They literally scammed me, promising I could pay out monthly and cancel any time. I did not discover otherwise until I heard from their lawyers. Strongly do not recommend. $800 waste of time and energy. Theyll make promises about how their membership works then sue you.

Visiting for a few days while in town. Got a weekly pass for $39 (vs. $20/day). Plenty of parking & lots of machines & weights.

Nobody puts anything away. Attachments and weights scattered around. Lots of broken or worn equipment. Water fountain doesnt work. Rubber matts bubbled up and other fun things to trip on. Core exercise options are almost nonexistent. But the absolute biggest complaint, is I signed up for 6 months and paid up front with the understanding that that would be it. They never sent me a contract or agreement but after the 6 month period they continued to charge me on a month to month account and said they will continue to charge me because its a 30 day written notice.
The gym is bad, the scammy behavior is worse.

Sauna hasn’t been working consistently for the past year. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a solid gym but the membership is not cheap, daily guest passes are $20 which makes it hard to invite friends, and gym locker room utilities are often neglected. Giving it two stars for the decent equipment and the friendly staff.

Do not go to this gym inside is decent but the customer service is horrible. (I am active duty military on orders)I attempted to cancel my membership here and was told it was cancelled. only to be charged for the next 6 months unbeknownst to me I tried to speak with the manager and multiple staff members and was ignored and blown off I eventually had to pay the 300 dollars for a gym membership that was supposed to be cancelled months ago

I've been a member at Gold's and similar gyms all my adult life and I can say this place is incredible. I go when I'm in town which is pretty often. The level of equipment for every muscle group is second to none. 24/7 access, childcare, 24/7 vending options. Loads of machines, plate load, cable, Olympic style. They've seriously got everything.
Only knock I've got is the bathrooms. The locker areas are nice but the bathrooms probably need some TLC. Water pressure is low, soap is often out and the toilets, water fountains and faucets may or may not function. A good deal of the cardio equipment is broken in some way but you can usually find one that works. All in all if you're a lifting enthusiast you need to check this place out.

DO NOT GO TO THIS GYM!!!!!!!!!!
I have been with this gym since August of 2021 and have had an amazing experience with the facility and members.
UNTIL, I had to move on to a new location and decided to pay the $200 to end my contract. After I paid the $200 in September of 2024, I was charged the $37.99 every month including the extra $37.99 charge for renovations and upgrades. In total I have been charged 6 times totaling $227.94 AFTER I paid the $200.
Now I have had to come in person 3 separate times to try and receive information or a refund with NO resolution or response from the manager.
Please fine a better gym somewhere else to save your money and time.

Looking to try out a new gym in the area so I showed up during staff hours to get a tour and a workout. Online it shows there is a 5 day pass for free. Come to find out, apparently this location owner doesn’t participate. How can you attract customers by telling them they have to purchase a pass for a full week in order to try it out. I have never been to a gym that doesn’t offer that. All I asked for was a day pass to try out the gym but was told no by the front desk worker.

Long time client and now ex client. This place used to be perfect but it's changed. The atmosphere, the clientele, everything is so geared toward gym bro alpha male culture it's nauseating. Along with the oven priced membership and inexplicable fees I won't be returning. A shame that such a great place has fallen so far

EDIT: My review shows it has been three weeks since posting and their website still shows a 5-day free pass that they do not honor. Somebody is still working very slowly to get this "fixed".
I just moved near SP, away from a city where gyms with Saunas were everywhere. I have an anytime fitness membership for the 24/7 access, but this is one of the only gyms in the area that apparently has a sauna, AND it has 24/7 access. So, since I had already paid for the next two months of membership at my gym, I thought I’d check out the “5 day free pass” that has been advertised on their website for the last three weeks at least. Maybe I could make the transition when my two months is finished.
I drive the 20 minutes there just to be told by the front desk attendant(not blaming him by any means) that “they(whoever they is) have been trying to take that down from the website.” I guess “they” haven’t been trying very hard, because he was insistent that the only pass I would be able to get without a membership is a $20 day pass.
The sauna is enticing, but I won’t spend $20 just to check out the equipment and sauna for a day.
“Oh yea, that’s a mistake but since it hasn’t been taken down yet, we’ll make an exception to the $20 day pass that isn’t advertised online anywhere, next time you come without a membership it will be $20 and we are continuing to work it off the site”… I don’t think the gym would’ve lost any money to make an exception for their own mistake. Tbh it’s less about the money than it is about the principle. Just disappointed in the customer service.

