Hotworx – Gordon Road, Wilmington NC – Proceed With Caution
I’m a loyal Hotworx user and a huge believer in the brand. But the Gordon Road location in Wilmington? That’s a hard no.

Facility Issues: It’s almost guaranteed something is always broken—whether it’s a machine, a vent, or a room that’s mysteriously “out of order.” All seven rooms are rarely ever operational at the same time, and even when they are, don’t count on everything working correctly.

Booking Nightmare: Classes are always booked out—but don’t be fooled. Many are ghost bookings. People in Wilmington like to claim spots and then no-show. The front desk does nothing about it. You walk in, the studio’s empty, and you still can’t get in. No accountability, no enforcement.

Toxic Gym Culture: There are specific cliques—like the 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. groups—who act like they own the place. They’ll ice you out, making it uncomfortable for anyone new to share the space. It’s not inclusive. It’s high school mean-girl vibes in yoga pants.

Front Desk & Management: The biggest red flag is how this franchise handles transfers, billing, and communication. My wife and I relocated to Palm Beach. We were promised a seamless transfer or cancellation. Instead, they upgraded us to a national plan (without our consent) and continued charging us to make sure we stayed connected to that store—despite never stepping foot in the Wilmington location again. The GM? Rude, dismissive, and incapable of resolving a simple customer service issue. The GM is the largest issue and it echos to the employees who have no clue what they are doing.

Hotworx is a phenomenal concept—especially for those of us with chronic conditions like RA—but this specific location does the brand a disservice. If you're considering signing up here, I’d strongly suggest choosing another gym.

I should probably wait until I’m not so upset to post this review, but I won’t. I worked out here for a year, paid a year in advance, and loved every single employee I ever dealt with. HOWEVER, I had decided to cancel my membership after the year had passed. I called to cancel and was told you have to physically come in to do so. I did, and was greeted by the owner. I asked to cancel, and he laughs and says “We don’t cancel here. What we should do is freeze your account to lock your rate in so it doesn’t increase. It’s only $9 a month. “ I immediately felt thrown off and pressured to the point that I decided to agree. I was under the impression my account was frozen until further notice. Apparently IT IS NOT. I was charged $79 to which I decided to physically drive another 30 minutes away to cancel. I informed the girl working I had been charged $79 when I thought my account was frozen, and wanted to cancel as I am PREGNANT and cannot workout at this gym even if I wanted to. She was very sweet, understood my situation, and quickly called her boss to see what she could do to help me. He proceeds to tell her that I cannot cancel without paying another $100!!!!!!! My only option was to keep my membership for 3 months of another $79 a month, knowing it’s against policy to workout here pregnant, or pay the $100 to cancel. I was nearly in tears I was so mad. WHAT A JERK. So basically this man got another $233 out of me for absolutely NO reason with all of the freeze charges, then unfreezing my account, then the $100 to get out of being charged anymore. I can’t say enough good things about the employees he hires, but the owner himself? These people need to find a new boss.

There is NOTHING like this! I hate humidity, thing is this is not a sauna, it’s infrared heat and all of it helps you sweat out toxins and is good for fine lines and wrinkles as well as pain. I love exercising here! Only downfall is 1-2 more people can get in a hot tiny sauna with you to work out which gets cramped and stinks. I choose my workouts on my app when I can have the room to myself. Aside from the negative, this is a great way to quickly burn calories and workout. I actually can't believe this is a thing. First I went expecting normal hot yoga and was shocked when you went into a single sauna with 2-3 other people to do a video workout. By the end however I will admit the class was decent and the fact that you can go 24 hours was appealing to someone who thrives on classes only. For some insane reason I did not ask how often the videos changed.. silly me for assuming I would NOT have to do the same video workout for months on end. What a completely ridiculous concept. I could spend up to 2 1/2 hours in the gym and not sweat as much as I do in 30 minutes here. I love the multitude of work outs, and of course the saunas! Hotworx offers an incredible workout and detox. I absolutely love and understand the benefits of far infrared saunas so when you combine classes that consist of cycling, yoga, pilates and so on, I was extremely excited to try! I have been going consistently for a few months and I immediately notice an improvement in the quality of my skin, reduction of inflammation and pain in my neck and back from an injury, weight loss, more energy, more flexibility, better sleep and just an overall a more improved and effective work out.

