I’ve been going to this club for three months, and it really frustrates me that the sauna and steam room are always dirty. There’s hair and dirt inside, and there’s always an unpleasant smell. I’ve never once seen them clean it. I even asked for a brush so I could clean it myself, but they don’t even have that. If nothing changes, I’m thinking about canceling my membership, because breathing in all that filth is bad for your health.

Staff is horrible. Overcharged my card because it was locked and wouldn’t let me pay the normal monthly price. Wasn’t willing to cooperate so I’d like to say spend your money and time elsewhere. The staff sucks!

It was good until it wasn’t! I needed only pool for lap swimming for my back injury. YMCA has nice big pool with deep end with jacuzzi, steam room and sauna, but there are too many cons. First, The pool water and the air in the pool room are cold. As I’m not a professional swimmer I need breaks in between laps. But as soon as I stop I get cold immediately. Plus, it’s impossible to get in lane after 3 pm as all lanes are reserved. Even though the schedule says 1/2 lanes are available for lap swimming, in real it is not. 4 lanes are occupied by swim team, 2 lanes are reserved by some “special” people (I had no right to do the same for some reason), and last 2 lanes are occupied by lesson instructors. I work until 5ish and was wasting my time coming in the evening and not being able to get in the pool. Second, as sauna, steam room are for everyone, a lot of people go straight there after exercising in the gym. So it’s not fun to sit in stinky sauna with sweaty guys or not even being able to get in there at all. Third, Jacuzzi was great until YMCA switched to new chemicals and my husband got severe allergic reaction all over the body. He is still NOT fully recovered even though it’s happened in April (he was using that jacuzzi for several months occasionally and never had anything like this). And the worst part: when I decided to cancel membership due to not being able to swim after work and not having money due to being laid off I was told that YMCA will charge me for another month and in full but will let me use amenities only for 3 weeks. How is this normal??? So if a member pays for example after middle of the month ahead for the next 30 days but can use gym only for several days after cancellation? And if the reason is no money they still will charge you extra. Very nice!

The YMCA is so much more than a gym and pool! It's a family who welcomes all, cares about individuals, and really cares about making our community a better, stronger place to live. The staff is so welcoming, kind and takes time to get to know everyone that walks through the doors. Why just work out when you can join a family!?

The two old white ladies at the front are very rude and immediately give attitude. I asked for a day pass and they said they don’t give day passes. Fair enough. But I immediately tried to ask something else and they BOTH started talking to the person behind me. So I’m just standing there confused. As I left I heard one of them say “there he goes”. Disgusting behavior from both of them.

I've been a member off and on over several years. I'm blessed to have silver sneakers covered by my insurance. Right now I mostly use the indoor pool. The temperature is inconsistent warm one day cold the next. They are getting new equipment at the end of the month.
I'm dealing with trying to get some things done in the womens locker room. I see that there has been some effort made. But unfortunately, there are several lights out on the shower side of the womens locker room. I've been told twice now that they will get it taken care of but as of today the lights have not been addressed.
Update: everything has been addressed and now the shower side is nice and bright and the vents have been cleaned so there can be some air flow and hopefully it won't smell so bad in there.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
One of the Finest YMCAs in the Country
As someone who’s been a YMCA member for over 70 years—beginning as a child learning to swim—I can confidently say this is one of the best YMCAs in the nation. The facility is exceptionally clean, the equipment is modern and well maintained, and the staff consistently demonstrates professionalism and care. It’s clear that this Y is managed with pride and purpose.
Beyond the physical space, what sets this YMCA apart is its impact on the community. The Y has always stood for more than just fitness—it’s about belonging, service, and health in the broadest sense. This location lives up to that legacy.
If I have one critique, it’s the steam room. While there are signs asking members not to spray eucalyptus oil, some do so excessively, and the resulting intensity can be overwhelming. That’s more a matter of member etiquette than management—it’s unfortunate, but not a reflection on the facility itself.
In all, this is a first-class YMCA, and a shining example of what the organization stands for.

We are new members (as of January 2025) and both love our membership! We have taken many classes together, walk/workout in the main gym, and feel it is a great deal compared to other gyms. We really enjoy the non-senior classes as we are in our 40s. Everyone is friendly and helpful in our experience.

