I adore this yoga studio and these amazing instructors. Definitely among the best in the Triangle if you are looking for an authentic experience grounded in yoga philosophy and deep knowledge of anatomy and asanas.

Paul is the best yoga teacher I've ever had. His technical knowledge of yoga is unmatched, and he will help you build confidence in your own practice. Take advantage of Thousand Petals Yoga if you are in Chapel Hill -- I didn't realize how lucky I was until I moved away. Also, I leave out Sommer only because I haven't practiced with her, but I imagine she's just as good (or better).

As a 20-year yoga devotee, I tried several local studios until I found my home at Thousand Petals Yoga. Paul and Sommer's classes are challenging but fun, spiritual but lighthearted, which is the perfect mix for me. I appreciate the postures, the positivity, and even the puns.

This space is so special. I am new to the area and felt a huge energetic welcome hug from this space and Sommerโ€™s teachings and grace. The space itself is beautiful and serene. Sommerโ€™s class was a beautiful flow of challenging and mindful - more than a โ€œwestern style yoga classโ€, she taught from her heart while incorporating eastern teachings and it was very much felt and deeply appreciated. Thanks so much! I will be back.

All the other glowing reviews stole my thunder! Paul and Sommer are simply the real deal. I moved 3 states away back in 2018 so now I rely solely on their online offerings. It almost always feels like whatever class I am doing was designed with me in mind - the message of the day going straight to my heart. Their Mellow Yellow series is beginning level classes (~30 minutes each) that very deeply explore the foundation and alignment principles. I highly recommend.

I've been taking Paul and Sommer's classes for over 14 years. Paul and Sommer teach from a deep place of knowledge and practice. They teach their students how to move through the poses and make it fun at the same time. All you have to do is look at their website to get the vibe. I also appreciate that they weave nuggets of yoga philosophy into their classes and encourage their students to take the practices off the mat. Although I have missed taking in person classes with them due to Covid, I am very appreciative of the library they offer up so I can practice anytime. Yay to Paul and Sommer and Thousand Petals Yoga.

I went to my first class this evening. It was fantastic, fun, playful, twisty yoga! The class was relaxed and flexible, but I still worked hard. The ambiance is just beautiful - like summer camp for grown-ups. I feel great. Will definitely return.

I've been practicing yoga multiple times a week with the Sobins for almost 17 years. In addition to the knowledge, enthusiasm and respect they bring to the practice, they have created a community of practitioners that is always supportive and fun to be around. My life has been immeasurably enriched by knowing, and studying with, them

Playful and rigorous, joyful and strong, wise and whimsical, rooted deep in earth, sky, water, air, and tradition while creative and welcoming the new. It is a leap of faith to commend one's body and mind to the challenging practices of yoga and over many years I have always felt wonderfully protected, safe, and held with Sommer and Paul. It's been a beautiful, life-changing journey and i've learned in every realm from their teachings and example, Paul's silly puns, Sommer bringing me closer to the sacred, and both of their focused commitment and ability to connect our embodied practices to old and large teachings about how to be alive and to face even death. Even the shortest on-line practice squeezed into busy days brings me back to what matters and keeps me centered, the on-line live classes kept me sane and grounded during the pandemic, and the return to in-person classes is pure DELIGHT. I am so grateful for their care and challengeโ€”without it i would never have written my last two books, as i recognize in my acknowledgments! :-)

Paul and Sommer are the real deal--deeply knowledgable, welcoming, open-hearted, and *gifted* teachers. I started taking their classes in Durham almost 15 years ago, and when I had to leave NC for work, it left a big Paul-and-Sommer-shaped hole in my life. I couldn't be happier that I can now stream their classes on demand *and* live several times a week. Life is now complete! I can't recommend TPY highly enough--just check it out! You won't regret it.

Sommer and Paul never cease to amaze me. Their teaching is accessible, warm, and thoughtful, with a depth of knowledge and insight that is unparalleled. I've been teaching yoga for 20 years, and look to them, always, for inspiration in my own teaching and practice. Sommer weaves yogic philosophy seamlessly into her highly attuned and intentional teaching. Paul brings humor, anatomical intelligence and insight, and they both are delightful. All the stars!

I began practicing with Sommer and Paul in 2015. As a busy mom of two young kids, their teachings and practice were just the kind of self care I was looking for. It still serves me today! Sommer and Paul offer excellent alignment cues, beautiful wisdom and playful humor! Their classes are really awesome! Always something for everyone!

