This is a beautiful course with a fantastic layout, but unfortunately, it's poorly managed. On a recent Saturday, there was a group of five players on the course, which is highly unusual for a saturday. To make matters worse, a cart boy approached us mid-round asking if we had paid and requested our names, something that felt disorganized and unprofessional, especially for a course of this caliber. They need a starter to manage things..

Lane Tree is a phenomenal course! It’s in great shape. The staff is A+! I play a lot of golf. If you call this course and book a tee time they are helpful and extremely friendly! You don’t see that much anymore. I feel most courses want you to book online. I’m “old school” and like to call sometimes and book my tee time. You don’t get any negative feedback doing that. I 100% recommend!

Today was my first every visiting the restaurant and I'm shame to say I have lived in Goldsboro all my adult life. As soon as I walked in the guy behind the counter was very friendly. I can tell some of the customers were regulars from the way he interacted with them. The food was awesome. I will most definitely be back and maybe sit down and eat. EDIT 8/4/2025 - Yesterday was the last time I give this course any of my money. I hate it as it is a decent, fun layout and close to the house but they want you to play speed racer golf out here and I'm just not doing it. We were stopped by the ranger on the THIRD HOLE and asked to pick up the pace of play, was told "everyone is getting spoken to, nothing personal", but was then watched by the same ranger the entire time we played #4. Never once spoke to anyone else, and it was obvious we were singled out. This was definitely "personal", more like disrespectful and their ranger was borderline harassing us at this point. On a BUSY 80 DEGREE CART PATH ONLY DAY. After My group paid their money like everyone else did. They literally have a sign in the pro shop that states "a round of golf should take 4 hours", but yet rush people to play faster than pace of play. Maybe ALL golf courses should quit being greedy and allow more time in between tee times. The lack of golf etiquette in the patrons of this course is amazing, but if they are members with the same mentality as the staff it makes perfect sense. Seems to me like the quality of life of this course has diminished since the passing of Mr. Bill Lane. Hopefully one day it can return back to the course it was in prior years.

ORIGINAL REVIEW - I REALLY enjoy playing this beautiful course that is always well kept and has greens that roll true. The staff are always welcoming. I always recommend it as one of the best courses in eastern NC and the rates compared to the course is worth the 5 star review! But there is one older female individual who has now put a sour taste in my mouth on two separate occasions while playing here on the weekends.

Teed off at 7:50 this morning (6/7) and by the 5th hole, we already had one of the course employees riding up towards us. Nothing was said to us the first time, but he then returned on #7 par 5 to tell us to "try and pick it up a little." When responding that the group in front of us is still ON THE GREEN within reachable distance, his response is "I know, we just have some locals who think they own the place". That told me this individual, who was 2-3 groups behind us, had already called the pro shop at least once complaining. Another employee returned as we pulled up to #13 and asked us to pick up pace again, but he also spoke to the group ahead of us so I don't know if this was related or not. Anyways, we walked off #18 green at EXACTLY 11:50. On a busy Saturday morning in June, I don't know what else this individual or the course wants more than 18 holes in 4 hours.

About 6 months ago, this same individual pulled up to my and my buddy PERSONALLY and told us we needed to hit into the group standing on the green of #10 because they were playing too slow. I'm sorry, but I wouldn't appreciate someone doing that to me, so I'm not going to do it to others.

If this person is not affiliated with the staff of Lane Tree, I would suggest asking her to cull her nagging back, or book tee times during the week when most people are working and the course isn't as busy. I live 15 minutes from this beautiful course and try to play it once if not twice, every month. It's people like this individual who ruin this sport for others. Why rush something you're supposed to be having a good time doing? If we were being eggreiously slow, I understand it completely. But I'm not paying my money like EVERYONE ELSE DOES to play and have someone bitching to the pro shop every time they pull up to a tee box and the hole isn't cleared, especially if I'm ON PACE.

I'm sure if she's a member, my complaint will fall on deaf ears as I'm just a public player. But I felt the need to let this be known publicly as I can almost GUARANTEE this woman has done this to other players on the course. As far as the course itself, its an awesome track and worth the drive/money. Just pray to God you don't end up in front of this person.

Don’t come here if you’re under the age of 40, or you’ll be hounded and followed by staff even when being respectful and keeping to yourself, and given the middle finger by other golfers when attempting to let them pass. The experience my husband had today has really put me off of lane tree, this isn’t Augusta this is GOLDSBORO, North Carolina…. Better off going to Goldsboro Municipal.

Man think this is a great deal. I'm down from the northeast and this is a great place for twice the price. Of course it's November so everywhere is less now. Big grass driving range. Big two tiered putting green also . Challenging course even though it's not too long. Lots of ponds and sand traps. Friendly staff. Have only encountered friendly golfers too Will be back!

Right off I795 and I42, you can’t miss it. I was going back to Raleigh, stopping by for a short practice session.
What a nice facility they have there. If you want to go practice on real grass, not turf, you gotta go here.

