I'm incredibly entertained by the 1-star reviews. One, not even a member, wasn't allowed to use the restrooms after shopping at Ollie's, quoting an "Act of Congress." Another mad because he illegally parked his commercial truck and it was eventually towed. 🤣

Maybe I should leave a negative review for Ingles because I had heartburn in their parking lot.

I've only been a member for a few months but staff has been helpful and friendly. Equipment and locker rooms are clean. Machines are always in working order.

At this gym for 5 years normally twice a week, sometimes three. Never had any problems. Staff has always been nice to me. I've not really ever had any complaints at all. I've never seen people there bother anyone. It's been great. Employees tend to change quite a lot, but as new ones have come in there haven't really been any issues with any of them so far.

Ok, in conclusion, 4 years in that place, they canceled my membership without justification, a garbage place, don't invest your money there. I called human resources today because I had to wait three days for them to evaluate. What they tell me is that I have been rude to the employees, that I have had complaints, etc. That is a lie. I have been there for years, but well, it was me who filed the complaint last week because one feels uncomfortable when we see others not complying with the rules, etc. I imagine that all the negative reviews of that month, I imagine that they are also the clients' fault. I have to wait 5 more days to resolve or see what state that place is in as clients for the year, I repeat. 0/0 ⭐️My name is Dominique Cumberlander, I have been in the town of Shelby nc Planet fitness for several years. I tried to talk to the manager, the name escapes me letting him know that there are customers with sandals etc. that they have quickly forbidden me and I understood. Because I did not know the crocs brand with a closed band from the back, I never do it again because I do not like to call my attention and more in front of people looking at the employees they think they are owners one gives the complaint they simply tell you to do your part. Very rude customer service by the pretty boy at the counter.
The store next to it restrooms are out of order and the very polite cashier recommended I use the gym next to it. They are letting the staff as well.

This gym is a joke. Staff is clueless, management is not helpful and is very dismissive. They even hang up on you! They try to clean equipment while you’re on it; there’s mold on the water fountain.

When I tried to discuss problems with manager Greyson after he called me, he told me that I was just talking in circles and that there’s nothing he can do. If you’re looking for a gym to call home, don’t go here.

The gym is fine. But I was booted and charged $3000 dollars to have it removed. Truckers, DO NOT PARK HERE! until the police start enforcing the law. It is illegal to boot a vehicle in NC if the driver is in the vehicle. That includes CMVs.

This location closes at 7pm on weekends, which is ridiculous for a gym. The (tiny) showers also need a second curtain between the shower and the (tiny) changing area, because whatever bag/clothes you have with you gets soaked.

Also, I wasn't on a treadmill for 5 minutes before some guy bothered me about my bag, which was tucked safely out of the way. This happened only minutes before they close (which, again, was at 7 PM), so the place was almost empty, mitigating whatever threat this guy imagined my backpack posed 🙄 Visiting here was a typically wretched pf experience.

WARNING this location is closed for construction (thank you PF management for not updating your status…) It’s a huge ghost plaza, and I’m a member so naturally I thought I’d safely park my semi here and get a warm meal if I can’t get a shower. But local authorities had another idea: I came back to a booted truck and threats from towing agency requesting that I must pay $3000 (no, I didn’t mean $300) so I could leave. Apparently the side hustle of local blu uniform who appeared out of nowhere to tell us (there were other trucks there) that we have to pay, even though “it’s a civil matter, I can’t do nothing”… But in reality it was probably him who called the towing in the first place. I don’t see my family for two weeks to earn that kind of money. There’s a special circle in ‘ell…

I love this gym because the staff is very friendly. They have a wide variety of equipment to choose from. They are A LOT cleaner compared to other gyms. However the hours are very inconvenient. I usually have to go to Pro Fitness on the weekends because they are literally open 24/7, and Planet Fitness closes at 7pm on weekends. Also they are really inconsistent about their monthly billing. I set up a whole separate checking account just for a membership here. But I definitely recommend this gym!

