After an awful experience with the Myrtle Beach SC (Seaboard Drive) location, numerous phone calls and in person visit it appears no one except Malichi knew how to get my fit on membership changed. Mens locker showers are Bad! The shower drains stink and have had the same dead bugs stuck on the walls for MONTHS now. Equipment is clean and in working order but the men’s locker room isn’t great and showers are horrible

I have cancelled my membership with PF online and even was told in the club it was cancelled, however this is the 2nd month they have attempted to withdraw funds from a acct at a bank in I longer bank with. When I asked about the charges I was told “I don’t know, I can only give your information to someone else”. This was coming from the general manager Sarena. (Who even verified it was cancelled) I have paid late fees and other fees with my bank because planet fitness can not get their priority straight. Instead the employees are standing around, eating, playing on their phones and could care less about customers. When I asked for a higher up in management employee I was told “no, I can’t give you any information”. Do not go here! Save yourself the time and money and find a different gym.

Great gym! Variety of equipment, as well an ample amount of free-weights. Lots of of
Cardio equipment. No worries about getting that time in. Unlike a lot PFs, they don’t have 30 minute time limits pre-programmed in their machines. Spacious, clean, plenty of parking, and of great importance a wonderfully helpful, yet courteous staff! Nothing but accolades to give!!

I asked the club manager to turn on the A/ C. She said it was set to a certain temperature and SHE COULD NOT touch it, that it had to be someone from corporate. It's frickin HOT 🥵🔥 in here. I am a new member of planet fitness and have just started working out. I have to say the Staff is wonderful and very helpful overall.

Kevin is nice and very quick in responding with anything you need or ask for. If you need any help figuring out, adjusting equipment, or using it properly, he will be right there to help.

Angel is very friendly and has a warm inviting smile every time I go there. She also is very prompt with coming over to help explain how to use the equipment if I have questions and helps adjust it to fit my personal needs. She has also assisted in helping me learn what equipment and exercises I should use to help target those specific areas I need to work on, as well as, what exercises I can do on the mat to get great results. She also makes sure my form is right so I know I am doing it the right way and really getting in a good workout every time!

As a female, It is nice having an employee who is fit and works out themselves. I know If I have certain questions or concerns, she is very knowledgeable and always answers with very specific and valuable feedback. She always gives me great pointers!

Overall, I love coming to planet fitness to work out. If I had anything I think they could improve on, it would be that there was more than one of each equipment machines in the back room that target your buttocks and thighs.These machines are always taken. If I only have limited time to workout, I either have to wait in line behind 1-3 people at times, or don’t get to use them at all.. it would be nice to at least have 2-3 of each of those machines and maybe take out less of the middle ones that I don’t see most people use as much. Other than that, planet fitness is a great place to workout and has the best staff to help with all your needs, especially as a beginner. Thank you PF staff for all your hard work!

I was sweating bullets today, and it wasn’t from my workout routine. Why do they keep the gym SO MISERABLY HOT? In January I had built my endurance up to 2 hours on the treadmill (not too shabby for a Baby Boomer), but since they cranked up the furnace in February, I can barely get through an hour. The manager will tell you that ‘corporate’ controls the temperature in the gym and they are not permitted to change the temperature for their customers. If that is indeed the case, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that corporate pay a visit to their Hickory PF, in gym clothes, and take a brisk stroll on the treadmill for an hour. The built-in fan on the treadmill is ineffective, simply blowing the hot, muggy, and quite effervescent air right in your face.

It wasn’t like this in January. If corporate doesn’t visit, then I strongly urge the district manager to pay a visit. The Hickory PF needs a supervisor to assess the situation rather than throw unnecessary mandates around.

I will say the support staff (front counter) are doing a great job at cleaning the facility. Every day they are either dusting, vacuuming, or stocking supplies and cleaning stations. They take great pride in their work and the gym always looks clean and inviting.

For the past two months I have made multiple, multiple complaints to the staff of Planet Fitness Hickory, NC that they are keeping the temperature way too hot in there. The heat literally smacks you in the face as soon as you walk in the front door. The staff's response is always, "We have no control over the thermostat. It's controlled by corporate." But, of course, when I ask how to contact "Corporate" they say there is no way to do that. Sometimes, to placate me they will open the front doors to allow some fresh air in, but only if the manager isn't there.

Keeping the gym at such a warm temperature does not motivate me to push myself. It has the exact opposite effect and causes me to become dangerously overheated and want to just get out of there. There have been days when its been so unbearably hot in this gym that my friends and I have quit our workouts early and left because we were absolutely melting. Additionally, because of the lack of any fresh air circulating, Planet Fitness Hickory, NC stinks like a locker room. It's hot, stuffy, unhealthy and unsanitary.