I have been to many different yoga studios and teachers in different countries and cities, and Thousand Petals Yoga is hands down, the best. It takes many different aspects for me to feel really connected to a space and the teachers; Paul and Sommer are some of the most kind, open-hearted, knowledgeable and wise people I have ever met. Their classes are a perfect mixture of strength, stability, philosophy; combining body connection and strengthening with inner work. Their available content online is also superb, which makes them so accessible to everyone. I cannot recommend them enough.

I've been a student of Paul and Sommer for more than a decade. I love the balance and variety their classes offer. There's both humor and a serious focus on alignment that enables a safe practice that nourishes and challenges our bodies. In their classes, I feel known and seen--even in the virtual space, which is truly rare.

I encourage folks to explore their online prerecorded offerings, their livestreams (my favorite), and their limited in-person classes (in a beautiful, airy space). Expect a practice that's playful, intentional, grounded, down-to-earth, joyful, warm, and accessible. You'll leave your mat with a smile :-)

The best yoga! Sommer and Paul have a way of creating community even through the screen. The online library has every type of class you could want from beautiful grounding meditations to playful and funny asana practices. They teach very clear alignment so you stay safe. At the end of class my body and mind feels awesome.

My journey with Paul and Sommer (Thousand Petals Yoga) began in January 2014. I was a solo yoga practitioner for many years. I thought practicing alone was the best way for me to practice. I resisted group yoga classes, fearing distraction and comparison.

Thank the Universe that I let my resistance melt away. After hearing about Paul and Sommer for years, I decided to take a class. The minute I walked into Paulโ€™s class I felt like I was home. He welcomed me like an old friend, sister, and community member. One practice and one moment led to the next and I completed their immersion program and teacher training. All OUTSTANDING!!!

In 2018 I crossed the line with my practice (pushing too hard and disconnected from the essence of yoga). I chose to step away from my mat and the community. It was one of the toughest decisions Iโ€™ve made.

After cultivating a deeper, more harmonious connection to my needs through meditation and qigong, I felt ready to return to my yoga practice. In June 2021, I walked into one of Paul and Sommerโ€™s pop up classes at Sfeer studio. No judgement, only love welcomed me. I was home again.

I cannot say enough about Paul and Sommer and the community theyโ€™ve built. And now they're online!!! I can practice with them whenever I want.

Their unique, community-oriented, heart-centered style is unprecedented. Give them a chance. You will be glowing with gratitude at the end of your practice.

Alright...Way to Go! ;)

Sommer and Paul have been my yoga guides since they moved to North Carolina almost two decades ago. I have been practicing yoga since the 1980โ€™s with 35 years of teaching experience and still I find something fresh and new in every practice class. I eagerly borrow ideas for my own teaching and feel so inspired to see that classes can embrace beginners and challenge experienced yoga folks in the same room. Add to to that their guidance and encouragement as I worked my way through two hip replacements confident that punched back to zero my yoga would steadily move forward again. In person or live video or in tasty spots from the virtual library they are tops.

I have been studying with Sommer and Paul for several years. I enjoy taking classes from both of them each week as together they provide a nice balance for my practice. When I am not able to attend in-person classes or live streaming, the on-demand subscription is very convenient โ€“ it is nice to be able to practice with Sommer and Paul in a variety of delivery methods. Highly recommend! All levels are always welcome.

I started practicing with Sommer and Paul over 15 years ago, and missed their classes when I moved abroad. Over the past year+, the livestream classes have been a wonderful way to reconnect, both to the practice and the community. It's always the perfect balance of depth and levity, difficulty and ease -- highly recommend!

I whole heartedly endorse Thousand Petals Yoga. They've been my teachers since '08 and I'm so thankful for their virtual classes during these times. They've changed my life and my families lives in the best possible ways. The way they teach transmutes beyond space and time. Practicing at home with them fills me up in the same way their in person classes used to, I'm still snorting out loud at Paul's punny jokes!!!! I have always felt included, loved, and valued in the spaces they hold and as a bpoc in the southern yoga scence I cannot put into words how important and healing that has been for me. I highly recommend this business.

I started going to Thousand Petals last March, during a time of crisis. I was dragged to a first class by a friend. Last session I attended more classes than anyone else 39 classes over 13 weeks. I went there again this morning.- and I'll go again this evening. This has been a year of profound transition and loss and I don't really know that I would have been able to handle it so well without the yoga. To be clear, this is both a physically and emotionally challenging class that seeks to help students find balance both physically and emotionally. The process is deeply grounding, and the studio is a community as well as a facility. could not recommend it more highly.

Beginners series is a great way to get comfortable with the basics and build a foundation for your practice. Intermediate series is challenging and fun.