The customer service is horrible when you try to cancel your subscription. They use paramount for billing, and they will harass you daily and will not resolve cancellation issues over the phone.
For military members that move frequently make sure you read the terms for cancellation to avoid predatory practices that capitalize on recurring dues after you leave. The gym will not work with you once you have left.

Do not join this gym. Cancelling the service and payments are through a third party that *will not* stop calling you. They do not honor the SCRA for active duty service members who have to move, I had to pay cancellation fees even after I sent in my orders. The people who call to bill you have no real decision making authority. I casually just needed a gym for days I didn’t want to go to the ones at work - I would have been better off just going for a walk in my neighborhood for free. I cannot say enough terrible things to keep other people away.

I was a longterm member for 5 years plus on and off, and these new owners have messed this gym up completely, what used to be a fairly priced establishment with a variety of plans to accommodate is now jacked up in price with virtually little improvement. I came home this summer and saw the only plan available is 70 down with 50-60 in additional payments a month. Plus, the entire gym charges an additional 34 a month cleaning fee. Considering how already packed in all the machines are, you can be sure that isn’t going to much improvement.
I was such a loyal member of this gym and would have taken a reasonable price in tease from last summer to come back and workout here , but this gym priced me and other loyal members I know out.

I was recommended to try this gym out. I had a membership for 10 days. Their cardio equipment is barely running, their gym equipment is so close together that you have a butt in your face when you are trying to workout. There is never a place to stretch, everyday I ended up having to find a corner somewhere. And they don’t have enough weights to support all of their equipment. Even with all of the equipment, I still had to wait to get on some of the machines. Also, some of the staff members conduct themselves in a very I professional manner and are inappropriately communicating with the memebers. It was extremely uncomfortable to hear. After I had enough I asked to back out of my contract, with only having 10 days. And they are charging me an additional $199. Please go anywhere else but here. Worst gym facility I have ever been too.

Went for over a year while I visited and then moved to NC. Loved this gym at first bc of the versatility of equipment but have to say just feels run down. Broken equipment that hasn’t been fixed in a year. For example - Only one upright bike still works out of 4 and this has been the case since I started going, broken dumbbells 22.5lb weights to be exact, broken mirrors, broken womens lockers, broken womens sauna and 2 of 4 stair climbers. Never enough room in the dumbbell area, either waiting for a bench or making room in another spot in the gym.
They also frequently run out of disposable wipe down hand towels and had everyone using the same cloth towels to wipe down instead.
Also, if you go at certain times of the day there is a class in the only cool down stretch room. I would just leave and do abs at home or sometimes put a mat down in another area of the gym while everyone is weight lifting.
Staff is super nice, but going to try another gym instead.

When I did go to this gym.. 4 years ago it was great.. I have moved twice since and still have been getting billed. Tried sending in a Certified Letter with a written explanation as far as why I wanted to cancel my membership at the begging of January 2023, as requested by the gym. I received the signed receipt back in the mail. I then noticed I was still being charged. I called the gym and the man at the front desk told me there was nothing in my account stating it was going to be canceled and was told to email Mallory.. I then email Mallory and get an email back saying it’s been blocked. Afterwards I called the gym back and they told me to reach out of Paramount, which to me is ridiculous having to reach out to a third party company being I didn’t sign a contract with them.Paramount then told me I would have to email them to cancel. I emailed Paramount and it took them 6 days to respond stating that even though I had sent in certified mail to the gym and attached the receipt to the email that I had not reached out to them and it would be an additional 30 days after my next payment. I wrote back asking for a refund because it’s unacceptable… it’s been 8 days now and 3 emails to Lisa at Paramount and I still haven’t heard anything. Absolutely Ridiculous! I feel like they have gotten enough money out of me being I haven’t been there in 4 years! Oh yeah, but I was told I can enjoy this gym under 5/2/23. Ohh thanks 🙄

I have been a member of this gym for nearly 2 years. In that time, I’ve seen the management take one of the busiest gyms in the area and try their best to ruin it— nearly half of the cardio and strength machines are broken. The water fountain has not worked in over 6 months, and the gym continues to hire trainers that have no business training clients instead of fixing the facilities they have. If the CrossFit gyms were affordable, the majority of members would leave this dump in a heartbeat. Only reason it gets a star is cause Jerry is the coolest gym employee I’ve ever met.

