Updated. I stayed a member of Golds about a year too long believing the word of the various managers who came and went who lied to members they were going to reopen the pool and stay open 24 hours plus it was cheap bc of Mission discount and close. Owner Matt Heald is committed to spending the least he can and squeezing new members with bimonthly charges. They charge the equivalent of $6 for no reason but call it an improvement fee bc why not? I found working out in 80 degrees unmanageable. The instructors Mike and Cynthia were great. Let me contrast this place with the Y. The staff is friendly, the broken machines get fixed in days not half way fixes after months. It is clean, it doesn’t smell of mold, the staff say hello, they don’t charge nonsense fees, no contracts, they don’t make it difficult to leave, they answer the phones vs having a full mailbox and impossible to contact by phone, they don’t hide behind a 3rd party app, staff isn’t a singular person hiding in the back staring at a phone, the pool and jacuzzi work. The walls vents and ceilings aren’t covered in sheets of dust and black mold. I feel mentally and physically healthier for the decision to leave this trash fire behind. It’s not real complicated. Care. For all you poor people expecting the staff help you discontinue your membership, they won’t. You have to do it through their app. They will email you when they receive your request make a copy of it, in case you need the evidence.

Wish I could put 0 stars honestly. These people will charge your card months and months after cancellation and then not even attempt for a resolution.

Absolutely horrible experience here. Not to mention they have faulty equipment, unkept promises on additions and maintenance, and countless other reasons to choose literally any other gym. Used to be a huge fan of Golds but it has clearly taken the greedy corporate route of gouging once loyal customers.

DO NOT GET A MEMBERSHIP HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO MAKE MONTHLY DONATIONS TO GOLDS FOR MONTHS AFTER CANCELLATION!!!

UPDATE:

Owner says to contact home gym to resolve this, and I do have record of paying that cancellation. However, Scott has refused to reach out to me to get this handled. I keep being told by the front desk associate “ I will shoot him a text to call you” or get sent straight to voicemail every single time.
Y’all have my contact info, you know who I am. Give me a call to resolve this please and thank you.

I did a seasonal membership with them for two months because I was from out of town. Worst mistake of MY LIFE ‼️It was a lot of hidden cost and I ended up paying 3 times the amt of what was originally agreed on . Several meetings and letters and 6 months later and they are still billing my card . DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF GIVING THESE PEOPLE YOUR CARDS . Fraudulent business practices and no one will help you to resolve these issues. Lot of empty promises. Extremely disappointed in the regional manager there . He told me that he took care of the problem but he never did. I am now back home to my original State and he refuses to return my calls. They are still trying to bill me and I am not even in that state anymore.

DO NOT GET A GOLDS MEMBERSHIP!

I’ve never dealt with a more unprofessional and disorganized gym than Gold’s. I moved out of North Carolina over a year ago and canceled my membership in person at the front desk. They told me everything was taken care of and I didn’t need to do anything else.

Six months later, I realized they were still charging me. I contacted management, paid the extra charges just to put the situation behind me, and was explicitly told by the manager at the time “Dustin” that my membership was canceled and billing would stop.

Fast forward to now—10 months later—and I get notified that they’ve sent “unpaid charges” to a collections agency. For an account I was told multiple times was canceled.

This company either has zero internal communication or intentionally squeezes money out of former members. Either way, it’s unacceptable. If you value transparency, honesty, or basic competence, go anywhere else.

I have had some issues with this gym especially for the monthly price and was very frustrated and wanted to cancel my membership. I was very impressed by the general manager Scott Worley. After I emailed all of my complaints and frustrations Scott personally reached out the next day by phone to apologize and explain the reason behind some of my frustrations. He was very professional and understanding. I am beyond impressed with his customer service. That type of service makes it worth staying at a gym knowing your complaints will be heard and fixed.

First and foremost like everyone else I want to say the staff is amazing! Literally the only reason as to why I gave it two stars.

Now for the negative. The gym seems wildly neglected. As of today there are ten TVs not working, plates in so much disarray it’s dangerous, and just everything seems run down. It is infuriating that more and more equipment gets crammed in while taking perfectly fine equipment away. There are pieces missing off of the bench press which then causes people to have to put plates where they do not belong. The pool “opening soon” seems almost like a scam. It’s just sitting in there running while we pay for it but no progress. As someone who has almost ten years of management experience that boils down to leadership and not employee issues. The only reason that keeps me at this gym is because of the lack of any other ones. The state of the gym reflects the attitude of the management/ownership and should be immediately corrected. Long time regulars such as myself have almost reached the limit of the acceptance of this absolutely neglect of a business.

