:Been a member here for years, but I’m finally done. Machines are constantly broken, left unattended, or “under maintenance” for weeks at a time. For the premium price we’re paying, the upkeep is unacceptable.
On top of that, the atmosphere has completely tanked. The gym has turned into a social hangout for wannabe influencers who don’t even work out, just crowd around equipment in groups of 4–5, hogging machines and filming themselves. Management does nothing to address it, even though it ruins the experience for actual paying members.
If you come between 2PM–6PM, prepare to waste your time watching a high school–level social club instead of getting a workout in. Save your money and go somewhere else.

The music here is absolutely terrible and a liability. I’ve asked them to turn it down numerous times – I have a seizure disorder- and they claim they’re not able to. It’s way louder some days than others though. And it’s really terrible EDM or rap music- very aggressive and you have to yell over it. They also have tons of flashing fluorescent lights I assume because the bulbs need changing? No clue but It’s dangerous

I don’t know what everybody else is complaining about, this place is great for the price! I had previously been going to a small private gym in downtown LO. Their facilities were very nice, but the equipment was dated and lacking in variety. I initially checked out 24 hour and LA fitness, both of which had dingy interiors, weird vibes, crappy machines, and minimal variety. I was so happy to find golds! It’s a great price for the variety of equipment, which seems to be maintained well. The bathrooms are clean. Clientele is focused and mainly sticks to themselves. Friendly staff. Cons- I wish there was a women’s only sauna!

Been going here since it opened several times a week. The equipment that can wear (wrapped foams on seats/leg extension/curl and everything) is getting pretty worn out. They need to reupholster the stuff everyone uses very soon. I used to tell my friends to join because it had the best equipment (gym80 is good), but I don’t say that anymore as your legs and hairs will be getting pinched on most seats/machines.
Sauna is janky and always getting laughable wood repairs. 75% of ppl use sauna here, they don’t put any thought into maintaining it.
It’s very conveniently located for me, not gonna switch up just yet.

There's not a single fan in the entire gym. There's central air that appears to be unused. The whole place is like a disgusting sauna.
It's also a bring your own cable accessories type of place. They have very few but the machine seems generally unused so you have your pick of the limited selection to improvise.
I was the only person aside from th cleaning staff who was wiping things down.
A bunch of machines were unlabeled and I suspect no one knows what they do because one person offered to show me what a labeled machine does and when I told him I was actually trying to figure out the unlabeled machine next to it he said "oh" and put his headphones back on. Plus I didn't see anyone using them for the hour or so I was there.
The bathrooms use heater dryers instead of paper towels and the one I used had poop streaks on the toilet bowl.
I would never come back if it wasn't sometimes more convenient.
This is also all ironically hilarious given that golds gym is always a fashion show. A bunch of wanna be influencers in matching sets in a muggy poop streaked facility....yup. I can't wait for my membership to expire.

Visiting from out of state. Went in to purchase a couple of day passes. My wife misplaced her ID over the weekend however I was carrying her older ID that had her pictured and identified her as who she was. This however was not good enough for the staff and we were turned away. Keep in mind I was willing to PAY for the day passes however no accommodation was made even after I explained the circumstances.
LA Fitness south of here was much more friendlier.

This is a great gym with great culture. People of a variety of fitness levels work out here with dedicated goals and mindset, with a friendly social atmosphere. Equipment and facilities are clean and well maintained and the space is smaller but has a good setup of equipment. The staff is fantastic, all very friendly.

Gold’s Gym has several drawbacks, particularly for those who rely on the facility’s locker rooms and showers before or after work. The locker rooms are quite small, offering limited space to change comfortably (6 is overwhelming). The showers often have low water pressure and inconsistent temperatures, often even if I’m the only one showing., The overall cleanliness of the shower stalls leaves much to be desired. Amenities are minimal, especially considering the membership cost.
Additionally, Gold’s Gym enforces a 30-day cancellation notice policy, meaning members must continue paying for a full month after requesting to cancel. This policy can be inconvenient for those looking for more flexibility.
However, if your primary focus is access to equipment and you don’t need to use the showers or locker rooms, the gym may still meet your needs. But for those who require a clean, functional, and spacious facility for pre- or post-work workouts, Gold’s Gym may not be the best option.

