First off, let me say that I hardly write reviews. I want to write one for Legacy Strength because, if I’m going to leave a review, it will be because I truly 100% believe it can benefit someone else. There are 4 positives that I love about working out at Legacy Strength.
1). The Facility:
Inside and outside of the building are very clean. The bathroom is also very clean. There is also working AC to stay cool while exercising. Though the room is small, the equipment is set up to where there is enough room for at least 5 people to be in the same room and exercise comfortably. There is a variety of sturdy exercise equipment to work from. The floors are heavily padded for safety. The best part is that you can request what music to play while you have a great workout session!
2). The Trainer:
Mr. Tom is PHENOMENAL! He listens to your specific needs and tries to design a plan that works specifically for you. If you and a partner, spouse, or friend goes together, he will make plans that meets each individuals’ needs (whether you want to lose, gain, or maintain the same weight). I go with my son on the same day and at the same time. I started as very non athletic and wanted to lose weight. My son was more athletic and wanted to tone and build muscle. Mr. Tom gave us both separate exercise plans and nutritional plan ideas to help us both reach our goals.
3). Flexibility:
Mr. Tom has a variety of ways that he can work out with you.

2. At Legacy Fitness
3. At Your Location
You also have the option for him to give you workouts to do at the gym of your choice.
4). My Weight Loss:
Allowing Mr. Tom to be my personal trainer was the best decision I ever made! I went in May 22, 2025 (almost 2 months ago). My starting weight was 350 lbs. I currently weigh 297 lbs. The results I got strictly came from following his instructions and always trying to do better than my previous workout. I have also heard of other success stories of people losing 40 and 80 lbs. I also know he has successfully trained those who wanted to gain weight. Everyone is different, but one thing is a guarantee:
You will never reach your goal if you don’t start somewhere!

Don’t come here, if you wanna keep cheating yourself. That doesn’t fly around Legacy.
Matt is more than a trainer, he is a mentor figure. He will challenge and help you grow physically as well as mentally. He will show you that you’re not stuck, that you’re like wet clay. You too can be molded into something bigger and better than you ever thought. If you go to another gym, sure you may see results, but if you go to Legacy, you will see a new you, and walk away 6 weeks later better than you were before.

This place is awesome and if you have in-person training, you'll meet some nice people. I had Tom as my personal trainer and I couldn't have asked for a better coach. We started by talking about my goals and what I wanted to see and he got me started on good eating habits and a workout routine I could work into my week. I have seen results I am very happy with in the first few months, and my changing appearance has made me more comfortable and confident going to the gym on my own. Definitely couldn't have made this kind of progress this fast without him or Legacy Strength

Loved the vibes here!! Everyone was super welcoming. They have 2 really nice combo racks (TSS is my fav) and they have one with a fat pad. It’s a small gym with a tight-knit community and they have really nice equipment and kilo plates (a powerlifter’s dream)! Loved the LED lights and natural lighting. And the owner Matt is awesome guy. Can’t wait to come back and visit!

Matt is your guy if you’re looking for a solid coach that’s going to take your fitness, health, and mental state seriously. I had a coach while I lived in California but when I moved back to NC I wanted a coach that was closer to where I live and Matt being about 3 hours from me is slightly better than 30 something hours. I’m glad I stumbled onto Matt’s instagram page and reached out for coaching. Not only did he quickly get me geared up for an upcoming competition shortly after meeting me, but he’s also helped me tremendously in making my weak points stronger and in turn, making me feel more confident when I step on the platform. You can’t go wrong with letting him take the wheel on your fitness. Not to mention he has a super cool training facility for in person work that has a community of lifters like no other.