The billing is ran through paramount, so it’s “not their problem” if they try to sell you on “deployment or PCS orders will cancel your contract” IT’S NOT TRUE!
We fell for this, as not only one but two employees verified “if spouse was deployed we’d be able to end the contract”
THIS IS NOT TRUE.
Take your money elsewhere. We’re having to “donate” $60 to a gym we CAN’T go to.
Disappointed doesn’t even begin to describe.

I don’t have an issue with the staff or the equipment, but I do have a problem with corporate billing. 3 years ago I purchase a year membership in cash. Once covid hit, I quit going for obvious reason. Now, it’s been 2 years since I’ve been and just got a noticed there is a negative report on my credit. I didn’t receive a call or mail… just a negative report. When I called to find out why I owe them, the collection agency said I signed a contract which I know 100% didn’t happen. What’s the point in wasting your breath for $150, so I paid it, and then they had the nerve to ask me if I wanted to continue my membership. Why so they can keep charging me after the contract is over?? No thank you! I’ll get a membership at every other gym before I go back to this one.

Seriously disappointed with this business. My husband received PCS orders and we needed to move and cancel the membership.
First, apparently this gym can’t cancel their own memberships, they make you (the client) reach out to some random company (Paramount Acceptance) to *attempt* to cancel your membership. This company then takes forever to reply to your request, comes back with outstanding fees you didn’t know you had, and when you call to speak to an actual person, it’s never someone who actually has the power to cancel your membership and refund you. They then tell you that in order to receive a refund, you need to speak with the owner/manager of the gym (Brett?) because he needs to approve it himself.
I have called the gym multiple times for WEEKS. I have called at every time of day, I have called to the point where the staff all already know who I am and who I want to speak to. Conveniently, Brett is “not in right now” whenever I call, and nobody seems to know when he will be in.
It has been months since we moved and we have yet to hear back from someone with a resolution. I never imagined that this facility would be so disrespectful to a military family by not even giving us the time of day to return our calls.

Signed up for personal trainer but when I no longer had a set schedule to go I tried cancelling. Let the trainer know in January, no one reached out to until February. Only thing they did was set up with another trainer. Called multiple times too talk to Mallory who was in charge and was never there at any time of the day. Left phone number as well for her but was never contacted. Gave up on the idea of them ever replying or contacting me. Trufit does not care about your health only your money. Gym is okay. Cheap, but the group exercise classes are mostly during 9-5 when a lot of people are working. Their billing situation is endlessly annoying. TruFit will completely take care of signing you up for a membership or contract but then if you want to cancel or revise anything you're told to call Paramount, the billing company. I prefer gyms that handle their own memberships start to finish - if you signed me up why can't you also make sure my contract doesn't renew? They wouldn't even allow cancellations during Covid. Regardless, it's not the best gym and it's not the worst. They have all the standard equipment, weights, sauna, child care, etc. It's just not the gym I want to spend my money on.

Because of a deal through health insurance I have 2 gym memberships (one with a competitor up the street). The only reason I use this gym is because of the childcare offered while working out. This facility is pretty grungy and really only seems ideal for people solely interested in lifting weights. There are 4 elliptical machines. One has been out of order with a sign for 2 months now. The other 3 rotate working with today being an all time low of only one (The oldest elliptical mind you) functioning. Also there doesn't seem to be air conditioning and they have a few of these big industrial looking fans that people lug from machine to machine to point at themselves while working out. If I have the option I definitely prefer to use the competitor gym up the street!

