, please! I thought I’d snagged a gym trial sweeter than a protein shake. Wrong!

I’m stuck in a 90-day non-cancelable contract, sneakily hidden on Page 13 of a 24-page beast you can’t even see unless you beg for it (got mine March 16, 2025, after 7 sweaty days). No app or website access to this fine print circus! Now I owe $18.24/month starting April 1 and a $59.99 annual fee in May—surprise, sucker! The gym’s decent (much too busy, that is why I am cancelling), but this bait-and-switch marketing is a total dumbbell move. The staff is also hostile to customers. I’m happy to update my review if this issue can get resolved promptly.

Large clean gym featuring a row of 10-12 barbell lifting platforms with bumper plates and plenty of bench press stations. Also plenty of dumbbells, treadmills, machines, and a turf field. The crowds were low compared to the barbell racks, and plenty of space between stations. The bathrooms have showers and a sauna. The day pass costs $15.

Overall, this is a solid gym with a lot of potential. It’s definitely a step up from places like Planet Fitness, and I appreciate the clean environment and the variety of equipment available. The Life Fitness/Hammer Strength machines are a standout—they’re top-notch, and I’d love to see even more of them added to the mix, especially in place of some of the Crunch or Matrix equipment.

That said, there are a few opportunities to make the experience even better. Expanding to 24-hour access—even as part of a premium membership—would be a game-changer for those of us with early work schedules. Right now, it can feel a bit hectic in the mornings, with a crowd waiting at the door and a rush to grab machines once it opens.

The dumbbell selection is great, but with only one of each type of machine, it can turn into a bit of a waiting game—especially when some members hold multiple machines at once. A few tweaks in layout or equipment quantity could really help improve flow and fairness during peak hours.

All in all, it’s a very good gym with a lot going for it. With just a few thoughtful adjustments, it could easily become a top-tier fitness destination

Can’t stand this gym simply for the fact that they’re so eager to collect a late fee no matter the circumstances. I’m not even 4 days passed my due date and I’m already being charged an extra $15 to an already $32 membership that isn’t being used. I came into this gym 3 times after my payment was due and scanned in and not once did a staff member say “your payment didn’t process” but it’s not until they’re ready to charge a late fee that something is said. Meanwhile, the whole time I’m thinking my membership is paid. Absolutely lousy for me to come in at 5 am and the first thing I’m told is oh you have to pay an extra 15 and this isn’t the first time this happens this way. The animosity in this place between staff and customers is terrible and if there was another gym in the area other than PF I would be a member there. SMH

I’ve been a member of Crunch off and on for a little over 5 years and the Steele Creek location is really starting to disappoint me. They are constantly out of disinfecting wipes, lockers are broken or people keep them permanently code locked (there’s been plenty of complaints for the staff to unlock them and reset them and after months of this, they’re finally starting to do it), a lot of equipment is broken or constantly has issues, the bathrooms and water fountain are always gross, the parking lot is atrocious and there’s not nearly enough spots to accommodate the constant influx of members, and there’s signs in the bathroom that photography isn’t allowed yet today there was an EMPLOYEE was taking selfies with a friend. Management does absolutely nothing to resolve complaints or really attempt to take action on anything. They truly do not care about anything except getting in new members. Seriously Crunch, do better.

I went to this gym for about 9 months, really dedicated to my fitness goals. I’m not one to leave bad reviews, but the staff and management at this location were beyond rude and showed little to no care for members so this review is a must. Parking is a nightmare at this location! They never built a parking lot sufficient for the number of members. The other businesses got so mad that the gym use the full lot so neighboring businesses would tow cars. The gym did nothing to help members, and they did not even try to build relationships with the other businesses to prevent this issue. One day after my workout I walked out to no car outside even after parking in an actual parking spot. In order to get my car back I had to pay $475 cash! Policies are not communicated well to members. They don’t care for member retention. They care most about getting your money. The gym is always so crowded during peak gym hours which doesn’t allow for a quality workouts without literally being on top of other members. I will never go back to this location!