The back half of this gym might be marginally cooler, but the front half (where the treadmills are) is a damn sweatbox. Here you have a bank of 10 flatscreen TV's, over 40 pieces of electromechanical exercise equipment and only two very poorly positioned ceiling fans to move air around (see photo attached). These two ceiling fans are simply not sufficient enough to provide any relief from the heat. And the fans on the treadmill consoles (if they even work) do nothing more than blow hot air in your face.

I pay for a gym membership so that I can exercise in AIR CONDITIONED comfort. I see other reviewers have also complained about how hot this gym is. Please turn the A/C back on or I will be forced to cancel my Black Card membership and go elsewhere.

I would also like to add that on Friday, Feb. 28th, my friend (also a Black Card member) and I literally stood at the front desk for a solid 5 mins. waiting to ask if we could use the Aqua Messagers while the manager (Serena) looked directly at us twice but ignored us and continued stocking shelves before turning towards us a third time and finally asking if she could help us with something. And, while Malachi was also there working right behind her, he was busy assisting two other customers the whole time. What kind of manager does that?!?!

I will be honest upfront. I never joined. Did a walk through, which, for low impact workouts and not a gym rat, looked appealing. Nice folks. BUT the one star is for my research, not this location!!!!

The research I found had a long list of complaints regarding billing, cancelations, and some places woke agendas regarding men in womens bathrooms......again, NOT this location. BUT these are the reasons I chose to go elsewhere.

I encourage you to check it out yourself as it maybe a good fit for you. It just wasn't for me.

I like the friendly staff who welcome you by your first name. The facility is always immaculate and well-maintained. I love that I can work out early in the mornings or catch a late-night session after an event if I find time. Even during their busiest hours (typically after 5 pm when most people are getting off work) I can usually find an available machine for my workouts.

Great location. I'm having to travel because my home gym was destroyed during the Hurricane. However, I have been given a grace period during the wait of the remodel/reconstruction. I want to say that not only me ,but my wife, and my best friend have all enjoyed going to this location and the Lenoir location. Visited the Hickory Planet Fitness and enjoyed the workout, but I wanted to use the massage chairs and was told people on guest pass were not allowed to use that perk. If I am with a Black card member, what am I supposed to do while they are using the spa area. I was able to enjoy everything in Newton, NC planet fitness. I was planning to get a membership, but I have since changed my mind and will continue working out with my partner. Once that ends I will just go to the YMCA where they have a pool for about the same price.

I signed up at the facility in Hickory, NC. I have health issues and the staff was very helpful and friendly with explaining things and showing me around. The gym, the equipment, the club area and bathroom areas are always clean.
My only issue was trying to cancel (because we’re now on a set income) and you have to go in to do it. Why? I finally made it in to the Newton NC facility and I didn’t have to sign anything. They punch it all in the computer and say okay.. thank you. 🤷‍♀️

An ok location. Was not enthused this evening when I asked for a massage chair at 6:39 and the gentleman informed me that that black lounge closes 20 minutes before the end of shift on Sunday. It's a 10 minute cycle. Never had this happen at any other location.

Generally a fairly clean location, and they just replaced the equipment (last year or so). The staff seems ok, but I don't have a lot of interaction with them.

Its a solid gym but it used to be open 24 hours and that itself was the best feature. During the day its just too cramped unless you're only there for the treadmills. Late night used to be the best time to have free reign of the facilities but now they act like they were never open 24 hours and its always been this way (it wasnt in 2015 at least, not sure when they changed). Overall, Its rather aggravating.

For people who arent night owls its a great little gym but after waiting several years to see if they go back to a 24 hour schedule im about to cancel and move to workout anytime 24/7 off springs road. Slightly smaller space but MUCH better equipment with ACTUAL free weights and the lift off assist benches. Just farther from my house so ive been trying to make do🙄

I can’t get enough of the awesome atmosphere, spacious room to workout, and plenty of machines to keep your workout flowing, even if the gym is very active during that part of the day when you attend. Logan and Aliya has been an amazing crew to offer any type of assistance that may arise during ur workout set. The gym, lockers and Black Card Spa has always been clean and well lit for your safety and convenience. And Love to bring the Wife and kids! The ONLY thing I would change is the hours, I have a very sporadic schedule, and sometimes won’t be available for a solid workout until 9/10pm , so if you could bring back the 24hr availability, that would rock my world!!!!!!! 💯

They make their money by making it difficult to cancel. I moved from hickory years ago and I am still stuck paying $10 a month. Instead of making it easy I must send a certified letter to the home club or show up in person even though I already have another membership at another club in atlanta. Compared to other planet fitness locations this one is pretty clean and not very crowded. They have 6 tanning booths and a 4 massage chairs (I can't remember what it's called). One of the best deals for a gym price wise that's for sure but that being says you get allot of people at planet fitness who don't do anything but sit on a machine and play on there phone. I have been to other gyms and there is something about Hickory Planet Fitness that makes me feel at home. The vibe and energy is positive and not intimidating. The price is reasonable too. I rarely use the other resources like the tanning beds and massage chairs, but the hydro bed is very relaxing.
