I began taking Dr. Krista’s women’s weightlifting class in late August. As a woman approaching 50, I could feel the results of a pretty sedentary lifestyle closing me up. As a wheelchair user, I wasn’t sure what kind of gym opportunities would be a good fit. Miraculously, I asked North Durham Fitness if they had a coach with experience in adaptive training... cue Coach Krista.
I go three days a week with the most incredible group of women I could hope to be with. They are powerhouses, and I’m constantly inspired by their strength. My own strength has increased exponentially since I joined. No exaggeration. I’m visibly stronger, with muscles bulging that I didn’t even know existed. I’m able to do more at home and in the community. I’m far more independent.
I feel my new strength in the simplest activities, from loading my wheelchair into my car to lifting more weight in the gym than I ever imagined. This is the best gift I could have given myself. I’m only three months in, and it’s already changed my life. I can’t wait to see where I’ll be after a year, two years, and beyond.
The most incredible thing about Coach Krista and the women there is their attitude of support for one another. We all celebrate each other’s victories. Thank you especially to Coach Krista, who brilliantly adapts whatever I need so that I have the same opportunities as everyone else. A+

The community is great but unfortunately the contract is not. I'd highly recommend reading contract closely before signing anything. I was a member for almost 4 years. I moved to a new city which everyone knew was happening for months (and the other members went out of their way to be kind) and officially canceled my membership five days before It was set to renew. At that time, I was informed I needed to cancel 15 days in advance and would be charged the full amount. I asked for a partial refund of this as I’m living in a different city and will attend 0 classes. The response below shows how the owner treats the members. I’d consider other options if feasible.

I am enjoying the morning strength training class at North Durham Fitness. The owner, Amy, leads this class. She is very knowledgeable in her craft. She teaches proper technique and is invested in helping us strengthen our bodies. This is a great place to come together with other women to build friendships and muscles.💪🏽

My daughter-in-law Amy recommended this gym and I have fallen in love with the 6:00am class. Everyone is so friendly and Coach Bruce really takes the time to work with each person individually. By recent bone scan has improved and my doctor told me to keep going to the gym because it was helping me.

I have been a member of North Durham Fitness for over 6 years now, and I can’t imagine working out anywhere else. The community is so supportive and keeps you accountable, in a good way! I’ve been training at North Durham Fitness for a while now, and it’s hands down one of the best gyms I’ve been to! The facility itself is fantastic—lots of space, well-maintained equipment, and a great layout that never feels overcrowded. The location is super convenient, with plenty of parking, making it easy to get in and out without any hassle.
I participate in the women’s weightlifting program (see pics of what a typical workout looks like) on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and it has been such a great experience. The community is supportive, the coaching is top-notch, and the programming is both challenging and rewarding. On top of that, I do personal training with Amy, who is an incredible coach. She’s knowledgeable, motivating, and really helps tailor workouts to my individual goals.
If you’re looking for a gym that offers great coaching, a welcoming atmosphere, and a spacious, well-equipped facility, North Durham Fitness is the place to be!

I look forward to working out here, at North Durham Fitness. Love the Powerlifting class! It's a smaller class which allows for basically private coaching through the various movements. The coach is awesome at modifying movements as needed based on individual needs, and has extensive experience in powerlifting. I started this class several years ago having never powerlifter before, and have been coached through a surgery safely. There is also a mobility class that is super helpful for stretching after lifting. The atmosphere of this class, and the whole gym, is welcoming and supportive for all people of all fitness levels. Joining this gym has been great! Love it. If you're looking for a workout home: this is it!

I started here on a promotional trial after having my first child and wanting to get back into a workout routine. A little over two years and another child later, I’m still loving my time here. The couches are so supportive and give great guidance on appropriate ways to scale workouts (even during pregnancy). North Durham CrossFit is a wonderful community of members and friends, and I’ve gained an appreciation for and enjoyment of weightlifting and CrossFit style workouts that I didn’t expect.

This is the best CrossFit Gym because they truly make CrossFit for everyone. I started attending classes here when I was 6 months post- op from an orthopedic surgery. Every movement, every workout could be scaled to my starting level. (I started out with 12 inch box step ups, and one year in I’m doing 20 inch box jumps with my eye on that 24 inch box). The coaches are knowledgeable, attentive, and fun. I’ve attended morning and evening classes and the people you workout beside are great! They’re encouraging and kind, and love to see each other succeed and reach new goals. You couldn’t ask for a better fitness community.

Update: I have now been attending Crossfit classes at North Durham CrossFit for a little over a year, and I haven't slowed down at all! A few months in, I upgraded my membership so I could attend more often. This week, I got to participate in a competition. I've found not only better fitness and more confidence but also a great community of supportive people. If you're on the fence about starting, you should give it a try, regardless of your current fitness level or experience.
I've been going to this gym for about two months, and it's been a great experience! I had never done any CrossFit or weight lifting before, and the coaches were great about helping me learn the ropes and jump in. The other members have been welcoming and supportive as well. Special shout out to Coach Ewan for patiently explaining all the movements to me so many times and always being helpful with feedback! I've always struggled with establishing a consistent work out routine and staying motivated, and now I actually look forward to my CrossFit classes. I definitely recommend giving it a try!