On the plus side: Lots of equipment to choose from, bright and open.

On the negative side: They screwed me for an extra month of dues when I went to cancel. I canceled exactly 30 days before my next billing period but still are charging me for an extra month - so basically paying for two months after wanting to cancel. I requested an exception from the manager Scot but was ghosted. They don’t give a shit about you. Twice a year they also charge you for an extra month and call it a gym improvement fee. This is bullshit. For instance in July I was charged $70 total. Additionally, it is very common for there to be no cleaner or paper towels at a any given station, when TVs break they don’t bother fixing or replacing, there is often no soap in the locker rooms to wash hands, and they often have plumbing problems. There’s little excuse for these things if the gym were run well by people who really care.

My review highlights a positive experience with Jimi and Sean, whose guidance on equipment use and building a muscle routine was incredibly helpful and demonstrated their expertise. As a senior citizen eager to improve my muscle mass, I truly appreciated their support and personalized advice, which has left me feeling optimistic about ongoing assistance. This experience reflects the staff at Gold's Gym as knowledgeable and dedicated to excellent customer service, making my fitness journey more encouraging and enjoyable. Thank you both!

Franchises took over 3 Asheville outlets from corporate; they immediately closed one. New owner promised future 24-hour gym. What they DIDN'T say was that they were going to cut weekend hours in half. If you wished to use the gym outside the shortened hours, you'd have to pay extra. A rip-off. Also, the internet/wifi connection rarely works. When you mention it to attendants, they most often shrug and agree with you that it's unreliable. Another bad sign is that staff turnover is amazingly high; you rarely see the same person twice.
I DO NOT recommend this club.

This evening, on July 12, 2025, around 10:00 PM at Gold’s Gym, it seems that the air conditioning is turned off. It’s extremely hot inside the gym, making it impossible to work out, and in my opinion, this is dangerous for health, especially for the heart. Such conditions can lead to serious consequences.

I request that this issue be resolved urgently and that a normal temperature be maintained in the gym.

DONT BUY THIS MEMBERSHIP — First off, their pricing and cancellation system is borderline predatory. I’m relocating and tried to cancel my membership — they require a 30-day notice plus charge a $50 cancellation fee. That’s ridiculous, especially when I’m not even going to be in the area anymore.

On top of that, the gym is rarely clean, and equipment is constantly broken with no urgency to fix it. It honestly feels like they’re more focused on squeezing money out of members than maintaining the place.

And let’s talk about the pool. It’s been shut down since COVID and they’ve been claiming for two years that it’s reopening “soon.” Still nothing. No timeline, no progress — just empty promises.

If you’re thinking of joining, don’t get fooled by the brand name. There are better, cleaner, more honest gyms out there.

I was a member here for several years. The gym itself was great and the staff back then, including Jeff and Kurt, were phenomenal. Then, new management came in, raised fees, and promised upgrades including new equipment and a working hot tub/pool, towel service, among other improvements. Months went by and nothing happened — this was even before Helene. Staff were mistreated and many left.

Now, after more than a year without a membership, I returned for a day pass only to find that many of the “improvements” promised to members still haven’t happened. The pool was initially supposed to reopen in February 2024, which was later pushed to June 2024. In 2024, members were charged two separate $35 enhancement fees to “make this into the best equipped facility in town” with these promised upgrades, yet very little has actually changed. Outside of a few new machines, basic upkeep has been neglected — there’s still a broken TV screen near the squat racks that’s been sitting there for at least a year.

Save yourself the frustration. Look for a gym that invests in its facilities, treats staff properly, and follows through on its commitments.

I wanted to leave a review after finding out about the new pricing scam that this gym is doing. I want to be clear though this not the fault of the day to day gym staff (who are actually great people from the front desk/trainers to the manager). This is directed at the new owners who bought Asheville’s gold gyms from corporate Golds. When I first joined it was at the old Hendo location. I signed up for a flat $35/month with no contract. It was a good deal. Now, new members need to be aware they are paying double that of old members. Talked to a new member recently who told me they were paying $70/month that’s split as bi-monthly payments. So just know they can absolutely afford the cheaper payments because all the long time members payments haven’t changed. You’re not getting anything extra either, you get the same access I do.

