I’ve been personal training with Hannah for about 4 months. She’s an amazing personal trainer! Very knowledgeable, professional, attentive, and compassionate about her job. I love that she frequently changes up our workouts, modifies them to my abilities, pushes me, and works with me on my diet. She takes time on a regular basis to discuss and check in on my short and long term fitness goals. She has great work ethic and allows for flexibility in her schedule to train me while accommodating my busy work schedule. I highly recommend Hannah as a personal trainer.

I’ve had numerous discussions with Mgmt at this location about the horrible language that is allowed at Shipyard. Today, I was here just 20 minutes and the choice of music being played was beyond sickening! F-bombs blasting all over the very loud speakers. I spoke with Cade once again and he had the nerve to give me an attitude, as I asked that he find some family-appropriate music. I asked for the Owners Email and he said he could not give me his information. This is supposed to be a “family-friendly” establishment with a “Kid-Zone” that has to hear this choice of music from Mgmt. The only reason we workout here is because it’s much closer to our home and children’s schools. My 13yr old has to hear constant cursing everytime we walk in this location. It’s not hard to have rules and respect for others. I would never suggest this gym. Beyond disappointing! Family’s deserve better!
And you did NOT change this sick song until AFTER it was over…don’t reply back making it worse by telling blatant lies. Sad!🙏

I was looking to join a gym after about a 7 year hiatus from lifting weights. I had been doing bodyweight exercises in my house but my home workout area has been recently consumed by my granddaughters gear. For those in the know, baby's require many contraptions, toys, play pens, play areas, etc. It's all good and I'm fortunate to be able to host my first grandchild. Anyhow, Fit4Life was the 3rd gym I visited in my immediate area. As soon as I walked in and looked to the left, I knew this was my place. While most gyms have enough cardio machines to consume a majority of the available gym floor space, F4L takes the opposite approach. Most of their floor space consists of quality workout machines, and more importantly to me, a massive free weight area. They have about 7 squat racks against one wall and plenty of benches, barbells, dumbells, and plates of all denominations. And, they are open 24 hours! That might not be a big deal to many people but if ever i need some peace and quiet away from home, I can pack a cooler of drinks, head to the gym, watch a little TV, shower if I need to, and head back home - any time of day or night. I don't even have to work out. It's sort of a local detached man cave for me. It's a good place. UPDATE:
After a full year, I still think it's a great gym. However, they seem to have a staff retention problem. This may be industry-wide and not just specific to this gym, not sure. Additionally, they do not hold their members accountable for "trashing the place". Sometimes , weights are strewn all over the place, empty beverage bottles left on the floor along with tissues, paper towels, etc. Barbells and machines are overloaded with plates. I've brought the situation to their attention and of course, there are excuses. Forget the excuses and hold these slobs accountable. Yet there are signs saying if you're caught personal training others, your membership will be revoked. What about if you're caught being a slob?

I must say, the most recent renovation (4/28/2025) to Fit4Life is awesome! They bumped out a wall, put all the dumbbells and many benches in their own room. Plus, they've added some excellent Hammer Strength Machines and other brands with some appearing to be new. They have also doubled up on the more popular machines like Hammer Strength ISO Wide Chest. Plus, they've added more Universal/ Cable Stations. Nicely done Fit4Life. It's like a whole new gym. Can't give it 5 stars because upper management needs to better communicate with its members. They had shut down during the renovation and told us to visit any of the other gyms in the area to workout. They neglected to tell us that the Kerr Ave branch would be shutting It's doors the Friday the renovations were happening. I stroll into the Kerr Gym on Friday while practically every machine was being loaded onto trucks and nobody was around.So, I made the trip to Murrayville which by the way is a great looking gym too.
UPDATE #3:
How I look forward to visiting Fit4Life. What an escape! This place is huge. It's got everything anyone would need and plenty of it. Additionally, management has been communicating much better. Fit4Life is a great place to workout. Now if only the late nighters or super early gym goers would re-rack their plates. You know who you are...the guy that loads up 5 45 lb plates on either side of a leg press and just walks away after their final set.

