Looks nice but then how it’s run from higher management is very bad. They say, “now run under new management.” The new management is from the other locations that closed. The manager that was here quit. New roof they say is just them getting it patched, and then they try and call the companies back cause it still leaks. The roof needs to be replaced.. NOT PATCHED! The Sheetrock needs to be inspected at this point with how much the roof leaks all over the gym. It’s literally a health hazard at this point with mold. EVERYTIME it slightly rains they have 20 5gal buckets in bathrooms, all over the gym catching water. How much water has leaked into the walls and is now moldy? It’s a health a safety hazard!!!!

Seems like it's in limbo a bit between management turn over. The new PT director isn't very pleasant and puts off a vibe that she's bothered by being there. The gym has nice equipment. The building itself has a roof leak issue and some of the equipment is broken but they seem to try to fix it in a reasonable amount of time. I know they were looking into fixng the roof. They do try to keep it clean but there are times when it's not mainly the bathrooms. But to be fair, many gyms have this issue due to people just being gross. I still go there and have no hard feelings toward anyone. I have noticed the overall atmosphere has declined slightly since many left. Eric, Dylan, Alex, Gabe, Naj and a few others are gone. Seems like when they left so did the morale to some degree. Not saying anything negative about the current front desk staff. Abby and Chris are great but you can tell a difference. Hal is always upbeat which nice when you're not 100% feeling a workout but you forced yourself to go. Hopefully they'll regain that high energy feel when you walk in the door. I would recommend checking the gym out. Again it's a good gym that seems to be in a transitional stage. This is my honest opinion. At one time this was a 5 star vote for me. I don't see why it couldn't be again.

Horrible new management. Miss the old team. Worst gym in Winston Salem. If i could cancel my agreement i would in a heartbeat. They have ruined a community of gym goers who loved working out together. The roof is about to cave in. Everytime it rains, it rains inside the gym too. The mirrors and bathrooms are CONSISTENTLY disgusting. They change up ‘policy’ when they want. Fired one of the best trainers they had. Terrible what that gym is becoming. And please dont respond i do not want to talk.

Went in about 9:15am and stood at the front desk for 15 minutes while the receptionist walked around cleaning which is not the reason for a negative review. He comes up to the desk and asks how could he assist me. I ask about a day pass which he then proceeds to ask me to fill out a waiver. While attempting to pay for the $15 day pass, the card reader was not working. I tried several different cards and methods, but did not insert the chip as there was a sign on the reader indicating that the chip reader was not working. After advising him that the card reader is not working, he simply says “I wouldn’t know how to fix it.” He did not attempt to resolve the issue with the equipment which resulted in me leaving because I did not have cash. I do realize that issues with technology arise, but his lack of effort resulted in me never visiting this gym again.

The gym is overall pretty nice—good crowd and mostly friendly atmosphere.
However, something happened today that dropped my rating from 4 stars to 3.
Apparently, my current membership no longer allows access during the time I usually go (6 am). To regain that access, I now need to upgrade to a higher-tier membership. While that’s typical corporate pricing strategy, it’s not the most frustrating part.
The only way to upgrade is by visiting during staffed hours and signing something in person - during staffed hours.
Really? You want customers to pay more, but make it inconvenient to sign up to do so? You have an app—why not allow upgrades there? Or at least through your public website?
I’m not trying to be unreasonable, but having to disrupt my routine just to pay more for something I previously had access to is a poor customer experience.
Do better.

What a wonderful place Fuel Fitness is, there are very clean and no issues. People don't interrupt your workout very peaceful environment. My trainer Hal is very kind, and understanding my physical needs. He pushes me to I can get stronger and better. But so much that hurts, he is very experienced and knowledgeable. He is very passionate on helping me reach my goal. He even Helping me with my rehabilitation for my knee replacement and my Fused foot. And also a joy and funny as trainer. He really need a raise and promotion. Very outstanding person Hal is, honestly if he was there. Probably want be where I am today. I have lost 100s plus pounds and Fuel Fitness. Hal the trainer is truly a blessing.

It’s really not a good gym at all. Customer service is terrible. They won’t fix the roof so when it rains, they use buckets to catch the water falling from the roof. I would not recommend this gym to anyone.

Granted this gym is 24/7 and that's why I gave 2 stars and the time is convenient for me but everything else about this gym is not good in my opinion. I wouldn't want to post videos or pictures of the condition of this gym b/c it wouldn't be fair to the business. If you want to see for yourself, visit during or after a rainstorm or when they open and staff is available to give you a tour!!! Look at the upkeep inside/outside, the equipment, the sauna, the ceiling, the bathrooms and the staff (clueless) then form your own opinion. Or when you join pray the damn door works oh yeah....the 1-800 # to call ain't worth a damn!!!!