I love being a member of the YMCA because it is community-oriented and family-friendly. I love that there is a child watch area with wonderful workers to care for my children while I attend a fitness class or workout. I love the pools and the activities offered. I would recommend the YMCA to anyone without hesitation. A membership to the YMCA is a worthy investment.

The steam room and sauna are great too. Thank you YMCA 🙌🤸♀️✨

The fitness class schedule is extensive with experienced instructors that are friendly and talented. The front desk staff is pleasant, knowledgeable and always there to assist members and visitors. Fairly new, been there for a few months. Just like my rating demonstrates, basically everything is average. The equipment is pretty old but doable, gets the job basically done. I’ve only had the chance to do two work out class but it was pretty good; the instructor was yawning most of the time haha. Haven’t had a chance to be in the outdoor pool, but the indoor pool is coldddd. My 2 year old won’t go in anymore. Also haven’t seen the slide open but that looks cool, even tho my kid can’t go on it. Childcare location isn’t my favorite; at least for the kids that have anxiety from being away from their adults. It’s sort of open to the public eye to where the kids see all the adults on the outside. Or maybe I just don’t like window that has the ability for them to see you.
I did do one of the toddler sports programs and it was nice.

For the most part it’s ok but the basketball court is not for everyone to use it’s annoying that I pay for a membership like everyone else but 2 people can bring in 10 people as a guest at 1 time and not share the court and try to cause problems if you try to hoop you like they own it and when you tell the front desk and they don’t care there more worried about if you steal the basketballs they offer than letting everyone know the basketball court it for everybody and not a nba game.

Wonderful outdoor pool with zero entry, tipping buckets and sprayers. Not too deep so perfect for all of my kids. Also, we’ve always had great experiences at the child watch and the kids have fun (even my 8 year old!). There’s even a little fenced in outside playground available on nice weather days. The main gym has a nice variety of machines and equipment. Lastly, the classes are great and challenging - especially Barre and PiYo.. Traci is a fantastic instructor. I just hope they will start having classes for 9-12 year olds because my son will be turning 9 soon.

Decent gym+swimming pool + basketball playground.
There's an option to get membership on a monthly basis which was convenient to due to temporary stay in the city.
Swimming pool is ~20m in length from 1m to ~2.5m in depth. Sauna is available (temp inside ~65°C which is ok to get warm a bit).
Limited amount and type of exercise equipment for legs, but many units for cardio.
Parking is spacious.

On adult and children. But my dad was the only adult that can come so my mom can't take us only my dad which was kinda stupid. The shower is ice cold and the gym was extremely good
There is everything that you need I also like the basketball court. And the swimming pool is 3ft and 6 inches deep unless you have done a swimming test and you can swim in the other area which goes down to 6ft 3 inches. But it was a very good experience.

Raised the price this year but not one “improvement” has been made in the years I have been a member. Locker rooms are far from clean. Family locker rooms are gross (if they are open). New cardio equipment was poorly constructed and rattles when you run, gym floor might as well be a skating rink dangerously slippery. Half of the showers in the men’s bathroom do not work and with all the new years warriors there is now a wait for a shower in the morning. Mold on shower curtains is almost as repugnant as the hair clogging the drains of the shower. Pool rules are loosely enforced. If you are a parent who parents they say something but if not it is a free for all. When does the new hilliard rec center open? Your money would be better spent somewhere else IMO. Made multiple inquiries to speak with management about things but have gotten no response! Unfortunately it’s conveniently located but beyond that- not worth it. Oh and watch out for the bathtub sized potholes in the parking lot.