STAY FAR FAR AWAY. The absolutely most unclean gym I have ever been to. Bathrooms smell like piss with pee stains all over the toilets. Nothing is wiped down or kept up. They will screw you over ever chance they get. Closed down my location with less than a weeks notice. Tried to cancel my membership and was told I have to give 60 day written notice and would still be charged for the next 2 months. So they can close down a location whenever they want but wont let you out. Clearly they need the money. Just a joke of a place. There are many other better gyms in town. Unfortunately I am updating my review from a 5 star to a 1 star. We signed up in early November and loved it. The staff were amazing, friendly and easy to talk too. We signed a 6 month membership for personal training which went well but then it changed. The training manager was fired for various reasons and when a new one was announced we informed them that we do not want to sign another training contract to which he refuses to acknowledge as happening. The whole vibe has changed. All the friendly staff is gone and the new staff is very unpleasant and doesn’t seem to care about their members.

Unfortunately after being here for 6 months I have to update my review to 1 star. When we first started everything was great, we pre paid our membership for 1 year and even signed up for personal training for the whole family. Training was great at first but it went downhill quickly. We signed up for a 6 month contract with the understanding of the training manager that our contract would cancel after 6 months, we reverified with the training manager in February that our contract would NOT continue after 6 months. The training manager was fired and the new training manager approached us about extending our contract and we said do not extend our contract to which he replied “your contract will not renew unless you re sign a contract”. Fast forward to today and we are fighting with Peak Payments because the training manager has NO integrity and says we never approached him about our contract. Over 6 months and $4000 in membership and training and they are fighting us over 1 month of training dues. I have multiple complaints I would love to share with corporate! Local staff was great, then everyone quit and new staff couldn’t care less for its members. 3 of the treadmills have been broken for over 3 months. We have a prepaid membership and are looking at just sucking up the loss and switching to a new gym.

I came to Wilmington from a place where gyms provided a wide range of well kept amenities for a reasonable monthly price with no contract. My money got me 2x as much in those gyms. This gym is different. You have to lock into big contracts to get halfway decent pricing. However, it isn't that decent considering the facilities. The facilities are limited and often very dirty.

I got contacted about renewing my membership by the gym. The best renewal offer they can give me was something like 16 months, paid-up-front that costs me ~$10 more a month than my last paid-in-full contract... Just give me a decent price please!

I continued talking some of the people at the front desk about membership options. I mentioned that the guy who sold me my last paid-in-full membership said that I can cancel the membership early and receive some percentage of what I paid for the remaining months. The people there said they didn't know what I was talking about and that I was lied to by that sales rep. The sales rep before that one that lied to me also told me there were planning on building a location closer to me, which turned out to be lie too.

This gym is filthy and a disaster. Sunday am of course no workers at desk. Even if they are there they are too busy texting to worry about customers or the gym. Whats up with members bringing in a large duffle bags and wearing pajama bottoms, crocs with socks? Ever hear of gym attire? How aobut leaving your luggage in the locker room. I went into men's locker room and some punk was smoking an E-cig today. Does this place have something called a MANAGER or OWNER that ever walks in to check on things? When this place first opened it was nice. Martha was the only one worth a damn that worked there and you ran her off. Does this place even have a manager? These cats expect me to take a comfortable dump in here? There’s literally dust lining the hallway leading to the men’s locker room. This place has gone way down hill in the past year… I mean it’s always been a little dirty but now it’s really dirty. As you can see in the photo attached, no one wants to use a bathroom with dookie stains on the toilet seat. To top it off, the music is absolute dog water. Hope they aren’t surprised when everyone leaves to go to crunch fitness. This place needs to be actually cleaned asap. I've been working with a personal trainer at the Shipyard location for a little over 3 months, and I can honestly say it's been one of the best decisions I've ever made. My trainer, PJ, is knowledgeable, motivating, and tailored our sessions to fit my specific goals and needs.

The progress I've made has been incredible - I have Increased my strength and endurance, and gained confidence in my abilities. PJ has been with me every step of the way, providing guidance, support, and encouragement.

I highly recommend this location and investing in any form of PT, if you are looking for a personalized fitness experience. It's worth every penny!

This gym's strength is in the people who work there. Almost all of them are welcoming and nicer than the staff at other gyms. It's small and can get crowded to the point where I leave before finishing my workout, but that has happened to me in larger gyms too. And while I would like some equipment that's not there, I can modify my workout to accommodate that. My biggest critique is that there are SO MANY squat racks and few power lifters, so I think it would be helpful to replace a few squat racks with another cable crossover.

