About the Club

This 18 hole, Par 72 championship golf course offers 18 distinctive, unique holes, featuring natural elevation changes that are both unexpected and exciting. Natural hills and contours, brilliant coloration, plentiful wildlife and native grasses add mightily to the eco experience. This golf course soars and will fly right onto your list of favorite courses.

Black sand bunkers (a unique solution to the lack of white sand in North Dakota, plus it doesnโ€™t blow away in the frequent wind storms) and the devilish design by architect Jim Engh present a layout that will have you feeling youโ€™ve played 18 one-hole golf courses. No club will go unused on this picture perfect course sculpted from land nearby the Missouri River.

My husband has been wanting to golf this course for ages and we finally made it happen!

I will sum it up with 3 letters...WOW ๐Ÿ˜

The course is absolutely beautiful and well maintained. Though not a requirement for a golf course, it was an added bonus that it was teeming with wildlife. Who knew?! The golf carts are super nice, but the GPS lock on them got a little annoying ๐Ÿ˜….

The club house was also great. Everyone working was incredibly nice, knowledgeable and genuinely seemed happy to be there. We had lunch and everything was good (probably wouldn't order the stuffed shrimp again - but that is likely a personal taste preference).

We now understand why this is in the "Big 3" and have now experienced all of them. They all have different aspects that make them amazing in their own right. But I daresay this is #2 in my book - but i'm not a golfer, I just come for moral support and to experience the beauty that ND has to offer ๐Ÿ˜.

Course was beautiful but the tee boxes were poorly labeled, some of the box markers were in the weeds. Luckily we figured to look for the white lines on the path for tee boxes. Make it easier for guests to find their way!

I experienced my first round this week. It's a beautiful course with amazing views and friendly staff. A great long and challenging course.
Unfortunately we lost more balls than usual, the course was very confusing even with the GPS on cart. There is definitely a lack of signage regarding what hole you are on and where and what tee box to use.
Also the wait time was really unfortunate, it says expected pace of play is 15 mins each hole, but impossible to do with t-times 6 minutes a part!

Course was in great shape, and pace of play was excellent. Not quite as scenic as Bully Pulpit, but a solid course nonetheless.

They let 6 sums on the course and donโ€™t manage pace of play. Plan on 5 hours while you wait.

Hawktree was a great golfing experience. Excellent layout with multiple elevation changes. Course was difficult but fair. Course requires you to stay in play. Multiple tee boxes for every skill level. Nice practice range and the balls are included with golf. I recommend this course to anyone who enjoys golf.

The only reason this course even deserves one star is because of the layout, which is fantastic. Iโ€™ve played this course various times since it was initially built so Iโ€™ve seen it through the ups and downs. The last few years are definitely the down years. The fairways are some of the worst fairways Iโ€™ve played on. It appears the owner or greenskeeper doesnโ€™t believe in fertilizer, urea, and/or grass seed. Itโ€™s unfortunate to hit a drive in the fairway and you have to figure out how youโ€™re going to hit the shot because of the way the ball nestles down into the hardpan. Speaking with locals they told me the greens have been aerated for a month and still arenโ€™t healthy. The local city courses may not have the layout or views that Hawktree has but they are in far superior condition. I really hope the owner/greenskeeper makes some changes because it isnโ€™t the Hawktree it once was.

I was unaware of Hawktree until I read Tom Coyne's book titled A Course Called America, and he rated it higher than Bully Pulpit in his book. Given a professional golf writer's rating I thought I had better see it for myself.

My family and I played nine holes (front nine) on a Tuesday at the end of August. The conditions were very warm. However, the carts were clean, staff was courteous, the starter was helpful and knowledgeable, and the course was in very good condition compared to many courses in Minnesota and Wisconsin. We lost a few balls along the way in the rough of the taller grasses. We also encountered a first: bunkers that utilized black sand. The significantly elevated third hole tee box that played down to a green surrounded by oak trees was a pretty cool hole. The homes that lined the course edges were impressive to view as well. Hopefully on the next pass I can complete the remaining holes.

Golfed Hawk for the first time today with three good friends. Coarse was just ok. The cart path can be a bit confusing. I personally didnโ€™t think the coarse rewarded a good tee shot, and the greens were a little beat up. Was expecting a little better manicured coarse for the hype and money.

Ok course but not anywhere near $100 worth. The course is maintained like a muni with weeds and tufts of quack grass everywhere. Customer service and management were dismissive and arrogant. Which is interesting considering they have a lackluster course. Youโ€™d think they would be as friendly and accommodating as possible. The tee times were beyond the control of the starter. Groups were backed up everywhere on a day that was less than busy. The greens were punched a day or two before we played. We called for a tee time a few days ahead and No one ever mentioned that the greens were going to be aerated and covered in sand. Thatโ€™s more than a minor issue that a real professional pro shop would not fail mention to someone making a tee time. We drove out from 4 hours away to play. Not at all worth the drive, the money, or the 5 hours wasted playing. The muniโ€™s in the area are a better bet when you consider theyโ€™re 1/3 the price. Also probably in better shape. This place is almost humorous how seriously they take themselves considering how very average the course is. Theyโ€™ll never get my patronage again. Or anyones in our group for that matter. And after speaking with others on the course, Iโ€™d be surprised if 1 out of 10 would return. Unfortunate because with some effort in maintenance and a lesson in customer service it looks like it could be a nice track.

Itโ€™s a nice course with a great practice area. However, itโ€™s the most overrated course Iโ€™ve ever played. Designed only for cart golf, you will surprisingly find yourself backtracking throughout the course and often directly back toward the group behind you. Pull the pin when you putt, as the sticks donโ€™t fit the cups so they lean across the low side of the hole. Tee blocks throughout the very nice tee areas are set about 10 feet wide. No on-course concessions (beer/water cart etc.). Itโ€™s a good loop for a bogey golfer at any of the mid tees. Not real impressed for $110 (in season non pass holder).

Terrific golf course. Challenging without being silly. set in a developing upscale neighborhood north of Bismark. Well maintained. Definitely the jewel of the triple play. Staff was polite; pro shop well stocked. Course well marked; pace of play excellent. Greens consistent.

Hawktree is the best golf course in ND. Period. It is very challenging, but is incredibly rewarding when your game is on. There are multiple tees to suit all handicaps to ensure fun is had by all. The views are spectacular and the staff and facilities follow suit. If you are in the area, check it out, you will not be dissapointed.

Side note - if you aren't into golf swing out to the Hawk's Nest for the breakfast sandwiches, they are worth the trip on their own.

Played this course awhile back. The topography and meticulous grounds care created a memorable experience for our foursome. Nice people as well.As someone else commented, bring your A game or bring plenty of extra balls.

This is a great course for the Bismarck area. It has some picturesque views that one might not expect for a golf course in that area. Bring lots of extra balls, as higher handicap players will find this a bit difficult. Golf balls are hard to find off the fairways!
Staff was very pleasant. Thanks to Mike for making our round memorable!

Sorry, I don't get it. The course itself is somewhat picturesque with some rolling hills but the design is honestly pretty poor with many forced carries. Also has some of the worst signage (and lack thereof) I've ever seen at a golf course; finding the right tee box on each hole was an adventure.

Stunning golf course. Doesn't get much play because it's in the middle of nowhere, but the course is simply superb. Black sand bunkers and waste areas are so nice to look at. Beautiful views.