My family experienced racial biases while visiting this location. My partner and I foster multiple children who DO NOT look like us. Most recently we are guardians to our 2 young aged nieces. We are new to Hilliard and visited this location twice with their nanny. Upon arrival we immediately felt unwelcomed, the front desk gave the nanny a hard time but we brushed it off as standard procedure. We visited the pool during OPEN swim hours which AGAIN we faced unfair treatment as the common swim area was taken by swim lesions DURING OPEN swim hours. The swim instructor was extremely RUDE and she basically told my family we can’t swim during OPEN swim hours, she made false accusations against our family without not even once trying to have a civilized conversation. My family was beyond upset, I am STILL upset, however the front desk manager did apologize for the swim instructors actions. We accepted the apology but an apology does not erase this negative interaction. This behavior NEEDS to be corrected to spare another paying family from experiencing this treatment! Beware of swim lessons with the current instructor as of this date. She is rude and judgemental and we would NEVER feel comfortable having ANY of our children in her care. Needless to say we won’t be returning. If you are lbgtq or multiracial family don’t bother. The website claims diversity and inclusion but when faced with diversity they were judgemental and unwelcoming. We will drive the extra 20 mins for a more inclusive environment. :(

I feel like I'm scammed every month I pay for a membership. I mostly got it for the pool, which is almost never open!! Or if it is open, most the lanes are taken up by swim teams or lessons. The hot tub is also always broken. The slide hasn't been open ONE time since we started the membership. We also like playing basketball, but that's always full. This has been an utter waste of money and $75 is a lot to waste every month. I only gave 2 stars because my oldest son likes the gym equipment. They claim they're short lifeguards, but my son applied and they didn't even reach out for an interview, which tells me that they are PURPOSELY staying short staffed and CHOOSING to keep the pool closed. Outdoor pool hours are a joke, good luck going if you work first or 2nd shift.

Was treated VERY POURLY AND RUDE by ALISON at the front desk. Brought a Guest in, was extremely disappointed by your customer service and how disrespectful and rude she was to me and my guest at your facility. I had 1 more guest pass to use, it's the holiday, she took over 15 minutes to get us checked in, I begged that women to spare my last guest pass and she got a kick out of using my last one during the holidays! I typically wouldn't make a bad post but someone needs to teach that women sympathy! This is the worst YMCA Location of them all !!! Everytime I'm their the staff wants to come up and complain in your ear about every little thing you do......last time the pool guard told me to stop STRETCHING IN THE SAUNA BY MYSELF!!! WTH !! THIS YMCA IS DEDICATED TO BUNCH OF OLD PEOPLE !! BORING !! RED FLAGGING THIS BUSINESS DUE TO NEGLECT!! THIS IS A YMCA ( READ THAT AGAIN) YMCA AND SOMEWHERE IN THE Y ( SUPPOSED TO STAND FOR YOUTH) NOWHERE DOES THIS SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THE OLD CROWD !!! IM MID 30'S AND FEEL LIKE IM GOING TO THE ASSISTED LIVING WHEN I GO TO THIS LOCATION !!!!
I STILL CARRY MY PLANET FITNESS MEMBERSHIP, THEY GIVE YOU UNLIMITED GUEST PASSES THANK GOD OR I GO TO THE POWELL / DELEWARE ONE, THEY SUPPORT THE YOUTHS ITS NOT WELCOME BACK TO BINGO NIGHT WHEN I WALK IN THE FACILITY.
SAVE YOURSELF THE HASSLE
THANK YOU

Julia was extremely rude to my little Daughter my daughter is very shy she came over to her and was very loud and continued to be loud and rude. My Daughter started crying and said she was embarrassed and doesn't want to go back to the Y! She really needs to learn customer service and how she speaks to people. We are Black and I haven't seen her speak to anyone else like that. My daughter was just on a mat I continued to tell her she could have pulled me to the side if my daughter couldn't use the mat instead of Consistently getting loud while me and my daughter were right in front of her. Then she proceeded to talk about us to a co worker off to the side as I walked up to her to tell her she could of pulled me to the side they were talking about us. I definitely don't feel comfortable there anymore or my Daughter my daughter is shy just a young girl and didn't say a word this place is supposed to be family friendly she was extremely rude. Can't believe it I am there all the time with my Daughter and we don't feel comfortable anymore. I emailed management on August the 18th Patrick and today is August the 31st we must not be important to get back to. No response and I called and left a voice mail today. Julia needs better service and didn't care when I told her my Daughter was crying.