As a 19yr old girl, going to a new gym is scary but these employees are so so helpful and supportive. When I feel like I’m not doing a specific workout right, I go and ask how I should be doing it or even how to use the machines and they help every time. I moved here in May of this year and Fit4Life has welcomed me with open arms. I have always been skeptical about going to certain gyms just from past experience but I have never felt uncomfortable here. The people who go to this gym are super friendly and I have made some friends just from the gym as well. I didn’t think I would really like this gym in the beginning but after consistently going it has became the place I look forward to going to.
I definitely recommend that you try out this gym and see what it has to offer. The staff there are very friendly and helpful and the community that is built at this gym is also amazing!

This particular Fit4Life location is severely neglected, and went downhill fast recently.
Start cleaning this gym every day instead of shutting down the gym to “deep clean” once a month. There is hair all over the floor and it bundles up. There’s always trash scattered on the floor. Instead of staffing this gym with young employees who sit behind the front desk with their feet up scrolling through their phones and do not even notice when people walk into the door, please consider hiring people who know how to clean daily.

Unfortunately, there are different brand/sizes of weight plates, dumbbells, and bars. Smaller size plates are scarce. Although it no longer matters to me, they have dumbbells up to 150lbs. They have a lot of lower quality body solid bars but do have a few Texas Power Bars if you can find them. They do have a good variety of equipment, too varied in my opinion. I think the cleanliness has improved. The child care is understaffed and now closed on the weekends. This gym is as busy as expected. Gym etiquette is on the lower side of the spectrum. Inappropriate gym attire (sandals, belts), large gym bags on the floor, PDA, and groups of teens huddled around a single machine. Not the worst gym I’ve been a member to but room for improvement.

Knocked off another star due to inconsistent kid care coverage. The entire reason we signed up here. Showed up and it was closed despite having scheduled hours on the calendar and no alert on IG or through the app. Took another star off for rating inflation as they were bribing specifically for 5 stars with free merchandise.

The gym itself is great, with plenty of equipment, and despite it feeling a little crammed, it works. However, my issue lies with the communication, and the Kid’s Zone. The hours clearly state on the website and within gym signage that the Kid’s Zone opens at 8 AM at all locations. Our home gym is the Shipyard location, and their Kid’s Zone is closed this week. It wasn’t until after I arrived on Monday morning and spoke with the front desk associate (who is so friendly, and honestly the best) that a notice was sent out on the app stating that it was closed. This lack of timely communication is frustrating for parents who rely on this service.

On Monday, we left Shipyard and went to the Murrayville location, where we had a great experience. However, on Tuesday, when I returned to Shipyard, the Kid’s Zone was closed again with no prior notice. Despite there being five employees in a meeting, including who I understand to be the district manager, none of them were available to help in the Kid’s Zone. This reflects a “that’s not my job” attitude instead of realizing that stepping in where needed could greatly benefit the gym and its members.

Today, Wednesday (knowing that Shipyard is closed) I arrived at Murrayville at 9:40 AM, and not a single staff member was behind the desk. The Kid’s Zone was completely empty with the lights off, and the only employee I saw was a personal trainer working with a client. Other parents had also arrived before me and were waiting with their kids, too. Thinking maybe the front desk or Kid’s Zone staff was in the bathroom, I waited with my 4-year-old. I even called the gym three times, hoping that someone would hear the phone and come to the front, but that wasn’t the case. After waiting for an extended period with no one showing up, it became clear that this was not an isolated incident but a systemic issue. This could have been completely avoided had a notice been sent out that the Kid’s Zone opening would be delayed.

Overall, the gym's facilities are excellent, and the staff, when present, is friendly. However, the staff's lack of communication and unwillingness to step in where needed significantly detracts from the experience. Parents rely on the Kid’s Zone to maintain their fitness routines, and the current state of affairs makes this extremely difficult. This needs urgent improvement to not only meet the needs of parent members but also for the business to keep its word and uphold a major membership selling point for prospective members with children.

