Fitness Refinery is the BEST gym in Gastonia! I have not seen anything come close to the state of the art equipment, the friendly staff, and the membership services and offerings! As a woman that’s particular about feeling safe and inclusive in gym environments, Fitness Refinery is such a safe space for women to exercise! All of the members are friendly and it’s such a great community to be apart of. If you’re reading this, you should join! :)

This gym rocks! More than just a place to “burn a sweat”, the employees will greet you with a smile and a hello . It feels more like a it’s a culture of fitness and health. This gym used to be run down and ragged, taken over by David and Rob; completely turned this spot around. Would highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the market for a new culture for fitness.

The gym- sauna and cold plunge, any fitness equipment you could ever want. Female rooms for the ladies, clean lockers, smoothie bar. 🤘

The Fitness Refinery is seriously the best gym around! The owners and staff are always so chill and welcoming, it feels like hanging out with friends while getting a workout in. I used to complain that there weren’t many good gym options nearby, but not anymore! They’ve got a smoothie bar, cold plunge, sauna, and red light therapy coming soon. The vibe is always on point, and I actually look forward to going. 100% recommend checking it out and if you’re not ready to commit, grab a day pass and see for yourself!

My husband and I have been members at Loray for over 7 years. It was a weight lifting gym. For people who want to lift instead of watching kids take selfies on machines. Several months ago the now owners came in and were pretty rude to members, definitely rude to me. When they bought it they did it with an NDA so we just came in one day to having to sign a waiver for the new owners and they were already peddling drinks and bars. I stood in front of the owner for a full minute while he pretended not to notice and kept texting. I was trying to ask them if they threw all my business cards and calendars away that had been on the counter. They had. And I’m not sure why a couple people are saying it’s a good vibe, for the last two months instead of remodeling after close they have had no regard for current members. There was no women’s bathroom for 2 weeks, cords hanging from the ceiling, workers sawing literally where you are trying to work out. There is sheet rock dust everywhere, when you leave it’s all over your clothes. All the things they have been buying are just sitting in the middle if the floor, took out the shelves, nowhere to lay your stuff. They put in enough lighting to where it looks like the surface of the sun, and the personal trainers just take over all the machines with their clients while you are trying to work out. Even better, they took the two huge rooms that many of us had used for years to box, do abs, we all just used those rooms. They have turned them into I guess what they think will be full classes, but they won’t let members go in them when there are no classes. So they took away half of the gym and want 3 times the price. This gym always had a really good vibe, friendly people a huge core group that has lifted together for years always willing to help each other, now it is extremely uncomfortable and dead. No energy. So if you’re wanting a Planet Fitness in West Gastonia at 3 times the price, this is your place.

As per your response, the NDA was signed between you and the previous owner, which is why we walked in and did not know that it was being sold, I didn’t state that we signed one. As for several of your current claims, it is simply not true the women’s bathroom has been unusable for two weeks first the water was turned off and then when it was back on there were men working in there every day , and I was unable to go in there to use the bathroom with men working. So I had to go down to the other part of the building to go to the bathroom.I have never seen a roach there and the “filth” under the machines, it’s there right now or it was a couple days ago.

Updates to add, don’t make the owner angry. He charged our cards a week after we cancelled. Claimed his staff did it incorrectly. He stopped answering our emails and wouldn’t return the money. We had to dispute the charges with our cc companies. Had several people currently there tell us they have seen him lose his temper and throw things. Guess he needed our money. And before you get on here and lie in rebuttal, we have all the unanswered emails. And the notes from our card companies stating you haven’t responded.

Redoing my review in light of the monumental changes made by the new owner. This gym is more than a gem, my expectations have been blown away with the new changes. The place has been completely remodeled, new bathrooms, sauna, smoothie bar, brand new equipment, new fans, lights, flooring and turf, snacks and protein shakes for sale, new merch, new mirrors, cold plunge coming soon, and a machine to check your fat to muscle ratio, the list goes on and on. Really a full stop for all your fitness needs, this gym blows anything in the area or even Charlotte for that matter away!

I’ve been a member since the gym first open in 2013. Absolutely loving the renovations. The space looks incredible fresh, modern, and super motivating. You can really tell a lot of thought went into the design and layout. The new equipment is top-notch and has taken my workouts to the next level. It’s exciting to see the gym leveling up like this, and I can’t wait to make the most of it. Big kudos to the team for creating such an energizing environment!

Hands down the best gym in town!
The facility is always clean, the equipment is new and well-maintained, and there’s a great variety of options for every fitness level. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. They make you feel welcome and motivated!

What sets this gym apart is the community vibe. Whether you’re into weight training, cardio, classes, or just looking to get started, there’s something for everyone. I’ve made real progress since joining, and it’s honestly one of the best parts of my day.

This gym is in such a unique space being at the bottom of a mill giving it historic charm with modern upgrades.
From a footprint perspective, it's spacious and they've upgraded the current equipment and machines to top of the line pieces. The group fitness and bootcamp areas have a variety of new equipment and barre bars for effective classes and no longer smell terrible. Many members have commented on how it's clean now under new ownership instead of trash bins that went ages without being emptied and dust everywhere.

The previous dated, broken, and dirty bathrooms are now clean, have updated showers, finally have soap and paper towels, and no overflowed trash bins. Each locker room also will have an infrared sauna.

The smoothie bar is also in progress, which will be a nice addition.

The astroturf has been replaced and moved to allow for more floor space for workouts.

They've added better lighting and fans and overhauled the space to make it an amazing gym and value for the money. It may cost a little more now, but it's a completely different experience than months ago.

The new owners have 20+ years of gym experience and really want to make this place the best they can for members.

Phenomenal gym. Spacious, clean, and welcoming environment. This establishment has new owners, and improvements have been made since their arrival. From saunas, cold plunges, and over 40 pieces of new equipment coming in, this place will be the best gym in the entire Gaston County. I am beyond excited! Gastonia has needed this for a long time.