I love leaving reviews. I am a big reviewer when it comes to visiting any place that I go to so with that being said, I will have to say I love coming to this gym. The staff is super friendly, super helpful. They are really clean as far as everything else Except the #1 place that should be attentive to is the women's locker room especially the shower area. It is really nasty. The crazy part is one day I was walking past and I seen this little door that was to the right by the women's bathroom and someone was coming out and I looked in and seen that it's an area for just the employees,I'm assuming they take showers and use the bathroom but it's funny how that is super clean, but when it comes to they're women area in the women locker room as far as the shower area, it's not treated as such at all (I thought that customers come first but I guess not). It's really disgusting as far as the shower curtain as y'all can see in the images I left. Everyone knows that the bathroom is like the number one hygiene area that you should always keep clean and for it to be unkept for the amount of money they receive from annuals and memberships you would think they would be up to par on everything in the gym. It just behooved me I attend this gym actually on the regular basis and the bathroom always look like this. It is never clean in the shower area. They're light in the women's mirror locker room. (it's like the first door to the right). The light is not working It'll be nice if they can attend to the women's bathroom more regularly especially when someone wanna wash their body. I think y'all should have someone clean that shower area at least every hour. Alot of women that comes in and out. so it'll be nice if they can get that together once I can see a change in that especially when I'm paying 40 bucks for a membership. I mean, why wouldn't you want to enjoy all the perks and necessities that comes with it. you know what I mean. so I'll check and see if the showers in the woman's bathroom is up to par and maybe we can change it from two stars to five other than that I freaking love the gym. I think everything else is awesome!

I was paying that high membership fee solely for Matt Longley’s class—he was the reason I showed up, stayed consistent, and actually enjoyed working out. Now that he’s gone, I canceled my membership immediately.

If this gym actually cared about its members and the community it claims to serve, they’d bring Matt back without hesitation. He delivered results, created real connections, and built a loyal following that your branding alone could never do.

And let’s be real—you know he was the best. That’s why you’re deleting comments on Instagram from people speaking up. It’s embarrassing how these big corporations always push out the ones who make the biggest difference.

They’re running this place into the ground. No regular machine maintenance. Men’s room is consistently neglected and sanitary wipes always running out. I’ve complained without responses. Told front desk about men’s room almost completely out of toilet paper, just nodded and walked away while I was in mid-sentence. Obviously hearing this a lot. I’ll be quitting soon. 09/26/25 - The most incompetent people that I have ever worked with. The poorest customer experience that I have ever had. I had to explain my concern to 4 different people…front desk, personal trainer, manager, and a higher manager that refused to give me his name. I gave permission to take my monthly membership from a debit account. I then gave permission for them to take out my personal trainer fee from a credit account. They did not have permission to take the personal trainer fee from my debit account. They refused to put my money back into my debit account. Also, yesterday I had to block Mathew Miles from emailing me. I have asked several times to stop emailing me about personal training sessions and he continued. At what point does this become harassment? Sometimes it is just best to do the right thing over being greedy for money.

09/25/25 x I don’t understand why on some days the music is so loud like you are at a dance club. I can’t even hear the sound in my headphones clearly for how loud the gym music is.

I try not to leave bad reviews, but this 1 star review is based on a policy I was told this gym has when I tried to visit using a 1 day free pass that I signed up for. I am new to the area and staying in a hotel with my family. Because we don't yet have a home here, I was told that I couldn't use a free pass to visit; however, I could pay for the day. I was even asked to consider a membership plan. Thr sad thing is, we enjoyed using Crunch in Florida. Thankfully, LA Fitness doesn't have the same bad policy. They just earned a customer.

This is the worst Crunch ever! The one who worked there didn’t tell me when I first signed up I have to stay for 3 month, they didn’t even give me few days for trials. from the first month I didn’t like the gym, most of the machines are out of service, packed and you’d have to wait at least 5 mins for each one. I tried to go different times 11am, 3pm 6pm and 8pm it’s always like that so I’m done with their excuses. They got the annual fees however I mentioned 3 times I want to cancel my subscription. They will force you to stay but they won’t work on their broken machines lol