My other complaint is of some members. I’m not sure if Covid is the culprit, but etiquette at this gym has gone out the window. It’s a minority of people but it’s becoming a massive pain to get stuff done as weights aren’t put back in their proper place (mixing weights, leaning 45s on the rack rather than just rack it etc) and not wiping down after they’re done. I spend as much time organizing weights as I do lifting, and it’s not the staff’s job to be your mom. Like I said it’s a minority of people right now but it’s a growing problem and it’s all age groups. I wish the management here would enforce cleanliness standards more but I doubt it will happen

After going to this gym for around 10 years, let me share some experiences with you.
First when new management took over, everyone was excited to see a transformation. Instead we got a PACKED gym (thanks to the south side closing down). “New equipment” Pft, that was stuff pulled from another location.
MANAGMENT, I got very mixed reviews about the past GM that many are speaking on. It seems to me most of the MEN in the gym liked the past GM (Mia). However any experience I had with her was not positive at all. All members got an email stating that there would be no overnight parking or they would be towed. When asked about the RV with a generator that was parked there basically all morning and evening her response was snarky. She replied “what RV? They must not be here when I come in, I have no clue what RV you mean.” Another time I let her know the paper towels were out in a lot of the dispensers on the floor, her reply….”I know they aren’t out, I just filled them all”. Lastly…..I reported a machine that was broken, she came over, moved the weight to none, said “look it’s working fine”. I replied when weight is on it, it’s almost catching or something. Also made a comment about the air and it being so hot, who did I talk to about that? She said me, it’s me, I’m the GM here. Which I replied, so it’s not ran by corporate? She said I’m the GM! I said everyone has a boss, she marched off. Very unprofessional to say the least.

Appears to be very poorly run. Used to be great! unfortunately since September when the new owners took over repairs, sit for waiting for a long time multiple promises of the Internet and Wi-Fi go on fulfilled one is closing putting most of the emphasis on Oakley had present well over 90% of the cardio equipment is in use and it’s only going to get worse and hell it’s not even 4 o’clock yet I have no idea what the new owners are doing. I’ve discussed with them I was told things would be getting better. Unfortunately, that’s not the case I would love to be able to speak with a couple of the owners not the gentleman who called me last time primarily because what he said, has gone undone , even the staff here and are far from enthusiastic about the way things are being run including their being kept in the dark guys. I worked in emergency medicine if I performed like this, I wouldn’t be around long I’d really love to provide but I’m not trying to be nasty. I’m just sharing observations. Things need to be done. They’re not being done this needs to change or else frankly you’re gonna kill the place .

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Without a doubt, this is the most unprofessional, frustrating, and disappointing gym in the Asheville area. I signed up several months before Hurricane Helene, and then the gym closed down. To make matters worse, they continued charging me. Despite multiple attempts to cancel my membership, I received no response.

Fast forward to April 2025, and I receive an alarming notice from a collections agency hired by the gym, threatening to ruin my credit score and take legal action unless I paid over $550 immediately. Initially, I thought it was a scam, but after calling the gym, they confirmed that it was indeed their doing.

It's truly appalling and unacceptable. To this day, I have still never received correspondence back from any level of management.

Since the YMCA reopened after the hurricane, my experience there has been the complete opposite—professional, caring, and supportive. I strongly encourage anyone to look elsewhere, as this gym is a complete disappointment.

The group exercise classes here are limited and seem to focus on silver sneakers. This does not feel like a traditional Gold’s Gym anymore since it’s been bought out by another company. I have asked management to address this to which there has been no response. After hurricane Helene, one of the improvements they made was to re-stain the sauna which smelled horrible for weeks and limited time where members could come in and relax. That said Caitlin, Laura, Joy, Deborah and Jeanne are all amazing instructors!!!! Caitlin and Laura went above and beyond and taught on NEW YEARS DAY which historically had been a big class workout day at Golds Gym but management didn’t ask anyone to teach. Years and years Golds have had extra long and challenging workouts to start out the new year and this gym didn’t have one thing on the schedule. Same happened around the holidays to which I expressed my concern but sadly no change to the schedule. THANK YOU TO LAURA AND CAITLIN FOR TEACHING AN AWESOME HIGH ENERGY CLASS. 5 stars to instructors!

