Worst customer service!! Try cancelling membership and the hoops you have to go through is ridiculous. I never stepped foot inside the gym (my son signed me up for rehab, I broke my leg 2 months prior, of course nothing has gone as planned) We have been falsely charged for 2 months and they refuse to reimburse even though I have never utilized the facility and never signed a contract.

I purchased a 2 week pass while in town for a death in the family. While inside its not the fanciest looking gym, it has what I need and its not so crowded that I can’t access the weights or machines. The staff is friendly and helpful.

My only suggestion is to post staff hours on the website or their google/yelp page so visitors can know when to come in. I showed up a bit early today and am waiting to get in. They seem to have keycard/pass entry for members but my hand-written pass isn’t going to do the trick.

I was a member of this gym for 4 years. The gym atmosphere was nice, the facilities were nothing to rave about but they got the job done and were average. Upon acquiring new ownership, things started to digress. Unprofessional management was hired, a rotating door of front desk employees, equipment broken, promises of fixing things such as sauna(a driver in choosing this gym), no proration of membership to accommodate, childcare not open(another reason some chose this gym)and to top it off a monthly fee increase.
The tipping point of this review, was when I was police escorted out of this gym, that I had come to almost daily for the past four years, and the banned. Leading up to this I had a very unprofessional experience with the manager at the front, due to just asking a basic question. I then asked for the owner’s number to discuss a few of these issues. I discussed over the phone some things that were raising concerns of a-lot of his members. I felt he gave me excuses, but did so in a respectful manner. I wasn’t convinced anything would change, but decided to give it a few weeks. After about a month had passed, he made his way in and I asked to speak with him; as nothing had changed yet we his customers were getting a monthly price increase. He asked if I would mind stepping into his office, I had no problem with that. I am a very easy person to please, but I am a customer service advocate, and believe in the importance of valuing the customers who support your business. Once in the office I offered well wishes(because during our phone conversation he had been sick), then I got right to it. I expressed that it was a consensus that the regulars were not happy with all of the things “being swept under the rug”, and no one felt heard. You have to understand this is a gym that is a community of sorts and is almost a social gathering to some(however taking our health seriously). I took it upon myself to be the voice for this community, because I myself have felt this way. At first there were the same excuses from before, and this time I pushed back in a very positive and professional manner, however that was not acceptable in his eyes. He quickly stood up from behind his desk and leaned forward attempting to tower over me and intimidate me. I continued to sit there and speak my peace, he moved from behind the desk asking my name and telling me I was banned. I laughed because of the audacity he displayed in treating me (a long standing customer, my husband and kids in summers as well) this way, for merely addressing viable concerns to him. Then I told him I would not be leaving, and he could in fact have me escorted out if he wanted, so he did. I used some choice words on my way out because after all I had displayed a courteous nature and constructive feedback for his business, and supporting customers, and it was defiled, so at that point you get what you get. The funniest thing was the officer who escorted me out, after explaining the situation said she too went there and felt the same way. My husband cancelled his membership and we are no longer a part of this gym. Everything happened for a reason and I am now grateful to be at Planet Fitness.

Nearly impossible to cancel your membership here. I had to physically cancel my card just to cancel. Tried calling their billing company for weeks and could never get ahold of anyone. When I finally did they made me send an email to cancel and they still haven’t which is why I had to cancel my card. Never come here. I will never do business with TruFitness again. I signed up for a special promotion and paid my dues, but now I’m dealing with legal issues because of them. After I fulfilled my obligations, they had the audacity to make fraudulent charges on my credit card. Even after my credit card company sided with me, they’re still demanding additional payments and refusing to cancel my membership unless I pay, causing more charges to pile up. Their behavior is both unethical and unacceptable.

Extremely disappointed with TruFit. They do not tell you when you sign up that you cannot cancel with them, at their location, or over the phone. You have to call their “third party billing department” and boy have I had a time this morning getting the runaround with that department. Nearly impossible to cancel & they’ll continue to just take money from you no matter what. Still haven’t been able to get a hold of it.

I was visiting the area on vacation and bought a weekly pass. I actually have a Planet Fitness membership, but have chosen this gym over PF because I love the range of equipment. Besides the standard treadmills and free weights, they also have rowers, a fan bike, medicine balls, and even a sled, so functional training is possible. The gym was clean and open on time each morning. The other members were considerate and easy to work with. I really like this gym and will be back the next time we vacation in the area.

Wordt experience ever with management there! Steer clear of this gym. Prepaid cash for training sessions my trainer left with no warning or call from the gym or and no other trainers looking to take me on. They will lock you into a contract. I work at a local hair salon and see 150 customers a week. I will be letting everyone know about this gym experience and new people who just moved here.

It absolutely pains me to write this however with the extreme lack of professionalism's displayed by the young man at the front desk-Terrel-and the lack of business tact by the owner Mohammed, they leave me no choice.

I just arrived in town yesterday as I am relocating to the area from Arizona. I saw this gym was 24hrs and stopped in to see what I could do to workout tomorrow, Christmas Day.

the young man and the owner stated unless I was willing to pay for a years membership and then cancel it the day after Christmas they would NOT let me train.

The fitness community is one that should promote health and fitness along with supporting others who want to engage in that lifestyle. This gym‘s core values are clearly not about that-it appears they are only about making money.

Planet Fitness is directly next door and is a much better option than TruFit Gym in my opinion. I am all about supporting local business however, when they are only about making money, not uplifting the community, and have no clue about how to handle appropriate customer service, interest is lost.

I’m sharing my story in hopes that you will not support this gym due to its values and complete lack of doing what’s right.

