This gym is amazing. It is aimed at folks who want to be outside a lot. I love hiking but years at a desk job have taken the expected toll on my strength and mobility. I've been working out at MPT for 3 months and can see a clear improvement in my strength. The best part is how welcoming everyone there is - there is no judgement, just encouragement. I'm so glad I found this place.

The programming here is unique and tailor made for outdoor athletes like me who have a primary sport (mine is Mountain Biking) but need a full-body functional strength program to support us to be more strong, better balanced, more mobile, and just better at our primary sport. You NEED to do this for yourself.

I've spent the last few years hovering between relatively fit and a little out of shape, but have struggled to find somewhere to go to turn things around. MPT has been a revelation.

They've got the right mix of know-how, good humor, positivity and a supportive approach that seems adaptable to anyone that walks in the door. The variety is great too. I came in for strength and endurance, but I'm probably going to check out the boxing and mobility classes sometime soon as well.

MPT is made up of real athletes and fitness pros who are fortunately also cool, genuine people. Can't recommend highly enough.

If you want to get ripped and prevent injuries, this is the gym for you. The coaches are kind and supportive with modifications always offered to fit your unique needs.

I mostly do the workouts through the online membership which are great because they provide video instructions and if you have questions, you can reach the coaches via e-mail, or Instagram.

When I do go to the gym, it's a lot of fun. Everyone is getting a high quality workout and kindly provide feedback on form as needed. The class sizes are small with a maximum size of 6 participants.

I am personally enjoy the benefits of less pain in my left hip from all the strengthening and stability work. This was a chronic issue for me and would make mountain biking and running less enjoyable. After 1 year of consistently doing these workouts, the only discomfort I'm feeling is muscle soreness that is resolved with foam rolling or a theragun.

As a mom who has a son who mountain bikes and plays soccer I wanted to find something where I could get some strength and balance training and my son could get specific training to level up his strength/abilities for both mountain biking and soccer. It's been a win-win. Coach Morgan has been amazing in training us and it's been both a great bonding thing for my son and I to do together but also has helped us both work towards our individual goals. My son also looks up to the trainers - especially Coach Morgan. Love the team and the philosophy.

After years of riding, I’m kicking myself for not starting cross-training sooner. I’ve always relied on natural talent on the bike, but after just a few weeks of focused workouts, I’m seeing real improvements. My grip strength has increased, I’m handling bigger hits with ease, and my endurance is stronger than ever.

This isn’t your typical gym—McHone focuses specifically on adventure athletes and tailors programs to your unique needs. The coaches are highly skilled, incredibly patient, and just all-around awesome people. I’m stoked to be part of the McHone community and can’t wait to keep pushing my limits!

I’ve worked with McHone for almost two years now and the dedication to working with me as an individual with knee issues has really helped me evolve into a super hiker. Coach Morgan is enthusiastic, knowledgeable and always on the lookout for correct form and innovative ways to work with my body quirks….I highly recommend Morgan and McHone.

McHone Performance Training is more than just a gym. It is a community of people working toward different goals in different sports. The coaches and workouts are spot-on. The personal attention members get in classes is top notch - like small group personal training. It is a very inclusive and supportive environment. Love being part of it!

In planning for a John Muir Trail hike this summer, I realized I needed focused physical training support. From the moment I went through the assessment session with Steven, I knew that McHone Performance Training would provide the targeted training I needed. I have been training at the Brevard site since December 2023. Coach Denise developed a training program for me that specifically addresses the needs of a long-distance hiker. She has systematically guided my progression through this program, making crucial observations at every stage to allow me to get the maximum benefit.
She also developed enhancements to the program that accommodated a pre-existing injury that had prevented me from doing certain critical strength-building exercises. It was a revelation! Every session is both effective and fun. Each week I look forward to seeing what she has cooked up for me.
I can attest to the efficacy of this training when, in April, I was in a mountaineering activity in the very snowy Sierras above Lake Tahoe. I was able to engage in and enjoy the activity due to the support of Coach Denise and the MPT team. Whether you are looking forward to a milestone activity such as the JMT or are motivated to maintain an elevated level of fitness, MPT is the place to go.

As a long distance cyclist I’ve always understood the importance of regular strength training. I’ve done it at home for about a year but was inefficient at best. So about 4 months ago I began working with Coach Denise. Working with her has been great. She is incredibly knowledgeable, creates a safe space for questions, is able to change plans on the fly based on how I’m feeling that day and is just a lot of fun to work with. The general vibe in the gym is great, I don’t get any of the stereotypical “gym bro” vibes I had worried about. Everyone is just generally chill and focused on what they’re doing.

