Hickory Fitness has been an amazing place for someone new to the area! From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed.

One thing I really appreciate is how seriously Steve takes security. I recently joined Hickory Fitness, and I couldn't be happier with my experience! The gym is clean, well-organized, and equipped with a wide range of machines and free weights, making it easy to find everything I need for my workouts.

The gym has a ton of options to constantly switch up your work out each and every time you come here. They are one of the few gyms that have dumbbells that go up to 140 pounds—-something you cannot find at every single gym. The gym is very clean, bright, and gets you into a “workout mood“ the moment you walk through the door.

Steve is a great guy! Pointed everything out and got us settled in with a membership in 10 minutes. It’s quiet in the mornings with not many people. Hot tub and sauna’s with showers. Owner is rude! Just like in most of the other comments. We were going to join. But instead 2 family members with memberships will be cancelling them. My daughter went with her Dad and cousin to get membership, instead of saying, that they do not accommodate 15 year olds. The owner chose to speak to them in a nasty tone, roll his eyes multiple times and just be flat out rude. I called to try to see what happened, he was rude to me too 🤣. As a small business owner myself I understand how important customers are. This man does not. And his business will go down hill because of his nasty attitude towards potentially paying members. I have never liked going to the gym because I feel judged, but Hickory Fitness is not like other gyms. The owner is friendly and other gym goers are respectful. I haven't even signed up yet, but I have driven by this place more than once. I decided to take a leap and go in with my future workout partner and really check Hickory Fitness out. The first thing to take note of is Steve, the owner. He is very inviting and a chill person. We spoke to him about an hour and learned he has knowledge to give. He isn't just doing this to make a living. He's doing it because he has a passion and believes in all of his members.

We took a tour of this facility. While the amenities such as the Jacuzzis, steam room, and sauna are great, they're beneficial to what it can do for your workouts, mental health, etc. The gym portion where the equipment is is very organized. The machines were clean and it is a small facility so you feel the personableness. There are several group classes offered, and I am super excited to take advantage of them to push myself and better my health.

Overall, the facility is great, and the owner is definitely someone to put you on the right path as long as you believe in yourself and stay dedicated. That's what I want in a gym. Someone who is knowledgeable and passionate about their career.

My girl friend and I are currently visiting NC and thinking about moving here. We decided to give Hickory Fitness a try, and so far "Steve", aka the owner seemed like a nice and accommodating guy at first. Steve mentioned that the gym would be closed after hours but that we could just give him a call and he would let us in. We thought this was great. On Saturday, 4/08/23 when we went to the gym around 2:30pm the door was locked. Steve immediately swings the door open and before we could say anything he spoke to us in a very rude and unprofessional manner. He was frustrated that we didn't call ahead and we apologized that we had got our days/times mixed up and that we understood he wasn't open. He continued to be rude to us.

This is not how you treat customers. We felt very disrespected and will not be returning, nor do we recommend this gym to anyone. It felt as though he was nice to us at first just to get our business.

I had really high hopes for this gym & after just a few visits in the personal training sessions, I felt like I was already seeing results. But even through those sessions, I had some trouble with the trainer. He felt the need to offer me life advice about things he'd never experienced, he gave me inaccurate information (that the sciatic nerve is only in the right side leg & that the FDA was invented to regulate bread, & more), & he continually made remarks about how his job was harder than mine. I just ignored all of these because I really felt like sessions were working but finally today was the last session. He was more rude & aggressive than usual, slamming equipment on the floor & his drink can into the trash. He tried to chalk it all up to me not following his directions, but he didn't give me any directions to follow. & when I suggested us writing something down to get on the same page, he said no. Also, regardless of that, his reaction was extremely inappropriate & disproportionate to the situation. I am a 5ft, 100lb woman & he is..large. As nice as it was to get relief for my shoulder, his personal training style is egotistical & a little toxic.

I’m editing my review due to the most recent experience. I was on a trip and had some money stolen and fraud, and was in process of switching bank accounts. The monthly gym payment didn’t go through (which I hadn’t even thought of) and I tried to contact Steve the owner through phone with no success, and email, he got back after awhile. Now when you sign up for the gym you pay 35$ for the first month, a key card fee and something else, and another 35$ he says you will get back at the end or be able to use in such event as mine. All he told me in the email was that he canceled my membership and I had no 35$. I now know I am the 3rd person he has done this to, just that I know of. I have since emailed and he will not respond why or where my money went. I have statements and know I was paid up on everything. Super shady, though I’m not sure why. I referred several people and spread message for him, which I now regret. There are several things he hasn’t held his word to. What a disappointment. This is my warning

10/10 gym. Trying new gyms is anxiety inducing for me, but Hickory Fitness made it easy! Has all of the equipment I need to complete my workouts, plus more. The jacuzzi and sauna is really nice, plus the lighting in the locker room is great for progress pictures, lol. After hitting a wall in life with my health and fitness, I truly needed a change. I came from a gym I used to call home. I was content/comfortable (problem #1). I need a change, somewhere I could push myself but also be pushed. I decided to take the leap of faith, break the cord and find a new gym.

Losing my 45 year old father to a massive heart attack 4 years ago, I’ve wanted nothing more than to take care of myself. It’s important but it’s hard to find a place that’s willing to help you and motivate you.

I have been here at Hickory Fitness for a couple weeks now, and I couldn’t be happier with the switch. From the welcoming staff to the motivating members, it is a gym will help you excel at your fitness journey. I look forward to waking up each morning to workout. My first visit and I see why reviews are all 5's. I was welcomed the moment i walked in. The gym is immaculate. Equipment is top notch. Management interacts with everyone in a most positive way. Front desk staff are awesome. I've worked out for 40 years and I can see I will learn a lot from Steve. I'm switching my membership to Hickory Fitness. My current gym acts like they could care less about its members, quite opposite from Hickory Fitness. This gym is not a social club. Everyone was moving and working out, not sitting on machines playing on social media. It is not a muscle head gym either. Hickory Fitness really is the "perfect workout" gym. Go see for yourself. When you buy a membership to this gym, you're buying into something much more. You become part of a community of tight knit genuine people. The atmosphere is judgment free and you can be yourself.

The gym is CLEAN! In fact, I've trusted this gym over others. Due to the gym owner's emphasis placed on keeping, maintaining, and reminding members of cleaning equipment after use. He also has a good flow set up to best maintain social distancing, with private areas for outside weightlifting or within the building.

The owner has a passion and vast knowledge for the subject,. I've been lifting for 12 years, hard science backed routines for 8 of those years, and a personal trainer for 5 years. Steve is one of the few people I trust with a question or advice.