I have a long list of reasons why I give this gym 5 stars! The gym is extremely clean, the pro shop is awesome for everything you need in one convenient place and the smoothie bar is excellent! Mike makes the best protein shakes to top off a great workout! Haley and Christian are always a warm welcome and friendly conversation at the front desk. I’ve been training with Terrell for around 9 months now and I owe him a million thank yous for all of the support he has been and the progress he’s helped me achieve! The classes are wonderful when you just don’t know where to begin or what to work on. Jennifer and Donna lead a great bodypump class and spin class that I love to participate in. The sauna is a great touch, tanning beds to keep the tan on fleek! We have a great community of dedicated people that go to this gym, it is both very inspiring and motivating while being a judgment free atmosphere. I have made many friends along my journey and was accepted with open arms on day one. I can’t say enough great things about the staff, the equipment, resources and atmosphere of TruFit Shallotte! Keep up the great work everyone! 🙂

Got a week pass, really liked the place, really humid and hot the first day you start though. Next day you're used to it already. Friendly staff, no kids messing around there. If there were duplicates of machines it would be nice, like more cables. If there's a lot of people, it's probably hard to get a full workout compared to most gyms. Overall 9/10 with gym experience.

Good gym for out of town people visiting the area. $40 for a week pass is well worth it. Shallotte was hit with torrential rain and flooded most of the area. Tru Fit brought in a bunch of industrial fans and kept the place open. NICE. Most of my family moved to Calabash and I will be working out here frequently when visiting from VA.

The GM Kristen does not know what she is doing. She has very poor management skills and a true lack of customer service skills. She is rude. And not in touch with the corporate office. She doesn't wear a mask when communicating with the customers. And stated that she has cameras and can see what is going on in the parking lots. She doesn't know the difference between legal papers and what types of communication she is asking a customer for. I suggest if she is going to be dealing with the public she needs to take some to take more training.

Pretty impressed, thought I'd see a planet fitness style place with hardly any free weight but I was pleased to see numerous benches and 2 squat racks. Even had a Texas deadlift bar and dumbbells up to 120lbs. If you're in town for the week swing in, great for a vacation gym.

WOW, I AM PAYING FOR A UNOPEN GYM. 0 stars

This place signed me up for a year with fine print that says we will auto renew and you must give 30 days notice to cancel. Doesn't sound so bad but when you are not warned your year is up and you try and cancel, there is nobody to talk to about it. So you send an email, unfortunately you are 5 days late to request to cancel, no biggie...VERY WRONG!!!!! Because you have now been auto charged for the month and YOU WILL be charged into the second month of your cancellation period... WITHOUT exception. NO warning No leniency because of covid -19, oh yeah did i forget to mention that the gym is NOT EVEN OPEN currently? And has not been since my membership expired but i will still be charged for 2 extra months at $50 to cancel my membership to a gym that is closed and inaccessible????????????? All because i did not mark the no auto renew box that was so tiny next to her where to sign X that i was unable to even read it!!!!!!! Thanks TRUFIT you have been an exceptional help through this horrible experience. Child care was a joke, i can put my kids in front of the tv while i do a workout any time i want. Management and staff are excellent and the atmosphere is comfortable to be in. The facility is very clean, the staff are eager to help a member answer any questions they may have, and all the equipment is kept up and organized.
Iwould highly recommend this gym to anyone wanting to get fit.

As soon as I decided to join a gym TruFit, the staff was there waiting with open arms. I have never been a part of such a positive atmosphere. The staff is amazing and ALWAYS has your best interest at heart. The trainers available are so encouraging and are just as excited about reaching a goal as you are. I most definitely recommend this gym.

Worst place ever, if you sign up they will never let you leave without paying double what you signed up for. Equipment is dirty my friend got staff infection there. Best thing to do is Run from this place. Also management is Rude.

I came to this gym with two of my buddies from Clemson and we had a blast. The free weights and barbell complexes are great for getting massive gains. In addition, the staff were very professional and really elevated the entire experience.

My friends and I are staying at Ocean Isle Beach for spring break and needed a place to train. As soon as we got there we were met by smiling faces. All of the attendants were very helpful in getting us signed in and ready to train. The equipment was top of the line and it was a great training experience. We will definitely be returning to train later.

A couple of my friends and I are visiting from Clemson University and needed a place to workout for the week. We definitely made the right decision by choosing TruFit. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The gym also has a plethora of free weights, cardio machines, and everything necessary for a good workout! Can't wait to get another workout in there today!

This is the best gym I’ve been a member of. The GM, Kristin has gone above and beyond to make my experience top notch. The personal trainers are always very helpful when I need them and the smoothie bar staff are always smiling. ( Strawberry mango/peach protein smoothie) is the absolute BEST. I’ve been a member for about 2 years now and this place wouldn’t be the same without the management and it’s staff. It’s VERY CLEAN and never smells like a “gym” great job to the Shallotte gym staff.

Unkept gym. Ancient equipment.
When something breaks it stays broken or as an inconvenience to members for weeks. If all you want from your gym is a low end experience with old, dirty and broken equipment and an insult of a manager, then this is the place for you.

*They also don't even run their own billing department. So when you want to cancel or change something they simply direct you to an entire other company since they, "can't help with that". This is information that's withheld during the sign up process. Embarrassingly unprofessional and low end company. They actually beg their customers for good Google reviews since they are trying to coast off the reputation from the previous'golds gym' at this location. They have pictures posted that aren't even from this location lying to people about the equipment they have.

Edit: comical response from the "owner". If you cared about your patrons experience you wouldn't find bargain bin contractors to do work while the gym was open during business hours. You don't appreciate the feedback because anytime you attempt to 'improve' the facility it's at the cost of paying customers. Comment with a phone number to your corporate office (which doesn't seem to exist) and I'll be happy