Been going to TruFit for a few weeks now and I have to say it is a great gym. The facility is kept clean, the music isn't too loud, and the staff are friendly. The layout of the equipment is good, keeps people from getting too bunched up in one area. I started working out here July 1, 2015. I love this gym. In the area you will not find a better place to push yourself to physically. The staff is always helpful and the personal trainers are very knowledgable. I feel like you can get the same "community feel" you get from a cross fit gym here. Everyone from the staff to the members are very open and easy to talk to. It has the best prices for any gym in the area. So if you are looking to go to the gym as a beginner its easy to get started and you can ask questions to any of the staff or members and they are happy to help. If you feel like your already tracking the gym has a good community feel where everyone pushes each other. Ive been to gyms where everyone seems like they have chonic b**** face and this is not one of them. The gym is rarely completely empty and is never tooooo overly crowded where your not going to be able to find a bench or a piece of equipment. I recommend this gym to all of my friends and of course any stranger looking to join a gym or if you are just visiting.

Best gym in the southern pines, Aberdeen, Pinehurst area by far. If you're an experienced lifter they've got just about all you need. If you break down the pricing it is just as good or better than anywhere else, especially with the amount of equipment they have compared to other places. Just one FYI is that when you sign up for a membership, you arent billed monthly, you pay for the whole thing up front. I don't have a problem with it personally but it can be a lot of cash out of pocket all at once depending on whatever length membership you get. But on the flipside you don't have to worry about any payments or anything after that. You can also get a 24hr access membership upgrade for higher cost but the regular hours are still plenty suitable enough that you probably wouldn't even need 24hr access 95% of the time. Even without 24 hour access you can still show up right before regular hours end and stay until you finish your workout, you just have to get in before they lock up.

This is the best gym I have been to while traveling! Clean, friendly staff, smoothie bar, child care, plenty of classes, tons of equipment, and even friendly members! I took a class here while visiting the Southern Pines area. I took a class with Christy who is an amazing and energetic instructor! She greeted me immediately upon arrival. Several of the ladies in class spoke to me and one even help me find equipment! The gym offers complimentary water. The staff at the smoothie bar is extremely pleasant. The childcare staff was great as well. If I ever come back to the area I will definitely stop in again! Highly recommend this place!

I really enjoy TruFit. They've gotten new equipment and gear since switching from Gold's to TruFit. They definitely upgraded! Staff is friendly, manager is awesome, and the personal trainers are very knowledgeable. I had Liesel and I loved her! She showed no mercy. The people that go there are fine. I've heard were people complain about them being rude or whatnot. It's a gym, not a cookout. 95% of people there are in the zone and doing their thing. They're not there to meet friends and the ones I have met have been friendly.

Excellent fitness center under great management! Since changing from Golds to TruFit Gym - this place has improved dramatically. Friendly staff, well-maintained equipment, no cost child care and now a 24-hour access option. The management here continually strives to make improvements. Updated locker rooms and showers, new upholstery on over 40 pieces of equipment and a completely upgraded look - just to name a few. When/if machines break, they are only down for a day or two. This gym is staffed with friendly people who make you feel welcome. Protein shakes, drinks, and other items are for sale, and there is always someone available at the front desk to help. I am grateful there is a facility that offers this much so close to our home! Thank you!!!

The mixxedfit class was great but the fee i was charged was ridiculous. I go online for a free pass to get a call in return saying that if I wasn't interested in joining I couldn't get the pass..but is that not want the pass is for? For me to try it out then decide if I wanna join..CLEARLY IT'S NOT!..its false advertisement..and this is whether you come alone or with a member..I was told by the worker the fees were..12.00 for one day, 19.99 for three days and 39.99 for a week extremely high when I pay 40 a month at the gym that I go to..so I paid the 12 but u better believe I'll never go back to this gym again I'll just ask the young lady that invited me to come with me to the gym I attend for 5 with a member and if she wants to go without me it's ONLY 10

The guest pass is false advertisement!!!! Don't fall for it! You will be charged $12 to try out the facility unless you join. I was told that I would have to purchase a membership in order to use the free pass and avoid the $12 daily fee which is backwards in my opinion. This process is a turn off and does not encourage anyone to join your establishment. Fitness Connection has TRUE guest passes for 7 days with no hassle.

I am very unhappy with the new management of this Gym. Called to cancel my membership and was told still had to pay a full month even though my months fee had just come out of my account. They have also charged me a wellness fee TODAY for the year AFTER i informed them i was cancelling my membership. No proration just a charge knowing i won’t be there. I’ve been with Golds over 2 years with no problems. But absolutely dislike the new management.

