I was previously a member at this location for almost 5 years.. I fell into financial hardships which resulted with my account being past due for a few months. However the last 5 months and member fee on my account was current. I reached out to ask for some assistance… a payment arrangement, cancellation or to have some of those 2024 fees waived. I spoke on the phone with the assistant manager Danial who was not helpful at all. All I wanted was some assistance with the account so that I could at least use the gym since I am currently paying for it but i didn’t have the extra funds to pay the additional past months. Danial flat out told me he couldn’t help me at all. This upset me because it was the lack of empathy, so I drove to the gym face to face, whenever I entered the gym I asked for the GM and was directed to Daniel again, he was not friendly nor helpful. At that point I didn’t even want to communicate my problem I just asked for a cancellation. He canceled it which throw me off because he said he couldn’t over the phone. I would love to speak with the actual General Manager about this situation.

I'm canceling my 1 week membership because the bathrooms are not cleaned thoroughly or often enough. There is always trash or a bottle left on or around the equipment that the staff should be making rounds to ensure its disposed of. Only person is needed at the front while the other cleans and they take turns throughout the night. Sunday all the trash cans were filled to the top and the two young kids just stood around goofing off. I'm going to check out Crunch Fitness.

The place looks bigger than it truly is, I do not know why equipment is mixed the way it is i do arms one day legs the next then abdomen and back , had to wait 10 min for a hydro chair cause there was 1 person working so poor staffing, the shower room was dirty and shower heads broke , you nearly got a 1 star but the hydro chair was nice it saved you from a 1 star, so far the only PF I gave a 1 star was Savannah that place still holds the worst PF

I really like this location. The staff at the front is always welcoming. It sounds like a small thing, but a simple smile and kind greeting goes a long way in making a client feel like they belong. (Surprising how many businesses don't get it.)

I wasn't going to make a review but decided it's best for other women to know. I was there about 2 weeks ago with my friend I was her guest and this employee named George really big guy kept following us and came up to us asking if we wanted him to train us. We kindly refuse but he stay and continue to talk to us. We were very uncomfortable but went with it anyways. My friend went to the lady's room and I continued my workout and he came up to me and asked me for my number for "the future just incase I ever need someone to train me" I asked if he was a trainer and he said no and that he was just trying to help, he loudly sighed and left. With how comfortable he was to ask a member/guest for their phone number I feel like this isn't the first time this has happened and the fact that he wasn't even a trainer makes this even weirder. My friend and I left after that and haven't been there since. I just wanted to warn other people and hopefully management does something about this employee as we are suppose to be able to workout without being harassed by an employee or anyone!

I will never come back to this location ever again. The front desk associate Alex was very rude and nasty from jump because i scanned my card at the wrong check in and immediately tried starting an argument. Went to go begin my workout and he called me back because of my shoes and threatened to call the cops on me if i didn’t leave and took pictures of me and did not want to tell me his name at first when i asked and said he didn’t have a name. The handicap dressing room has no hand rails to assist in getting up from the bench.
It took me 20 minutes to figure out how to get up without the rails. Last time I had to yell for help to get 2 if the guys to help me stand up, since there were no rails. Very embarrassing.

Update 5/6/25: Generally, I love this Planet Fitness. And they are keeping the place clean and the paper towels full which helps me do my part and clean my equipment after each use. My Only criticism that remains is that it is nearly impossible to do the 30 minute workout circuits In 30 minutes ( Unless you skip machines) Then you get out of there in 30 minutes. Why is that you ask? Folks surfing on their phones, Sitting on the machines, Laying their mats uncomfortably close to any machine that you want to use Today in the 30 minute workout center actually claiming a machine by keeping their keys on top of it while they worked on a mat. This is really easily fixable if the staff Enforced the signage about the 30 minute workout circuits out center. Now I’m really not complaining that much because it is a great value for the money. But c’mon folks One of the other things that sold me on Planet Fitness was the 30 minute workout circuit. Sometimes it’s filled with more frustration than satisfaction. Again, as a really great leader that I used to work with told me once “ You’ve got to inspect what you expect”. I can’t imagine that I’m the only one that gets a little frustrated when you can’t finish a 30 minute workout circuit in 30 minutes. Fix this and I would give them 6 stars:) I dropped it to three this time because it appears as though there has been no effort to rectify any of this since my last review about six months ago:(

I love planet fitness Matthews. I really do. I am 55 and getting in the best shape of my life. Staff is very friendly. I have a few concerns which keeps my review from being a 5. I do the 30 minute circuit and the ab circuit and cardio. It is really working for me. A couple big-time annoyances though. For both Ab And stretching circuit and the 30 minute workout. Some folks don’t seem to understand that we’re here to work out, enjoy ourselves and move on with our evenings Case and point-I I was waiting for my last ab machine this evening and a young lady got on there and stood there playing with her phone for 10 minutes. I didn’t really have the time to count, but I counted. No one really seems to be monitoring for 30 minute workout either. I mean, I get taking a break between sets but talking on the phone and surfing your social media while others wait for machines Is a bit annoying. They say that they’re monitored by staff regularly. Perhaps. But obviously not enforced. Again, I love planet fitness Matthews But the lack of monitoring really slows down my workout and lays me from moving onto my evening. Can you help me out planet Matthews Matthews staff with a little bit of monitoring, please? In the time it took me to write this review The lady is still surfing her phone on the ad machine that I need to use. I guess I don’t get to finish my workout this evening.
Please check the paper towels, a little more often. I really want to do my part to clean the equipment when I’m done with it. But it is hard to do when the paper towel machine is empty.