I am genuinely am afraid for my health every time I go. The machines are worn out, filthy, and on the verge of breaking. The bathrooms and sauna are a health hazard. I had fear of being attacked by a person for the first time ever today. The gym used to be all Portlanders. It is now overcrowded with non Americans, like some kind of international hotel. I am ending my membership effective today. Let the Oregon health department in when they arrive.

Currently updating review from my previous review below.
The person (s) they hired to clean up the gym is doing an EXCELLENT job with Red Light, Tanning, Machines and Bathrooms. Luke has really put in a lot of effort in running this gym effectively and is the perfect guy for the job. As a matter a fact, I would say that every employee you have working at this time at the front desk NEEDS to stay at Golds!! They do well in there positions and are pleasant to speak with and always accommodating!!
Previous review:
Every time I wanna go in that red light, it is extremely filthy. The gym staff are not even enforcing that people that go in the red light clean it after. I constantly see people going into this red light without cleaning spray and towel. The last review about how filthy this gym is, I And a ton of other people fully agree because it is absolutely disgusting. When asking the employee if they can get somebody to clean that after a certain person gets out of it, they said absolutely not. I am the only staff here and I cannot leave the front.
It’s been several weeks since I’ve seen a cleaning crew!!! There are tons of dust bunnies on the floor. The machines itself are dusty, and I feel so unsafe coming here.
I originally joined this gym because of the cleanliness and because the equipment was in good shape
However, I cannot say that now there is four machines that are broken and it takes months for them to get fixed
Needs to do something about this ASAP. No wonder why you get so much turnover
It’s a reflection Upper management.
I would upload pictures of how horrible shape this gym is in from a sanitary standpoint But it looks like someone got to it before me.

I've been a member of this gym for about two years, and it's disappointing to see how much it's declined. The lack of maintenance is concerning, especially for a facility of this caliber. The bathrooms are consistently dirty, and the men’s locker room urinal hasn't been cleaned in over a month. Tissues are always scattered around, and many of the lockers don't even function properly. It feels like the employees are just there without any real care for the state of the gym. It's disheartening to see such a once-great place go to waste.
Edited:
While they managed to clean up and keep the facility clean, there's still so many wrong things with the gym. Lots of machine cushions are still broken, worn out and I think it's time to pack up. Also the gym is becoming more of social place than a gym. Why am I paying premiums prices to watch a group talk for 20 minutes.

Extremely poor front desk staff. Unorganized and unhelpful.
I brought my little brother in using my guest pass which comes with my upgraded membership. They require a legal guardian to sign for under 18 for liability reasons so we bought our dad in, to get things signed.
They lost all of the paperwork directly after we signed everything. The next time we came in they kicked us out because they had no record of our dad signing papers. Dad out of town now and no way to use the guest pass I pay for, simply because they lost paperwork the first time.

Where to start… when I first started coming here it was nice and clean. Not the case as of late! If it was possible to leave 0 stars I would!
Over the last month it has become disgusting. It doesn’t seem to have been cleaned in the last month!
Locker room- Moldy gunk build up in the showers, over flowing trash cans, broken locker room doors!
Restrooms - dark floor staining, along with mystery brown stains on the floor. Pubic hair and gunk on the back of all toilet seats, bathrooms constantly out of toilet paper! I would rather use a porta potty on a construction site on a 110 degree day then use a bathroom at Golds Gym!
Equipment is constantly broken and takes weeks to fix.
I would expect a lot more from a gym that charges almost $50 a month!

I’ve been wanting to write this review for some time now. I’m editing my review because this place is becoming disgusting. I’m here every morning at around 5:00am. The recycle bins are completely full, the bathrooms are disgusting (I bring wipes now to wipe down toilets) and machines stay broken for longer. I don’t know what’s going on, but this gym is becoming a joke. Not worth the $45 if they don’t keep up with cleanliness and upkeep.
Been here for a couple months now and I love it. I’m there at 5am so I can’t speak to what’s it’s like during other hours, but it’s great. It’s always really clean and everyone is always really nice.
The employees are great and helpful.
Would really recommend it.