I walked into Legacy on whim on a random Tuesday in June and truly haven't looked back. Tom (and Matt by extension) have helped me build back my confidence, continue to push me to crush my goals one-by-one, and truly reframe my thinking around lifting and strength training.
Tom's ability to zero in on what makes his clients tick is something I didn't know I needed. He knows how to push me to be my best every single week.
Truly love this place. After years of being intimidated and overwhelmed by the prospect of getting back into lifting and into the gym in general, I can honestly say that I've never felt stronger or more confident. We work hard, and (bonus!) we have a LOT of fun.

I’ve always struggled with going to the gym consistently even if I was going with a friend. I would find reasons not to go and would eventually stop going all together. I have a couple of friends (Caitlin and Rachel) that talked about their gym “Legacy” and how much they liked it and the two owners Tom and Matt. I decided to check it out one day and met up with Tom. Let’s just say, the rest is history. He asked me questions about what I wanted, what were some of my barriers and what did I need from him. Just those questions alone got me interested. I signed up to work with him (Tom) twice a week on that day and it’s been the best decision I’ve made in a long time. He talked to me about meal prepping (he even tells me when Publix has a sale), he holds me accountable and checks up on me on days that I’m not working out with him. If I’m traveling and become concerned about what to eat and should I exercise while I’m away, I can send him a text with my questions and he responds back with advise and encouragement. After one month of working with Tom, we did my measurements again. I’m happy to say that I went from 166lbs to 154lbs and I loss a total of 9.5 inches in which 4 of those inches were from my waste! I’m WINNING with Tom and Legacy!!!!!!💪🏽

If you're looking for a gym that's: 1) clean, 2) has top tier equipment, 3) has a great culture and 4) breeds success - this is the spot for you! I have been here a couple of times when dropping into town and have always found Legacy to be immaculate with great space utilization. From the moment I stepped foot into legacy I have got nothing but love and support from every member here. I joined the powerlifting team in September of 2022 and that was the best decision I’ve ever made. I know what it feels like to be on a team that truly supports one another and wants each other to succeed. Joining a gym, as a bigger girl, has always been intimidating. After a horrible second pregnancy, I knew something had to change. Not only was my body unrecognizable, I felt like just the shell of a person. I started doing some cardio on my own, but realized I needed more. I wanted to be strong. I started looking into gyms and trainers in the area. Legacy happened to be the gym that could meet with me first, and I’m pretty sure that it was meant to be. From the second I walked in, I knew this gym was different. Both Matt and Tom were extremely welcoming. I was not embarrassed answering the questions I was getting asked about my body, health, and fitness level - and I made it through the first workout without ever feeling judged. By the end of my consultation, I knew it was where I needed to be. In only two months, I have seen real results. Not only has my scale and body fat percentage gone down, I feel so much stronger. Matt uses an app that tracks everything, including a breakdown of each workout - so I can always check my numbers and see how much I am improving. During each workout he is there pushing and encouraging me to get that last rep, or maybe hit a PR. He has helped me by changing my knowledge of macros, and setting daily nutritional goals to help fuel my body correctly. I feel so much better mentally and physically - and honestly, I can say that I am looking forward to continuing this new lifestyle and finding a new me. I am eternally grateful for Legacy. Legacy is an absolute pleasure to be a part of. From creating personalized routines, helping you set and reach fitness goals, and providing invaluable insight on nutrition, they have completely changed my life for the better. Starting out, I had very little knowledge about weight training. But in the few months I’ve been here, I’ve lifted more than I could have ever imagined and seen better results than ever before. I can not say enough great things about Legacy! Prior to my experience at legacy, I wanted to get into lifting but had no clue where to start and was very intimidated. I had gym anxiety and felt uncomfortable in gyms. I would look up workouts online but was never sure how my form was or if I was doing it right which led me to seek out help. I luckily found legacy! I worked with Tom multiple times a week learning how to properly exercise, good form and habits and cues to remember when exercising to prevent injury. Tom is a great teacher, explaining which muscle each workout is hitting and noting how to feel if you’re doing it right vs doing it wrong. Not only did I learn so much and get amazing workouts in but Tom and the whole “family” at legacy helped build up my confidence when it comes to the gym and exercising so that I no longer feel intimated by it. Everyone in the gym, including the other trainer Matt and fellow clients, has amazing energy and goes out of their way to hype you up and give you that extra confidence boost no matter if you’re trying to just finish out a hard set on a rough day or you’re hitting a new PR. They would make my progress feel important and cheer me on lifting 40 pounds the same as they would for the man next to me lifting 400 pounds. Tom would be just as excited about my progress and PR’s for me as I was for myself. I made great physical progress and hit multiple of my strength goals in the few months that I was training at Legacy. I unfortunately had to leave the gym as I moved out of state but when I am the gym by myself now I still use cues in my head that Tom instilled in me while I worked with him at legacy. I absolutely love this gym and will be returning when I return to the Wilmington area!