I think a more fair rating would be 3.5. I heard the course was "in the best shape it has been in in 20 years", so I was excited to play it again. Some tee boxes were in very rough shape, but then again you can use a tee. Greens were quite firm, even though it had rained significantly the day before. There were quite a few bare spots everywhere on the course. I am used to my approach shots spinning back a bit, but not this day. Approach shots rolled 10-15 feet after impact. If this was "the best condition in 20 years", what shape is it normally in? The best feature of the course is the layout, elevation changes, large greens, etc. The worst experience of the day was perhaps a pin tucked back left corner of a green up onto a shelf. Approximately 8-10 feet just past the hole, they had dug out a section of the green for some reason. The section was approximately 4' x 10' and was clearly ground under repair. The green dropped off a few inches into this "hole." As large as the greens are, why would you put the pin just in front of this? While I enjoyed my round of golf, the overall condition of the course was a bit disappointing. That being said, I still like the layout and may try it again.

Bountiful Thanksgiving buffet fit for all. Love this place for holiday dinner with family. Reservations required 2 weeks prior. Service is excellent. A local favorite that welcomes non club members. They have a weekly steak night too! Jeff the manager does a fantastic job! The restaurants view overlooks the golf course, which is well manicured and beautiful. Nice stop just off the highway.

My husband and son just played here today. My son left his clubs in the drop spot to grab something to eat. His clubs were stolen, and we were told there’s nothing they can do. They were nice, but be very careful playing here. We were in town for a soccer tournament. Very disappointing and expensive to replace. We have a sad son.

First time we played. We had a mixed experience. Unfortunately the club evidently lets fivesomes play which we had to follow the whole round. The club house staff were friendly. The course has a great layout. However, they need a new mower for the greens which were cut uneven with scalped areas. We probably will go back and give the club another chance.

Update. We play here regularly now. The course has addressed the maintenance issues. No problems with fivesomes anymore.

I enjoy playing golf and the course is 10 minutes from my house. I was a regular customer playing 3-4 times a week in the summer but that’s sadly come to an end because I constantly have problems with some of the rude staff. Prices could probably come down some for the course shape.

For starters, the staff I dealt with was very friendly and professional. They need signs around the parking lot area for where the pro shop is, 1st & 10th tee box along with cart returns. The view (see pics) was nice for the most part. Some of the tee boxes need work as well as some greens. Lots of bumps, dips and divots and what looked like deep knee marks, possibly from people kneeling, on greens and one in particular was very bad(see pic). There should have been a $5-$10 discount for the course not being up to par. If you use a golf app and have Verizon, it’s sketchy and makes you second guess your shots due to network issues…this is not a fault of course management but just a tip for someone playing the course who never has, like my group and I. It was very wet from the 2.5” of rain the day prior. Bunkers retained a lot of water and were unplayable. Overall, my group liked it very much with it having the nice views, elevation changes and may come back.

Course is in great shape, fairways, greens and bunkers all nice manicured and when you slice off the fairway like I do your still playing in nice fairway grass. I played 18 with my son and had a great time. I thought we were going to be paired with another two but it was just us two, so my son didn’t feel any pressure having to hurry his shots in fear of slowing down play. It’s only the beginning of May, this course should be immaculate once fully grown in the end of May. We will be back!!

What a fun course to play! Has a variety of great holes for the very beginner or the expert golfer. It was February and the course was in great shape and even if you went off the fairway (which I did a lot) you were able to find your golf ball with no issue. There was even 3 horses kept to the left of #12 I think so bring an apple or some carrots. Can't say enough about the staff. From the initial time I called until the cart was turned in we couldn't have asked for a better birthday golf experience. The only reason I didn't leave 5 stars was because the snack bar closed a bit early for a Saturday (IMHO) and there was a slight mix up in the clubhouse that could have been fixed but overall this is a great place to golf. We will definitely be going back when it's a little warmer and the greens have come in for the season.

Wow cant believe how bad this course has gotten, from the tee box to the green the course was in terrible shape. The flags were set 1 foot from the edge of green or were put on a sloop so steep it was impossible to stop the ball near the flag, it would roll back 12 to 14 feet everytime.The staff except for the 2 ladies working the counter were rude and unhelpful, finally a member stepped in and helped with a question I had. Also we had a group of at least 12 young adults (out just to have fun) in front of us. One actually hit the guy I was playing with.I definitely won't be going back for a long time.

I’ve been playing at lanetree for over 10 years. Absolutely love the course. However, been going out there in the afternoons trying to get in 18 holes and they tell me carts have to be in by 6:30. I can not understand this at all. Try to tee off with buddies at 3:00 and they won’t even let you play 18 holes. They didn’t have rules like this years ago but it’s okay they’re about to lose some business.

Next, the course was absolute wonderful shape. Great fairways and perfect rolling greens. I cannot wait to come back and play here in the spring or summer.