I always enjoy my workouts at PF of Shelby. I look forward to the friendly faces from both staff and patrons. I like that it is economical to patronize this gym. Twice in one week I went in around 6:30 in the evening. Both times I was unable to get any hot water. When I spoke to staff I was told that the water heater would only heat up overnight and give warm showers in the early morning. Staff informed me that there was no hot water in the evening and if I wanted a shower I needed to be there first thing in the morning. This is totally unacceptable. Why is there no hot water for those that would like to shower in the evening

The manager is a joke and is the only reason I won’t go back. I went as a guest with a member to see if I liked the gym and possibly become a member myself. While I was there I saw the manager get into a heated argument with a member because he seemed to think the member was belittling him by asking a question to clarify some of the club rules. It also appeared that the staff and manager had different interpretations of the rules as I saw people being told by the front desk staff to put jackets either on their body, in a locker, or on the machine they were using, but when the manager came by he told them they HAD to interrupt their workout and hang it up in a locker. The staff there openly talk badly about their manager and how awful he is to members and guests that he believes are breaking the rules. It’s like he’s actively looking for rules being broken and takes it personally when they are. Any time I was working out while the manager was walking around I’d worry that he’d find a reason to stop me and yell about a rule I somehow broke and kick me out. I spoke to the front desk about this and they told me that several long-time members left when the new manager was hired or they’d change their schedule just to avoid him. Everything else about the gym was fine, I just can’t workout in an environment that almost seems to wish I wasn’t there.

I had a great experience at this pf. We were in the Charlotte area for work and the Shelby location was very convenient for us. There’s lots of equipment, the massage chairs/hydro are the best, and it looks like the tanning areas are nice and clean too. I never used the tanning but everything else was great.

Update it’s been three weeks and apparently this employee hasn’t been talked to about her loudness! Each and every morning she is so loud ! It feels like a WWE Match! It’s insane ! Like is she the Nature Boy or Macho Man ! Sheesh!

I really enjoy coming to this gym before and after work, but I would really appreciate it if the older lady employee wasn’t so loud all the time! Employees were nice. Got a day pass, but the experience sucked. Im not loud or obnoxious when I work out but the machines werent EVEN. The left hand on the chest press gave more weight some reps; and vice versa for the right hand. Im sure all the equipment works other than the few I managed to use, but my favorite thing is the amount of signs warning everything you CANT do in the gym. Lets talk about rules, half of these rules ive never even heard of. No jeans? No Boots? Every sign is a different rule and theyre pretty much the same thing. None of these rules affect me because im a normal person who casually wants to experience a gym. But I wouldnt be suprised if they had a sign that said "no drinking from plastic bottles!" or "no gym sessions more than 1 hour!" If you LOVE rules, man you'll LOVE this place. Good samaritans go here, the kind trying to have friends with rocks because nothing in that gym is going to motivate you. Mirror placement was the worst thing ive ever seen. Although it feels dead there, Icing on the cake was their "Day pass" is a joke. Like I said the staff was friendly, when I asked if I can come back withing 24 hours, the man replied "Its a 1 use only kind of thing". Even for a $10 day pass, ill never go back. The gym for me has always been a great experience but this was too overwhelming for a underwhelming gym, you cant even focus theres so many notable things around you. Nonetheless its my opinion, im sure some people like the underwhelming, pointless fundimentals of planet fitness. But I dont understand why someone would want to go here. I got merca... that's right! A staph infection from their tanning beds a while back and I told the staff and at first they had no problem wiping the beds for me... NOW they will stand there and laugh in my face and say it's self service there's a bottle and paper towels in there....

I ALWAYS clean the bed and ANYTHING I touch AFTER I am done using it. But what I REFUSE TO DO is clean up SOMEBODY ELSES SWEAT, MOUTHPRINTS, HANDPRINTS, AND BODILY FLUIDS off of a bed that should have been wiped down after use. You guys need to start enforcing the wipe down after use rule or get drug through the mud on Google reviews.