*I left this review 4 months ago and i have edited it to include new information*
"We were promised a 24 hour gym
months ago. Instead of that....we have a gym that is closed at 3pm on a Saturday and Sunday? Where is that 24 hour schedule Golds?"
So after months of promising a 24 hour gym, they finally delivered. And then today I get an email saying that existing members have to pay an additional fee in order to get 24 hour access....interesting that this was never discussed previously when golds promised existing members 24 hour access. This email also informed me that they are shortening the general access hours
Monday-Friday 6AM-9 PM
Saturday-Sunday 9-3 pm
This is a breach of contract. I never would have agreed to pay what I pay monthly to go to this gym with such limited hours availability

This franchise uses a third party billing system called peak payment solutions to extract money from their members. Even if you are not under any sort of contract or commitment they will not allow you to cancel your membership directly. You are instead instructed to address it with the billing company. This makes it next to impossible to cancel the membership, so your only course of action is to simply stop paying them. Then Peak payment solutions will immediately start charging you late fees and will start threatening collections and calling relentlessly within a week of a missed payment. It is illegal to try to extort payment out of people, who are under zero contractual commitment to pay you, by threatening collection.

Nice enough people and it's a nice gym but if you move and need to cancel your contract I hope you have a lot of time and money to devote to the process. I've been trying to cancel my contract for 7 months and they still keep charging me every month as well as hitting me with an "enhancement fee" which I apparently agreed to pay every July but the changed the agreement to every January (even though I didn't agree to that). Supposedly they will be ending my contract that I asked to cancel last summer this February. the new owners should be ashamed of exploiting the vulnerable people of the Asheville area, for reference,
the franchise in Arcadia, CA is 14.99 a month, why is Oakley Golds gym almost 3 times the amount for a gym that is 1)over crowded and 2) not fully functional? some of us only cancelled our original membership because Golds Closed, and we had no running water or electricity… why are you choosing to capitalize instead of treating your members like humans?

I recently joined this gym about two weeks ago, and it was an incredible experience at first, but I recently had a very disheartening experience that inspired me to take action and be the change I wish to see. I was subjected to homophobic slurs and harassment by a group of members at this gym, but I stood up for myself and reported the incident to the staff, refusing to let hate win. Although I was told that unfortunately there’s nothing they can do about it, I believe that we all have the power to create positive change and make a difference in our communities. They claim to be "inclusive" on their website, but I did not get any sense of inclusivity whatsoever, and it’s up to us to hold them accountable and ensure that everyone feels welcome, included, and empowered to be their best selves. No one should ever feel uncomfortable or threatened in a place where we’re all striving to grow and become better versions of ourselves.

This facility has been in decline for a while now. It has reached the point that when you use any cardio equipment it’s a 50/50 chance of it being broken but unmarked despite the staff having been informed multiple times. Many cable machines and weight machines are in need of new foam or cushions. And if you like to bench press be cautious as many of the benches are missing hardware and are unstable. I’ve been a long time golds member and was with Rush Fitness before Golds bought them out. It’s really sad to see the downfall of Golds in this area.

Overcrowded since south gold's gym has been closed. Going switch to anytime fitness in south asheville
Updated Dec, 8 2024 :

I was surprised to notice that the lighting in the gym has gotten worse, look at these lamps in the locker room, they don’t work and there isn’t even a switch anymore. Look at the photos, you can see that the switch was simply removed. I took these photos a couple of days ago and you can see that the TVs don’t work, there are simply no paper towels at all, I went around several places and there were no paper towels anywhere, it was Saturday. The pool still isn’t open, although they promised that it should have been open a long time ago. To be honest, I’m shocked by the management of this gym because I can’t believe that the gym is getting worse and worse every week. Look at the trainers who work in the gym, they themselves don’t understand anything, how can they teach other people? After all, you can see the obvious mistakes that the trainers make and their disregard for clients, they don’t even show by their own example how to work out on the machine, I’ve personally seen it. To be honest, guys, I don’t know what’s holding me back from going to this gym until now.

