I ABSOLUTELY HATE THIS GYM. The bosses are so irresponsible and treat everyone horribly. I don’t recommend coming here unless you want your kid or teens to suffer an incredible amount of mental stress.

We have been loving it here! My 3yo daughter loves her morning gymnastics class and the instructors are super engaging. My almost 7yo son has also been loving the summer camps here and cannot wait to go each week. Clean and large facility. Highly recommend!

My daughter recently started at Sonshine about 4 months ago after just moving to the area & the mixed reviews had me hesitant but she started on their Stars Team and she's been loving it! She loves her coach and has been learning a lot of skills that she had not learned previously. Definitely recommend!

The staff could have been more encouraging and welcoming to new ones, or kids that are especially shy and need adjusting. My daughter is especially shy, and I felt like she was not paid attention to. It just seems most of the workers are just there for the job, but not really engaged and love the kids. My daughter told me she doesnt want to go anymore, and I wish it's not like this. I only signed her up because its a Christian based gym, so I thought the workers could have been more loving to kids who need it.

Great place to get your kids enrolled for Gymnastics, staff are soo good and they put so much of effort in teaching right things to kids. But the it gets quite crowded in the evening because of so many different groups practicing at the same time.

This is the biggest gymnastics facility that I have seen in the RTP area. They teach gymnastic to all ages of kids and adults, some athletes are real good so I assume the instructor for teens are really good!

The facility is nice. The front office operations are dysfunctional. I've been guaranteed to be contacted for an open spot for my daughter to move up to another level. That was 6 months ago. I've talked to them in person 3 separate times about this only to be guaranteed again that they would contact me.
I won't bring my daughter there if she isn't learning anything. Like another reviewer wrote, this can be very hurtful to a child. I won't subject her to this type of treatment.

Not a bad gym. Not a good fit for my family. We joined a year ago with high hopes and witnessed a steep decline over the course of a year.
1)It is filthy you will have reoccurring URI, skin funk like ringworm and staph, and allergic asthma. I have been to several other gyms in the area and have not encountered this issue….
2) VERY knowledgeable in making you kids physically prepared for high level gymnastics! But they will hold students back to medal, even if their scores and skills are great. That is how they keep their rankings. They also love to use negative reinforcement. Be prepared for displays of frustration. Yelling, belittling punishments especially for state meet and regionals… no calm under pressure…
3) my experience was a lot of miscommunication. I told them of a death in the family. 10 days later the coach approached me and said I just found out…. Some if the coaches joke about starting rumors and spreading false info… the problem is When you are counting or depending on information to be true. I asked to meet with them in order to prepare my daughter for the coming year and we got locked into something that delayed our transition and i ended up having to pay more money and time into the final outcome.
They also dropped their Xcel program with 2 weeks notice.
4) expensive competition fees, in particular the coaches fees.

I like the way how they teach our kids to gymnastics skills. But, guys you need to do something with appearance of the gym. I really wanted to keep bringing my kids there, but I'm not sure if I want to do that. The problem is there is a lot of talcum powder everywhere, in the air on the floor, e.t.c. I wish there was a really good air exhaust to take this powder away or at least it would be nice if they performed wet cleaning. Kids are breathing with that talcum powder, especially when they are doing exercises they are breathing more often (and the sense of smell is one of those senses that delivers air directly to the brain). Maybe it would be good to hire someone to perform wet cleaning? This is only my concern. But staff seems really experienced and kids are performing really good, compare to the other places. Here is some information about smell in the gym, why it smells like socks ("So chalk isn’t really harmful if it is inhaled in small to moderate amounts. In fact, you could eat a piece of chalk and it wouldn’t hurt you at all. But inhaling chalk dust and what accompanies it over a period of time is harmful.
Take a close look at chalk and you will see something interesting and disturbing.
The disturbing part isn’t the chalk but what is ON it.
Several years ago, air samples from gyms were examined and bacteria was found in the samples. It was just a little bacteria. The amount was shocking. Researchers expected everything from chalk resin to mat fibers but they never expected to find Salmonella (Salmonella cholereasuis), Staph (Staphylococcus aureus), E-Coli (Escherichia coli) and Candida (Candida albicans). The dirty sock odor (as it is often described) that is noticed in gyms is made up of Salmonella, Staph, E-Coli and Candida."). And I don't know why you don't simply replace old worn mats. We are changing our pillows and mattresses after a certain period of time because they are worn and there are probably mites. But it looks like nobody cares about what air kids are breathing in there. Yep it's just a business to make as much as possible$.

