I've been dancing at Ninth Street Dance for over 17 years and it truly is a wonderful place! It is a fantastic atmosphere for adult dancers (and kids), with caring, insightful instructors. I highly recommend Ninth Street Dance to anyone looking to take classes to brush up their skills, return to dance from an injury or who just want to have a good time!

I had my first Balboa class last week and the teacher, a substitute (Dominic Hanna,) was the best dance teacher I've ever had. Instead of focusing only on steps, he emphasized that dancing is about connection--to the music, to your partner, to the floor--and about feeling. What a great way to introduce a dance form!

If you are looking for a place to take adult tap classes, this studio is worth checking out. In the advanced class, I’m able to brush up on my skills while still learning new things! The instructors are knowledgeable and patient with students and really connect you to the Triangle dance community. Look forward to coming each week!

Absolutely love this studio. My friend told me about it and we decided to give it a shot. The belly dancing class was really good and we decided to stay for hip-hop too. We loved both of the classes and will definitely be back.

Tip: It was a little difficult finding the building and it looks like there’s a restaurant in the same building but if you keep walking towards the left you’ll find the studio.

I have called multiple times during business hours. The phone goes straight to a voicemail. Impossible to get a hold of someone to change my upcoming dance classes to a different day.

Best place for adults to take classes. There are a variety of dance classes and teachers. I always walk out of the class, feeling great and loving the experience.

Instructors either cancel last minute or are unavailable. Staff are rude and unhelpful.

I found this dance studio back in Jan of 2018 when I decided to try a dance class for the first time ever as my New Year’s resolution. I have been coming here (from Raleigh) ever since! This place is so great!

The community is very accepting and so welcoming and I never have to worry about being β€œjudged”. I’ve taken many different classes and enjoyed them all. All the instructors have been great, so patient, and fun! This is a place for all to dance. I’ve made fabulous friendships during my time here and I would not have survived my PhD without these stress-busting dance classes.

Thank you Bepi, for all you do in continuing to make this a fun and positive atmosphere!

Have been coming since the beginning of the year and have really enjoyed it. Everyone is friendly and the classes feel very comfortable and for people of any dance experience. Such a way to de-stress, get exercise, and have fun!

Ninth Street Dance is so amazing! The atmosphere is supportive and encouraging! They're offering online classes to the community during these trying times and it's been so important for me to have people I look forward to seeing each week. If you haven't yet, take a class and see for yourself.

I love Ninth Street's virtual classes! They are engaging and fun, and each teacher has a great environment for us to learn. You can leave your camera off if you feel uncomfortable, which can be great for new learners. I particularly like their ballet and afro-caribbean classes!

Ninth street dance is my favorite local studio! Unlike other, stuffier dance studios, ninth street seems to celebrate the joy, artistry and exploration in movement, welcoming all bodies and experience levels!

Ninth Street hosts a diverse range of dance styles, including contemporary, modern, hip hop, broadway, and classes from cultures around the world. You've got to try Jose's hip hop for a challenging workout and creative choreography. Or Nicki's contemporary dance for a soulful, lyrical experience!

The flexibility of their make-up classes takes the stress out of scheduling, (while allowing exploration of other classes), which I truly appreciate. I also love their location downtown. The exposed brick, large open studios and colorful hallway graffiti give it an artistic, urban vibe. Currently, they are offering a full selection of zoom classes, for a safe and interactive experience.

My kid loves her online dance class! I was worried that a virtual dance experience would fall flat, but signed her up anyway because who can wait for COVID to end? She looks forward to it each week and thinks Ms. Emy is a superstar. It’s pretty fast paced and new to my kid, but I’m impressed with how much she’s learning. Highly recommend! We’ve already registered for the next session to make sure she doesn’t lose her spot.

I adore this studio. My daughter and I have each taken two classes here. For her (a 2-year-old), she got joyful movement and physical connection with me, plus a teacher with the BEST attitude, props, and even gift bags (!!!) at the end of the semester. For me, the improv-style and hip-hop classes I took were what finally made me feel comfortable in my body and soul again after having my first kid β€” plus the instructors are SO high-quality and bring a beautiful balance of skill-building, solid workouts, and sheer enjoyment. I can't recommend Ninth Street Dance enough. <3

Very affordable classes and such a wonderful community of both teachers and students. The virtual classes offered during the pandemic have been such bright spots in my time at home!

Ninth Street Dance is SUCH a wonderful community. The classes are truly welcoming of everyone and make movement available to all. The teachers are fun, supportive, and outgoing and the students are some of the BEST people I’ve ever met. My 3yo also thoroughly enjoys their children’s classes. Highly recommend this local gem!

I signed up for the Bollywood beginner class, however I didn't feel it was beginner level at all. The teacher went through the dances very quickly...we learned some complex moves all within 5-10 minutes....and then she would add more complex moves on top of those. I don't have a dance background, how am I going to learn complicated moves so fast??
I got very frustrated. The room was also packed so full I could barely see the teacher and had very little room to move around. I paid for the entire season, however only ended up going to 1 class and 15 minutes of another class, but they would not give me a refund. Would not recommend.

Ninth Street Dance is not only a neighborhood gem and huge community asset but it's also a national treasure. I've moved throughout several different states/major cities all with "strong" dance communities and none of them have what Ninth Street does. Every time I come home to NC, dropping into a class is like medicine for my soul. I talk about it constantly to other adult dancers/movers who lament not having a venue for non-professional, fun, relaxed (but still challenging!) dance classes for all ages and bodies.

I had a great experience here with ShaLeigh Fairbanks, a superb, professional and caring teacher. The front desk person was exceptional. The only beef I have is that the studio is up a steep flight of stairs and can be a little touch to navigate for someone who has had knee issues. The studios are in a lively area near the 9th street "strip".

I love 9th Street Dance! I'm 48 years old and have taken tap and hip hop here and am now taking ballet. The teachers are fabulous, and so is the staff, and we have so much fun in class! We learn a lot, and it's a great workout! There are also lots of classes for kids. Very happy place!!

The variety of classes is okay. Mostly a good place for adult beginners. The management is extremely not friendly to clients. Whoever runs the place is clearly someone who knows little about dance culture. The only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1 is that the tap classes with Whitney are phenomenal and highly recommended!

Great experience for two of our young children. The dance classes for youngsters are low-pressure, and more concerned with getting the kids to have fun moving their bodies than prepare them for recitals.

Ninth Street Dance is great for anyone who is looking to get back into dance, try a new style, or even start dancing for the first time. The teachers create a very welcoming atmosphere where students feel comfortable learning. As a person who works full time, their schedule is extremely convenient and they have a variety of classes. Also, if you ever have to miss a class, you can make it up in any other style which is a great chance to try something new. Their studios are also air conditioned which is nice, especially in the summer. There are dancers of all ages and experience levels which creates a vibrant community.