There are plenty of other gyms in the area that also offer childcare, and if I hadn’t paid for my membership for the entire year in advance, this would be my cancellation notice. I’d even be willing to pay extra for this service if it meant consistent employees who are compensated enough to ensure reliable coverage.

I was a member at this club until recently. However I was told that there had been complaints to the manage about me. I must have done something to someone but I am clueless as to what.

I accepted their decision and have switched to Anytime Fitness.

The complaint I have with Fit 4 Life is that I should have been given a refund on the unused portion of my membership.

I plan to take this matter to the Small Claim Court in Wilmington.

When my son signed up for a membership, the gym assured us that he would be able to cancel his membership once he got orders for the military. He asked and I verified twice via phone that they would cancel. Now that he is at boot camp, they will not take any "orders" to boot camp or his eventual tech school as proof that he's "not in the area anymore". Absolutely ridiculous!! I have been fighting this for months with no luck. BEWARE of what they promise you when you sign up.

UPDATE: 2024-06-24: Revising my review. Travis reached out to me immediately and was able to get this resolved. It's the payment company that's an issue, not the actual gym. Thank you Travis for helping me out while my son is boot camp.

Haven’t given kudos to a gym in a while! But since Travis took over he’s turned this gym around in a complete 180! It was a trainwreck for the year before I left ran by children like it was romper room! Call me crazy but it feels like the Golds Gym days again.. and I would go as far as saying it night be better than then too! On a plus side this gym hasn’t played any annoying commercial gym music.. but it plays ACTUAL gym rock and metal music! And it’s the cleanest it’s ever been since the TruFit days! The manager even goes around cleaning and organizing, I’ve seen him wiping dumbbells and cleaning the locker room, unlike the past crew that just hung out on the gym floor talking or hanging out on the front steps! As someone who has been at this shipyard location since 2013 calling it home! I am Defiantly glad it turned around! Keep it up Travis 💪🏼

Fit4life is the best! I was nervous about entering a gym at the age of 63, and having not worked out for a number of years, but all the staff were so welcoming and encouraging. I have been working with personal trainer Sean, and he is outstanding! Always positive and patient, but pushes me to be stronger and healthier. Best decision ever to join this fitness center!

best gym in wilmington!!! i love the atmosphere, as well as the AMAZING staff! the personal trainers are always there to help you out during lifts, and the front desk staff is always SO friendly and welcoming! they have every piece of machine and equipment you could ask for. this gym truly feels like a home and a safe space, and i would recommend it to everyone!!!

I am extremely disappointed with fit4life.
I signed up and specifically told them that I was looking for a month to month gym membership. I decided to take my gym membership elsewhere because fit4life is SO busy that it’s hard to get a workout in without waiting on equipment. So I decided to call and cancel. When I called I found out I was in a year contract and I was NEVER EVER told that I was in a year contract. I specifically told them month to month and they agreed and lied to me saying I could cancel any time.
This place is a scam and they just want your money. They make it impossible to cancel. Just read the other low rated reviews. It’s not just me it’s happened to. Very disappointing and frustrating.

Wow, this is new for me... I'm on a wellness goal body ,mind, and spirit. I'm blessed to be affiliated with silver sneakers .So ....you know I'm with a certain age demographic. After the initial interview ,they offered services available . (optional of course). But the staff was kind ,friendly,and professional. They put emphasis on sanitizing the machines. In this atmosphere you could be intimidated I didn't feel that at all. *I do suggest when you have the complimentary one time coaching on suggested machines to meet your physical needs. Take a pad to write down the machines, reps, weight level. Sitting around is not the only answer.

The gym itself it sufficient but do not fall for their personal training. They will tell you whatever you want to hear to get you to commit to their personal training when in reality their personal training program is terrible & they are practically stealing your money. They have continued to charge me well over 6x past the length of time that I agreed upon and as energetic as the manager is, it is simply to get you to commit but the program itself is not worth it.

I have asked several times for the music to be turned down. They claim it’s impossible. No one wants to listen to the terrible music as everyone is wearing headphones. I can’t hear my own music over theirs. It’s disrespectful to those who get overstimulated. I shouldn’t have to wear earplugs to workout in peace, and a silent gym is much better and enjoyable to workout at. Safe to say if something doesn’t change, I’m not renewing.
