Urban is 1 of 2 gyms my husband and I use. In the last few months we had been training elsewhere for convenience reasons. We had a change in payment information and reached out multiple times to urban to update and never got an answer when we would go by there would be no one there. Finally today there was someone there, as there phone number hasn't been working this week, my husband drove by. They sent our account to collections. No bill, no notice, in the past we never had this happen. We've been members at urban for quite sometime and have never had anything like this happen. Its such a shame how far down hill this facility has gone both in ethical practice and in quality of the equipment and up keep of the gym. We wont be going back after this experience.

Pretty sad to see this gym go downhill in the last 6 months! Never staffed, cleaning spray and towels are usually left empty so no one is wiping down equipment. Cardio equipment stays broken and out of order!Even $30 a month doesn’t seem worth it anymore.. shame on you urban athletics

Exactly what I needed in a gym, until I stopped going and they sent me to collections. I thought I had signed up for a month to month agreement. I wasn't able to pay so I stopped going, not knowing they would continue to try and charge my credit card which I had canceled. Granted, I should have read the fine print but I assumed it was like every other gym membership I had in the past. I didnt get an email or a phone call or any attempt to contact me about the balance before they sent it to collections. Now they tell me there is nothing they can do to help because it's already been sent off and I get to continue to take this hit on my credit despite having not used the facility since before i was unable to pay.

On the road traveling and needed a gym for myself and son to get our workout in and this place was just what we needed. We not only could get out cleans and squats in, they had plenty of machines for whatever level of training you are doing. The place was clean and the front desk gal was super friendly. I highly recommend this gym for locals and people just passing through.

Have reached out to this gym via multiple avenues to try to get information as they are part of the Wellhub app. I was trying to get information to pass along to ~1200 staff members who would benefit from this. I would also liked to have started using the facility myself instead of my current gym.

Emails & DMs went ignored, so when I learned they were under new management I reached out again over messenger to see if I could get information to broadcast to staff. The marketing person was helpful but said the manager went out of town for something w/his family, he'll get back to me Tuesday. No problem. Tuesday comes & goes, no contact from the manager.

I followed up by saying apparently new management is about the same, I guess he doesn't want new members. The attitude was a thumbs up to the message instead owning it & apologizing.

At least Blue Ridge Muscle is in the same parking lot. Try that facility instead.

Was visiting Maggie Valley and needed a place to workout. Urban looks like a nice facility, too bad I didn’t get a chance to check it out. The hours of operation is listed as 8am on the website and the gym voicemail also says 8am. I arrived and waited and no one showed up at 8am. A member that was going in informed me that they don’t open until 9am. I was unable to wait due to prior engagements. I paid for a day pass online prior to going.

Phenomenal small town gym that's open 24/7. Super clean! Has everything one could need and even a few things you don't! If you went there before, you need to comeback and see how much they added. The staff is also extremely helpful and friendly. My thank you to the manager for giving Canton a great gym.

I love this gym, the atmosphere is really good. The staff is very welcoming and approachable. If a machine is down, it's not down for very long; it gets fixed immediately. They have a variety of equipment to use, has a old school weight lifting vibe to it but with nice people! I highly recommend it. Also has tanning beds and body scanner and 24/7.

Google just prompted me to review this place because Maps knows I'm here 5 or 6 days a week.

I belong to this gym and to Haywood Regional Fitness Center. I prefer to workout here. It's a great lifting gym. Everyone is here to get work done. No one tries to talk to me (which is ideal when I'm sweating).

I keep my other membership because I sometimes need to work out a little later on Saturday or Sunday and because the other one has a sauna and a steam room. Urban Athletic has a basic locker room with showers.

Urban Athletic has plenty of racks, bars, weights, plates, and the right amount of treadmills and pin selector machines. It's a rare occasion that I feel like I can't manage a superset or don't have something I need.

It's always clean and the staff is really nice. I'll keep coming back. In fact, I'm here now and just finished my pre-workout, so I'd better get to it.

