I love this place, great camaraderie, great workouts, I never felt so good or was so strong as when working out with Bridgetown CrossFit. Tailored workouts, great motivation, you can’t fail unless you really work at it.

I'm 46 and I've never lifted anything beyond kids, groceries and mulch. I've always been intimidated by the equipment and the vibe of weightlifting...but I also wanted to get stronger. I'm so glad my friend introduced me to Bridgetown! Jay has been incredibly kind and respectful to me. He's helped me find some routines that I feel excited about and he's committed to my safety and form. The whole community there is welcoming and friendly. No one records their sessions or takes selfies, folks do their own thing quietly and with intention. For the first time ever, I'm LOVING going to the gym! I feel like I've found something better than therapy.

Started going to this gym a few years back and I couldn’t so much as do a real push up or pull up. The owners are awesome; patient, knowledgeable, and prioritize safety. Great for beginners and appreciate the space even more now that I’m more experienced.

I love being able to walk in, do my own programming, and have my own rack without waiting for equipment to free up.

The equipment selection is great, no way anyone has this many different barbells in all of Portland. Best place to learn and get stronger.

Amazing facility and the most knowledgeable trainers I know. I was a collegiate swimmer and I feel like this place is the closest I’ve come to finding expert advice and support since college. I feel more confident with my lifting technique and I really enjoy the morning workouts and intimate community of long term members!

I dropped in here a couple of days when I was out of town on a work trip. Jay couldn't have been nicer or more helpful - I felt right at home. The gym was well equipped and had everything I needed. I'll definitely drop in again the next time I'm in Portland!

Great gym for lifters with squat racks and an olympic style training section. The owner let us drop in for a workout and was super kind and helpful. No cardio machines that I could see, just a good old style gym with good people.

This place is the real deal. Great people, great program. Been coming here for a few months. I'm athletic but never seriously lifted before. Felt comfortable from the moment I walked in the door. No frills, no BS, only what you need--coaches that know what they are doing and who want you to get stronger in a healthy and sustainable way. Can't say enough about Erin and Jay. And I can't wait to get back in the gym!

Fantastic gym! Great place to learn how to lift weights in a supportive environment that will still challenge you. Owners Erin and Jay are very knowledgeable and willing to help. I particularly like the warm ups (way better than any other crossfit gym I've been to) and the emphasis on avoiding injuries or rehabbing existing injuries. Every class has a warmup and stretching routine geared toward whatever the movements are in the workout you are about to do. Programming is great too. Could not recommend this place more.

Dropping in for the weekend and got a great Saturday workout in. Very helpful advice and the owner being so patient with me when I was so tired that I misunderstood his instructions! Everyone was so nice and easy-going. Exactly the kind of place you want to find on a trip where you’re by yourself exploring! Looking forward to dropping in tomorrow! Thank you!

Jay and Erin run a seriously awesome gym. Not only are they exceptional coaches, they truly support their clients as individuals. They got me through two pregnancies and never gave up on me - even though my recovery after the second kid has been, shall we say, on the relaxed side. If you're looking for a gym that will push you AND support you through what life throws at you, BCBC is it!!!

Real nice people, good facility, and great classes. Doesn't matter what your fitness level is, they'll work with you and not make you barf like the other crossfit places. Highly recommend.

I love this place! Erin and Jay aren't interested in hype. They're interested in good technique, increasing mobility (which for those of us sitting on our toosh all day is highly needed) and addressing each client's individual needs when they need to work around injuries. I've been coming to BCBC for years and the people I see regularly there are some of the kindest, smartest folks around. Oh, and there's always a good dose of snark. Who doesn't need more snark?!

This gym is a gem. Great training environment, no BS. I have been weightlifting here since 2014 and Jay's programming always delivers. I recently competed with the WL team and Jay's precise coaching at the meet resulted in 6/6 performance and PRs in both lifts for me. The gym is well organized, the equipment is excellent, and Jay and Erin play some good tunes! Free on-street parking too.