Everyone here is wonderful, but I would like to shout out Steven, Christian, and Ethan specifically. From the moment I called to see if I could stop by and tour, to my sign up process, they have been nothing but helpful, friendly, and accomodating to say the least. Dealing with men at a gym as a woman makes me nervous, but they were all nothing but friendly and polite. They definitely need a raise for all the work they do!!!

I used to attend this gym regularly using a One Pass membership through my insurance - active and paid. One day, I was suddenly stopped at the front desk and told my membership had been canceled months prior, which was the first I’d heard of it. I had checked in and taken classes multiple times without issue, so the claim was confusing and poorly communicated.
When I showed proof that my One Pass was still valid, the staff member—Chris, who isn’t normally at this location and isn’t even listed on the gym’s website insisted they didn’t accept it at all, contradicting my entire experience. Then he asked if I was on Medicare or Medicaid, which felt inappropriate and offensive ( they don't accept either) . As a young Black woman, that question came across as a microaggression loaded with assumptions and completely out of place.
After that interaction, Chris took it upon himself to review camera footage and specifically point me out, making a fuss that I was present as if that was the major issue, not the roof falling apart or the broken equipment. He couldn’t even call me directly to discuss it. I wonder if he also flagged the many people who don’t scan in, or those with “canceled” memberships they haven’t been notified about. Because I never received any written notice about a membership change. What I did receive was microaggression and a complete lack of kindness.
Good customer service would’ve been to at least let me take the class that day. I was dressed, prepared, and had clearly made the effort to be there who knows what I rearranged or pushed through to attend that class I’ve been taking for over a year. Instead, I was refused entry, despite the fact that the front desk staff normally welcomes me with no issue. That moment showed me exactly how little respect I was being given.
It’s clear who Chris wants to see at Fuel Fitness. Why would I buy a membership to a place that won’t give me the same respect they give others?

This gym has significant water leaks and by the looks of it- HVAC water damage- buckets on the floor to catch the water and other water leaks without buckets. The main issue is that this gym doesn’t keep up with maintenance or sanitation. People can be exposed to mold and other health hazards due to HVAC water damage and etc. They don’t seem to care. Sick building syndrome is a real thing. OSHA should check this place out. They don’t fix their lockers so many of their lockers are broken and not usable. They don’t clean out their sauna either. This place is a health hazard so if you ever start feeling weird after workouts well you’ve been warned.

Avoid this business!!!!!!
Do your research: many bad reviews at all 3 locations. Owner does not offer adequate services, maintained equipment, and a clean environment for the contractual agreement provided to potential and current members. LOOK AT THE MANAGEMENT REPLIES TO POOR REVIEWS: call/email for resolution - but the poor reviews keep increasing! Better Business Bureau and the local news take note!
Personal experience after being an active member for over a year at the Winston-Salem location:
Pits:
- no heart rate based classes as originally advertised
- ceiling leaks with buckets for a solution (not an isolated incident)
- AMP room speakers and televisions faulty and removed.
- equipment regularly in disrepair
- hygiene is not a priority (sanitize spray and towels rarely available)
- front door was in disrepair for multiple weeks causing a security issue
- rooms for classes are tampered with during off times causing availability issues with various weights and sanitized mats (this became a bigger issue when 24 hr service became available)
- opinionated app chat when addressing gym issues
- surveys not being received adequately: multiple surveys filled out with no results of mentioned issues.
- bathroom and gym trash not being serviced regularly
- classes may be over limit due to participants not using app sign up
- high turnover front desk employees
Peaks:
- best AMP class available
- 2 of the gym trainers used multiple times are well versed on form and individual fitness goals
Overall:
The gym took a nose dive after 24 hr availability. Attention to hygiene detail is dismal. Better options for cost available across the street. Owner does not provide their end of the contract. If you have joined, ensure you do not renew and create an honest review of the possibly unfortunate choice made (live, learn, and make others aware of your experience). If your looking for a gym that provides adequate service for the cost then look elsewhere.