I’ve, of course, gotten to a point where I’m holding more watts for a longer period of time during races. However, the unexpected gains, are really notable improvements:

1. I lost 20 pounds, making turns a lot more fun in loose gravel ;-) sskkkkkrrrrttttt
2. My flexibility increased so much that the stem on my gravel bike got lowered and seat pushed all the way back; aero gains from the gym?!
3. My booty got so much more muscle that I had to purchase a narrower saddle; for real.

This place is awesome! I have been training here for about 6 months to build strength for whitewater kayaking and ultra running. The workouts have made a big impact on my ability to meet my race goals and run the hard whitewater I want to run. I mostly work with Denise and she rocks, but all of the coaches here are amazing. Can’t recommend them enough if you want to take your athletic goals to another level!

Mchone has continued to impress me in their mission to serve outdoor athletes with strength and performance programs. Their trainers are extremely knowledge and have continued to pursue their own education to better serve their clients. As a physical therapist serving the same outdoor population, I love having a gym to recommend for my clients to continue their pursuit of excellence in their sport.

I love training with MPT! The whole staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and committed to help you meet your goals. I’m a mountain biker, I started training with MPT about 3 months ago and have seen huge leaps in my strength and mobility on the bike as well as over all fitness. I started out this year racing in Cat 1 and now I am racing Pro! Couldn’t have made it happen without these guys. One weekend at a race, I developed some lower back/hip pain. I came into MPT the following week and the trainers gave me some really helpful stretches, and Steven put me on the massage table and loosened up some trigger points in my back/hip that were causing the pain. I went on a ride the next day and was feeling great! These guys go above and beyond to help get you where you want to go, whatever your endeavors may be. They’ve done it with me, and I see them do it with others as well!

Love working out at Mchone Performance Training! Steven and Shona created a welcoming environment that is always evolving to include the most efficient and effective workouts. Not to mention they have both trained extensively and have more certifications than I can remember! They have an awesome, caring and personable staff, too! The coaches are encouraging, fun and they know their stuff. I feel super safe working out there because all the coaches have anatomical knowledge and the ability to modify workouts to each person. Their gym is for all levels - beginners and competitive athletes alike. If you have been wanting to get back into working out, move, etc., this is the ideal place to start! Thanks y'all! I appreciate you!

With COVID-19 full blown in 2020, I joined MPT because I felt it was the safest place to get a work out in while remaining outside and socially distanced. My expectations have since been exceeded. Steven and his team of coaches truly care about every athletes health and overall well being. I have never worked with a trainer who helps to hold me accountable for my goals and routinely checks in with me like Steven. The workouts change from week to week keeping the routine from getting boring. The coaches along with the other athletes give this training center a true sense of community.

I have been training with Steve and crew at McHone Performance Training for 7 weeks now and have definitely noticed an improvement in my overall fitness and endurance. I primarily mountain bike and Steve has tailored workouts to my specific needs for riding techy trails in WNC. Hike a bikes are a breeze now and I feel more in control on fast descents because of the increased strength and dexterity. I hadn't done any weight training for years, and thought I might get bored with it. Workouts at MPT are different every day, and they are unique functional exercises that engage the body and mind in different ways. We pull tires around the parking lot, use kettle balls, TRX bands, traditional bar weights, and do tons of other creative exercises and workouts. As a newbie, I feel super supported by the coaches at MPT. They are willing to teach me and are super patient as I am learning and progressing. I have always felt welcome at MPT and never felt intimidated or out of place. I was very inspired by Steve's motto: What are you willing to do? I think of that every time now on the trails. I guarantee at MPT you will have fun, work hard, and improve your overall strength and fitness. Come check it out and train with the pros.

We've had a great experience at MPT! The workouts are challenging and well thought out for what you want to achieve. This isn't crossfit where you jump in and try to PR with heavy weight every time. This is a gym environment for a fun, like-minded, and unpretentious group of outdoor enthusiasts who love to log miles in the woods on foot, bike, the rock wall, kayak, etc. Whatever your fitness level, MPT is an excellent supplement to keep you strong and injury free for the long haul.

I’ve worked with Steve McHone for 6 years, after spending decades going from one gym, coach or system to another. First, he is the most trained and skilled professional I have ever worked with.
