Worker Nicole was rude. Made people feel very targeted, came up to many people in the yellow workout area and made us feel as if resting was not an option. If I need to check something on my phone that is my right in the gym. Disturbed my workout and made me feel bad about it.

I've been in the MLK Planet Fitness heavy since July, even before then all of the staff were cool. But there were some things around the gym that were an annoyance, not super dirty, but not my clean. And then there was Shae.
Shae has made a tremendous difference in this gym. When I tell you spray bottles stay filled, annoying paper towel dispensers replaced/ fixed, and most of all no more dust posing tumbleweed rolling across the floor like the Wild Wild West before the gun show (you can't see my guns, but pun intended 🤣). Shae! A girl like me really appreciates all that you do!! I mean, no more dust/hair balls rolling on me while I'm getting it in (I feel like I can breathe better)or fighting to get the paper towels so I can give AF about cleaning the equipment behind myself.
This location should be glad to have you and show you in a major way. I've even noticed new people coming through 🤷🏿‍♀️. Oh oh lastly, when 99.999% of everyone where's headphones there's no need for the music to be blasting, Shae gets it. She has really owned and demolished that project in the few weeks that she has been there because it was a big one. Thank you!

UPDATED: After giving this branch a glowing review, I sadly have to update my review due to the decline in cleanliness and overall maintenance in the last few months under the current management. The showers are often filthy with tons of risky mold in different places. Some shower curtains are ripped, worn out, and dirty in need of immediate replacement. Many soap dispensers aren't functional at all. Some workout machines remain out of order for too long before they are fixed. The staff are generally very nice, but they ignore such feedback when shared with them. Overall, unfortunately, although this was one of the cleanest and most well-maintained braches in the area, it's currently in a bad shape. I hope the current management takes this feedback seriously to keep the quality and safety at the highest level as it was before.

The store manager, Anthony, told me it was canceled but mentioned the system was unreliable and advised me to follow up the next week if it didn’t go through. I’ve been going to this location for a couple of weeks now and I’ve really enjoyed my experience so far! Every staff member I’ve met has been so kind and I enjoy chatting with them. I actually visited this evening because I was without power due to a very bad thunderstorm. Some of the gym’s computer systems were down, which I know is SUPER frustrating and unpredictable, but the staff was still so kind and helpful.

There is a great range of equipment compared to other places I’ve visited. I think the atmosphere at this location amongst the gym-goers is good too. I never feel like I’m being made fun of or like I’m taking up too much space. I’m still a beginner when it comes to weightlifting and I feel comfortable allowing myself to look a little silly while figuring it all out.

The black card spa amenities are awesome as well; the hydro massage beds are great for sore muscles.

Hi I like Planet Fitness on MlK and special thanks to Anthony who works there and helped me check in with ease and also answers any questions about tanning and the gym! Love working out at PF. I like the new cardio machines and the weight machines. I also like the fact that I can take a shower at the end of my workout! MLK location in Durham NC has many of the treadmills not working correctly or defective. Control panel partially fell off one of them in the middle of my run. Locker/bathroom not clean and smells offensively like a football stadium dirty urinal area. Also, water fountain outside lockers has been trickling a slow leak for over a month wasting a huge amount of water. This location appears to be going downhill over the past months. Phone calls to the corporate office has made no change so far. I don't easily give negative reviews, but I've tried the lines of communication available with no change or improvements seen.
Update 10/2024 with increase from 1 to 2 stars. New treadmills have been installed unfortunately they appear to be compact treads and not user friendly for 6 foot tall people like myself. Locker/bathroom is slightly less unpleasant. Seems like there's an effort to make it better. Front desk people are better but still find front desk empty frequently late in the even and have to go hunt down an employee to get help.

I've been to PFs all over the country, and all of the ones in the triangle area. This location is by far the best, with the newest machines, most space, and fairly low traffic. The highlight is Austin at the front counter. I am greeted and said goodbye to with a warm smile and a positive attitude every single day. It's not just me, I see him like that with everybody. All the gratitude in the world to Austin, who helps me get my workout started with energy every time.

I came into Planet Fitness ready to get my workout in, headphones in and energy up, just to be held up by a completely unnecessary line. A bunch of people were waiting to talk to associates about whatever issues they had, but all I needed to do was scan in. Quick. Simple. Or so I thought.

I noticed the third computer was open with no line, so I asked the guy there, a short white man whose name I didn’t catch, if there was a scanner at his station. Instead of just giving a straightforward answer, he hit me with a nasty attitude and snapped, “No, you’ll have to wait.” Like I was asking for a favor instead of trying to use a service I pay for.

There was absolutely no reason for the attitude. If staff can’t be courteous over something as small as scanning in, maybe they’re in the wrong job. Planet Fitness, get it together. This isn’t the welcoming, “Judgement Free” environment you claim it is when people are being rude the moment I walk in.