I like this gym, nice equipment and good people here. Haven't had a problem with that side.. BUT.. the restrooms and showers are absolutely disgusting! I know this is a gym and I don't expect crazy amount of cleanliness but It's insane. Hair everywhere. Stains on toilets and urinals. Showers with hair and smells like mold. I have to go across street to use bathroom. It's a shame because they otherwise have a very nice gym with a good atmosphere! 06-14-25

I’m NEVER BRING MY KIDS to this KIDS CLUB NEVERRR again the owner should see the cameras, they are VERY DISRESPECTFUL having kids crying and not caring the the 1st time I brought them to the kids club. The young lady was very professional was very nice.
2nd time bringing my kids to the kids club last week this young lady named Georgia had this little kid just crying and crying my daughter informed me that my son would play with the toys and will try to go grab another toy so he could play with both at the same time and she will pick up the toy that my son had playing and put it back so when my son came back, he didn’t have the other toy to play with and when I first walked in, I said hello, how are you doing? This is the second time that they’ll be here and she was just so unprofessional like she didn’t care…..
and
TODAY
Ethan seem to be a cool young man when I first walk in BUT this was my third time bringing my kids to the kids club I thought today would’ve been a little different he wanted my son to pick up the toys which I understand, but there’s a way to talk to a 3year old “let clean up okay” <—like this
So my other kid went to help him pick up the toys because that is her sibling
Then my oldest told me after they were playing with the basketball the basketball rim fell and my kid fell as well …. And another kids was pulling on the basketball rim As well, I wasn’t there but my oldest explained everything to me , once that happen my oldest told me …. he told my 3year old let's go to TIME OUT my kid doesn’t know what TIME OUT IS , my kid is a good kid he understands with words if you talk to him calmly, he didn’t go so he PICK HIM UP and took him to TIME OUT. And he called me but I didn’t see my phone after 3 mins of the call & I came in and my oldest told me everything so I went to the Ethan and I said please never put my kid in time out without me coming first not in a rude way ….. he got loud with me , I pay my membership, how can refer other parents to this gym which they were coming to sign up this week ? when I did the tour with the manager when I sign up he NEVER went over the RULES about the kids club. if I would’ve known that staff are willing to touch your kid to put them in timeout. I would’ve never brought my kids to the kids club….. I would never bring them again, I’ve seen worst kids in there. One thing that Ethan did was apologize, but that after the fact I wanted to talk to the manager. I was mostly upset bc he picked up my kid to put him in timeout and because he was very Unprofessional Talking back to me… and I wasn’t going to argue with a person younger than me or in front of other kids.

I’m currently in the market of finding my new gym after being with Planet Fitness for several years. Fuel Fitness offers a variety of exercise classes which is a plus and has many great amenities such as a sauna and personal training. When doing a tour I noticed, the building does have some leaks and the ceiling in the women’s restroom had water damage as well. I decided that I will not be joining Fuel for these reasons because it seems like a safety hazard.

After joining an outside entity that pays your membership ( Active & Fit ) They didn't cancel my bank drawn membership , essentially double charged .
I called the manager after i noticed 5 months of being double charged he said we don't give refunds , after 5 or 10 min of (what kind of buisness practice is this) i called the Mooresville Fuel location to speak with their manager to see if this was Fuels business practice or just 1 manager on a power trip .
They emphatically apologized and asked if i would email my banking statements with highlighted double charges in question .
I did and didn't hear back for 3 weeks , i called them again and was told they forwarded my email to the owner and he would be in touch .
Another no call , didn't hear anything and i just dropped the matter .
Some months went by and i received TWO threatening phone calls from a rude collection agency saying i owed Fuel money AFTER BEING DOUBLE CHARGED FOR 5 MONTHS .
After another rat race of phone calls i finally got someone and explained the situation again and i was forced to hire a lawyer and go after the 5 months of dues plus the harassment .
The manager at the Winston location not only wouldn't help me with being double charged he didn't bother canceling my membership , NOT ONLY THAT.. turned me over to collections
lol ! ! !
The sales manager calls me after i threatened going to court over money i was willing to forget about and was glad to inform me he was removing the collections threat , apologized for his childish manager and never bothered with any kind of reimbursement of the double charges Fuel owed me and thought i should be happy for them not going after me for another 281 dollars of the fraudulent money Fuel charged and actually thought i was so happy that he actually asked me to write a review .
well here it is ... If a business double charges you and you show them in writing and not only refuses to give you a refund but keep charging , its not a misunderstanding , ITS FRAUD .

Easily one of the best gyms I’ve ever been to. Staff are nice, professional, and knowledgeable. The building is clean (so are the bathrooms). Great quality (the weight lifting gum is my favorite).

