I go here only because it is closer to home. Nice walking track./s Temperature while walking frequently has temperature deviations. Cold on one end, hot on the other end. However I like that it is not too crowded with people. I don't like people much. Bad thing is they generally keep the temperature in the locker room too warm and humid. Both Winter and Summer. I leave the place feeling like I hadn't showered. The water that comes out of the bottle fill station at the desk needs filtration. Water tastes terrible. Good that the place got painted. It sure needed it. Hopefully some time I can find something to say good about this Y, but I doubt it. And they are still putting cardboard in the windows around the walking track. Very third world of them. For some time I have been noticing how the older maintenance man works, and moves about the place in such a way, which is indicative of the fact that he takes pride in his work. Could be why the hot tub has been operating the best it has in years. Dang, I actually said something good. Lol

I recently rejoined the YMCA in Stokes County, NC. I was a member many years ago, but I have to admit, I was really surprised and saddened to see how things needed painting, deep cleaned and just refreshing. The equipment is wonderful to me and the staff are just as wonderful, but I do think it would be more appealing if things were freshened up with new, bright paint and some deep cleaning completed. The women’s locker appears very dirty. The cardboard along the windows on the walking track are an eyesore and simple blinds would look so much better. As much money as the Y takes in, cardboard just shouldn’t be an option. Many of the “posters of the givers” along the walking area are very dated or just needs to be removed or updated. Some bright posters of encouragement would be a much better option and uplifting. All in all, I’m glad I rejoined and I look forward to continuing to go. I’m thankful for a Y so close to me.

Staff was welcoming and informative during the membership and registration process. Carrie was great to deal with. I would recommend this location to any of my friends, family,or anyone in general looking for a membership to the Y.I appreciate you all!

None of the plates are the same size , none of the plates are put up in the right spots like trying to get 3 plates that ate the same size on each side of the bar is impossible because they are spread all throughout the gym.all of the plates are incredibly old rusty and moldy . All of the bars are spinning so when you deadlift the weight just spins around making it very hard to grip . Theres one spot for deadlifting that has a hole in the floor that has not been fixed at all and its been 2 years atleast . The saunas are not hot at all and just feel room temperature

I have been working out at the Y for three years. This was my first time trying a gym out since another gym in the area ripped me off with nefarious collection practices (my bank gave me a new debit card, which caused my monthly withdrawal to be declined; instead of attempting to call me for a new card number, they sent my bill off to a collector and slapped an additional $25 fee on it and essentially told me "too bad" when I complained; thankfully the Y does none of this nonsense). Membership is $45, month-to-month, cancel anytime.
This is an excellent place where I will often jump on the treadmill, lift a bit, swim some laps, relax in the hot tub, or shoot some basketball. They also have recreational leagues for those who are interested. I was able to whip myself into shape to climb some of the more difficult state high points in the Lower 48, and continue to work out here in hopes of being in good enough shape to climb Denali sometime soon.
Some of the equipment is a bit dated, but the family-friendly atmosphere makes up for it. They will also not tolerate any of the locker room nonsense that is happening far too often at locker rooms in high schools, colleges, and at a very prominent national fitness chain, and will ensure that both men and women feel safe and respected at their facilities. Highly recommended!

Stokes YMCA is not open on Sundays and barely open on Saturdays. Life guard kept telling me to swim in a different area because of “lessons”=They should always have a section open for swim.

I've had a membership for several years now, and I love the Stokes family Y. The staff is kind and the personal trainers I've met are the best. One of my favorite places to go 🏀

Stokes Family YMCA - King, is a great, absolutely amazingly awesome, clean, friendly, kid friendly, safe environment for our children, the staff, the volunteers, & even ourselves (when/if we decide to go to the YMCA). Our youngest son, 8 years old, will be attending walnut cove elementary school in Walnut cove NC this school year, & the King YMCA reached out to Jinna and asked about bringing Jaxson to the YMCA, on Saturday, August-03-2024 at 8:00 am, & pick Jaxson back up at 12:00 noon - 12:30 pm he's going back to school shopping with the YMCA and volunteers and many of his friends & peers he has missed. We're really looking forward to it for him. He needs this little bit of time away from us, & it'll do him A LOT of good to be out & about spending time with & playing with his friends & peers. We're looking forward to hearing him tell us all about how great of a time he had.

Poor maintenance of gym equipment.
Frequently asking to have things repaired after being FOUND broken.
Was told to go to the front to ask for a tool to repair it MYSELF.
FREQUENTLY reported bolt are loose on different pieces of equipment and repairs needed but nothing done.
One more thing. How about having ventilation in the men's locker room and restrooms? The smell of fecal material is unreal in the mornings in both areas due to no air freshener and poor air movement.

