I won’t lie, the gym has some newer equipment, but a lot of it is really outdated, and the mix of old and new machines makes the layout look off. There was blood on the men’s bathroom walls, and overall, the facility is quite dirty. Even the area around the steam room has a grimy floor that clearly needs attention. The staff is great, the people who train there are great and I’ve been a member since 2017, but the cleanliness needs improvement. The basketball courts still have the same flooring from when it was The Rush in 2014. Small upgrades and a deep clean could make a huge difference. Even if the older equipment stays, maintaining a clean facility should be the priority.

Great facility. Super friendly and helpful staff. I feel safe and comfortable working out at this location. Great class schedule! Sauna is a plus. I definitely recommend getting a personal trainer. I wasn’t sure about that at first - but the results are better with one (for me at least). Don’t quit - join with a positive outlook and you feel better. The best gym in town, hands down. It’s clean, well organized, and has a friendly but serious environment. Their equipment is well maintained and there are a lot of options to choose from. Do not join this gym unless you plan to stay until you die. Read anything you sign. I now find I have a 2 yr contract that you cannot get out of. Never had this issue years ago in GA and canceled my membership in a day and never heard a word. Here, even though I am moving and the closest Golds is 15+ miles away @ my new address, I still have to go there or pay to buy out the contract. Absolute B.S. Send it to collections. This is a true scam. I have worked out at all kinds of gyms for 40 yrs from FL to PA & have never had this happen.

The bathrooms are consistently dirty, humid, and have an unpleasant odor, which makes the gym feel far from premium. The cleanliness could be improved (PF gyms are noticeably cleaner). Equipment, especially the treadmills, is outdated and in need of upgrades.

I signed up my son for a 6-month training package at this gym. After my contract ended, they charged my card again without my permission, claiming it was due to an automatic renewal. I was never given proper notice of any renewal, and when I asked for a refund, they refused.

North Carolina law requires gyms to give clear cancellation instructions and written notice 15–45 days before renewal — I received none. Instead, I was told that because I initialed some fine print, they could keep charging me.

This is a fraudulent and deceptive billing practice.
I’ve since had to dispute the charge with my credit card company and am filing a complaint with the NC Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division and will also be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

I’ve been going to this gym since oct of 2022, The gym has new owners and they are absolutely turning this place around! they’ve added a new MMA club which i’ve recently gotten my friend the wresting coach job! not much downside to the gym. it’s big, has its busy times, as well as its dead times. genuinely my favorite place to go to every day. only thing i could ask for is a few pieces of older equipment gets replaced with new ones! (which they’ve been doing!) and maybe better gym music!!!

I wish I could come here more often as it's closer to my house. The WiFi never works or works very sparingly in certain parts of the Gym, and at certain times of the day as a worker told me.

I want to listen to my music while I work out. Having to drive 30 minutes from my house to the Wendover location really sucks, and I might consider going back to Planet Fitness when my contract ends.

I was a member here for over a year and came back this week to renew my membership after a few months out of town. They are under new ownership that has significantly raised the prices for no apparent reason other than greed.

A year of membership at this gym used to cost me $360, and now it would cost $680. I was originally paying $30/month, but they have increased the monthly price significantly and added hundreds of dollars of fees. There is no difference at the gym other than several cardio machines being removed, two new gimmicky machines, and repainted walls. The pool is still closed as it has been since COVID, and the wifi is still broken.

BEWARE: They now use predatory contracts that shady gyms are known for. They will lock you into a two year contract with no way of getting out of it. If you do choose to use this gym (you shouldn't), be sure you know what you're getting into.

This gym has become a complete joke. Go across the street to Strive and pay hundreds less for a better gym experience with a simple monthly price.

UPDATE: This gym has absolutely gone downhill. In addition, they now charge you biannual maintenance fees. The staff claim ignorance when asked about anything of consequence (I recently inquired about cancelling my membership) and will refer you to Peak Serve, though they do not offer a phone number. After searching on the Club Life app, I finally found the number. I just called Peak Serve to cancel my membership, and, surprise, they cannot cancel the membership over the phone! If anyone out there is listening, AVOID this gym at all costs!

The new ownership of this gym is absolutely awful. They provide no customer service and, when asked to speak to someone higher, they refer you to Peak Serve, their customer service department. When you call Peak Serve, the are nothing more than an answering service and can only be described, in the most polite terms, as frustrating and annoying. Caveat emptor - buyer beware before joining this gym!

I'm new at this Golds on Battleground. I've had the best gym/staff experience here than I ever have! I'm starting all over and they offered a free overall assessment from a Physical Therapist, who gave me detailed info. on how to get started properly and without injury! Then I met Journie, my new Trainer! Talk about above and beyond! She is outstanding with the training, inspiration and keeping things interesting. She also has a great sense of humor, which I really need! The staff speaks to you and acknowledges your presence throughout your arrival, work out and exit. This is the way you run a gym!!!