I have visited hundreds of YMCA across the country. While in a generic YMCA I use the pool and weight floor the most. I use the pool a lot because I am a swimmer. I am the first YMCA represented athlete to break 44 in the 100 free in history. In short, I use the pool and weight floor a lot.
Now, why you should avoid this facility and your other better aquatic facility options.
- This pool still uses sneeze guards, and lane reservations even though many other YMCA do not. This wouldn't bother me if the concern was health and cleanliness, which it is not. Even though the YMCA has those measures in place thy don't follow any stringent cleaning measures or any other covid measures. The locker rooms are not clean, and they don't have a single covid measures in place like the ones mentioned above. The shower curtains have mold growing in the folds, on my visit there were underwear in the suit dryer with what looked to be feces left inside, and no other cleaning checkups. The weight floor doesn't have staff that frequent the machines to ensure things stay extra clean either.
- Now, the lane reservations. The only reason this YMCA still uses them is because they don't want to deal with older members complain and they don't want to staff lifeguards to allow more members to use the pool. Even though a pool closed a couple weeks ago brining more staff to this location. As stated above their concern isn't cleanliness because they don't follow any other measures anywhere else.
- The weight floor is always underlit. I know YMCAs don't have a lot of money so if they are trying to save money then it's probably time to close up shop then to continue doing its members a disservice and offering a poor environment.
- Finally, the staff. I have seen management like this in several locations. Management more concerned with keeping their job, than providing its community with a pleasurable experience. Focused on doing the bear minimum than one of excellence. Higher management is coarse, disrespectful, and unhelpful. Every experience I have had talking with higher management has always left a sour taste in my mouth.
Other Options;
If you are an alumnus of OSU or know someone who is (for sponsored visits) I would recement using their facilities. Even if you have to pay for a gym membership, and visit a random city pool it would be better than this Y. Maybe even joining a masters swim team would be better. They have lost of freedom on those teams to come whenever you want or change the swim. If you have to use a YMCA I would drive the extra miles to go to the superior Liberty YMCA, or even the New Albany YMCA. The extra cost in gas or time is worth spending than coming to the Hilliard YMCA.

My family and I just got a membership, but our “main location” is grove city. My 6 year old loves this locations outdoor pool, as do I. We come to this location a few times a week depending on the weather because the Grove city location which is closer to us requires reservations for the pool and it’s always full. This location has a nice 3 ft pool that’s perfect for smaller kids and it’s never packed. So you don’t have to worry about not having anywhere to sit or a bunch of people crowded in the pool. The staff and life guards are nice and we haven’t had any issues.

Been going here a month and I absolutely LOVE it!! My son(4) goes in child watch while I workout and he always has a blast and literally every single person that I've interacted with is so nice! Definitely recommend this is you have young children! The pools are also wonderful, very clean and the lifeguards are great and really pay attention!

Since starting at this gym and being a little disappointed at the pool area availability, I have noticed improvements over the past several months. New staff hires has allowed more lifeguards, so the pool is regularly open now. The free weight equipment is old, and the workout area isn’t huge, the cardio equipment is so-so, but it can get the job done. 4 stars because the front desk staff is always friendly!

The Hilliard YMCA is a great recreational center for many activities such as swimming, basketball, working out, studio sessions, etc. What makes it unique is its accessibility for people with disabilities. In the parking lot, there are 10 handicapped parking spaces surrounding the building. All doors for entry and exit are handicapped accessible; handicap button outside and inside the building. Each bathroom has one larger stall with horizontal grab bars. This is great for people with mobility disabilities. I did not see signs with braille, and there is no adult changing tables, which is a downside. It can get loud because there are so many activities going on at the same time, so people with sensory processing disorder may feel overwhelmed. The YMCA is filled with diversity among its guests and members. There are employees with disabilities who are always willing to help. Also they have a good population of members with disabilities who love to work out or go for a swim. The Hilliard branch is open to all, diversity and inclusion.

This place may not look like much from outside but it has everything you would need and more inside! 2 pools, studio rooms, basketball courts, open equipment floor and more! Plus the staff is very welcoming and friendly! Lots of diversity... which is a welcome change to most places that tend to cater to super skinny or super buff white folks. All ages, all fitness levels, all ethnicities, all are welcome! And the facility was super clean! If you're in the neighborhood check it out!