Love the changes Y'all need to improve the cleanliness Need constant monitoring of restrooms and equipment It doesn't take a whole lot to go around with a duster Equipment needs oiled again some of it is sticking Please hire a morning cleaning lady Ladies restroom won't stay nice for long It is not routinely disinfected Been reading some reviews and those who say it's clean must be coming from a much worse experience or no experience with a truly excellent gym Because it's improved doesn't warrant an excellent rating I've been to Golds gyms and other franchises that would put Southern Pines to shame Again on its cleanliness and equipment maintenance I'd rate them a 2 Everything else a "good"

They have a lot of equipment and some space for independent/floor work. It is almost always busy regardless of time of day but I have rarely had to wait for equipment or weights. The staff is friendly. Personally it is overpriced for me but when I first moved here it was the cheapest option and I got suckered into a three year contract so be careful. Their recent updates to the locker rooms have been very nice. They have good personal trainers. The biggest disappointment for me is their lack of weekend hours and times for classes, but that is something I probably should have researched before joining. If you want a good workout, you can certainly get it at Gold's.

I have been lifting at Golds for nearly a year now. The gym itself is also great. Nice equipment and always clean. There are plenty of free weights and tons of machines for every body part. The staff is also great. From being greeted with a smile and hello at the front desk to the guys cleaning and maintaining the equipment talking to you. The child care is good also. Very friendly atmosphere. But my favorite thing about Golds Gym SP is the trainers. I have been under Ronnie Jones since March of this year and the guy is top notch. Very knowledgeable and very driven to see you do your best. I have witnessed him tell members he does not even train that they are doing doing great and to keep it up. Support and motivation like that is what makes this place a top quality gym to train at! Highly recommended to anyone wanting to reach their goals!

"MY" Gold's Gym is the absolute BEST!!! Period! When I began my membership there in February, I was going through a lot of personal issues and had become so depressed! This gym became my outlet and seemed like the ONLY place I could "breathe" because the AMAZING staff there (Liesel, Mallory, Bret, as well as others) have created a free, friendly and family-like culture.
Mallory placed Personal Trainer Liesel with me after finding out I wanted to participate in a bikini competition. This was the PERFECT fit! Liesel has been so much MORE than just a fitness trainer. Rather, she's has become my big sister, Counselor, Nutritionist, and some times cracks the whip like a mom! LOL!...tough when she needs to be and pushes me when I need it the most. She has proved time and time again that she is concerned about my overall well-being. You guys are blessed to have her!
The rest of the staff are INCREDIBLE too and have become my extended family...ALWAYS eager to answer any questions I have, share product/ fitness/ nutrition knowledge, and demonstrate how to properly use equipment etc. Because of the staff at this Gold's gym, I have become so much stronger physically as well as mentally and I am extremely happy with my results thus far! ~JuanessaLG~

Very versatile equipment would enjoy seeing one more cable machine or smith machine. Awesome that there are drinks, tanning, classes, sauna, personal trainers, and locker rooms. Locker rooms being renovated now! For the money, it encompasses pretty much everything. Unfortunately I was very unimpressed by the tanning beds. They are 20 minute beds and extremely old. Had to pry myself out of one today. Have to go for the full 20 just to see a difference. Rarely greeted by staff. Sales are more concerned about generating more sales than offering quality customer service. Had to ask for a tour, what hours were, if there was an annual fee, what promotions were available, etc. Overall would still recommend this gym over any others in the area!

I've been attending golds gym since 2014. I oringinally chose golds over the local gyms because of child care. I was new to the gym scene then. The gym has exceed my expectations. I highly recommend them to all of my mom friends all the time.

I joined Golds at the beginning of year as an alternative to my previous gym. I was uneasy walking in as I'm not used to this type of gym setting. Everyone I met with from gathering information to signing up was beyond helpful. Within the first week I took a fitness assessment and ended up signing up for a year's worth of personal training. I am on week 6 now and I couldn't say enough good things. My trainer, Liesel, has pushed me and created workouts to hold me accountable and really show me results. I can't wait to see the results as the year progresses. I'd definitely recommend this gym to anyone interested in a friendly, not intimidating, helpful gym!