I haven't been to PF since the locked down from Covid. After my physical this year, I am being encouraged by my physician to get some exercise in to protect my health. With my active membership, I decided to return to my gym, where I worked at my pace and had no one judging me.
Upon arrival, I checked in and was surprised they noticed I hadn't been in a while. (Smile). The check in personal behind the desk was very nice and professional. They updated me on the new equipment that has come since my last visit. One person even walked me around and showed me. He also showed me how to use it and encouraged me to download the PF, which too shows how to use the equipment safely Not being at PF in years, I needed to be reintroduced to the gym..I was ok with that, it made me feel my return was important to the staff.
I stayed a little over an hour. I am pacing myself with the different equipment and trying not to overdo it. I did some stretching and legs exercise on that visit. PF has the Black Card holder Spa area. My favorite there is the chair massage, and I got one of those in.
I love how clean it is in there, with plenty of supplies on hand for each member to wipe the machines behind themselves. I left feeling less stress and anxiety. I just need a gym companion. With one, I feel I would be more motivated ..

I give my return visit a five across the board. From the front desk interaction, the cleaning. And the equipment on hand. As a Black card holder I get all of perks. Try it..

Instead of telling me that I typed my bank info wrong, they charged me late fees for 3 months when I started the membership.

On top of that, the first day I go there, the press down rope I was using (35 lb load) broke and almost took my eye out! The screw was loose. Equipment is not maintained.

Anthony Allen who is the general manager of this location could not assist in refunding my most recent month’s charges even though I canceled prior to charge date. While he was courteous and responsive, he could not assist in providing the customer service I required. The manager may be beholden to the larger franchise operating model and the fine print language they put in the extensive contract. With that said, the model and contract is not customer friendly in this regard and as such I will not resume planet fitness membership for any location in the future much less this one.

This is the biggest scam out there in America. I have been tryign to cancel my membership for last many months, but they continue to bill. When I reach out to the Club they say that I have to physically come to cancel the memberships in the local come. Since I am not in the country for 6 months, this is been impossible for me. Please check the payment terms before singing a contract with these guys. I have spent countless hours on phone and hundreds of dollars without stepping into the gym in 2024 with there customer service, who claim they are just the billing department and can not help me.

I come with my daughter since she can have a guest and I’m planning on moving back to my home state soon…… Everyone there is very nice and personable EXCEPT the girl who works Monday-Thursday nights she has an attitude, never smiles, and acts like we’re a bother to push the button for the massages!! Okay gym. Has a lot of equipment for the price. I've never seen it overly crowded, though I don't typically go during peak hours. They recently got new treadmills, though somehow they seem older than the previous ones. I like to do HIIT training on the treads, and these new ones take 10+ seconds to go from lower speeds to higher speeds, making short intervals very hard to navigate. By the time you get up to speed, the interval is nearly over. I may end up cancelling my membership because of this, since I mostly use the gym for the treadmills.

I would like everyone to know that Anthony Is absolutely wonderful he was so sweet and kind of talk to and help me get my situation under control since I no longer live in North Carolina I’ve been trying to cancel my account for a year with no luck because I was told by call-center that I would have to go to the physical store to cancel or send a letter with my signature and a note stating that I was no longer wanting a membership which racked up a lot while trying to get this done he was able to cancel my account and I was able to set up a plan to pay what has piled up He was the absolute best and a super sweetheart I really hope that his manager sees this. Y'all sign up it's for life , you can't break the contract, I've went in there 8 months ago 3x before I moved away, 1st time the manger wasn't there ,2nd time they don't know where the forms are to cancel, 3rd time I was told they would take care of it , you will receive 50 calls a week, 100 emails a week, they will continue billing you , and I moved away and not close to this location, , you will speak to the rudest customer service people on the phone, even the supervisor who hung up on me , I guess they can afford people like that since they bill you monthly and had bin billed for 2 years and never stepped foot into this place in 2 years and paid , but that wasn't the issue , now that I want them to stop taken my money and stop harassing me I am now treated like trash, not once did I ask for any money back , just leave me alone wow, I called today Sept 18th around 630 pm worse customer service ever

Working out at Planet Fitness in Durham off MLK has truly been a blessing for me. I just left this planet fitness and the customer service has been very poor the past few days. IMHO the MLK Durham location is one of the best Planet Fitnesses I have experienced. Large, clean with a lot of well maintained equipment. Staff is exceptional. Have never had an issue. Thrilled to be back after a long corona virus lockdown. The one area PF could further their proactive efforts is to empower its onsite staff not just to encourage mask wearing which they do, but to take action against those few who attempt to bend the rules by wearing masks on their chin with nose and mouth uncovered (which has to be done to take a drink but not outside that). It's a great facility and a privilege for all of us to use. Those who do not respect the mask order should be escorted out and those who are repeat offenders should have their membership revoked. Again, beyond the few members that don't appear to get the need for mask requirements, this is an outstanding gym.