I forgot to say one more thing, the gym has reduced its opening hours, it's just unbelievable how this can be done, although they previously promised that it would be open 24 hours a day

Truly disappointing customer service, when coming in to use the sauna with my mother who used her first free day pass as a new member, only to go sit in a barely warm sauna for almost 30 minutes without breaking a sweat, annoyed and concerned we told the Mia at front desk, who then informed us that it was off. There was no sign, no indication that it was off, we had also been sitting in the sauna with other confused members. Mia said this was not her fault and there was nothing she could do because they had notified members through the app. Which I had signed up for moments before and had no way of knowing. When I asked if my Mother’s Day pass could be used another day, she said no. Because we had “been notified through the app”
After trying to reason with her and explain that there’s no way we could have known that and since we had only been there for less than a half hour and were unable to use the amenities we believed we were going to use, that it should be perfectly reasonable for her to be able to use her day pass another day. According to Mia this was impossible and she could only offer a slight discount. With this being my mother’s first experience at the gym, this is extremely poor customer service and care, and with no signage or ANY other indication that the sauna was not working. A waste of our time and resources at a time in our city where so many of us are struggling and already in hardship. Such attitudes and poor management, poor service are extremely disappointing. Mia had a poor attitude from the very start of our visit when trying to sign in she was short and snappy with correcting me on the specifics of my membership. The man at the front desk was kind and explained things in a respectful manner, Mia however was rude and difficult to deal with. I do not recommend this location, not only are they charging members for a pool they don’t have open yet, they are severely over crowded and have poor attitudes to top it off.

Called earlier this year to cancel as I have never used this gym at all having been a member for a few months. Paid what I thought was my final payment, and yet to this day I am still being billed. Customer service is not satisfactory at all, I would not recommend based on that simple interaction. Incompetent.

This place has become so much worse over the past year or so. It's less clean than it used to be, machines are broken all the time, and it's insanely packed at all times. It also feels hotter than it used to? Not sure if they just stopped using AC, or if the fans broke. They've been promising a pool for ages and nothing has happened, and they still charge an exorbitant amount every few months on top of your biweekly membership fee. Also, hurricane Helene happened and Gold's Gym closed down for a few weeks, still charging their membership fee. No empathy at all, all they care about is money. Stay away.

I’ve seen Golds Gym on the decline this year.

- The sauna is currently out of order and has been at least 2 other times this year for extended periods of time.

- I counted 14 flys in the men’s shower today. I’ll attach a video.

- The pool was supposed to open back up at the beginning of the year, then beginning of summer, then end of summer, now looking like “early January “.

- There’s no music in the Gym.

- Both Hair Dryers in the men’s locker room are broken and have been since the beginning of the year.

We have also been charged with extra fees and nothing noticeable has been done. Open the pool, clean the showers and locker rooms, and make the place more enjoyable.

Truly a God awful experience. You will be charged $70 for the pool and 24 hour service that they actually cannot yet offer! How amazing?! I don't know about you but I LOVE to pay for services I won't actually receive. Then, when you call in asking for help the staff is rude and unhelpful - doubly awesome.

I wish I had read the other reviews before signing up. Could not recommend this place LESS - stay away there are so many other amazing gyms in the area that actually have great staff, amenities, prices, and customer service. Save yourself the headache and money down the drain!

No attention to detail by the new owners and the maintenance/upgrade fee that they are now charging twice a year is too comical.

The Oakley location stinks as well (literally). It seems as though they made some cutbacks in the maintenance department. At the South location, they used to employ two shifts of cleaners, am and pm. Now, they must only do the morning because come night time, the men's bathroom is absolutely disgusting.

This Gold’s Gym took new ownership last fall. They promised to be going to 24 hours and they promised to be reopening the pool. Initially these promises were going to happen at the beginning of 2024–right after New Years. Everytime they announced a date and that date arrived they would push the date back. It is almost a year now and they have not made good on either of their promises.

I honestly don't understand the negative reviews about this gym, it has everything I need & is never crowded. Compared to my gym in FL, this gym is not crowded at all, even at 5pm. Staff is friendly, people are friendly & the female reviewer complaining about being uncomfortable is just crazy to me. She needs to find a woman only gym because as a female, I've never had any issues here. I almost didn't join because of the negative reviews but I'm glad I ignored them & did anyway.

We loved Golds Gym Oakley…until it was sold. The new owners don’t care about customer experience or their own employees.