The owners, manager Anthony & staff always welcome me and my fellow workout buddies and invite us to their friendly environment. The saunas & gym is always clean and safe. I am so grateful for this establishment for the great experience.

HotWorx is my new addiction! I have enjoyed each workout they have to offer and I leave feeling accomplished every time. This is a very clean facility and although we are in a pandemic I feel like HotWorx takes that extra step to make sure you feel safe. If you have thought about joining but haven’t yet, DO IT! It’s worth every penny!

Is there a six star review for Google?! Because I would give Hotworx a 6/6. Hands down the best fitness studio, reasonable monthly contract, friendly and knowledgeable staff! So many Different workouts to try, and burning twice the calories in a safe, clean infrared sauna is the icing on the cake. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, & JOIN!

I’ve been going to Hot Worx for a little over a month and it has been such a great experience! Especially with the pandemic happening worrying about safety and cleanliness, I love that each individual sauna only allows 2 people in it and you can be spread out. I also have the option to go in alone or just with a friend if I want and not be with anyone else. The ease and flexibility of booking and canceling classes is one of my favorite parts! There are so many options throughout the day and they are all 12-30 minutes long which is great for a flexible schedule! And LOVE that there is no penalty for canceling classes unlike other gyms and studios. Anthony and the whole team are always so friendly and welcoming and go above and beyond to make sure you have everything you need to be successful! You won’t get bored with these classes and you will feel so energized after your first time sweating it out in the sauna. I definitely found my new fitness home!

What's not to love about Hotworx! Great workout in half of the time that you will spend at any other gym, but is it not just a gym it is "The Gym/Yoga studio . The amazing Staff very professional and attentive, excellent customer service always available to the members with a beautiful smile. The studios are heated (infrared), I personally enjoy the Hot cycling haven't missed a day since i signed up it is worth every penny :) it is very easy to schedule your sessions and you can access the premises 24/7..
For anyone out there looking for something different, a great gym whether you want to lose weight, stay healthy or if you just need a soothing place with a great atmosphere were you can disconnect from daily stress and have a" Me time" try Hotworx no regrets!!!!!!

Hotworx is a great workout! It's something really different. I am someone who has been active my entire life. I've been a dancer, runner, tennis player, a strength trainer. If you are looking for the next level in fitness check it out, you won't be disappointed. The staff is very welcoming, professional & effcient. This place is spotless. Hotworx is definitely an awesome place for every type of work out. Whether you are looking for free weights, HIIT, cycling, yoga, pilates, or any other isometric workout THIS IS THE PLACE to be. I love that I have access to so many workout options. One monthly membership and I get access to what I would need multiple memberships for. I especially love this gym because it’s the perfect place for my boyfriend and I to go TOGETHER. He has his weights, and I have my Sauna workouts. If you’ve been thinking about it...I definitely recommend giving Hotworx a try!

I love HOTWORX it’s a different way to exercise. I can tell it’s helping me to lose weight and tone my body. Also the exercise doesn’t hurt my injured knee. My favorite is HOT BlAST. It’s just 12.5 minutes of exercise but I feel like did an hour.

Love the workouts at HOTWORX! They are challenging but with the infrared heat, the soreness is minimal! There is also such a variety that it helps with boredom of workouts and you work different muscle groups with each one for a truly whole body workout! The staff is great and always very helpful! This place is awesome! Working out in 120+ degrees will force your heart to work harder than normal to stay cool, resulting in a more intense workout. I felt as exhausted after one 15 minute session in the sauna as I did after a half hour run!
