I've only just recently started classes there for self defense for about a month and a half and I am very satisfied with my classes. They teach you the basics and how to defend yourself. They also allow you to ask questions for any situation that may happen and explain how to defend yourself in that kind of situation.
You practice on spot with other students and Master Song and correct any mistakes and misunderstandings you may have. I really appreciate them and would definitely recommend for anyone trying to learn self defense or taekwondo!

The owner of this Taekwondo school did not want to be up front with pricing. Instead, he offered to share the price with us after we pay $50 for a uniform and experience trial classes first. I believe that good business practices warrant that you are transparent with pricing from the time someone walks in the door, if they ask. Especially for busy parents. This allows the customer to determine if the service is a good fit. Otherwise, we are left to wonder if different families are given different prices, and the business is not equitable.

I had to have an entire conversation with the owner and explain why I prefer to have the pricing now before he shared with me that it costs $200 per month for my child to attend 2-3 times per month.

Or maybe that is just the price offered to our family?

*** I am very thankful to say that Master Song called my husband this evening and, we believe, a resolution has been found. For that reason, I have changed my initial review from one star to four stars. ***

We started off having a wonderful experience at Gold Medal Taekwondo however, their customer service is severely lacking. Our original class day and time was completely switched and with little notice. We rearranged our schedules to make it work but then, when we moved further away from the studio, we had a hard time getting our son to class. Traffic was always horrendous and with us having to leave at an earlier time he was not able to get a nap after school anymore. Each Wednesday became very stressful for our family! It was evident we could no longer make the trip work for our family so we called to explain the situation. We were told to go through Global Financial, Inc in regards to submitting our request to cancel our membership. After a month of going back and forth between phone calls and emails, they declined our request. (Global Financial, Inc was ridiculous to work with and accused me of cursing them and threatening them... which NEVER happened! I was frustrated, yes, but never did I resort to what they accused me of.) I then reached out to Gold Medal Taekwondo in hopes that they could speak with Global Financial about our situation. When I received a call back (after having to call several time because their voicemail was full) I was met with a gentlemen that I had never met before who laughed at me twice and then said he would speak with my husband instead. He begged me to give him “two more chances” even though I explained multiple times that we could not make it there anymore. He asked to meet with my 4 year old which I found odd. He then asked for my new address and I told him that I was not comfortable providing anymore personal information since I wasn’t sure who I was actually speaking with. He was very rude, laughed at me, and offered me no solution. He accused me of being very upset and I told him that I was frustrated because they were continuing to take our money even though we could no longer make the class. We still do not have a resolution. Poor, poor, poor customer service. I never once had an issue in the actual class (besides the times that they were teaching back bends incorrectly... major safety concern!) but trying to cancel our membership has been nothing but a hassle.

I love the old location in waxhaw cause that's the one I came from. I miss everyone there that helped me out with opening up more to others. Thank you GMT.

Master Song is the only reason for us to enroll our son in GMTA. Prior to enrollment we visited few other Taekwondo schools and when we finally checked GMTA, we decided to enroll our son based on the first impression.

Master Song has the ability to get kids attention but at the same time let them enjoy learning. He sees each child as his own. Master Song's dedication and expertise amaze us each time we see him teaching the class.

The school does more than just teaching forms, sparring etc. They reinforce good behaviour. All the instructors are so dedicated and sincere as well. They pay one on one attention to each child. To say it precisely, GMTA is the perfect mix of discipline and fun. If you want to seriously know or learn Taekwondo, then GMTA is the right place for you.

We are so Grateful to Master Song and the Instructors for the wonderful teachings and experiences which is going to help him for his lifetime. Thank You :)

We love everything about GMTA! GMTA promotes strong body, mind, and character. I love the philosophies the children are taught. There is strong emphasis on courtesy, respect, and focus. I have seen a growth in my daughter and her peers since we began in May.

I enrolled my son (who was 5 yrs then) to GMT and we have thoroughly enjoyed seeing his skills and character develop.
The teachers take time to get to know the students and are very personable, polite and firm when needed.
I look forward to my son earning his black belt there!