Having been a three sport athlete in high school and playing racquet ball in my spare time I've always been in great condition. Now I'm 47 years old, was in law enforcement for several years and Having my oldest son playing college basketball and my 2 youngest son's (17 & 18) also athletes and who I train with I've always worked out 100% accumulating sweat and putting in work even though I had open heart surgery 3 years ago I still train like I'm 18 years of age. I've worked out at planet fitness locations from Greenville SC to Raleigh NC and never had issues with having any facility question me that I need to be apart of their home gym or my rate will go up or me sweating while working out and me cleaning machine and floor thoroughly until I arrived at the Shelby NC location. I accumulated sweat while going through my rigorous elliptical training session that I've been legendary for for years at all locations. I saw a female employee chat with manager and I'm always aware of my surroundings and he walks behind me and looks down at my feet and continues on but circles back infront of me. He then says that they don't allow sweat suits even though I'm not wearing one he says that the sweat on the floor is an issue in which it was specks on the floor. He then says if I can clean up after in which I was low key offended became those directions wasn't warranted and he knows how I am with cleaning the machines but I guess he wanted to flex his chest lol. With that being said after I listened and just shook my head in disbelief after my shower I immediately went to bed front and canceled my membership. This has never happened to me and I'm a gym rat. I know the reason but I'm not going to go there because I think if it was another group of people and they worked as hard as me they would be applauded and revered. Welp....that's that. Definitely won't be going back to Shelby nc location. I'll take my workouts to another facility where there's "No judgment zone" and "no critics" as they advertise on the walls lol

i tried to check in this morning 9/6/24 at 6:00a.m was told that I needed to take a photo for my account which I declined and said I would do it later. The manager “ Grayson” (if that’s his real name )working the morning shift denied me entry into the club and did not tell me I could show a photo ID which i found out later. Celeste will occasionally walk through the gym singing and getting the gym members an uplifting "Woo Hoo" which results in laughter and smiling faces. I don't often leave bad reviews, but manager Greyson earned this one. If the owner of this location wants to reach out I'll consider editing it.
I've been coming to this location almost everyday for the last 7 months. I carry a very small backpack with me that I need to keep on my person for personal medical reasons. I always keep the bag next to me and in a place where no one will trip over it. Today Greyson asked me to put it in a locker. I politely replied that I needed to keep it on my person for the above reasons. Greyson asked if I had a "medical waiver" on file for the reasons. I stated that I did not and that I would not. I already signed a waiver releasing PF from liability and my medical info is nobody's business but mine and my doctor's.
Greyson said "So, it's going to be like that?" In a rude tone. I replied, yes it is like that. Greyson left and I finished my set. Soon after he approached me again. I told him I'd be happy to have a polite and reasonable conversation about the issue. Greyson stated that his staff don't help him and don't enforce the rules, but though he doesn't make the rules he's required to enforce them. I let him know that I can understand his position and that it is up to him to enforce these rules and I asked the reason for the rule, which is of course for safety so that no one trips. I asked if given the circumstances which in 8 months no one has ever tripped over my bag and that one stated I needed it, was the rule reasonable to enforce. Not all rules and laws are reasonable or even enforceable. Grayson became irate and stated "it's not a discussion". In a true dictator fashion that would make Stalin blush. He further stated that he would enforce rules if PF mandated a vaccination card. At this point admittedly I lost my cool and called him a communist among some other choice words.
I told Greyson if he wanted to cancel my membership over this ridiculous situation that it was his prerogative, but I'd prefer he was reasonable about the situation. Greyson chose the former of the two and told me to leave and that he would cancel my account.
I'm really disgusted by the way this transpired. It's a good thing there are better gyms just down the road.

Probably the worst gym experience I’ve ever had. I have worked out in a dozen different gyms as well as worked for several, I have 4 different gym memberships because I travel often. I have worked at a planet fitness for years. Never have I heard such absurd things as having your personal bag on your person is a “privacy issue.” How?? It’s a bag not a camera but everyone can have their phones out. And when I asked how a personal bag was a privacy issue he had no answer. So ok, I need to put it in a locker, gave me a lock, my bag wouldn’t fit into the locker as these lockers are super skinny. I so I asked to leave it behind the desk. That was a no, told me to leave it on top of the locker or in my car. The entire point is I don’t want to leave it where anyone can access it. And it has my bands, ankle straps, belt, etc in it. Which is why I keep it on my person in every gym I am in to include PF. Having to walk back and forth to the parking lot for things that could be right next to me and cause no harm is insane. I can’t carry all those items individually the entire time. Simply leaving by the desk wasn’t an option for them. Then it turned into the bag could be a liability hazard. PF already gets enough hate for being the most judgmental judgement free zone. Experiences like this just make it seem overall uncomfortable to workout in period. And that’s how I felt the entire time. One day in a gym that should have been an easy workout turned into one of the most uncomfortable experiences I have ever had. We now officially do two competitions a year in shelby and my goal at the end of my workout was to purchase 17 monthly memberships for when we are here (for my team) but with the customer experience, I will save my money and pass. I hope in the future you create a better experience for others.