Erin is by far the best coach I've ever had. She's smart, funny and so knowledgeable about the form you'll need to do these workouts well. I saw way faster results with her "lifting correctly" rather than "lifting aggressively" as I have in the past.

This is where anyone can learn to use a barbell and do other strength-training exercises. I had never lifted a barbell before coming, and after several weeks, I still don't really know I'm doing...But I'm learning and I feel great. The members are genuinely friendly and since it's an individual workout, there doesn't feel like any macho pressure. That said, Jay and Erin will push you to do your best and keep you safe while doing it.

I highly recommend gym for self proclaimed "Gym idiots" like myself.

Anecdotally, I've had hip cramps my entire running and cycling life, and after a day of squatting, they're gone. That is priceless.

This place is great. I was in Portland for a month and initially chose this box for its proximity to where I was working. They offer convenient class times, smaller class sizes and a good location. You can tell that the trainers have a lot of experience. Jay was able to take the time to break down the movements and really helped to improve my lifting technique. The programming is smart and balanced. You will definitely get a great work-out in here!

I visited Bridgetown CrossFit and Barbell Club while traveling to Portland. Erin and Jay were extremely accommodating and helpful to make sure that I had everything I needed to complete the specific programming from my home gym. Erin and Jay provided tips on my technique an were very encouraging each time I came. I am very grateful to have found this gym and will certainty be back the next time I visit Portland!

Visiting from out of town and wanted to keep up with my workouts. Jay gave me some excellent instructions on improving some of my technique. He was patient, encouraging and gave me plenty of room to learn. I have to admit that the foam rolling and band warm up was like none that I have ever had before. I will be bringing some new skills back home with me for sure. The whole workout was well planned and organized.

This place sucks.

I filled out the online contact form for new members about a week ago. I never heard anything back so I thought I'd just stop in and talk to someone in person and maybe check out a class.

I live less than 5 mins away so I rode my bike over there. There's no real signage out front, but the address said I was in the right place so I walked in. Immediately some guy with a beard appeared from around the corner and told me I couldn't have my bike inside. No "hey there" or "hi, are you new?" or any greeting for that matter. Just "you can't have your bike in here".

I told him it was my first time there and that I didn't know. He simply walked past me, showed me the door, and asked if I had a bike lock. I did. I thought "oh, ok. He's gonna show me where I could lock up my bike then introduce himself. Maybe he's not a total a**hole."

Nope. As soon as I stepped through the door, it swung shut behind me with him still inside. I waited and looked around for a good spot to park my bike. There wasn't one At least not right out front. He never came back out so I hoped on my bike and headed home.

I'm disappointed to say the least, especially after reading a couple positive reviews. I can only assume those people are friends with owner or they genuinely did have better experiences with another member of the staff.

Bridgetown Barbell has a wealth of knowledge, an excellent training environment, and is the best training facility in Portland, or dare I say the entire Northwest. There is no room for ego or a superiority complex at this gym, everyone from the newcomer who has never touched a barbell to the athlete competing in the olympics uses the same equipment and gets the same detailed coaching from Jay and Erin. Everyone is welcome, whether you just want to get in shape for beach season or compete on the national stage in olympic weightlifting.

Jay's mantra is "The barbell will never b*llsh*t you," and I'm not BSing you now; if you want the best coaching and training facility in the Northwest, look no further than Bridgetown Barbell.

The intense and professional environment at Bridgetown Crossfit and Barbell Club played a significant factor in preparing me to compete in the 2014 East Coast Classic in York, PA, and the 2014 USA Weightlifting Senior National Championships in Salt Lake City, UT. Whether you are a new weightlifter wanting to learn efficient and effective technique, an advanced weightlifter aiming to break plateaus, or simply an athlete looking for a dynamic edge, Jay and Erin Tieder can help you get there. I make the two-hour drive to BCBC from the Willamette Valley whenever I can for the elite coaching and atmosphere.