I enjoyed working out here! The atmosphere was welcoming, and the gym had everything I needed for a solid workout. The hydro massage chairs were definitely the highlight—they’re incredibly relaxing after exercising.

I didn’t check out the showers or bathrooms this time, but I’ll make sure to look next visit to see if they’ve improved in cleanliness since the previous review by KD. Overall, a great experience so far!

He went out of his way to take excellent care of me this morning . George is doing a fantastic job. Something has to be done about all of the broken equipment at this location. Has been weeks with half of the treadmills broken and most of the upright bikes. The sinks and soap in the bathrooms are constantly broken - going long periods with no soap. Isn't that a health issue? People using the toilet and then the gym equipment with no soap to wash their hands? What is the money we pay quarterly for equipment maintenance going to? Patricia as club manager needs to do her job and get this equipment fixed immediately. The excuse is that they had to fire their repair person weeks ago. Not that hard to find someone else to do it.

On 10.21.24 at about 5:30am, I came into the locker room to shower. There was a male attendant in the locker room cleaning in the bathroom stalls next to the shower and changing area. I asked him if he could step out so that I could shower and change. He steps out while or at least I thought he stepped out while ao went to shower. While I was showering he came in and did some more cleaning. I didn't see him, I just saw the changing of cleaning supplies. When I was changing after the shower, he came in and started cleaning again. I was not comfortable with him being in the shower/bathroom area.

It's a bit frustrating to see that the person responding to these reviews clearly doesn't operate the gym itself. Responding to negative reviews by asking the person to bring up the issue to management is insulting. People post negative reviews here to specifically bring it up to management and the public. I got so excited to see a new planet fitness over here. I haven’t been in the area in a while. So i was on the way to another facility and ran into this one and the outside looks nice and when you walk in it looks nice but the restrooms were the worst restrooms i have seen in ANY planet fitness and i travel and go to these fitness centers everywhere. Even some of the oldest olds i know of don’t look this bad. It honestly looks like they NEVER clean the restrooms. They were so disgusting that i didn’t even workout. I just left and the worst part is I had a great parking space lol. I’m extremely disappointed in this NEWER establishment. First impressions are everything and they honestly need to have a team meeting. No way you have extra people working and somebody is not making sure the place is clean. I can not and I will not recommend this place. I think you would be much better going to the Matthews - Mint Hill Rd planet fitness (4.2 miles away).

I've been a customer of this gym for many years, I was stopped at the entrance, he said he needed my ID, I've been registered there for a long time, he didn't let me in, I'm dark-skinned and an immigrant, I felt racist on the part of the attendant, I'll never step foot in that place again. I’ve had a membership at planet fitness for over a year now. It is an amazing gym with amazing staff. I usually go around 4:30am. Chelsea who works there at the time I come in is absolutely amazing. She always encourages me when I come in and has a smile on her face. It is always clean and the paper towels are always stocked when I come in. Having access to a massage chair after a hard workout is always a plus. For $30 a month you can’t find a better place to work out. I am officially down 100lbs since getting my membership in February 2023. I highly recommend this gym

This is a well rounded gym with a great mix of cardio equipment, weights, cable machines and areas to stretch and do abdominal exercises. They also have other amenities like tanning beds and massage chairs for pre or post workout pampering. I feel unjudged and welcome at this gym which is very important to me. I haven't actually worked out yet here at the new location, just recently opened, but did stop in to talk with the staff, see how things were laid out and they invited me to tour through the place. I'm really quite impressed with the upgrades to this new location, its layout, and their sanitation. No, it's not Gold's Gym, but it tries not to be.

Update: I've been working out here post surgery, and there is no end to the alternatives to work out. Equipment is in great shape, and everything is spotless. Things can get a little busy post 5pm for a few hours, but even then, it's not slammed. I prefer a very early morning workout, and there are a wide variety of people there from seniors to young Gen Z. Open 24-7, so when I have an early day, I can get the workout and shower before there are more than a handful of people there. Showers are always clean and fresh and there are a few private changing rooms right across from the Showers if you want.

There are always lots of options. Time of day impacts what you can use. The 24/7 hours are great. Staff could be a bit more attentive and the ladies room could use a little TLC at least on the weekends. I would recommend for those looking for a “judgement” free place to workout. And, you can’t beat the price.