Legacy isn’t just a gym: it’s a culture.
Prior to joining, I had never weight-lifted. I was intimidated and I considered reaching out for MONTHS before I finally did. When I went for consultation, I immediately found a place that is way more than a gym.
In the short time I’ve been working with Matt, I’ve found myself getting stronger, feeling more confident, and even sleeping better. I have gained muscle - including adding 1.5 inches to glutes, which we all know is every woman’s dream. Matt tailors workouts to your goals, and is supportive and encouraging while holding you accountable. He has been patient with me as a newbie, explains things in a way that makes sense while still pushing me.
Although I don’t personally train with Tom, he is always down to cheer a PR or throw support my way and is truly complementary to Matt. You’ll find that enthusiasm and support from the other clients you’ll cross paths with inside as well. The encouragement and the positive, fun attitudes you’ll encounter once you step inside are unmatched. The space itself is clean and the banging music is reason enough to keep going. If you’ve been considering joining Legacy, do yourself a favor and stop waiting.

After 6 weeks at Legacy Strength I can already see results. I’ve lost 2 1/2 inches off my waist, shredded 5% of body fat and lost 7 lbs! Matt and Tom make it easy to follow a work out routine through their guidance during our work outs but also on our days away from their gym. Using the “Fitness App” that is custom tailored to my goals with a combination of the app “My Fitness Pal” days away from training sessions are easy to log and track. True professional experience. In the month that I worked with Matt he was able to get 4% body fat off of me while adding 3lbs of muscle. I visited this gym while on vacation in Wilmington. It’s beautiful and the staff is great. Matt and Tom are so welcoming and bring enthusiasm to each training session which makes lifting here so much fun. The facility is really nice as well. It has all of the equipment needed for powerlifting or regular weight training, and the lighting is cool too. Matt also offers remote coaching, which I started a couple months ago. I have already seen progress in my strength training and have enjoyed lifting so much more.

I’ve been training for Legacy for 3 months now and can honestly say this place is amazing. I started out by attending their B&B Wednesday night class. It is a great way to start out when you have little knowledge of lifting heavy, like I did. I have seen my strength improve tremendously throughout my training. The first day I showed interest in training at Legacy, Matt and Tom made me feel like I was already apart of the Legacy family. When I first started training with Matt, I could squat only 80 lbs and now I’m at 175 lbs, hopeful to hit 200 by December. They truly make each training session fun and enjoyable. I can’t wait to see what goals I can attain in the future!

This is my 24th year of having a personal trainer. I am 61 years old and feel that personal training is an investment in my health. When I invest in anything, I make sure it is a good investment. Well, Tom has been my trainer for 4 years now and boy has it paid off! He is truly dedicated (as is his partner Matt), to his profession. Very knowledgable and professional. He trains me for my lifestyle and activities as well as pushes me to get stronger within my abilities. I am an avid tennis player and Tom trains me to improve my performance playing. Safety is always a concern as far as what and how I am doing any exercise/lift. I have remained injury free and getting stronger every session. I highly recommend these gentlemen for an investment in your health!