Overall, Fuel is a great place to work out. It is has a good mix of equipment in a nice open space. The staff is always friendly and helpful.
I joined Fuel with specific fitness goals in mind. To meet them I signed up with trainer Jack Binkley. Jack expertly designed my workouts so that I made steady progress week to week. He is very knowledgeable and always encouraged me to push beyond what I thought I could do. I definitely achieved my goals working with Jack.
If you're into group classes, check out Jack's intense AMP (HIIT style) and Total Body Training classes and Trish's Senior Fit class, which complements resistance training with balance, coordination, and flexibility exercises.

This gym offers great instructors and has potential, but I had a challenging experience with the manager, Nahjerrelle Graves. His approach to managing the gym was problematic. He was frequently late to classes, and when I addressed this issue with him directly, he responded in a manner that I found unprofessional. Instead of addressing my concern constructively, he made comments over the microphone and eventually canceled the class. Additionally, he informed me that I was banned from his class after I expressed my dissatisfaction with his conduct. It is unfortunate that this situation occurred, and I believe that a gym that prioritizes respectful and professional interactions would provide a better experience.

the gym itself is nice but they recently changed to 24/7 which means they drastically cut back their hours for their cheaper membership to force you into getting the pricer ones. the gym used to close at 10 monday-friday, 7 on saturday, and 5 on sunday. the fact they’re forcing you into spending more money is terrible. their attempt to get me to spend more money is only resulting in a cancelled membership and loss of respect

Not the biggest fan of this place. Squat racks are limited, and you have to wait unless you’re cool with awkwardly looking at people in front of you in the face who are also squatting. Put some mirrors between them. Problem solved.
The time of day you’re here, as with any gym, will determine how packed it’ll be. Go after work around 5:00 and you’ll more than likely be waiting for equipment making your workout last longer than it needs to.
It also consists of an overabundance of people in their late teens and early/mid twenties scrolling on their phones, so this often means groups getting together and taking up space/equipment. I’m more than likely not renewing once this agreement is up. This place isn’t worth it.

Idk i feel like they could have handled my son a little differently rather than just kicking him out completely and yesterday was the last straw for me as Tiffany yelled across the front desk to me we can’t have him here ever again ( made me feel very embarrassed as there were people sitting around and heard the way she yelled it out loud ) Very unprofessional and honestly i saw the annoyed face she made when she saw me and my boyfriend walk into the gym …. One of my favorite facilities in Winston: excellent machines, lots of space, and an outdoor option.
1) Machines.
As an aging bro, I really like the Matrix machines. As much as I love the Robinhood Y, the Precor machines leave much to be desired for optimal gainz. Fuel has two of each, so I never have to wait. Not that I'm training for the Olympics and can't do something else, of course, but the horror of not hitting leg press right after hamstring curls can ruin my day
There are also 4 step mills so I can always hop on, hang on, and try not to die. As much as I'd like to skip cardio, I can't use the excuse that the step mill is occupied.
2) Space
They have lots of it. For those that like walking lunges or just that optimal lighting for 1/2 rep bicep curls, there's plenty of room. This is the biggest difference compared with other facilities that have similar machines (Workout Anytime) or barbells (Jack King's). Fuel has the room of an athletic training center.
3) You can go outside! They have a dumbbell rack and some cardio machines on a covered patio, as well as a tire and some other stuff for hard work that I don't use. Curls in the fresh air without risking a sunburn, oh gracious me and mine!
Great facility -- can't go wrong

It’s a cool gym but who installed half of the equipment? Benches and squat racks aren’t centered, all crooked.

I love this gym. They have kids club and my daughter loves the staff at the club. The machines I use are always available and I constantly see people wiping down equipment when they are done. I’m so glad I found this place.

Update: I don’t think the gentleman I mentioned below works at Fuel anymore so 10/10
The equipment is great and the vast majority of the staff are very helpful. However, this Friday I had an extended interaction with one of the trainers during a free assessment that inevitably turned into a personal training pitch. For context, I recently started medical school at wake forest which has been limiting my free time. I mentioned this as a difficulty in being able to consistently lift and this trainer repeatedly mentioned how I am just using school as an excuse and am simply “not committed.” He said that I need someone like him to show me what real commitment in the gym can look like and won’t see any results otherwise. When saying that personal training is fiscally irresponsible for me right now, he was pretty forward in pressuring me and said that instead of “wasting my money on alcohol or on girls at the bar” I could do one hour a week with him at fuel. 99% of my interactions at the gym have been great but this one really stuck out

Been here since day 1. I'm loving this gym and imma do my best to stay at this one. Everything in this gym is brand spanking new. The staff are friendly and keep the place kept up. Also there's equipment in here that I've never seen at the other gyms I've been to. Definitely come by and check it out, what do you got to lose?