We tried out Sonshine for a few months and were disappointed on many levels.
1. COVID Concerns - If this is a concern for your family, I recommend avoiding this place at all costs. IF Covid is not a concern for your family, see below. You should know right away that the ownership, coaches, and nearly the entire staff DID NOT wear masks at any time while being around small children who cannot yet get the vaccine. I brought up this concern several times, and it was just ignored. With the recent spike in Omicron cases, I was told on the phone they would continue to not require or encourage masking. We promptly cancelled our membership.
2. Staff Training - During our time here, I did not feel as if my daughter was encouraged, coached, or simply paid attention to. The revolving coaches were simply warm bodies that shouted commands at the children every now and then. I used to run the high school training program for teens that wanted to be counselors at the YMCA. Based on my experience, I would have serious conversations about the way staff present themselves to children and how to effectively manage and coach a huddle of small children. Not once did I hear anyone address my daughter by her name after weeks and weeks because it was obvious they never bothered to learn it.
3. Disorganization - nearly every week, the facility was FAR too crowded making it extremely disorienting and intimidating for children in the 5 and under class. The coach would consistently not have a thought out game plan of what was being worked on for the week or activities planned ahead of time. Instructions to the kids (REMEMBER, 5 and under)...were simply.."Ok, here you'll do a forward roll, here a jump, here on your hands and feet only." No demonstration, no explanation, just a, "Hey kids with little attention spans, hope you heard that thing I said one time in this really loud room!"
4. Discipline - Parent expectations should be addressed as well. During our time, many parents simply just sit on the bleachers reading their kindles or staring into the void of their phones, leaving their children with teenagers that have no idea how to discipline children. This created an environment where some kids would consistently cut in line, act up, etc, and take away the coaches attention. Surprisingly, coaches would often feed those behaviors by simply showing the kids acting out POSITIVE attention and ignoring the children trying their best to follow the rules.
This place has a monopoly on Holly Springs, and they know it. This review WILL fall on deaf ears, because I'm sure somebody took our spot within minutes. I STRONGLY encourage you to think about what your family is getting out of this place. Maybe if your kids are older and actually want to compete at some level...this could be a good fit, but I do not think Sonshine should be holding classes for 1st grade or lower without seriously restructuring their entire program.
Honestly, if you buy some cheap equipment on Amazon, your kid will have better coaching from a person that cares about them (you), will get more physical activity and skills learned cause you own the equipment and can set your own schedule, and you'll save a ton of money.

My daughter is a member of the Trampoline & Tumbling Team at Sonshine - she started in the preschool program, and moved through Junior Elite and Stars 1 & 2 before falling in love with T&T. She has absolutely thrived under the coaches at Sonshine, especially Coach Robert (the T&T head coach). We couldn’t be happier there!

Our son has been attending the Ninja program (Coach D) and Tumbler jr 1 (Coach Levar) for the last few months. The classes are well run and the coaches really put the children to task.
Each coach spends time ensuring their student is working towards a solid fountain.
It's the coaches enthusiasm and care for the children that's impressive. They have an excitement that's palpable. You can see they take pride in what each child is achieving. Their care and joy is what we are most grateful for each time we come to class.

I've been impressed with the way Sonshine evaluated my daughter and made sure she ended up in the right class. They spent time working with her and gave me a thoughtful assessment of her abilities and areas where she would need to grow. My daughter has been pleased by the way that the teachers push students to succeed.
One thing that's evident is that this is a gym for beginners and for those who intend to be seriously involved in gymnastics for years to come. I would definitely recommend it.

I have always called Sonshine my home away from home. It’s where I got my start as a gymnastics coach. Sonshine gave me the opportunity to pursue my passion in a positive and encouraging environment. There my passion grew. 16 years later I am still coaching and still maintain a relationship with Coach Milan as he was a positive influence and a huge reason I am where I am today. Without his guidance and support I can’t say where I would be right now. He believed in me and took the time to teach me. As a black man I can say that not often have I felt welcomed but Coach Milan treated me as if I was family and for that I am forever grateful.

I highly recommend this gym. I have two gymnasts age 13 and 16 that love going to the gym each day. We have been going to Sonshine for over 13 years and have watched my daughters flourish not only into solid gymnasts but disciplined, goal motivated, respectful young ladies. Gymnastics is not an easy sport and requires a lot of mental toughness and positive attitude to get through the challenges put in their way. The coaching staff has varied experience and is diverse racially and culturally that helps tailor coaching needs for the child.

We love Sonshine! Our daughter started in a recreational class and she is now part of their competitive team. The coaches are amazing! We’ve watched her grow so much while we’ve been here - both physically and mentally. She has an inner confidence that we see in the gym but it has also carried over to other parts of her life outside of the gym. They work very hard, but they also have fun. Her love for gymnastics has only grown during our time here. It’s our home away from home!

I was a student there myself as a 6 year old and had a deep passion for gymnastics and had dreams to be on level ten until a few coaches brought me down and couldn’t pick me back up. I kept that a secret for a while until my mother noticed grunting and sadness walking into the gym. When practice ended, she had a long talk making sure it was the right thing I wanted and since she wasn’t a huge gymnastics fan, I quit and it was all because of the coaches who tore a 6 year old to pieces and couldn’t put her back together.