My experience here was overall quite well for the time I attended this YMCA regularly from 2018 to 2020. I received a great discounted rate during the time I went from the YMCA staff. I cannot think of a single instance I was treated rudely or without courtesy by anyone at this YMCA.
I mostly came here to use the large physical fitness center room. The free weights and weight lifting equipment always worked well and it was never once too crowded inside. There was a wide variety of equipment to choose from to work different muscle groups and perform various exercises to boost my fitness and strength. There was also plenty of cardio workout gym equipment for running, et cetera, to improve cardiovascular health and fitness. And I want to say I think the equipment was better than the Planet Fitness I attended for some time in Winston Salem, NC before switching to the YMCA in 2018.
Also there are large gym courts with tracks above them to run on that I enjoyed using when I wanted to go out of the physical fitness center room and do something a bit different.
Overall, this YMCA felt clean, well kept, and I was always treated with courtesy and respect by the staff and never had an issue with any patrons or other visiting members here. I cannot recall a single instance of rudeness or issues in the several years I regularly attended here.
Although my perspective might be considered limited since I never attended any programs other than an introduction to the facility's gym equipment when I first joined. And I did not ever use the pool or sauna, not even once. I only used the physical fitness center room for weightlifting, cardio, and the tracks above the basketball courts for running and aerobic exercises as I mentioned previously.
But what I did experience here was excellent and I recommend this YMCA to anyone who needs or wants to use a gym or be a member of a fine facility intended for fitness. And did I mention the surrounding location is fine too? Not much traffic around and not in a busy area... very easy to travel around this mostly rural area unlike some gyms.
I only stopped attending the Stokes Family YMCA when the Covid pandemic started in 2020 and caused this place to be closed and inoperable and then not too long after that, I was unable to return post-Covid pandemic due to moving from Winston Salem, NC to Lexington, NC in the year 2020. I do miss this place from time to time. I simply lived too far away then to make it practicable to ever return and be a regular member at this specific YMCA facility.

I don’t understand why the sauna here is never hot. Other gyms in the area have great saunas and they are able to keep them at the temperatures they should be at but for some reason this place just can’t seem to manage that. If your able to go somewhere else I would recommend going there

Kept my kids there for summer program and it was a nightmare of neglect. I would call to try to talk to the child care coordinator but my calls were always redirected to a non-working number and when I called back my message would be took and never returned.
Now they are trying to con me out of over $100 saying that the last week of summer care wasn’t ACTUALLY covered (even tho I paid in full before the start) because our elementary school ended up starting 1 week late.
Ok… why wasn’t I informed at all before this? Why wasn’t I called or emailed this information? Why did you have a Celebration Week the very week you claim you weren’t actually a “summer camp”?
Taking this horrible place to court and I’d love to know who else they are doing this to so we can stop this scam.

I used to go swimming here all the time. It was about a 2 years ago when I last was here. I thought about swimming again due to my bad back. The pool is disgusting! The last time I was there during COVID I had 2 bandaids stick to my feet in the same lane. I complained about an old man spitting into the side of the pool and I complained the “lifeguards” were spraying the laundry baskets with something then dunking them into the pool after spraying them. Now, this was during COVID once again! The laundry baskets were supposed to keep germs out of the pool. No one cared when I complained. This is why I never have gone back. Stokes county needs a better pool option and a less run down place to go. The womens locker room also had mold! After reading about the 80 year old woman being banned from the YMCA in Washington for a trans looking at young girls in the locker room it makes me even more sick to my stomach about ever returning to this place.

It was a very poor experience, I think twice before going there. My son was treated poorly, he just wanted to play ball not even 30 minutes he arrived they asked him to leave. No communication was given to us about reservation. Poor verbage and rudeness, when they were asking him to leave. My son was bothered by the situation he called me while he was walking out, still they were giving him attitude, I'm not sure why, he wasn't even speaking to them. Occasionally when he gets upset he may say a bad word or two trying to explain the situation and the same person said you "watch your language boy"! I Know this is not a professional way to talk. This is uncalled for and we will never go there again!!!

This is a great place to work out if you fit the super senior demographic that they cater too. Staff is rude, inattentive and constantly targets the younger individuals regarding “reports from other members”. YMCA will never get another dime from me. Such a shame. Its a nice gym, young adults, young families…i would look elsewhere.

Mens lockers are WAY too small. Shower pressure is weak, and space is tight. Weight machines are pretty good. I very much like the signs to clean machines when done! The walking track is soft so is easy on the feet and legs. Love the warm laid back lighting in the area. Hot Tub jets are weak. Hard to tell when it times out. Staff seems not very friendly. In spite of my being critical, overall I like this Y, and like going there. It is laid back and quiet, which I like.

People here aren't very nice, they stare at you in the work out room.
And the teenagers in the basket ball courts are very immature and use bad language. Staff keeps the place clean but still uncomfortable for me, (In my opinion.) I come in to work on me and don't need people staring at me, its very awkward and makes me not want to come.