I travel to many planet fitness locations. Some are sub par and some excell in certain areas. I have gone to this particular location because of buisness purpose in the area. I wanted to give a huge shout out. The place is kind of small but that isnt a deal breaker. The place is clean and this is what i would like to highlight. Everytime i am there i see the staff walk around with vacuums, and dusting the machines. Also the bathrooms are very clean and not even a hint of urine unlike many other ones that hit you in the face as soon as you walk in. I see the staff in there constantly cleaning the stalls, the mirrors, toilets and sinks. I stopped to say thankyou to one of the staff members because even though that is most likely one of his duties, it is still nice to hear thank you and that your appreciated. I see many workers in there and i appologize if i do not mention their names but 2 staff members i remember their name and want to give them a shout out.

At age 65 after hip replacement surgery, PT therapist recommended joining a fitness plan somewhere in Shelby. I have never been comfortable going to places like exercise gyms since I’m overweight anyway, plus the cost. However, My Medicare insurance plan includes “Silver Sneakers”. Checked out “JUDGEMENT FREE ZONE PLANET Fitness”. My husband & I went in and was immediately greeted with smiles and “how can we help you today?” PF associate Chance helped us sign up to join along with Manager Cory. We have been going as we are able and I am TOTALLY comfortable there! I want to also say Alex always has a smile and the young lady has always been nice when we have seen her. I can’t remember the other young man’s name but everyone up front is helpful if I have questions. I am 100% comfortable there. Oh and did I mention how clean it is there? Go check out Planet Fitness and the aqua bed massager or massage chair. Also they have so many different exercise machines/equipment to choose from!

The Planet Fitness in Shelby is well-maintained by a friendly staff. It's nice selection of equipment is kept in good working order. There is plenty of cardio equipment, but during peak hours one sometimes has to wait for a weight bench or specific machine. No paper towels in the men's locker room. You have to use those electric blower things to dry your hands. Overall, a great place to work out.

Why does one have to come into the gym to sign to cancel a membership? My mobility was limited and they charged me nearly a year of monthly fees even though I'd called to cancel but couldn't come in.

Some of the Staff was very nice and helpful. Answered all my questions 💯. They made everything simple. It was very clean inside and it wasn't too crowded (just right 👍🏽). No more contracts which I love 😽💃🏽👐🏼.

Good place to work out for the money. Needs more adjustable weight bench as they seem to always be in use. They keep it clean and staff is friendly. They need to expand or remove some of the equipment. Should create a space for the people who like to lay in the floor and exercise as they like to take up the space by the kettle bells and rope machine and you can't get to that equipment. Should also remove some of the duplicate machines in that room that are hardly used. The 30 second timer in that room has not worked in over 6 months, it was turned on but has been stuck on 30 seconds which is useless.

This is a small gym. Sometimes you have to wait for certain equipment to become available which interferes with my workout routine. There are times that I get frustrated and leave. The staff is very friendly and helpful. This gym is also clean and well kept.

I have been a basic card member for 6 months now. Instead of charging me $10 monthly like they should, they have been charging me $25 monthly due to the lady at the front desk carelessly sending me on my way knowing that the billing was not set up correctly. You can clearly see on my account that it says I am a basic card member, therefore I have not received any of the additional perks of the upgraded membership yet have been charged for it every month. Thankfully, the AGM helped credit my account so that I wasn’t losing money. With all that said, check behind the front desk workers when you are signing up for your membership.

I Have been to quite a few planet fitness around the United States, and it is a pleasure When you find one that is clean and well staffed with friendly people. ....If we only leave reviews when we are upset about something , how do good people like Sarah, (The general manager) or Jonah (district manager), or the strong 2nd shift Supervisor, Sharon, ...along with Abbey and Chance.. ...how would they get there just due?
This location is *very clean, *the machines are spaced well with a *full compliment of exercize choices for arms or legs. ..and the *Shower facilities were wonderful. As a mention I will add that I did not see one Patron step away from a unit without wiping it down.
In the parking lot I was walking out at the same time with a lady...I asked if it was her regular club. She replied that it was, so I inquired if it was always this impressive. She did not hesitate in stating an absolute Yes!
This stop today was one that made me wish this was my home club.