First, I asked them to unfreeze my membership after being away, so they charged my account from that date of the request. Despite multiple visits, emails, and calls, they didn’t activate my membership for SIX weeks. Because of this I couldn’t access the app which is the only way to see schedules and book classes. They continued to bill be and even charge their new semi annual maintenance fee, while not giving services, and despite my complaints. I asked for a credit for at least one month and they refuse. Worse, they hide behind others. The local management has zero empowerment and insist you have to use the app to talk to the owners, then the app response points back to local management. When pushed further the app response basically said we are a third party servicer and can’t help. The owners include no ability to contact them on their site.

They have a “policy” of only allowing a two month freeze, yet it appears to be applied inconsistently, I assume based on how much $ you spend on training. So the disparate treatment is frustrating.

Despite paying $ for training sessions, if you don’t use them within a certain time period, they expire. I had to battle to keep sessions despite the only reason I couldn’t make them is the trainer got sick. Don’t get me wrong, people get sick and I understand that, but that should be taken into account. By the way, I loved my trainer, she’s awesome, so I’m sad I have to walk away as a matter of principle.

They don’t realize, people have options. Now I use the Raquet club (and they actually have a pool - something new owners promised when they started adding fees, but didn’t deliver). The training is substantially cheaper and the management better.

The equipment is amazing- they have everything you could ever want, and the staff is really friendly! However, there are often very few women here. It's always almost all men. Most everyone is friendly but there are some creepy guys and more men coming up to talk (usually politely but still in the middle of sets, multiple times a workout etc, which for me isn't ideal because I usually just want to get a workout in and go) than at any other gym I've ever been at. I find myself looking around making sure no one is being weird and feeling uncomfortable more often here than other gyms. Overall a really good gym, but if you are a woman/young woman and are looking for a gym that just feels safe and comfortable this might be more of a challenge.

Golds Gym ceased operation of their Hendersonville Rd club. According to their contract, see section 3, an alternative facility must be made available within 5 miles. The alternatives now exceeds 11 miles of bumper to bumper traffic on Hendersonville Rd to Oakley. An hour drive one way. This location is super crowded now! Closing the other location was a mistake. Pool never reopened despite us being charged an extra $70 for "improvements" that never happened. The new equipment they put in is mostly just old ones from the location they closed and some are very worn. They removed a whole row of treadmills and now it's very difficult get an open treadmill. They only have one ab machine when it is one of the most popular ones and always in use. There are always multiple equipments that are broken for long periods of time. This gym went way downhill now that it is privately owed.

A classic place with the right equipment and new management in place to lower the experience enough by not keeping up with the cleaning, adding additional fees, making contractual guidelines stickier to deal with, and overcrowding the machines all lead to an easy exit.

The vibe combined with business practices is now running off several members.

The only bonus about Gold’s is that their old Hendersonville Road location gave Trader Joe’s another option of building south of town.

This garbage business just went from corporate ownership to franchise, and its become horrible ever since. They got rid of 1/4 of the cardio equipment for no reason, membership fees went up, wifi went away (its been 3 months now!), and none of the supposed increased hours or "improvements" have happened. Then they just started charging arbitrarily a fee for renovating the gym. ISN'T THAT SUPPOSED TO BE PAID FOR BY MEMBERSHIP FEES? You have customers paying $650 per year and you have the AUDACITY to just start charging a fee out of nowhere for another $75 per year? In what world does $750 per year make sense for a gym membership? AND THE POOL ISN'T EVEN OPEN. It used to be less than $300 per year in 2019 before COVID, and back then you had a pool! Well, good luck "rennovating". You just lost another long term member, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

The new management is severely mismanaging the gym. It was quite bold of them to close the Hendersonville Road location and implement a semi-annual fee of $35, which has not led to any enhancements in the gym's equipment. Consequently, the cost of membership has increased, the gym is now overcrowded with three times the regular number of members, and none of the improvements that were pledged have been realized.

Honestly, Im going to go to Planet Fitness as it is solid, organized and not over crowded and best of all PF is TRANSPARENT and not trying to churn a dollar by ripping people off. Edit/add- now they are charging ANOTHER bi-annual fee in addition to club improvement fee. I did a dispute on my “improvement fee” and won. Y’all should too. This review section made my morning, Seems like I am not the only one pissed off. I managed a high end gym before and this pathetic cash grab is not a contract obligation so stand up for yourself.