Where do I even begin? I’ve been coming to North Durham Fitness for a little over a year, and I absolutely love it!
I have participated in the CrossFit group classes, which are perfectly sized — not too many people that you feel crowded or left behind, but not too few either!
Before joining NDF, I was skeptical about CrossFit. It seemed elitist, exclusive, and unattainable for me. However, the coaches and community at NDF have made CrossFit approachable and even fun!
The NDF staff are very knowledgeable and take the time to ensure the workouts are scaled to each individual’s specific needs — whether you are a twenty-year-old in college, a full-time mom, or retired seventy-year-old! This is - by far - the most accommodating, welcoming, and INCLUSIVE gym I’ve ever been a part of.
Perhaps the best part of NDF is the sense of community and support, both from the coaches and other gym members. Whether you participate in the CrossFit or the Powerlifting classes, the support, encouragement, and camaraderie at this gym are unparalleled!
While many people typically join gyms for weight or appearance-related reasons, I can attest that NDF will not only help you reach your physical fitness goals, but it will also positively impact your mental, emotional, and psychological wellbeing. I've been coming to NDF for over a year. Did Crossfit that whole time and just recently switched over to Powerlifting to work more exclusively on strength. I've really enjoyed coming here and getting to know the community; all the coaches are extremely knowledgeable and accommodating to any injuries. They'll push you to your limits, but also scale appropriately so you won't continue to injure yourself.

I've only been going to North Durham Fitness for a few weeks, but it is somewhere I can see myself coming back to for years. The owners, trainers and staff have been nothing short of excellent in my short time, from my first sit-down, to introductory personal training sessions, to 6 am sweat-fest. Recently I had a medical issue in which my Dr advised me not to workout strenuously, and everyone here has gone above and beyond to accommodate me, but also push me as far as I'm able. This is a great place to start or continue working hard!

I am no longer a member because I moved away from Durham, but I cannot say enough good things about this place. 3 years ago I started doing CrossFit and it was there, I had no idea of what I was getting myself into. Before this I was going to the gym on my own and I was running but I kept doing it on and off. I vividly remember telling my wife I wasn't sure I would stay very long, but I wanted to give it a try. 3 years later, I cannot do without CrossFit! This place is awesome. Do not be afraid, they will help you make progress one scaled push up at a time. The coaches are great and knowledgeable, and the community will become your second family. If you want to become a better "you", give them a try, for real.

Kids Crossfit! I had no idea there was even such a thing. But there is, and it is just in time for my first grader. The classes are ages K-8, boys and girls together, and it is an hour of fun (yet hearty) exercise. On Crossfit nights, my little angel sleeps like a log. The gym is sparkly clean, the equipment modern, and the staff is so good with the kids. They can take Crossfit one or two nights a week, and the cost is very reasonable. Highly recommended.

I love the sense of community in this gym. The members are welcoming and the coaches are encouraging. They help you push your limits but also teach you to listen to your body and scale where appropriate. The fun and varied workouts aren't something i'd ever come up with on my own. It's awesome to see my body adapt to the new challenges this gym provides me with.

Everyone here is really nice and welcomes you in from the beginning. People are at all different levels working on becoming better, and everyone encourages everyone no matter what you're capable of! A lot of people are afraid to workout at a crossfit gym because they think they will be judged or that they are not good enough, but that is not an issue here. Great atmosphere, great equipment, and great coaches!

I cannot recommend North Durham Crossfit highly enough. No matter your fitness level, you will be welcomed and get an amazing workout. The coaches are all wonderful, they help scale things to your ability, but also push you to try your hardest and grow. I'm only 6 months into my journey, but it's addictive, more so than any other gym or workout routine I've tried. Not only am I stronger and fitter since joining, I'm happier, those endorphins are real!

It is not too often that I can pinpoint a person or place that has greatly influenced my life, but North Durham CrossFit is one of the exceptions. I came to NDCF (then 21 CrossFit) after sustaining a knee injury from running. After just a few months of the incredible coaching and encouragement from my peers, I now not only run without pain but feel healthier and fitter than I ever have. The facilities are wonderful, the coaches are incredibly helpful and encouraging, and the people I met at the gym are not only great motivators but also good friends.

There are morning, afternoon, evening, and some weekend classes... For those who can't make class, the facility is available for Open Gym workouts most hours of the day... You can't go wrong here

I absolutely love this place! I was super intimidated to start CrossFit, but between ALL of the coaches and members, it was easy and fun to join right in. Every single person I've met has been extremely friendly and helpful. There is never any judgement, only encouragement, and the facility is awesome with plenty of space.