Golds has been really taking a deep dive lately. The cleaning crew quit several weeks ago and it is really starting to show. The equipment is hardly ever wiped down. Several broken machines The Bathrooms have almost become hazardous and in need of a deep cleaning. I never see the paid staff cleaning at all. i hate being the bad guy but somebody gotta say it. I would NEVER RECOMMEND GETTING A MEMBERSHIP AT ANY GOLDS GYM due to the “membership” you have to sign up for. Went to cancel my membership due to moving and it is a complete scam. I gave them written notice and paid the final bill. They say it’ll take 30 days to cancel. 31 days later they say my account is not current and I need to pay another month before I can cancel. So I pay again. Then another 31 days later they say my account is not current and tell me I need to pay again to bring it current before they can cancel. This went on for 3 months before suddenly I get a call from a collections agency. I provide proof of payment multiple months in a row, but golds does the same thing again and say it’s going to collections. I haven’t had anything go to collections for 10+ years so I pay the amount AGAIN. Long story short, I paid $400+ for a membership I didn’t use for over 6 months. I have never left a negative google review but this is worth showing how terrible this companies practices are in hopes they don’t scam more people in the end. Find a different gym that isn’t a scam!

Traveling for work, but checked the website and wanted to take advantage of the Free Pass not just on the national site, but local site as well. Showed up, was told the free pass is no longer valid because they are running a members only promotion which supersedes the free pass. Asked if they would still honor the pass since it’s up on their local site, was rejected and told they really should take it down, but drop is still $20. Left just off principle.

I don’t use this gym at all, but my stepfather who lives in St Helens had eye surgery in the building across the parking lot and because my mom can’t drive he drove himself and took their camper along with to stay the night while recovering from surgery!
Well it was a series of unfortunate events for him that evening and he broke the key to his camper door off while trying to open it to go get some rest! He had to call a lock smith and get that fixed all while he was recovering from Lasik.
LONG STORY SHORT( haha right)
The next morning we couldn’t get ahold of him and had no idea if he was okay, so I called GOLD’S GYM
And Lucky answered!!!
Lucky was so kind to go out to the camper and knock on the door and provide us with proof of life!
He had no problem making sure we had my stepdad call my mom to give her peace of mind.
Thank you, LUCKY at Gold’s Gym

Great gym and well maintained equipment! I would recommend for the intermediate and up gym goer, someone who plans on doing a little cardio and hitting the weights. Or for someone new to gyms that plans on lifting weights. New people or those wanting to just use the treadmills could probably save a few bucks going to a cheaper gym. Not that Gold's isn't welcoming, it is, but depending on your goals and finances, a cardio heavy person could find a gym for cheaper that meets all their needs.
With that said, no one at Gold's is going to judge you, everyone is on their own fitness journeys, the gym is clean and maintained. I would recommend trying it out with a free day pass.

I was debating if I should post something just because I want to gate keep this place but this gym is probably the best in the Portland Metro area. For 40 dollars this gym provides everything you need for a great workout! It has a lot of space, new and clean equipment that you can't find at your local planet fitness, and friendly staff. The recovery is top notch. The sauna is very hot and clean. They have a red-light therapy room and probably my favorite feature 2 full body massage chairs. Recently tried this location on a 1 day pass and wow - felt like the perfect gym. Super refreshing to walk into a gym with great energy. Tons of weight lifting equipment, everything looked almost new, lots of space, very clean, helpful staff, and a pretty active weight lifting community already in there. Was pretty happy and bought a membership on the spot.
The gym also has some bonus amenities like sauna, tanning, and massage chairs as well which was nice. Bonus points for playing house music as well ha. Hours are very reasonable and the locations convenient off of I5.

I just went for one day with the online free pass to check out the gym. Coming from Planet Fitness, this place is amazing. I'm looking for a new gym. Tons of free weights, lots of squat racks, bench, dumbbells, etc. Lots of space. And on a Saturday afternoon, it was not crowded at all. This place is big and spread out. Clean, new equipment. The membership is a little pricey, but I would probably pay it if I lived closer. It's a 20 minute drive from my house, and I opted for the gym that is less than 10 minutes from me. By far, the best gym I've visited in the area.

I like that everything is very spread out and the gym has a nice lay out. The only thing I would mention is if you are new to the gym all the machines and weights can look intimidating because non of them have pictures or instructions on how to use them. I'm not new to the gym and even I was puzzled on a few of the machines. I know they are located where the old Bfit used to be but I'm hopeful they will be successful for many many years to come.