I have been tanning here since it was the tanning factory, and this was the best tanning salon in the county until recently. I have to say that over the past 2 years, things have drastically declined. The tanning equipment is not maintained and in complete disrepair, dirty underneath the glass, and bulbs not working. Bed 6 has had the same 2 bulbs out since last season. While this may not be the core of the business, it's still part of the business and still offered, and therefore, it should be maintained, especially if still charging full price. I recently bought a 1 month upgraded tanning package to use the "big bed" at full price. I was not told the bed had 4 of the central bulbs out. However, they still let me buy the upgraded package without disclosing the information. The staff are not trained to troubleshoot the system or are not even told from one receptionist to the other about the problem, so clients are informed. I have left a message with the staff to give to the owner/manager for compensation, just on the upgraded price, not a full refund. It's been over a week, and still, no response. I am disappointed to know what this facility once was, to look at what it has become today, and will be purchasing elsewhere in the future.

Jessica reached out to me about a complete refund. While I did not want a complete refund, I really appreciated them reading the review and responding so quickly. They have updated the tanning bed bulbs, and I have since purchased there again. Thank you for reaching out and listening to the customers! That, in itself, is worth much more than a refund!!!

So editing my original review. They cannot keep this place staffed with people who actually show up, every week for the past 5 weeks at least once the opening person is not here. Parking lot full of frustrated paying members who can't workout or even get ready for their day in the locker room.

Will definitely be canceling my membership after this latest no show.

Decent equipment. Bathrooms always kinda dirty. Only decent weight room in town or I'd go elsewhere.

Been using this gym for close to 20 years and have been a faithful member and have always enjoyed using the facilities, but in the past year it has completely went down hill, with little to no management, facilities are not clean anymore, equipment is not maintained, today made the 5th time in a month that no one has showed up to open at 5am, when customers pay a membership fee to have a place to work out it should open when expected or put a card system in if you can't get employees to show up, very saddening to see a place go down hill in this manner.
I have since been contacted by the owner and really appreciate the feedback and was told he would look into the issues, have always loved this gym and want it to improve and I thankful for the feedback

Great local place to workout. Just wish they maintained the equipment a little better. Seat pads on equipment are worn out and busted and in need of reupholstering, machines are always tore up. Equipment is in serious need of maintenance at all times. It's got what you need to get a good workout in, but it could be imperatively better. Just my thoughts! Have a great day!

My wife and I are finishing up a 10 day trial period to see if we want to join the center. The pros are that they have a varied and plentiful set of exercise machines, a large free weight section, and what appears to be some serious interval training classes. Additionally, there is a full schedule of different classes in the upstairs group room, which we have yet to try. The machines have all been clean each time we've visited. The existing customers are by and large friendly without having the sense of it being a "social gathering place." The building itself is your basic spartan gym look and includes both mens' and womens' dressing rooms with lockers. The "pro shop" consists of a couple of walls with gym associated shirts, energy bars, and drinks. The receptionist has been very friendly each time we've entered and seems to remember us after the second visit. The check in process for existing members looks extremely easy as they just flash a badge at a scanner. I have only two cons at this point: 1) we've never received a phone call we were told would come within 24 hours to set up assessment sessions and get a tour of how to properly use the equipment and 2) the only offer of help on the cabled machines we've received was from an existing member, who realized we didn't know how to properly use the equipment. As neither a pro or con but a matter of personal choice, I am surprised to see that tanning machines are available. I thought those were things of the past given the cancer risks.

*** Follow up to original post: We are both full members now after completing our 10 day trial period. We had a great meeting with Dusti and very good intro to the equipment prior to joining. We're taking two different classes (Active and Centergy) in addition to the various machines. Just happy to be surviving the classes at this point given my age and renewing that relationship with sore muscles. All in all, it has been avery positive experience!

After an extremely disappointing visit to Tesa's, my sister and I drove to the Urban Athletic Training Center. We were greeted by an extremely friendly and knowledgeable gentleman (Casey). Their rates for tanning and gym membership are reasonable, and they even offer Zumba and Pilates classes for no extra charge with gym membership. Casey offered to give us a tour and a 14-day trial. The tanning beds are of wonderful quality, and the customer service is remarkable. They are open 7 days a week, and the hours are convenient. I highly recommend the Urban Athletic Training Center!