Best gym experience out there. I was wary of the class format but it's changed my mind entirely. Jay and Erin have a ton of experience lifting and coaching and apply that each individual. If you're injured or inexperienced they'll coach you through it and get you to wherever you want to go. The flexibility is a great part of the gym and programs, and there's no pushing inexperienced lifters into hardcore crossfit workouts.

Great trainers, great workout! Options available for every fitness level in a positive environment. There is always a focus on technique and doing things right instead of fast. You will get a kick-ass workout and keep going back for more! 100% recommended.

Great gym for people of a variety of ages and experience levels. Jay and Erin are smart and professional, and they take the time to make sure you know what you're doing and how to do it correctly -- before you do it. Proper form and injury avoidance are priorities.

BCBC offers a variety of workouts suitable for a beginner ("basic barbell") or someone more advanced ("crossfit" and strength/Olympic weightlifting programs). And they will tailor a program to accommodate injuries and other limitations.

Finally, the environment is friendly and supportive even though the workouts are usually hard and intense. In this regard, other crossfit gyms I've tried are nothing like BCBC.

In short, I went from being someone who hated working out to someone who loves working out, and the change has only to do with me checking out BCBC.

I was brought to Bridgetown Crossfit over about two years ago and I have been hooked. Like most, I was out of shape and was a little intimidated about going to a "Crossfit" gym. Erin and Jay could not have made my experience any better. They are great trainers and will teach you how to lift. Their gym is clean, and has a ton of nice equipment too. They even have a great section specifically for Olympic weightlifting. If you are looking for a great little gym in Portland Bridgetown Crossfit is the place!!!

I highly recommend Bridgetown CrossFit and Barbell Club! I was out of shape and very intimidated before I went. The coaches & owners (Erin and Jay) are very nice and give excellent instruction so you don't get injured, but are always challenging yourself. Over the past year I have tried the CrossFit class and also the Basic Barbell Class. Both have taught me so much and increased my stamina, endurance and strength. I have lost weight and feel great! I feel stronger and have more confidence. I used to think it was pricy, but after going, realized that it is the best money I have ever spent. It's an investment in yourself and so worth it. Go check them out!

Great CrossFit and weightlifting facility. Erin and Jay are true professionals that know what they are doing and make sure you do too. All the right equipment and training knowledge to make sure the workouts are done safely. Heard lots of injury horror stories about CrossFit before starting a year ago, but haven't seen any of that here. Can't recommend it enough!!

I am someone who loves working out, but was not exercising correctly before getting injured. I was recommended crossfit after recovering from a slipped disc in my lower back, knowing I needed to strengthen that area. I tried two other crossfit gyms in the Portland area, but each one of these listed the workout on a whiteboard expecting everyone, no matter the level of experience, to jump in and complete it. Also, even though it wasn't a big deal, each gym had just 1 trainer available during the class. Eventually, I made my way to Bridgetown Crossfit, where 3 things happened immediately:
1. The trainers, Erin and Jay, spent time with you, teaching you each movement of the lift/exercise.
2. We stretched and warmed up before the workout. This is a big deal to me because the stretching/warm up gives me the confidence to complete the workout of the day. At other crossfit gyms, the warm-up was simply a light jog and some pull-ups, not enough to feel truly prepped.
3. The prices were and still are the best in town.

The toughest part of starting crossfit is sticking with it. When the trainers are as knowledgeable and skilled as Erin and Jay, it really makes coming back to another class much easier. No matter if you're a couch potato or an ultra marathoner, we are all in the same class, pushing one another succeed. All the trainers and classmates ask is that you push yourself a little and make it through the first two weeks.

I've been attending BCBC a little over a year now. I came in ok shape, with almost zero flexibility in my back and hips. Now, injuries are few and far between, confidence has grown substantially, and I was even able to run two marathons in less than a year. You want to get into shape? Come to BCBC, and stick around for a bit.