It's a good gym but does need to work on making sure everything is repaired with a sense of urgency. The sauna and Whirlpool have been down for a extended period of time. As big of a company as gold gym is they should be able to have it back up in 24 to 48 hours but definitely not multiple weeks

How sad this gym felt after the management to categorically only one star. Very disappointing beginning for the team; they’re very rude don’t even say hi to members or bye when you leaving the facility. I blame the “ GENERAL MANAGER” She don’t train the personal assistant in the right way considering their job is because we exist .. they are kinda of disrespectful the way they act. In total there are 5 soap dispensers in the male locker room oddly enough not even ONE of them have soap in them. The change in cleaning staff has been very evident these last 3 months but this is just disgusting. Recently returned to this location after more than a year and I have to say, I'm impressed. The pool is back open, they have a lot of new machines, and the place has been remodeled. My only criticisms would be that there aren't enough adjustable benches in the dumbbell area and I don't like the ultra bright fluorescent honeycomb lighting fixtures they have in the ceiling now. Other than that, I'd recommend joining! 👍

My husband and I have been members of this gym since 2021. We have loved it until very recently. Recently they have gone through a management change and made new “improvements” including a depressing paint update, removing an entire row of treadmills so you have to fight to get one, and the newest one: a $34.99 twice a year club improvement fee that both my husband and I will have to pay separately on top of the monthly membership even though we’re in the same household. It’s only a matter of time the monthly membership goes up as well. We can’t beat the convenience of the location but will be looking for an alternative gym.

Not enough of a machine, or free weights available for peak workout times.

Same folks just about every time claim and dominate the same machines and free weight benches day after day, and sometimes for 20-30-40 minutes at a time. All the while using their phones, socializing, and not actually working out.

Reasonably clean, but the cable accessories are thrown all across the gym, and most of them are horribly worn out.

Annoying personal trainer will try to talk people up while they are working out.

These problems are all common nowadays at Golds, LA Fitness, Planet Fitness.

I recently had the opportunity to visit this gym, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. The gym's limited equipment and lack of attentive personnel were noticeable from the start. I found myself struggling to get assistance or ask questions.

The biggest issue for me was the lighting situation. The gym lacks natural light, making the environment feel dim and claustrophobic. With only a few windows on the front side, the rest of the gym remains poorly lit. This seriously affected my motivation and overall workout experience.

Furthermore, the air conditioning system didn't seem to function optimally. The lack of proper ventilation made the gym feel stuffy and uncomfortable, especially during intense workouts.

Adding to the disappointment, the tuition fees turned out to be problematic. Cancelling my subscription resulted in an unnecessary financial burden, as they deducted an extra month's payment from my account.

In conclusion, while the gym may have potential, it falls short in various aspects that are crucial for a satisfying workout environment. I would recommend considering other options that offer better equipment, more attentive staff, improved lighting, and a fairer subscription policy.

Very disappointed with this gym, tonight as i was at the gym working out around 7 when the gym was packed, someone cut my lock off my locker and stole nearly 1,500.00 dollars out of my bag. Talked to the people up front and said oh its happened before and that i shouldn't ever put anything in the lockers, even though i had a lock on it..i asked can you check your cameras and was told even after all the break ins on lockers that they still never fixed the lockers...like what a good way to help protect your customers in your gym. If this happens often then maybe fix the dang cameras!!!!!

Decided to cancel my membership today for two reasons. Certain staff can be unprofessional and the equipment is very worn or gets stolen then not replaced.

The woman with pink hair and one eye said she might not cancel my membership because I signed the cancellation form in green ink... from a pen that was on her desk. Also beware, they make you cancel 30 days in advance or they will charge you for another month. Kind of a crooked practice in my opinion and is pretty much a fee for canceling.

Also, certain equipment tends to disappear or become damaged over time without being replaced. For example the staff has warped and ruined almost all of the basketballs by over inflating them - yet they’ve never been replaced over the 7 months I’ve been a member of this gym. Other examples are the worn out cable attachments and faulty water fountains.

Membership cancellation was told to be done by email or online. Back and forth several times then told to fill cancellation form. After the paper work 25 days' later, still keeping charge membership fees for our three members. We'd relocated to out of state already and didn't use gym one day in this month and paid. Why they still charge for next month?

The gyms manager, I believe it is a female with brown short hair with a name that starts with M. She was the absolutely worst at helping her new customers navigate the gym, she was less than ready to help and extreme rude/sarcastic. We are completely turned off from this gym and will be canceling our membership within the week. I do not recommend this gym whatsoever, staff is rude, it’s over crowded, and filthy.

After a year of confinement do to the virus I return to golds gym and my subscription was active the follow the safety procedure and after that I was allowed to enjoy the gym.
It was quick.

The people that work there are great. Make it very friendly. There are issues with groups working out together taking over parts of the gym. A couple guys workout shirtless which is gross.

I have arthritis so I joined Gold's to use the pool. On September 15th they closed the pool. I asked at the front desk why and was told it was for repairs. On October 5th I cancelled my membership because the pool was still closed and no one could tell me when or if the pool would reopen. Two weeks later I was charged the yearly membership fee. I went to the gym to complain about the charge and was told I needed to give a 30 day notice. If someone had been honest with me about the pool I would have cancelled on September 15th!

They do not adhere to Covid-19 cleaning requirements. The patrons are in charge of cleaning the equipment themselves. There is no periodic deep cleaning by an outside professional. Staff frequently don't wear masks or wear them incorrectly. Management is poor and doesn't seem to care. Maybe because they're in bankruptcy?

The gym did not notify me they would be charging membership fees upon reopening at the capacity ordered by the governor. They also tacked on a $49 annual fee as well. This is disrespectful during Covid as I have valid health issues of which Covid puts me at risk. I spoke to the general manager and he refused to remove any charges while the Governor’s order is to go to these places only if necessary. This is bad business and I am reporting this to the State, better business bureau and corporate for resolution. Everyone is struggling and every other gym I know has offered accommodation and sent appropriate notification to members