Watch your young children closely while there, teachers are inattentive. First few classes were great but gradually worsened. Don’t bother complaining either as no one cares; they are already overcrowded and have little concern whether you stay or not. You will sign every right away and then expose your child to substandard instruction. Beware!!!

Started very nice at 4 year old class. However, 5 year old class is being taught by 5 teenage girls who talk and do not pay attention to the students. I complained, but no one listened. When I called to dis-enroll, they didn’t even bother asking why. Too many students there, so we will try other place. Other classes I Sonshine looked a lot more professional, so we probably got “lucky”.

It's unorganized. Every time I've talked to the front desk, in person or on the phone, I've been met with 'oh, I'm not sure, I don't handle that' or a similar response. Never ONCE have I had a response from Tara, the stars coordinator, thru email or phone. I feel like they're just trying to fill spots with a warm body to pay tuition. It's really too bad.

ETA They have also posted religious propoganda of Franklin Graham.
We have 2 kids that are in recreational class at Sonshine and they love their coaches and have fun. This past year been gthough has been getting more and more frustrating because they continue to take in new students even though it is waaaaay overcrowded. You can barely move in there when trying to get your child to and from classes. I feel like it is all about how many kids they can constantly cram in there to make money money money.

My 5 year old has always been afraid of heights to the point that she latches on to me if I pick her up too fast. She attended 2 times and was very timid, but wanted to keep trying. Halfway through her third class she was brought to me in tears because she was scared.
My daughter attended 2.5 classes, but we were charged for another month before we could cancel.
When I called I was told we would have to cancel 30 days in advance to keep from being charged. So what that means is as soon as she finished her first class I would have had to decide for her to keep going or not or would automatically get charged for a second month no matter if she came 1 more time or not. That policy makes zero sense.
Basically anytime you join for one month you are really joining for 2 months because of that policy.

Sonshine has become like family to our little girl. She started out in a rec class at age five and now does Stars and Tumble at age eight. She looks forward to going to practice every week. We have truly enjoyed watching her flourish and become a talented little gymnast. Her coaches genuinely love her and want the best for her and PRAY with her at the end of each practice. The older girls and coaches give her a real life example of what to strive for as a gymnast and motivate her weekly. In my opinion, you couldn’t ask for more from a gym. Thank you, Sonshine, for all you do!

Sonshine Gymnastics, hmmm where do i begin? Sonshine is a GREAT christian community, where ur children can learn grand gymnastics. SONSHINE IS THE BEEEEST GYYYYMMM INNNNN THHHEEEE ARRREEEAAAAA. gymnast are hardworking, and talented here. the coaches are AMAZING at their jobs and always seem to amaze me. John the Bar and vault level 6-10 coach (is very tuff) BUT he’s just trying to make us better. terri is beam and floor coach but is also tuff but she’s also amazing and very good at her job and clearly can do it well. Brittney and joy the conditioning coaches are very good at getting us strong. The equipment at this gym is HIGH quality and you can tell they spend time on getting and keeping the equipment safe and clean. Fun but competitive environment.

Stay far away from this gym. The coaches all try to get performance out of the children with negativity, fear and intimidation. Our daughter and many of her team mates come home crying daily and fear going to gym because they are in fear of being yelled at and degraded in front of their team mates. Britni the head coach has anger management issues and is always out of control with her mouth and comments. Many of the parents are looking for new gyms but most are full or too far away.
We have had meetings with the owners and they don't care and would rather make excuses instead of looking at constructive ways to enact change.
Stay far away from Sonshine.

My 5 year old did a afternoon beamer training class last year. Coaches are amazing. My daughter loves Brenna, Lane, Johnny & Mr. D. Now the ladies behind the desk, that’s a different story. After I explained it would be too much commitment for our family, I was told if I didn’t move my daughter up to the next level now “the door would close and would not open again at this gym.” My daughter is FIVE. I understand Olympic & college bound gymnasts start at a very young age, but why the added mom guilt? The next level is over double of what I was paying. The evening drop off/pick up parking is insane. I suggested they open more parking and was met with a rude, unhelpful response. No suggestions or advice, except that parking will be available later in the evening and they cannot open anymore parking behind where they have the cones for the camps. Then, she shut the window on me. It’s a problem when you cannot find parking to walk your young child in. Too many classes going on at once. My daughter was completely overwhelmed & asked after the 3rd session this year, not to come back. Huge difference in afternoon to evening classes. They really pack you in there.
Both my kids, 10 & 5 love parents night out. 5* for the coaches & activities.

My daughter enjoyed her time there, but profit and the mighty dollar comes first at Sonshine. It is evident in the amount of classes they pack into every time slot. Everything comes with a fee, including end-of-the-year parties, to include pizza, drinks and desert for a whopping $28. I just sent an email complaint to the owner about a recent interaction I had with his staff, but I am certainly not holding my breath that I will get a response. In my daughter's four years at Sonshine, I have never met him or his wife.

For the past few months all my kid did in class was jump on the trampoline unattended while her instructors focused on the older more advanced children in her group. Unfair, and unacceptable.