Don’t trust what they say on site when joining. Assistant manager is the one who signed me up and lied to my face about potential fees that “they would never charge”. They offload their customer service inquiries to a third party that just uses the “we are a third party” excuse.

The new management is predatory. We used to go to the gold's gym on Hendersonville Road, but they decided to close that location and force us to redirect to the Gold's gym at Oakley Plaza. Can you believe it? This new gym is ridiculously small and lacks a women's room where we can have some privacy while working out. The equipment and space are so poorly utilized, it's infuriating. They have a crossfit room that is completely unused at night, but they won't let us use it. Instead, we're left struggling to do exercises like hip thrusts and goblet squats in the cramped upper body section, constantly being bothered by men. There's another space in front of the treadmills, but it doesn't even have weights. So, we're forced to move plates from one side of the gym to the other just to have enough room to workout. The Gold's Fit room is closed to us at night, even though there's already not enough space for the number of people using this gym. And to add insult to injury, they've closed the Gold's Burn room and the Gold's Cycle as well, all in the name of "cleanliness" and to make even less room for paying clients. We're expected to sign a two-year contract, but nobody bothered to ask for our opinion when they closed the location that was actually convenient for us. This is absolutely unacceptable. We pay you good money for more than this! We demand changes.

I have some concerns regarding this location as it appears to be insufficient in size to accommodate the new clientele who were redirected here after the Henderson Road branch closed. Additionally, the equipment provided does not meet the needs of its customers. It seems that the staff intentionally restrict access to certain rooms for their own comfort. This is quite disheartening considering that the customers expect a complete gym experience. Furthermore, I have noticed a front desk associate behaving inappropriately towards my wife, which may escalate into a significant issue if it persists. It is important to note that my purpose for being here does not involve such matters. Closing the Henderson Road branch may have been a misjudgment.

This is the “Cadillac” of all gyms in Asheville IMHO. It is spacious and full of up to date, fairly well maintained equipment and lots to choose from. Staff is friendly and Mgr Steve is responsive and pleasant. Biggest complaint is maintainence staff mopping/clean during workout times with extremely strong smelling chemicals that overwhelm the facility. The air is toxic in there at 10AM weekdays, which is completely counter to why we are all there. Cannot understand why this doesn’t happen after hours. Have requested multiple times that at the very least, they use * green* products. Also bummed, no Wi-Fi for over a week now, but understand they are “ switching over” and this will soon be corrected. If it wasn’t for the chemicals we are forced to breath, I would give this gym 6 out of 5 stars.

This is by far the best run Golds gym in the area. I had an issue that was not resolved to my satisfaction for many months, but as soon as I as I spoke with GM Steve Greene, who in turn spoke with Henry Gaisford, it was solved! Steve has those perfect management skills that are getting more rare by the day. A genuinely nice, sincere person who pays attention to his members and takes pride in his gym. I cannot speak highly enough about him! And you can see the people training with him respect and admire him as well. (The only complaint I have is that the German company who bought Golds shut down all the aquatics! It's a shame and I personally know MANY people who have cancelled their Golds memberships over this and now go to the Y, but would gladly come back to Golds in a heartbeat if they reopened the aquatics. Many people need aquatics and the pool and hot tub at this location were like brand new. There are plenty of gyms all over for young guys who just want to lift heavy weights and grunt. This Golds is beautiful, and WAS the kind of place the whole family enjoyed...back when our parents and grandparents could go to aquatics classes and we could all relax our sore muscles in the hot tub. Whether we lifted too heavy, pulled a muscle, or had medical issues, the hot tub was a lifesaver. Shame on the new owners for shutting down this pool and not caring about our stiff muscles. I bet the new CEO has a hot tub 😒. The aquatics were what set Golds apart from all the other gyms.)

All of the reviews about scams are true. Despite voicing my concern about this when signing up on Jan 30th for a month to month NO CONTRACT membership. I was assured multiple times that I could pay as I go, not have a recurrent payment put on my card and that the next renewal if I continued would be on February 10th. I had a personal issue and never went to the gym 1 day. I got a couple emails about the payment not going through but couldn’t address them until today, February 15th. Katie Hankley got on the phone and informed me that I need to send an email to cancel and that I owe payment and have been coming to the gym for 2 months. I asked her to read what day I signed up and she says “January 30th, so you’ve been coming for a couple of months”. I said “No hun. Jan 30th to February 15th is two weeks”.