This Crunch location is ok. Thankfully I wasn't locked into any predatory contract and only came here for a month but I saw some things that pushed me to Planet Fitness further up S. Tryon St.
1. It's poppin! Consistently crowded, which is to be expected for a cheaper gym. The Eos gyms out in AZ were busy, but they also were massive compared to this location.
2. No mats. Staff informed me its BYO mat. I saw a few scattered around the gym, but otherwise people stretched on the turf or the bare floor. This is a bit awkward because would you want to keep going back and forth to your locker to put the mat away in between various floor exercises?
3. Ran out of wipes frequently. So now every machine may be sweaty when they run out. Ew.
4. Not 24 hours.
5. Men's sauna out of service intermittently.
Overall again, its not horrible. I even like the HIIT training they do, from watching it behind the rope they put up 🤣. Nothing like stratification with your gym membership. But I'm not lifting huge weight or needing Smith machines daily so Planet Fitness works a little bit better for my needs.

Loved the HIIT classes at Crunch Steele Creek! The trainers were super motivating and made sure everyone felt comfortable while still pushing us to give our best. The workout flew by and had a great mix of cardio and strength. I left feeling sweaty, energized, and accomplished. Definitely one of my favorite classes here!

Terrible experience with this Gym and its staff! I completely understand that things happen with banks and fees and but if i have had an issue normally the gym allows me the courtesy of getting my workout in and resolving it with my bank and card after. I was denied access this is the first time happening. I had just received the message by text from this gym at 9am and walked into that gym 10 minutes after no email or anything. It was something I was completely unaware of and needed to contact my bank! They were so rude about it and very dismissive. I spoke to Micheal who was completely rude about it he is supposedly a manager. That was very disappointing. They need to do better with their customer service. I have never written a negative review in my life but this was a must!!

The gym has absolutely everything you could want—plenty of equipment, a great variety of machines, classes, recovery amenities, and a clean, welcoming atmosphere. Every time I walk in, Caeley greets me with a smile that instantly brightens my day. The gym was the reason I got into working out. Their class options are great and the location is convenient for me. However, since opening last year the gym is already dealing with issues that are easy fixes yet ongoing. The gym is so packed most afternoons/early evenings that require you to wait around on equipment all the time, sanitary wipes are constantly out when the gym is totally packed and sweaty, the girl's bathroom doors are constantly squeaky and going back to how overpacked with memberships they are, the classes (especially pilates and anything in the hot studio) are often so overpacked in that small hot room that if you don't get there early enough you have to lay your mat by the door (where you feel a cold breeze therefore your experience is no longer a hot workout). They supposedly keep track of the sign in count, yet somehow the hot pilates clas is so overpacked that the last people walking in can't find space which leads to difficulties in actually working out without hitting your neighbor.
Just the other day, I got told the class is full when I went to sign in and couldn't find the sign in sheet even though I had booked it through the app. Once I finally got in the class, there were no weights left for me because the class was overpacked (Barbell 45 on Saturday morning).
This leads me to the final complaint that was the main reason I am writing this review - the ongoing problem of good trainers leaving/being let go. I understand that if the trainers themselves leave, that is outside of their control. However, they recently let go of the most loved trainer at this location, Matt. This is absolutely ridiculous especially as it's only been a year since opening and a lot of the good trainers are now gone.

I cancel my membership and the gym continue to charge the card I have on file. When I ask for the refund they ask for another moth of membership so they can give me 3 months refund out of 12 months I paid.

Overall, I think this is a great gym with friendly staff.
I’ve seen some of the one-star reviews and honestly, I don’t agree with them—especially the one about the warning for not putting equipment back. Personally, I think there should also be a rule that if you spend 5 minutes texting or watching videos between sets while others are waiting, you should be asked to move along.

It’s frustrating to see people sitting on equipment, glued to their phones, while others are trying to work out. If you really need to binge videos or have long text conversations, maybe that’s better done at home—not in the middle of the gym floor.

That said, I can’t give the club a lower rating for this. I still believe it’s a great place to work out, and I appreciate the staff and atmosphere. Here’s to more respectful gym etiquette and happy workouts!

Visited from out of town. Great equipment, but they need to maintain it. Stuff looks brand new, but when you go to use the equipment it's apparent a lot of it just needs some regular oil to help it function and move smoothly. Simple fix. Otherwise it was good.