I've been working with the training staff at this Gold's since April, in particular, Mallory. Traveling as much as I do for work, it has been a blessing to be able to contact her from as close as around the corner, to half way around the world. (It's true, we kept in touch via text while I was in Japan!) She keeps me on track as far as eating plans, dietary supplements, and impromptu workouts when the local area gyms aren't up to par. I would highly recommend to anyone looking to improve their overall lifestyle and fitness, to get in touch with Mallory.

Do not sign a contract with them! After injuring my shoulders and getting referred by the military to a private clinic for physical therapy for 8 months I went to Golds Gym to see if I could get out of the gym membership and personal trainer contract...$250 a month. I showed them medical notes stating that I cannot lift more than 5 lbs but they wanted a note from the doc stating that. I got a note but when I showed it to them they said it wasn't good enough. I went to the doc that was referred to me by the military with this contract cancellation letter I got from Golds Gym but the civilian doc would not sign it since it was a legal document. Golds Gym plays dumb saying they want to help you but they purposely pay a third party company to handle contracts so they can hide behind them and say "we cannot really do anything related to contracts, you have to call this company." Well that company is a joke. They tell me I have to prove I cannot use a large portion of the gym but they cannot tell me what that means; I think not lifting more than 5 lbs is evidence enough. Not military friendly; better hope you don't get injured in the field because getting a note signed by a doc in the military's socialized medicine environment is a joke.

I have had a great experience at this Gold's Gym! Brett, the GM, is extremely friendly and helpful. Everyone that I've spoken to/worked with there has been very welcoming and nice. Mondale, my personal trainer, is extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and encouraging. I was a little hesitant to join a Gold's Gym because I found it to be a bit intimidating, but I've found that the clientele of this gym is extremely diverse, and I've never felt judged there. Manager and Personal Trainer Coordinator Scam hardworking citizens of the community:
On June 18, 2015 I signed a contract at Gold's Gym located on 120 W. Morgantan Rd, Southern Pines, NC 28387 with the personal trainer coordinator. Before signing the contract she inquired about how much I can afford to pay If I were to consider hiring a personal trainer. I informed Ms. Mallory that I just signed a $25 gym membership (also through Gold's Gym) and I didn't want to add onto my monthly bills. I explained that I was a full-time graduate student that only worked 20 hours a week due to my school work load. I told her that I could pay maybe $25 dollars. Ms. Nolan then informed me about the deferment options. She said she could check with the manager to see if he would work with me to get my sessions down to $25 dollars. I told told her with my busy schedule I could see a trainer every other week. That would total up to $50 dollars a month. Before signing the contract she then discussed the initial processing fee that totaled up to $139. I once again reconsidered and told her I couldn't afford that. The personal trainer coordinator suggested to defer that payment as well and it would be split in half $69 now and pay the other &69 in two weeks. On June 19, 2015 the full amount was drafted out of my account without my permission, my monthly payment were never deferred totaling to $125 monthly (gym and trainer)! I have great credit because I make great decisions about how to manage my money. This crushed me because I'm paying for something I had no control over!!!
I immediately went to the gym on June 19 and spoke with the manager and informed him that my contract was incorrect. The following 6 months,he has informed me that he has been sending emails to the financial company and a rep who works for Gold's Gym to get it amended. The manager and personal trainer coordinator agreed that my contract was incorrect. They have both blamed the mistakes on the billing company. Until I started documenting and summarizing our conversations via emails and sending it to manager, he never responds or documents his responses. He has been lying to me the entire 6 months about amending my contract. I must admit I am southern girl who may be naive and believe that people will do the right thing but I was wrong!!! I work hard everyday to save and pay $3000 out of pocket every semester for tuition. You would think Gold's Gym would support people in the community that is trying to positive things. I work with kids with autism! I needed to go to the gym to relieve stress but in the end I only gained more. This was truly a mistake. They scam people by making promises to boost commission sales. I am still paying that $125 every month without using my sessions because I want to graduate and buy a house one day (I don't want bad credit). The manager informed me that his hands were tied and even though upper management knew of my situation, they are refusing to give him answer. He said that for me to sweep it under the rug. On another note I was actually very please with my trainer and really wanted this matter to be resolved. Oh well Gold's Gym is just a reflection of it's management. After doing my research scamming citizens into contracts to get commission and not following through on it is common with these two. I'm not the first person this has happened to. I'm not angry just passionate about people in these positions actually doing their jobs.