Joined a workout with my fiancé at legacy today, it was like an iron paradise of all the things you could want to do in the gym. I was pushed to go harder, go heavier, and slam weights. I hit some new numbers and some old numbers I haven’t tried in a long time. Very encouraged to return and get stronger

Staff is great. Matt is helping me far exceed my goals way faster than I anticipated. If you’re into powerlifting or strength training this gym will get you where you want to be. Team atmosphere is great. If it’s more than just you in the gym you are sure to have encouragement. There is also a very cute baby that comes in from time to time

Legacy is a one in a million gym. From their barbells down to their cable handles, their equipment is the top of the line. But where they really stand out from the crowd is their training/coaching. To say that Tom and Matt are masters of their craft would be an understatement. I’ve been a trainer for 10ish years and while I haven’t had direct training from them, the many conversations we’ve had together have been super insightful to each one’s specific training style and knowledge of said style. They put great thought into their clients training/programming and truly help them reach their goals in the best way possible. The last thing that makes this gym stand out from the rest, is the amazing atmosphere there. When you workout it’s like having your own personal cheerleaders. Everyone is super encouraging and welcoming. You can’t help but instantly feel like part of the Legacy family. Highly recommend this gym or a awesome workout or even better training.

I've gotten to train with Tom for almost two years now and have been shown progress that I didn't even know was possible for myself to achieve. Usually I see workouts as a chore but with these guys I actually look forward to being in an environment where you're not only treated like family, but also can safely improve at a rate I never would have with just exercising solo. 5/5 for me.

I’ve worked out with Tom for several years. After training with four other trainers, he is by far the best. He listens to what my goals are and helps me achieve them. I always thought lifting heavy was intimidating before training with Matt. Matt not only helped me build confidence with technique, but pushed me to beat goals I didn’t even know where possible. I got a day pass while I was in town and had an excellent experience. This studio has everything you could want, including a hip thrust bench! The colorful lights sync with the music and makes for a great environment to get you into a lifting mood.

I started my fitness journey about 2.5 years ago after having my son and gaining about 80 lbs in my pregnancy. My only goal at the time was to get the weight off. About a year in, I had lost about 50 pounds by solely running but honestly I had no idea what I was doing so I sought after some help. I started my personal training journey with Matt (legacy co-owner and trainer) and it is HANDS DOWN THE BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO ME in my fitness journey.
I needed the guidance and structured programming that Matt had to offer but MOST importantly I needed the fun, friendly and supportive culture, accountability, and tailored programming that ONLY legacy offers. At legacy I have changed my "goals" at least 4 times from "I need to lose weight" to "I need to tone up" to "I have a boudoir shoot coming up" to "I am getting married." Each and every time, legacy heard me, stepped up to the challenge, and kept me accountable to my fitness goals the entire way. Matt's partner, Tom, with legacy even offered to meal prep and schooled me on macros so that I could further my gains with appropriate nutrition. Legacy changed the game for me y'all. My confidence has sky rocketed, I have developed an awesome healthy outlet, and I feel mentally and physically amazing. I would not have developed the love I have for fitness without them, no doubt. These trainers care and I am a consumer for life.

I have used Tom at Legacy as my trainer now for almost 2 years and he has been great! He always has a positive attitude and he has a plan each time I come to train. I’m 42 years old and I have worked out fairly regularly most my life with having several 3 to 6 month periods where I don’t work out at all. Tom has helped keep me consistent and he is not over the top. He tries to help me get on a plan that I’m comfortable with and he makes the training experience enjoyable. We have increased weight on my lifting each work out and worked at achieving new goals (which I appreciate). Also he is very knowledgeable about nutrition and getting on a food plan and then working that plan. Most of all he tries to make the work out fun while also making me accountable for what I say I want to do. I would highly recommend Tom at Legacy and would also feel comfortable working out with Matt as well! (Matt is usually there training someone else at the same time) Thanks again Tom for everything!

I have been working with Tom for awhile and have achieved so many personal goals in that time.