I’ve been a member of Crunch Fitness for a little over 2 years now. This specific location is the most unwelcoming out of all the locations in Charlotte. First off, they had this single sign posted only in front of the dumbbells and nowhere else — How is someone on the squat rack supposed to know about this if it’s not posted in multiple places? Then later that week the sign is gone but they make constant intermittent announcements over the speaker.. So you’re threatening to kick people out while they’re working out over a speaker? In my opinion that’s an awful business model. Second, they’re almost always out of wipes? REALLY makes you question what the staff does… Third, on 2 separate occasions they’ve played a siren that sounds similar to what goes off on FOB when there’s missiles incoming. (Veterans will understand) I’ve called and asked to speak specifically to the manager and complained once and it still happens. As an Army Veteran I find it EXTREMELY ignorant and disrespectful if a complaint was made but the behavior is the same. While leaving the gym you even hear other people complaining as well. Then I stayed one day to watch and all the staff walked out exactly at 11:04pm. I’ve worked in the gym industry before and am a trainer myself. I worked at Chuze Fitness in California where we had to re-rack the weights, clean , shine the gym and count the POS at the end of day. I really don’t understand what the staff does besides stand behind the desk all night and herd people out in a terrible fashion. I used to come to this location out of connivence. Now I will GLADLY drive 25 mins to Matthews or Arboretum where I don’t feel threatened to clean up after other members and the staff are actually welcoming. This is not a gym culture that keeps members motivated and wanting to come back.

Giving up one of the most influential and powerful trainers for "no real reason" was abhorrent. This feels more like a personal matter. You made a HUGE mistake, corporate. The ONLY reason to attend this gym is Matt Longley!!!!!! I have been taking Matt's b45 and HIIT classes for a year and I have made great progress, not only in weight loss but gaining strength. I cannot believe the regional manager of this gym, Kristy, let go of the BEST INSTRUCTOR IN THE BUILDING, HANDS DOWN! Leadership is an art not a science!

To the decision makers, know that you came into OUR COMMUNITY to SERVE US, not the other way around. We are not just a way to scale your membership numbers; we are a community. You knew how loved Matt is when you made the decision and therefore you knew how much it would hurt OUR COMMUNITY! SHAME ON YOU!!!!

Letting go of Matt Longely, a trainer who consistently went above and beyond, is a truly baffling decision. His classes filled up within seconds, and people traveled from all over Charlotte and beyond just to attend. It's clear that Matt was a major asset to Crunch—not just for his professionalism and dedication, but for the loyal community he built around him.

Unfortunately, Kristy’s decision to part ways with him does not seem to reflect the best interests of the gym or its members. I hope Crunch takes a hard look at this choice and learns from it. As for Matt, I have no doubt he’ll move on to bigger and better opportunities—and I’m sure many of us will follow him there.

Coming here because Crunch decided to silence members and delete comments on Instagram, instead of addressing them. I’m really disappointed with Kristy, the group fitness supervisor, and whoever made the call to let Matt go. Matt’s classes were the only reason I and many others were willing to pay the high membership fees, and now I’ll be canceling/downgrading.

You just lost a really good one. Horrible business decision. This Crunch location was my favorite because of Matt’s classes, the way he pushed us, knew our goals, and cared about us as people. He wasn’t just there for a paycheck, he really cared about everyone attending his class and it showed! His classes booked out in seconds unlike any other instructor. That says everything about the type of instructor he was. Doing this without even thinking about how it would impact members is such a disappointment and honestly makes me question the management and values of this location. I don’t see yall the same.

I’ll definitely be following Matt wherever he goes next and supporting him there. Crunch, shame on you for silencing members online and for letting one of your very best walk out the door!

Matt was the only trainer I truly connected with—the reason I stayed consistent, showed up multiple times a week, and actually looked forward to working out. His energy, dedication, and the way he poured into every single person in class created a community you cannot manufacture with ads or promotions.

If that doesn’t speak volumes idk what will. I began taking his classes in December, a month after joining the gym, and loved them ever since. My workout routine will not be the same without his classes! He challenged us, encouraged us, and celebrated us EVERY session. His classes? BOOKED. His energy? UNMATCHED.
